A good place to visit with your loved ones. The garden is located in a nice area called Illukowita, reachable within 2 hours from Colombo. It has ample vehicle parking facility. The entrance charge is Rs. 100/= for adults and Rs. 20/= for children. There is a great collection of wet zone flora. If needed you can hire a golf buggy, 2seats for Rs. 1000/= or 6 seats for Rs. 2000/=. But I recommend you to have a walk. It will take around 3 hours to complete the tour. You can take a swan boat ride as well.

Seethawaka Wet zone Botanic Gardens is the 5th Botanic Garden of the Department of National Botanic Gardens and the first botanic garden established solely for the conservation of wet zone flora in Sri Lanka. Development of the garden was initiated in 2008 and opened to the general public in 2015. It is situated on the Puwakpitiya-Thummodara road, at Illukowita, adjacent to the Indikada Mukalana Forest Reserve at Avissawella which is a suburban area of the Colombo district. This 42-hectare garden used to be a former rubber and tea plantation but now has been transformed into a research and conservation area for wet zone flora in Sri Lanka. Here, you can marvel at gorgeous trees and flowers across the rose, medicinal and spice gardens, and also paddle out on the beautiful lake on a swan boat. You can also walk uphill to the viewpoint where you can get stunning views of the garden and the surrounding valley. Located less than 30 miles from Colombo, the garden is a great spot for a half-day tour from the Sri Lankan capital.

Such a beautiful place! I think this is better maintained than some famous botanical gardens in Sri Lanka, but the shade from the trees isn't sufficient. It's really hot. It's nice to have this kind of place around the Colombo area. People need some time to spend with nature.

Such a wonderful place to visit. If you want to visit go early morning. At that time this has nice view. Has a parking. You have to give your phone number at the entrance. You can go inside and eat your foods. Liquor is prohibited.

Beautiful place to relax with your family and friends, it’s a large area and you have to be ready for walking. Better take some mats or sheets to sit in between to relax . You can also hire golf car services, 2 seats one 1000 Rs and 6 seats one 2000 Rs, they will take one hour drive through the entire park. But you need to book it in advance other wise you may need to wait for long time to get it as they have very few cars available. There is a big parking space available and it’s free . Entrance fee is 100 Rs and It’s advisable to take the foods with you .

Latest addition to Sri Lanka’s botanical garden list. Located not far from Colombo and reachable within 2 hours from Colombo. You don’t find much flowers here like other gardens in the island. But the landscaping is absolutely amazing with many wet zone plants. There’s some area to cover and it will take around 3 hours to complete the tour. If needed you can hire a buggy as well. Swan boat rides also available. Good place to hang out with friends and specially for young couples to have some quality free time.

It's a beautiful and calming environment. There are some ponds/lakes, walkways, flower gardens, herb gardens. It will be great if you can visit there in a rainy season. There is a view point too. Ticket was Rs.100/= per adult. It will take around 2-3 hours to explore it. If your grandparents wish to visit there, don't think twice because there are some vehicles (like golf cars) to carry you around the garden.

Very calm quiet and beautiful environment. It's only 1.5 hour ride from Colombo. You can spend some relaxing hours. You can see beautiful flowers, trees, grassland, fish and birds. The entrance charges are only Rs.100 per person. If you expect to wedding photoshoot they charge Rs.5,000. If you have any walking difficulty the golf car can be hired. Parking available. Clean washroom available.

I visited this place for the first time, and it was awesome. The greenery view exceeded my expectations, it looked exactly like the commercial images I saw. You can spend the whole day there, it’s peaceful and calm. I visited on a weekday, so there weren’t many people. I highly recommend taking the boat ride; it’s really worth Rs. 300 for 30 minutes. They have their own canteen inside, and the food was also good with reasonable prices. It’s a truly peaceful location to relax your mind.

One of the best botanical gardens I have visited so far in Sri Lanka. Even when I went on Saturday, the place was very quiet and peaceful. The entire area was well maintained, and the staff was friendly. The cafeteria offered delicious food at reasonable prices, enhancing the overall experience. The park is good for wildlife too. If you visit the garden early in the morning, you can see many bird species, even Sri Lankan endemic bird species. In just five hours, I encountered an impressive 61 bird species within the park. The upper region of the park, bordering the forest, provided a genuine forest experience. The rose garden is a bit disappointing; there were not many roses in the garden. For those seeking a peaceful and rejuvenating vacation, this botanical garden is a must-visit. It truly offers a perfect setting for a calm and soothing getaway.

Spread across 104 acres, it provides a tranquil and educational experience for visitors. The garden is well-maintained, featuring various themed sections, including a medicinal plant garden, orchid house, and a diverse collection of tropical trees and palms. It's a fantastic spot to chill with friends, unwind, and have a day away from Colombo. If you opt for public transport, catch the 122 Awissawella bus, hop off at Puwakpitiya junction, then grab a tuk-tuk ride for around 700 LKR. The place is well taken care of, but heads up – it gets pretty crowded on holidays and weekends. Brace yourself for a ticket queue during peak holiday times.

You don’t need to worry about the parking because it has a huge parking space available. Best to visit during the evenings.

This botanical garden is just that a botanical garden. Created within an area of about 100 acres and has a stream flowing in the middle with fonds and ford's adding value to the attraction. There are various types of plants, creepers, trees with beautiful scenery around the place. They open at 7.30 in the morning and It's better if you go there as early as possible. It gets hot during the day specially in summer and will be difficult to walk the full 4Km of track.

I could see acres and acres of greenery. Great verity of trees, plants and flowers. There are so many plants in this park is Re planted, those are very rear and Endangered plants in sri lanka. It takes at least a day to see it all. Nice place to relax. Nice place to picnic and enjoy the nature. Nicely kept garden with lost of space. Its very suitable to take photos with nature. Enjoyed the green houses with verity of cactus, Roses, tropical flowers and ornamental plants. Could see some birds, butterflies and lots of Reptiles. The beautiful pools and ponds increase the beautiful of nature too. Away from the busy town life and noise. Less crowded when I visited and couldn't see any foreign tourists. Could see many rear plants...

Ample parking space. Easy access roads to the location (travelled there by a car). There’s a cafeteria inside so you can have refreshments from there or can bring your own food. Tickets are priced at 200 LKR for locals. 1000 for Golf cart ride for an hour long drive inside the park. Entire extent is 106 acres but only around 60 acres is developed at the moment. We heard that rest is planned to be developed under phase 2. Park opened in 2015, so it’s the latest addition to the botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. There are Swan Boat rides available in the lake inside. No animals of any sort but can find a variety of endemic, indigenous and endangered flora.

There are 5 main botanicals gardens in sri lanka.1. Peradeniya botanical gardens in kandy ,2.Hakgala botanical garden in nuwaraeliya (Asoka vatica according to ramayana legends) 3. Henarathgoda botanical gardens in gampaha 4. Seethawaka botanical gardens in awissawilla 5. Mirijjawila botanical gardens in hambantota district . Except for mirijjawila botanical gardens rest of the other places are located in the wet zone. Mirijjawila is in the dry zone. Seethawaka is the latest addition to the botanical gardens list of sri lanka opened to public in October 2014 which is located 45 kms away from the commercial capital of colombo. It is situated in a calm and serene environment and a great place to relax and enjoy with your family. Its constructed to conserve highly endangered/ endemic lowland wet zone and rain forest plants. (sinharaja rain forest). There are many trees which are enlisted as highly endemic/endangered included in the redlist. You can also spot some birds as well during your vist. Extent of the gardens is 43 hectares Can hire a buggy 1000 rs per hour.

Escape the hustle and bustle at Seethawaka Botanic Gardens, a tranquil haven with stunning landscapes, paddle boats, and shaded picnic spots. The clean facilities and affordable tickets make it a must-visit. The construction of the Botanical garden commenced in 2008 and was formally opened to the public in October 2014. Spread across a sprawling 42 hectares. This garden is a testament to the dedication of its creators to preserving and showcasing the region's natural beauty. Take the chance to immerse yourself in this oasis of serenity.

Went to this place as part of a school trip. A beautiful place, but not as big as Peradeniya. Balls, bats, musical instruments etc are not allowed in the garden. Bathroom facilities are available, but just like many public places don't expect five star cleanliness. It has a decent cafe/shop that sells food items etc. Plenty of areas to explore and a good place for the family. There are Swan Boats available on the mini lake. Also plenty of areas to have a picnic. For the aquarium lovers there are quite a few ponds with fish. Golf cart rides are also available. There is also a vantage point high up in the hill that gives you a panoramic view of the garden. Overall, it's a good day out for the family, but call beforehand to see what's allowed etc.

A greenly garden with well maintained landscape. This is a Wet Zone botanic garden covering 79 acres located close to Colombo. A superb place for a day out or a picnic. You can hire an electric buggy to cover a garden tour as well. Better to take some food and water with you since there are no proper restaurants or supermarkets nearby. Washroom facilities are available. A vast vehicle parking area also available.

Small yet beautiful place for a family holiday. There are walking trails that you can cover in about an hour. The landscape is very neat and attractive. They have a pond that you can ride paddle boats. You can sit with your family on the open ground & have a meal. There is enough shade from the trees. They have a golf cart service if you don't like to walk, with an extra pay. Flower gardens are not yet completed. Overall I'm satisfied with the trip to seethawaka garden.

You can cover the map within an hour or two. Existing forest turned in to a lush green park. Make it a picnic and you'll be surprised. 90 minutes from Colombo Opens from 0730 to 1800, no entrance after 1700. There's a restaurant which costs same as outside. Lunch areas, washrooms and parking is adequate.
