I love The Vegetable Hunter. It’s my all-time fave vegan spot (and I used to live in NYC, where vegan options were plentiful). Although I would love to try everything on the menu I’m too obsessed with the tofu banh mi sandwich to get anything else. (It’s so good I almost finished it before taking the pic). It’s literally the most perfect sandwich. The micro-brewed beer and chickpea salad are favorites of my (meat-eating) boyfriend and the baked goods are so good you would never know they were vegan. The staff is also super friendly and kind. Infinite stars!!!

had we known when we ordered the wait (in what appeared to be an empty restaurant) would be 45 minutes for two burgers, we would have eaten elsewhere. the ordering staff was kind and apologetic but wouldn’t budge in getting out food out any faster. i asked at 20 minutes and 30 minutes (they’re almost done making the chick’n upstairs) and finally because of a timed tour at the capitol we asked for our meal to go, and sat there on the capitol grounds “enjoying” our now cold sandwiches. 45 minutes later we got our to-go bag. maybe it was a fluke. the food was tasty but quite salty. it’s hard to leave a best review when service, especially in these times, is so much a part of the experience. we had an indoor table. but once again, as it’s been for over a year now, we ended up with massive plastic and tin foil packaging, and messed around cold food. the opportunity for something so much better was right there! a shame we didn’t get to take advantage of that.

Excellent food! I was so happy to find an all vegan menu and the food exceeded expectations. Both meals were excellent, as was the cookie we had to try! We dined in and the food was a bit slow to be delivered to our table (about 40 minutes for two plates) but you could tell they were busy with takeout orders and the server was apologetic and thanked us for our patience. We were fine with the wait and it was well worth it! Even my husband, who is not vegan, enjoyed his meal! Pictured are our meals: Spinach and Pesto Mac and Cheese Pita with Kale Salad (10/10) and Eggplant Reuben with Chikpea Salad (10/10) Not pictured: Smores Cookie (10/10)

Such a unique place and experience! My dad is a vegetarian and we took him here for Father’s Day. I love how eclectic the restaurant is! The decor was very cool. They have places to sit inside, out front, out back and upstairs. The upstairs is where they typically have happy hours. Absolutely delicious food! I tried the vegan mac n’ cheese with pesto in a freshly made pita and it was delicious! I think they make their own cashew cheese as well. The drinks were refreshing and didn’t taste like they had a ton of sugar in them. The chef served us the food himself and the lady out front was so attentive to everything we needed! Wish I had time to try everything on the menu!

They are not the same as a year ago! Everything is prepared differently by the workers. Just not good anymore. Today was my last day eating there, it's not worth the money. Decided to go back and that was a huge mistake. The chef didn't show up this day and half of the menu was not available. I ordered tacos and they just through the tofu on the tacos with nothing else. The worker said this is how she was taught to make it. Such ashame because it should to be a good spot to go.

A friend and I were driving back home from a long trip and stopped in the Harrisburg location for what we thought would be some good food. When you walk in, the place looks very unkempt and dirty and no one greets you. When we ordered, we asked for the brown sugar coconut latte and the worker made a comment saying “I think I know how to make that.” We continued to order the Peruvian potatoes, a bahn mi and the chicken bacon ranch sandwich. We waited over a half hour for our food as we overheard the workers talking about “new management, being understaffed, the managers husband is a chef and if he saw this kitchen, what are they going to to do fire me.. go ahead I’ll find another job in 3 days.” It was all very overwhelming. When our food was finally brought over we asked about the Peruvian potatoes we ordered and the waitress responded “oh yeah, thanks for reminding me, I forgot to make those. Would you like a dessert in place of it instead?” (The desert in the case was a sad small donut and an old looking cupcake with melted green frosting.)We asked if she could just take them off our bill and she said that the had to see how she could do that. As we sat there looking at our food, it was pitiful. My bahn mi was definitely not a bahn mi, it was a large piece of break with a couple brown pieces of tofu and some sauce and a little bit of old shredded carrots. My friends sandwich was just a chicken patty with some sauce, a piece of lettuce and tomatoe. It was not cheap either, so that was not what we expected. As we sat their deciding what to do, the chatter and throwing around of items from the workers continued. Then I hear water dripping and I look up to find that the roof is leaking right next to our table. We asked for our money back and just wanted to get out as soon as possible. The other worker had no problem giving the refund, she did not even ask why or anything. Just did it like it was a normal every day thing. Whatever this location was raved about being, which is why we made the stop, it no longer is and that’s too bad. Would highly NOT recommend. The staff is not properly trained and this place looked extremely uncared for. If I could give no stars, I would.

I experienced incredible hospitality at this local vegan restaurant. I would strongly suggest you get the protein bowl. This place is kosher and and sanitation practices are amazing. The staff is amazing and I consider this place 100% transgender friendly.

Disclaimer: I really hate it when I have to give a vegan establishment a low rating. The Mac and cheese I ordered was the worst Mac and cheese I've had by a mile and a half. It tasted like dried up macaroni and no cheese or any other flavor to speak of. The pulled pork sandwich was decent. A little too sweet for me personally. Service was alright.

Stopped by here on the way to DC. What an amazing find! I ordered the taco bowl and it was so delicious and flavorful! The drinks were perfect and wasn't overly sweet. The mac and cheese tasted delicious as well. Oh and the portions were huge!

Once again, The Vegetable Hunter has delivered: on deliciousness, on colorfulness, on kindness. As a self-designated Kindness Curator, I go around to different places looking for the perfect pairings of goods/services and kindness. The Vegetable Hunter is one of those few places that has mastered the customer experience. I recommend dining on the second floor where there are guitars you strum in between luscious bites. I also recommend leaning over and asking your stranger-neighbor what they got and if they like it. The last time I did that, my stranger-neighbor and I became fast friends and exchanged pictures of rainbows from our travels. We hug. Beautiful energy was exchanged. Our auras expanded that day. Who know what miracle you might experience when you go! #GodIsAwesome #JesusIsLord #ParacleteIsPowerful

I am from the Washington DC area and we have a lot of restaurants that serve vegan food. Why did I have to come to Harrisburg for the best chicken sandwich I ever had !!! The sandwiches are extremely flavorful and filling . My husband loved the cupcake, the pineapple/ apple. We are extremely happy customers and will definitely return !!! On top of that the customer service went out of their way to accommodate our meal !! Thank you again for the opportunity to indulge on your wonderful vegan food.

Came here for the first time and got a cheese steak with some sort of chickpea salad on the side. The cheese steak was amazing, I could eat the chickpea salad by the bucket. Can't wait to come back.

The food was very unappealing it was our 1st time going to the location and we asked the host what they thought of the food and what their favorites eats/drinks are. We couldn't hear her and she really didn't communicate well with us. So we just kind of winged it on what to eat.. I end up getting the crab handheld it was so dry and very little sauce came with it the mac tasted soggy. We sat down with a really good energy because the drinks are phenomenal. Unfortunately my partner ordered the barbecue chicken sandwich and it was extremely dry bun and way to much mayo where it's falling out. I really didn't want to leave a review but when we seen the $45.00/50 price you its kind of hard not to. The blueberry lemonade is phenomenal and the Mango sour crush is amazing aswell. I'm super upset I really wanted to like this 😔

Loved the food at this place, absolutely delicious but the service was the worst. Stopped by on our way through on a road trip. Location: amongst a street with other places. We parked on a side street (had to pay to park) and walked over. Atmosphere: small inside. Indoor and outdoor seating available. There were tables located upstairs but man, that staircase is so dangerous. A seriously easy staircase to fall down because it is so steep. Food: awesome, delicious options. We got the crab cake pita & bbq mac & cheese chicken sandwich. Both tasted soo good and wished we had more. Portion size of the sandwich was more like a mini slider and not worth the cost ($13). Service: terrible. Nobody ever checks on you. They literally forgot my order, even after bringing my mom's food. I went downstairs to ask, they said they forgot and said they would bring it. Another 10 min later and nothing. Went back downstairs and they apparently gave it to someone else. And when I finally got my sandwich it was smaller than a slider. Literally like 3 bites. We also heard several other guests complaining about the service- forgotten foods, foods not tasting right, lack of service, and even ordering food and waiting 15-30 min before being told it was sold out. Overall, great tasting food but the service absolutely kills the whole vibe. We aren't from the area but if we were, the service alone would keep us away.

A friend recommended Vegetable Hunter to me since I drive through Harrisburg on my way to DC all the time and I’m glad she did. It’s so delicious! And the location is very cute. Will be stopping again on my way back through.

This is a pretty great place to stop for vegan food in Harrisburg!! I came with a couple friends and overall we enjoyed our experience. The nachos were delicious, but I wish there were more chips -- at the end there was a little too much dip. I loved the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, so delicious, just not very filling! Some of the portions are a little small, admittedly. But everything was fresh!! Service was friendly, albeit a little slow. This is such a fun place to stop for a meal though, and I loved the atmosphere!!

Coming from a meat eating person, everything was great. The chickpea salad is a little spicy which was a pleasant surprise, and the kale salad was amazing as well. I forgot that vegans don't eat dairy products and got halfway through my pesto grilled cheese without realizing it! Everything is fresh and delicious, thank you!

This place has it all! I am gf and dairy free. I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious food I ate (superfood and traditional burger, sweet potato fries and pumpkin mini Bundt cakes. The service was exceptional, the place was clean and decorated sooooo cute! I wish I lived closer, I would be back all the time!

Check of this picture of this cheese steak I got… I can’t recommend this spot. Got a chicken sandwich that wasn’t my thing at all. Also got this cheese steak? Had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get a refund. I went out of my way to support a fellow vegan business and was massively dissatisfied with the food I did get, and didn’t get.

Very frustrated how hit or miss this place is. I’ve eaten here close to 10 times now. Half the times, I left there feeling full and proud of myself for choosing to support a local vegan business. The other half of the times, the food was consistently “meh” or as it was today, which was a disappointment. I usually order the super food bowl. My bowl today was missing the spicy beet salad, the hummus, and the chickpeas. Those are my favorite parts of the bowl and that is over half of the components of the bowl. Now on to the service, I was left on hold for 10+ minutes. I ended up hanging up because I could hear that they weren’t even helping any customers at that point. I had to order in person. And the man in line behind me showed up for his take-out order only to be told it wasn’t ready for another 15 minutes. I really really wish this place was consistent and not as laid back of a vibe because it’s bleeding into the food and service.

I was in Harrisburg for a basketball tournament over the weekend and Googled “vegan restaurants in Harrisburg PA” and Vegetable Hunter popped up. The other vegan restaurant that popped up was closed. SO GLAD I WENT HERE!!! OMG!!! My friend and I ordered two salads (the Super Food salad & another one), Mac n cheese, Masala soup, and a bacon n ranch chikn sandwich. Trust me when I tell you that this place is INSANELY GOOD!!! Went to the first original location. The regional manager was very pleasant and polite. Actually everyone there gave us amazing service. The restaurant layout & decor was artsy and playful. The Green Goddess dressing is the best salad dressing I have ever had IN MY LIFE and that’s saying a lot because I’m almost 60 years old. I am going to try to plan a day trip to the area JUST TO COME HERE TO EAT. We will be coming back!!!

Rock solid vegan and beer spot. I can't think of anything better than craft beer and vegan restaurant in one. Tasty beers and delicious food.

First time at a vegan restaurant and I was not disappointed. The food was tasty, well seasoned and fresh. The beer was also very good and they had different options (you can find them on their website). Would definitely recommend.

The staff was very nice. The elderflower cocktail was quite good. I wish it came chilled or with ice though. We really enjoyed the Vanilla Cupcake and cookie. However, the rest of the food was very hit or miss for us. We really had high expectations so maybe that is part of it. My Eggplant Reuben was fine, a little too salty for my taste and the eggplant skin was super tough. It would have been nice if the sandwich was cut in half. We only were given forks. My daughter’s meal was the Pesto Mac & Cheese Pita. It was bland, edible, just not very enjoyable. Our appetizer was the Curried Dal Dip. It was also a little bland. I think for us the texture of the whipped lentils was off putting but I think others would like it. The pretzel bread was delicious. The side salads of chickpeas or kale were tasty. I don’t normally like to give less than a five star review but I want others to know what to expect because our lunch cost almost 60.00. That included one appetizer, one cocktail, two entrees and a lemonade. Not too expensive but not cheap either. Try it you might really like it. I love to support local businesses. Could have just been an off day.

Been coming here for YEARS. Food isn’t bad, service is consistently terrible time and time and time again. Today I waited an hour for 2 sandwiches because they forgot our order, making this the 4th time this has happened. If this want the only vegan restaurant in Harrisburg I’d probably stop coming back.

Yummy food! I love having a vegan restaurant so close to my house.

Very friendly staff, and a wonderful little spot with delicious food! The Bahn-Mi sandwich was wonderful, as was the Chickn sandwich! Admittedly, I’m a non vegan that usually doesn’t enjoy most options, but this place was fantastic — a definite stop for any locals!
