My week at PPI was the worst experience of my entire life. Patients are treated like criminals, totally degraded. Nothing but hard surfaces, stale air, foul odors, constant noise, locked doors and a facility that is both sterile and filthy. The food is awful. The employees do their best with extremely limited resources and chronic under-staffing. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! I heard back from PPI , here where it is public, and they say they're sorry they didn't meet my expectations. But a week after I escaped from their facility I wrote them a seven page letter, suggesting many no-cost improvements. Two months later they have still not responded. Again, the employees do their best with insufficient funding, but the management is uncaring and incompetent.

Absolute joke of a mental hospital. And im going to write this with my full name so they know who they did wrong. Food was a privilege for some kids. Kids there were completely unruly and other kids were punished for the behavior of someone else. Staff had no kind of safety prevention. Staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. Their charge nurse is an absolute joke of a man. I was at blame for being attacked, and sedated for acting out when they tackled me and held me down FOR BEING ATTACKED, by another paitent witch received no punishment. Instead, I was left in a room with a concussion and sedated for over well 3 hours. Staff here is a joke. And so are the “doctors”. Never send your kid here if you actually want them to get help. Most of the kids that left this place are still is horrible shape and even worse after their visit. Do yourself and your loved one a favor and don’t send them to this horrible institution.

Dr. Jain was my outpatient psychiatrist. He was incredibly rude and dismissive, and belittling. I didn't feel an ounce of compassion from him as a mental health professional. We disagreed on some things, which I understand, but he didn't need to be so rude when vulnerable people come in for help. He embodies the problems I have with psychiatrists. I've been to a handful of psychiatrists throughout my life and really, I haven't experienced one who left me feeling so bad afterwards.

Absolutely HORRIBLE! My daughter was in this facility for 20 days! She was supposed to be here a week. This is our first experience as a family dealing with such horrible, uneducated people who work in a facility. The doctor my daughter was given DIDN'T truly listen to what we were saying at all. They had all her intake information incorrect. The doctor insisted she was admitted for suicidal idealizations which wasn't even correct. My daughter was a run away and our only options given at the time she was found was admit her to a mental facility or send her to juvenile detention. My daughter is currently dealing with PTSD and was scheduled for trauma therapy which could only be booked 2 weeks out at the earliest when I got her an apt. By, then she took off. We knew she was dealing with a mental health issue and this was the best alternative of the two and we were led to believe she'd be there just for an evaluation and health check since she was gone for 5 days. That ended up not happening at all. The doctor and nurse my daughter had I was not happy with at all. The doctor will talk down to you. She wanted to push pills on my child. On one of our virtual meetings she had someone's else's information and said my child tried overdosing on pills about a year prior. Which as completely false given my child can't even swallow medications. Then she nonchalantly was like oops, yea that's not hers. To a parent on the other end of a virtual "family session" it was an absolute joke and a huge mistake. You can't hear them half the time. You as a parent are talked down to and treated like a child. My husband and I felt they tried pinning us against each other. When I said no to the meds another person went to him rather then take what we said as a no. My child was bit by another patient and again we were told 2 different things. My husband was only told she received a bruise. While I was told the reason she had a bruise was a boy who bit her. These things went on and on with poor communication and different stories from people we spoke too. All are family sessions were not planned well. As a provider they should have a better game plan. In fact this facility and their methods made things worse for our whole family. The crisis plan and coping skills given (ice chips, putty and apparently a twitchy movement that makes your kid "release energy" from her hands) well...they were a joke. My daughters new twitch looked more like a patient who had Parkinson's and if it was helping her this began making the rest of us feel uneasey. My child's intake/out take forms were so messed up. My daughter's crayon journal notes specifically state she's not a suicide risk and then progressively change to feeling depressed .The trauma therapist couldn't meet with her in the facility, it then held up the truly qualified people from helping. This place was more like a summer camp with all the arts and crafts, ice cream, movies, and music therapy. But, who knows what was in between the fun because the info on the sheet our daughter said wasn't even what did occur.Upon discharge we were set up with no real game plan other then partial. My daughter came out so much worse. She was eating like a feral child,no longer wanted to shower. She became demanding, rude and a completely different child. As a parent who didn't know if my child was alive or dead for 5 days I wanted nothing more then to hug and see my child but that didn't happen. These people kept my child further from me. As someone who has CPTSD myself I tried explaining their methods were more damaging to me, my family and in trying to reconnect my child. Instead I've grieved my teenager as though she is dead because they further kept us apart, her little brother is now struggling with this and our family is falling apart. Her brief stay home was short lived and my child had to sit over 80 hours in a ward at the hospital waiting for a room to open for a pediatric patient at another facility. PPI is terrible.Overall the mental health crisis is terrible. I hope this stay else where is better.

I'm currently a patient only because nobody else had openings. I'm not impressed. It's like pulling teeth just to get someone on the phone, even worse trying to get paperwork filled out. Mental health is a joke in this country and PPI just keeps proving that stereotype right.

I would give zero stars if I could. Do NOT send your child here for the partial program if you want anything productive to be done. Literally no help from start to finish and not even any continuity of care that was promised. I don’t have one nice thing to say about this facility or most of the staff. Our case worker was friendly and that’s about it.

After being what I think was involuntarily committed by an actual crazy person, I with no real mental ailments, would never EVER recommend this place or doctors or anything. I respect doctors and people that want to genuinely help people but this place and it's campuses are awful. You go to these places with no issues and they'll make sure they do their best to give you some. It's a business not in the name of helping people. Being apart of their studies and stuff only made me realize how sane and normal I really am and how awful and how much malpractice goes on in those type of places.

Was inpatient here, a lot of the therapists who come in to do groups are really helpful and kind. 85% of the staff are really kind too and the food is really good compared to others.

Are you KIDDING ME? I had a telehealth appointment for January 10, 2024 and I got a robocall confirming this about 2 days before the appointment. The day comes and I don’t get a link, so I start calling. Outpatient services won’t answer so I call again and the receptionist transfers me again and tells me to call back if they still don’t answer. I do that and she puts me through to someone who said he was the “admissions manager” who “doesn’t know what’s going on but he will find out and definitely call me back.” Guess who didn’t call? It’s hard having a mental health issue and getting in anywhere. I finally find a place and they constantly jerk me around rescheduling appointments (try me PPI, I have it all documented), but they would fill my medications so I wasn’t too upset about having appointments rescheduled 2 and 3 times by them. Now I have an appointment and they can’t be bothered to show up. I was told today that they’re not doing telehealth right now? Did anyone tell me? Did the robocall tell me this changed? Nope. These practices are horrible for someone who depends on medication to function and if they don’t know this they shouldn’t be in practice.

Spent 5 days into the New Year, it was quite an experience and learned more about my mental impairment and they were fast finding the right treatment. Had no issues with staff, they were all really cool. Food could be improved but it's better than prison food and you can increase your servings. I do miss the place and actually wanna maybe return for volunteer work and possibly become a certified counselor. I loved expressing my energy with everyone.

Terrible experience. This institution’s doctors actually pushed me closer to suicidal tendencies, for which I had to get further counsel. Have you ever needed therapy to recover from bad therapy? If you’d like to, try PPI! I think this place is run by people as some big joke. I had a terrible and uncomfortable experience personally with one of the psychiatrists (Dr. Ankit Jain), and was told that there would be follow up regarding this. Instead, I was sent an angry letter about cancelling services with one of their doctors and an aggressive ultimatum about my status within their office.

My respect for this place is gone. I spent almost a month in here and the way my discharge was handled was awful. I am now worse off before I went here. Your inpatient unit is wonderful but now I feel like it was a waste with the time I spent there. Somehow the way my scripts were handled leaves me having to involuntarily go cold turkey off all my meds for 10 days because the scripts were written such that they can't refill my meds til then. So I'm completely out of meds during that time. My biggest complaint going into the hospital was that I needed a psychiatrist and a therapist because I had no services or support. Well I have been out since the end of July and the outpatient place I was referred to is a complete joke. I spent 2 hours there doing an intake and paperwork just for at the end to be told they have no clue when I will see a therapist or psychiatrist. You would think someone would research places for care for patients to make sure they could be guaranteed to get care before putting in refferals. So I'm left with no services and no meds and am worse off than before I went here. What a waste of my time and my insurance money.

I have been to this place more than once and every time it has gotten worse. The last time I was here I was overdosed and had a seizure due to it. They refused to tell me anything that had happened. I lost 4days of time and kept asking what took place while they had overdosed me and no one would say. The record of that time they claim was lost. I do not recommend!

I just got released from here after being committed by the cops. Most the staff we’re very friendly and treated you like a human not a mental patient. They accommodated my vegan diet also. It’s hard to talk to the medical doctor or nutrionsit there but you see the psychiatrist everyday. Mine seemed to listen to everything I said and worked with me on meds. Overall a good place

I have had plenty of terrible experiences with mental health care facilities throughout my lifetime dealing with the aftermath of chronic illness; therefore, also depression and grief. PPI staff have always treated me kindly, with integrity and compassion, as if they were a patient sitting next to me and wanting the same compassionate care. I would recommend this facility to every living soul who is struggling with anything small or large. They are the best in Central Pa!

My adult child had a terrible experience here. It was so bad they have continuing PTSD from sexual assault via other patients and terrible treatment from the physicians, plus such a huge financial bill that it made the anxiety they were there for so much worse. Watch out for mystery bills from other hospitals sent 9 months later who claim they treated you at PPI but won’t tell you what for. The entire experience was such a nightmare, and continues to be a year and 4 months later.

The receptionist they have is horrible. They used to have a really good one. Now the current one never answers the phone. I call during normal business hours. Multiple times a day. I leave voicemails. No response no call back. I’ve resorted to calling the main hospital anytime I need anything. I’ve been out of medication and can’t get more because of how painfully lazy and incompetent the new receptionist is. Additionally - My replacement doctor since Dr Dalke left sees me as a number instead of as a person. Instead of finding real solutions she just wanted to put me on lithium. I had a great experience with Dr Dalke for the year+ that I got to work with her. Now I’m considering moving to a different practice, one that actually cares about their patients.

Today I drove an hour to visit my partner in adolescent unit, who I've been living with for the past year. And I had confirmed with 3 staff that I'd be able to visit them. I was on the visitation list, and their parents approved me visiting ahead of time. But when I got there I was rudly turned away, and shortly after I came back up to ask a question. After sitting there for about 10 minutes, I was greeted with 2 truly unsympathetic and pushy security guards. And they forced me to leave, without me even doing anything wrong.

besides my mental hospital experience here when i was 12, i called today seeking help and besides the fact it was a back n forth voicemail game for 3 days, once i got on the phone w someone, i believe it was the new girl. not only did she have an attitude, an attitude that made me feel wrong for seeking help but she also seemed extremely irritated that i needed help as a minor.

You can't expect a five star experience from any hospital. However, this was one of the best hospitals I've been to.

i have been a inpatient in PPI. There are some good staffs and bad staffs some staff are unprofessional & immature. But most are amazing and so kind hearted. My problem with this impatient facility is that the doctors that work here are so odd. They are the complete opposite of understanding. They are so rude and they make you feel like youre crazy. And the supervisors there self- pity themselves so much it’s extremely weird.

I was a patient here with Dr Dalke for 3 years before she left and stuck me with Dr Kunkle and Dr Passley-Clarke, and immediately they made me unsafe and discharged me from treatment for being transgender and for asking for an anxiety medication to help with my severe anxiety that stems from complex post traumatic stress disorder due to being a trafficking and CSA survivor. Instead they have prevented me from seeing a psychiatrist, and they tried to force me to stop taking the lithium I've been taking for 15 years by refusing to let me access refills. I've called the patient advocate and I was promised a new doctor and refills until I found one. Instead, I was offered an appointment at 8 am on a day I work despite me living close to two hours away. I instead got an intake elsewhere, and now I'm not allowed to get my refills at all. Dr Kunkle told my pharmacy to not give them to me because I got a different doctor. I have 5 days of meds, a month of refills I can't access, my next appointment is the 22nd (21 days away) and the patient advocate and nurses here are refusing to do anything to make sure I don't go through lithium withdrawal. All because I mentioned being trans and wanting treatment for my diagnosis. This place isn't safe, they discriminate against the LGBT community and they purposely hurt patients who try to get treatment elsewhere. I already reported them to the state and I encourage others to as well.

READ ME. Do yourself a favor and seek treatment elsewhere. This facility is a complete JOKE. If you enjoy being laughed at, mocked, and have your trauma be downplayed then this is the place for you. It's unbelievable how poorly run this place is. The therapists are a joke. They must've gotten their certifications off the back of a cereal box. The "psychiatrists" are clueless. What an absolute waste of time.
