I stayed at this location for 4 nights. This hotel has updated spacious rooms that are very clean and is in a great location. The staff is extremely friendly helpful and caring. The hotel is also extremely safe with 24 hour surveillance. The layout is also great as all rooms are on ground floor with parking right in front of your room door. The microwave & mini fridge are kept very clean and are in working order. The area is in a very large shopping/ restaurant district with the mall and major restaurant chains all within walking distance or quick drive. Easy access to interstate yet far enough away to have peace and quiet inside rooms, the rooms have insulate walls you can’t hear a peep once inside even from your neighboring guest you’ll feel like no one else is there. They offer free breakfast and great amenities including laundry services. All around a great place to stay.

I chose this hotel because it was one of the cheapest available while still offering a continental breakfast. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and easily accessible from parking. The location was convenient with plenty of food options nearby. The breakfast was sufficient with oatmeal packets, cereal, bagels, toast, and yogurt, along with coffee, orange & apple juice, and milk to drink, but did not have any fresh hot food options. All in all, I was satisfied with my stay and I would choose this location again.

I am very appreciative and will remain humbled by the management team and staff at the Howard Johnson. The quality of the room was perfect, clean and comforting. Thank you for the warm hospitality. Teams like this one are what keep the hotel world turning.

Came in late at night and needed a room. The room was clean, beds were comfortable. Location was convenient (restaurants and Walmart nearby) easy in and out of U.S 33 and I-81. My only complaint is the shower. It has to be the most uncomfortable shower setup in the history of man. Midgets must stay here often. My wife is petite and could barely fit in the shower. I had to put my back to the wall just so I could fit in and get a shower. Absolutely ridiculous. The bathroom has the overall room for a wider shower, install one!

Meh. There were beds. The place is beyond run down. It needs serious help. The first room we got you did not need a key. The door would not lock. But the second was slightly better. Overall it has a decent bed, not a decent price and do not believe the pictures

Basic but clean rooms with a comfortable bed, good TV service, and fridge and microwave. A great value close to JMU and to shopping and restaurants. Internet is adequate speed but unsecured. Complementary breakfast is simple but includes coffee, juice, cereal, bagels, and mini-muffins,

This place is strange and not in a good way. Upon checking in, the lobby was fairly nice and well kept, but when we got to the room it was verging on unsatisfactory. First, there was a large step to get into the room that I was unaware of because the front desk clerk didn’t say anything about it, so I almost tripped and fell. Secondly, upon walking into the room it seemed extremely outdated and definitely lacking repair and cleanliness. There was a medium sized divet in the floor, if you walked from the front door further into the room then it felt like you were walking down a hill. Definitely a tripping hazard if not careful. Sheets were dirty, mine had fuzzies from probably someone’s pajamas or clothes, and some other dust along with crumbs. From working in hotels before I know housekeeping definitely wasn’t available as we checked in well after 9:30pm, so I know all the front desk could’ve done for me was located a pair of fresh sheets for me and just had me make the bed myself. Luckily my mother likes the room warm so I didn’t have to sleep with the sheets over me. The bath tub had weird rust or stains on the edge, along with the toilet was basically on the floor and very low. Breakfast was less than satisfactory, all they had were bagels, bread, oatmeal packets, yogurts, juices and coffee. Nothing else. What are we back in 2020? Where are the waffles and other hot food? Don’t advertise hot breakfast if you don’t have any. Don’t offer continental if you don’t have it. Overall it provided a place to sleep for the night but I barely got any sleep because the bed made me itchy despite me not finding anything disgusting in the bed besides the crumbs. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Oh, one more thing, we listened to a group of people next door to us talk and laugh in front of our door for over an hour. Walls are paper thin and I know there was nothing to be done because there was an elderly woman working the front desk and I doubt she would’ve handled the situation by herself. Quiet hours should be posted outside rooms as well as inside rooms and the quiet hours should be enforced with security on the property. It also felt like the people next to us were living there because outside their door were pumpkins and a chair, yet nobody else had that on their door.

Great location. Restaurants cand shopping close by. The room was clean. Shady characters hanging around outside. The top lock on the door was broken, but the dead bolt worked. The room needs some TLC. The bathroom door had a hole in it like someone punched it. Stains in the same door that looked like blood drops. They charged me a fee for an 8 week old puppy, which I thought was ridiculous. She barely weighs 2 lbs.

Checked into room with issues. Moved to new room but given wrong keys. Finally get to room, broken drawers, marks on all walls. Non smoking room with cigarette burns on everything. Furniture stained horribly. Front desk could care less. Had 2 crackheads show up looking for drugs from previous guest. Huge drains in middle of parking lot you drive thru or barely drive thru.

This was the worst stay I have had in the 5 years of staying at this hotel. I usually stay here three times a year. This time is was very disappointing. The room had obvious water damage in the floor. The flooring around the toilet was very soft. The AC unit leaked into the room. I used a towel to stop the water and the towel was dirty from the non cleaned floor. bed was so soft I probably went down a foot. It is unfortunate that this hotel has gotten so pitiful.

Great affordable hotel to swing by if you’re sleepy on a trip down I-81. They have a great breakfast selection and coffee. The breakfast room looks to have been recently renovated and is cozy to hang before you get back on the road.

We stayed here on a weekend ski trip to Massanutten (20ish mins away). This is not a luxury hotel or anything, but by rodeside motel status this place was excellent for the price. Breakfast options were limited, but they did still offer free breakfast. I was impressed that they still have housekeeping make the beds and change towels every day; that seems to be a rarity in the motel business these days. Ample parking. Room was clean and tidy, although clearly not new, with some minor wear & water stains on the furniture. Shower was hot, no problems with hot water, tho the pressure wasn't spectacular. You're only a few minutes from JMU and the main bar/dining area of Harrisonburg. Would be happy to stay here again for a similar trip.

Check in lady was rude. Next morning I needed a key programmed and the guy was rude. Housekeeping guy was rude. "Breakfast" was a joke with just bagels, mini muffins, and bread. "Don't take food back to room" signs all over. Rude. Room smelled like an Indian restaurant. Housekeeping used shopping carts from a grocery store.

sheets had stains on them, toilet was really loose. The shower plate where the handle is to turn on the water was hanging down and you could see the pipes in the wall. The door lock was broken but fixed during stay. The remote for the TV had no back and wouldn't shut off the TV. No TV guide, not even on the TV. Hole in bathroom wall. Sink leaked when brushing teeth and soaked floor. No hot breakfast. Door trim on entrance door near the floor broke and jagged.

Pictures are deceiving. Our room was GROSS and had a hole in the bathroom door. They couldn't find our reservation. Then gave us a key to a room that had people in it. Said it sleeps 5 but only had two full/queen beds and no cot or sleeper sofa. I do not recommend this place at all. Spend a little extra.

Disappointed in our stay at Howard Johnson by Wyndham Harrisonburg. There was cigarette holes burned into the blankets and even someone's initials doodled on to the cover. There was cigarette ashes on the top of the toilet tank and the main door could easily be opened with just a push. We brought this to the employees attention and even showed them and they simply shrugged it off and said the door is closed its fine. There was dirty spots and stains all over the room and the breakfast consisted of the absolute minimum of bagles and toast. I know breakfast and complimentary so I won't fault them for not haveing more but the cleanliness of a room and safety of your guest should be a priority for any hotel.

Older building. Overall relatively clean. But water seeped up from the floor when you flushed the toilet. Staff were very nice and it was a nice easy stay. Wouldn't stay more than 1 night though.

Everything was fine until it was time to leave. I personally witnessed a gentleman that works in housekeeping be very rude to a paying guest the next morning relating to the linens that needed to be taken to laundry. My friend that actually paid for the room and was continuing his stay (I was just a visitor) was leaving to take me home and was told by this gentleman that he needed to take his own laundry to the laundry room or he was not getting any fresh sheets. He asked my friend very rudely may I say "why are those sheets needing to go to laundry" and when my friend responded " I had a nosebleed the gentleman replied very rudely " "Well you take them to the laundry room yourself or you're not getting fresh ones". Am I wrong for thinking that this task isn't my friends responsibility, it's housekeeping's responsibility to make sure that all used laundry by guests gets where it needs to go to be washed? He was a little on the hostile side and it was unnecessary.

My room was clean and no issues. The only thing is that the walls are too thin so I could hear whenever someone moves around in the room next to mine or outside but other than that the staff was great and everything was clean and working properly. I would definitely book again though I hope I won't have to since the plan is for me and my boyfriend to move there.

Wasn't a bad place. Bathroom fan didn't work, remote had no batteries, but front desk got some right away. Complimentary breakfast could have been better. Mattresses should be replaced as they weren't the most comfortable.

There were little red spider looking bugs in the bed and woke up with a bunch of bites. The non smoking rooms smelled like smoke. Very sketchy. The bottom of the wall/top of carpet area was literally falling off. The main light switch did not work. Do not recommend

Smoking rooms Look Nothing like the pics online. SMOKING ROOMS ARE NOT RENOVATED. Stains on the walls. Electrical tape on the shower head. Weird Smell most likely the smoking from guest and Comforters Are not washed. They were stained. However Sheets were clean. I would only recommend as a last resort. For a place to lay your head. Had to place a towel on the tub before my shower. As rub was stained a white paint peeling. Front desk was nice gave me a late check out, as I was at an interview.

So...it's a HoJo. Not going to have a 5-star experience. However, I didn't find any of the issues some have complained of. The room was clean and in good condition. The building itself has had much recent work. The hotel staff actively sought someone to switch reservations with my parents (81 & 80) so they could have an accessible room. I'd stay again.

College weekend so was overcharged $320 per night, which is a crime. Bed was comfortable and parking lot was well lit. Room was dirty and needs serious updating. Nobody at the desk at check out time. Bath towels were stained and small. Breakfast was all carbs, no healthy or fresh choices. Pass this place on by if you can.

First room AC and refrigerator were broken. Staff was friendly and helpful. They moved us to another room. Sheets and tub had some stains. We paid 76 a night (May into June). This is one of the lowest prices in the area. Location is great. Middle of town. Lots of restaurant choices or shopping. We were visiting shanendoah national park. This hotel is about 30 minutes from the swift run gap entrance.

Do not stay here. I did not feel safe at all. Checked in and was there for a whole 15 minutes and checked out and went to a different hotel. Do not waste your money on this place. Seems like a good price but spend the money to stay somewhere nicer. Booked a 2 night stay and would not give me the refund for the 2nd night. Random people walking around outside and did not feel safe.

The front desk woman is very helpful and nice. However, the nonsmoking room still smelled like latent cigarettes, and the cleaning people tucked the sheets and arranged the pillows to make it seem like they cleaned but didn't actually change linens with clean ones during my stay. These are outdated rooms. Breakfast is bagels, cereal, oatmeal, or toast. Definitely make sure and ask for your 25 deposit back at check out or the owner will let you go without it.

Rooms have been re done from when it was another motel. It was clean and safe. I didn't spend much time there. Pretty sorry breakfast, mostly bread and cereals. You can park at the door to your room so not far to walk. Parking lot was well lit.

The bathroom is very small! The toilet is for a small person definitely not for a tall or obese person. The king bed is very uncomfortable, the mattress is worn out! There's metal around the bottom of the bed that's like the skirting and if you touch it it makes a really loud noise. The room was dusty and there was hair in the bathroom, on the wall and in the tub. The refrigerator was set on a two and it was not cold to put my leftovers in after dinner. Overall this room was okay for a quick night stay in an emergency but next time I will definitely go elsewhere.

This was not a bad place to stay the night. Made a pit stop here and was pleased to get a clean room that did not smell bad. Only down side was that the towells were quiet hard as if too much detergent was used.

We stayed here after a New Years Eve function. The room was filthy, floor was sticky and clearly had something still splattered on it. The tv stand had a white substance splattered all over it and looked like someone blew their nose on the bathroom door jam. We alerted the front desk and only response we received was “Thanks for letting us know”
