If you ever wanted a fresh grinder as big as your thigh, this is the place to go. Whole grinders are expensive, but will feed you for a few days.

Excellent! I haven't been there for a while but went yesterday and it was just the way I remembered it. Very good place! Meatball & sausage combo.

Honey baked ham is my fav! Not cheap on the meat or toppings!!! Its literally a GIANT grinder. The people there are friendly and service is great! I just wish they had raw green peppers instead of the roasted ones... which are fine as well!! 😋

I'm a CT native and have heard rave reviews of Franklin throughout my life. I'm ashamed to say that today is the first time that I've been in. Of all the classic authentic Italian spots we are so blessed to have here, I've never had a better grinder. Not even close. The bread was soft and warm, the meat was seasoned beautifully and STUFFED, had the perfect ratio of fat, and the peppers......*chef's kiss* Every cell in my body is so happy. Thank you, Franklin for being such a long standing business based in tradition, pride, and love.

Absolutely delicious grinders!!!! Great service!!! Always get the roast beef grinder with everything on it! Pricey but well worth it! The large grinder can feed you for days!

Subway and these other sandwich places have nothing on gaint grinder. A bit pricey spec if your like me and get the pastrami whole grinder with everything lol I have to eat one whole now, and the other later. So it's my now and later go to sandwich. I miss the maple ave shop. Now it's only 1 in hartford

I had very low expectations, but there is a reason why “don’t judge a book by a cover exists” Franklin giant grinder shop was amazing. I haven’t had many grinder sandwiches myself and this was an amazing first experience. The man operating the shop was super friendly and helpful. Overall, just amazing! I’m from the west, but if I come back to Hartford this will be my go to.

Moved to RI last August and missed Franklin Giant Grinders. Went back to grab a Roast Beef grinder on my day off and they changed Roast Beef to the worst Roast Beef on the planet!!!! I drove 2 hours each way and it was one of the worst grinders ive ever had in my life .. the new roast beef they use is DISGUSTING!!! 2 Bites and into the trash it went... what a shame....

It's ok. It's a family owned restaurant that has been open for years. The meat portions are generous, which is the reason for the pricing. Lots of loyal customers. I don't like that I can't get any grinder choice toasted that I want. Only certain options will they let you order toasted. They don't explain why either. Expect a wait. Sometimes only one person works but they good take care of each order, which takes time. Therefore no customer was bothered with the wait time

The best grinders, but if you've never been and walkin off the street you probably would walk out because of the appearance... the deli case is the 1st thing you see, and its gross looking place needs a remodel BAD !!!

This is a staple to the Hartford area. My dad was going here for their meatball grinders when he was younger and still goes. Obviously has passed his love of their grinders on to others. The portions are out of this world. Although pricier then some other places, you get what you pay for. A full grinder can easily feed one person for a couple of days. Every so often the bread isn’t up to par which is why I didn’t give 5 stars since it’s happened often…but in terms of flavor, portion, and quality. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic Grinder! Loved the pepper and eggs. Will be back!

Definitely not what they used to be. The roast beef grinders have shrunk substantially. The prices are the same they've always been but the food has gotten smaller. You don't get that big mountain of red roast beef anymore on your grinder . (SHRINKFLATION)

If you want a great grinder, come here. There aren’t a ton of good options around the Hartford area for sandwiches like this. Try the chicken cutlet. You wont be sorry.

The best grinders in CT for my entire life! I go whenever I'm in the South End. Great quality meats and generous portions; their grinders are unmatched in my opinion!

Food is good but the service and atmosphere has definitely decline over the years. It just doesn't seem clean. The ice cream freezer had visible mold, the tables has grease and the place just looked like it was about to close for good.

Always Amazing from back in the 80's where I had my first Turkey grinder to present. The Customer Service is Awesome and the food Always Amazing. I can't get enough. I commute from Windsor Locks to the South side of Hartford just for a Franklin Grinder...It's so Worth it!

I have never eaten a grinder this good ever. I have been coming here for over 30 years. It would be nice though if the service came with a smile. But, besides that don't miss this place. It's the best in CT

Omg...I smell the good stuff going in here....the sandwich are so larger then subway and Jersey mikes..this sandwiches you will half to share. U cannot eat alone. The whole veggie sandwich 17 dollars its worth the money. Enjoy!

Food is always good. Only one guy doing everything so prepare to wait. Covid atmosphere means no seating so get comfortable with takeout. A bit pricy but by golly it was really good. Seemed like a mom and pop version of Jersey Mike's. It's a bit more meat on the sandwich but the roll is shorter. Not a full 12 inch length but it is a good 4 wide x 8 inches long. I was satisfied. I ordered a 1/2 a roast beef and 2 sodas and a bag of chips and it came to over 18.00. Well not much lettuce or tomatoes on it. There is a sign on the wall that says produce went up and there were additional costs associated with orders that require more lettuce and tomatoes. I just let the man make the sandwich and it was really good. Just lostva point for efficiency and atmosphere because both were nonexistent here.

For the crazy price of $60.00+, our 2.5 grinders shouldn't have been hard bread on all ends, more meat, and definitely not burnt eggplant. After seeing all the reviews I had thought it would have been better quality. Still sitting in my fridge 3 days later as no one liked them. What a disappointment.

Grinders that are regular are there. The last time I visited the grinder was so heavy it felt the weight of a small baby to me...what happened to a grinder shop called Yogi, cause this is it..I could never eat more than quarter of this shops grinder on Franklin. I'm bout to leave a quarter or eat it all. America we need everyone back on the table/ normal...I love this place, Geese..

This is our go-to spot whenever we are in town. We grew up near Hartford and still have family there who know Franklin Giant Grinders is going to be at least one meal while we are visiting. Call ahead to place your order as they can get busy with large orders during lunch. The meatball grinder is my favorite, though I've never had one I didn't thoroughly enjoy! Another tip, don't plan on eating one while driving; these things are loaded! Enjoy!

What an edible experience! My goodness! I haven't been since the early 90's it's so good to rekindle the flavors of Franklin Grinders... I had the turkey with provolone cheese extra mayo, lettuce with peppers... I couldn't wait to get home to eat, had one bite in the car and couldn't stop. Now that my pallet has been reunited with the flavors of Franklin Grinders.. I will be back real soon. This family oriented Grinder shop is so welcoming, calm, the lines go fast but we didn't mind waiting it's so worth it! Awesome Customer Service and lots of love in the food. Go and get your experience you won't be disappointed!

This one of the best grinder shops. They never skimp on the meat or cheese or other ingredients. Half of one of their grinders is more than a full meal. We have got grinders at this shop for 40 years.

It’s rare to find a place that understands a true grinder. One of the best spots Ive ever been to. Do yourself a favor and go here. Also the roast beef is amazing.
