We’ve only visited the Cathedral from outside. This white coloured structure forms an iconic view from the yard in front of her. She is beautiful. If you’re visiting Helsinki for very short time even for a transit, this place is a place for “must visit”.

Helsinki Cathedral is the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of the Diocese of Helsinki, located in the neighborhood of Kruununhaka in the centre of Helsinki, Finland at the Senate Square. The church was originally built from 1830–1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. It was also known as St Nicholas's Church until the independence of Finland in 1917. It is a major landmark of the city, and possibly the most famous structure in Finland as a whole when viewed globally.

Beautiful and iconic cathedral located in the centre of Helsinki, capital of Finland is a must visit, located at the Senate Square. The church was originally built from 1830–1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. It is a major landmark of the city, and possibly the most famous structure in Finland as a whole when viewed globally. It's equally beautiful during the day and night time. The day we went it was not too crowded, we could sit peacefully to offer prayers. It was quite rejuvenating.j

One of Helsinki’s many landmarks. Definitely worth stopping by during the day, but at night time it’s particularly beautiful. Great photo opportunities around the large square surrounding it. There’s special activities and events that take place throughout the year in this square. Also, this is where the opening sequence in the music video for “Darude - Sandstorm” was filmed!

Located next to the Senate Square, it looks elegantly in white. The interior is quite simple compared to other Cathedrals. Tickets in advance are not required.

This stunning cathedral is situated on the northern side of the Senate Square. The cathedral is very impressive from inside and out. The white colour and green domes makes the cathedral even more more magnificent. You must take a few steps before you reach the cathedral but it's worth visiting. The entry fee is 5€ per person.

The most iconic monument in Helsinki. A must-visit place. It's the most simple church i ever visited. Catholics and Orthodox have more flamboyant churches. Very stunned to see such simple church. Absolutely loved it. Every tourist in Helsinki should see this place.

Beautiful and iconic cathedral located in the central area of Helsinki. Free entry. The steps infront of the cathedral are really high. Definitely a must visit when you are in the capital city of Finland!

It’s a Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral located in the neighborhood of Kruununhaka in the centre of Helsinki. The church was originally built from 1830–1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia and it’s part of the Helsinki's Empire era centre and a landmark for those arriving by sea. Today the cathedral is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Helsinki. Annually more than 350,000 people visit the church, some of them to attend religious events, but most as tourists. The church is in regular use for both worship services and special events such as weddings.

We have been here during wintertime and enjoyed the impressive building from the outside. There are big stairs in front of the building you need to climb to get to the church. Inside it was a bit disappointing since the walls are mostly just plane white. Even if it says the entry fee is five euros it is free since the fee is voluntary. We spent there about ten minutes in total.

Very impressive cathedral. I was here in March of 2019 and it was really cold, so there was not much going on. I can imagine that the place around the cathedral is very popular in the summer seasons. Hopefully I will make it back here when it is a bit warmer.

Beautiful space, and impressive exterior. Unfortunately the Cathedral can get rather busy, so prayer is not guaranteed to be a quiet affair

Impressive Dom in the center of Helsinki posing on a hill. Good view over parts of the city from the top of the stairs. The Dom can be visited for a voluntary admission and is kept quite simple inside but worth seing it!

Beautiful Cathedral in the heart of Helsinki. Everything looks so majestic and elegant from the outside making you wonder what there's inside and...inside there's nothing. Very austere like the protestant mindset

The Helsinki Cathedral towers over the other buildings. It's white washed look and steps leading to it make it very photogenic. The inside is very austere but still very beautiful. I think they have a 20 minute organ recital @ noon and that's quite enjoyable. Must do if you are in Helsinki. Don't miss the Finnish National Library next door

The church is beautiful and has a wide step for visitors to sit and relax. Although, the church was not opened at the time I visited. The environment was lovely with tram stops close by and the Helsinki city museum just 3 minutes away.

One of the best sites to be visited when coming to helsinki. Charming and great building that is breathtaking. It is located in the center, with an arena in front of it, close to the waterfront and Orthodox cathedral

The Helsinki Cathedral, with its neoclassical architecture and commanding presence, indeed offers a captivating blend of beauty and history. The views from its steps overlooking the city add to the enchanting experience.

In my opinion Helsinki Cathedral is not quite as attractive as Uspenski, but definitely a must visit church if you are in Helsinki. You can see the monument from quite far away, so it dominates the Helsinki skyline. I was surprised by the inside - it really wasn’t decorated much like most cathedrals with mosaics etc. To enter a 5 Euro donation is asked which can only be paid by card.

It's a nice building. When we went, there were prayers happening but we were still allowed to go in quietly. I thought it was quite plain looking compared to other cathedrals I've visited. But it's still worth a look.

A very iconic place to visit in Helsinki. The history is fascinating too. It’s simplicity and beauty stands out at the center of the Senate Square. It is the home of the world famous Choir of Helsinki Cathedral.

The Tuomiokirkko stands as a distinguished symbol in Helsinki, its striking white facade commanding attention and admiration. Its location not only enriches the city's skyline but also provides a picturesque backdrop for those fortunate enough to work in its vicinity. The cathedral's steps become a charming retreat in the summer, allowing locals and tourists alike to soak in the atmosphere of this bustling city.

Stunning cathedral both outside and inside. Nice to sit inside and just enjoy the beautiful decor. It was busy but not packed, People just came and went quick enough, and it's a large cathedral, so there was no queue, and it was free!!

Very nice on the outside. A photo of the church is mandatory. Nice and quiet inside. Sit down and plan your next move 😄 5 EUR admission fee.

This building obviously dominates the square here. Hugely impressive from the outside, it’s much more restrained on the inside. The inside is quite plain - particularly if you compare it to the Orthodox cathedral just down the road. You can go inside if you’d like. They do ask for a €5 donation. Well worth a visit if you’re passing, but I wouldn’t go too far out of your way!

Helsinki Cathedral A landmark in the Helsinki cityscape, with its tall, green dome surrounded by four smaller domes. It is one of Helsinki's most popular tourist attractions. The church is in regular use for services of worship and special events such as weddings. Easily accessible from the city center, walking distance or you can take a tram ride.

Beautiful outside, a little plain on the inside. But overall it’s a symbolic building of Helsinki. Great check-in place if you are a tourist in Helsinki.

Typical Russian architecture ( it seems that was build by Russians as the most of the beautiful buildings at Helsinki), which is the beauty of this temple. The huge instrument inside, it is really impressive. Any way is lack of spirituality. I felt nothing inside, and was more than obvious that this church was build like an orthodox one.

Not much to say beyond Wow! I’m not a very religious person but this church impresses. The architecture is beautiful and it was so peaceful when we visited I wanted to stay and enjoy it for awhile. There is an absolutely MASSIVE organ that I would love to hear but we weren’t so lucky on the day we visited. I recommend blocking out a good 20-30 minutes for this cathedral to make sure you get a good look inside and out. If you’re in a pinch you could do it in 5-10 and get the idea. Admission is free but you can do a quick and easy 5€ donation if you are so inclined.

A truly beautiful building inside and out. Definitely worth a visit. Has stunning views of the surrounding area due to its placement too.

I always enjoy visiting. Famous stairs under the snow, small part cleaned for the brave..

  • 5/5 Tomasz S. 2 years ago on Google
The church inside is highly uninteresting. What maks it worth attention is the location, unusual outside architecture and visibility from far far away.

  • 5/5 Cale O. 1 year ago on Google
Gorgeous! Simple yet beautiful, a nice refuge from the cold. They were also playing 80s songs in the organ inside, which is absolutely a plus.

  • 3/5 Beatriz D. 1 year ago on Google
Outside is beautiful, but inside is pretty basic. Anyways I will recommend to climb the steps and go around the building, there are nice views from it's every corner.

Helsinki Cathedral is the most famous building in Helsinki. It built in 1852, also known as the White Church. It is really beautiful. I will go there again in winter when it dress in snow.

Helsinki Cathedral Helsinki Cathedral is perhaps the most iconic edifice in Helsinki’s cityscape. The chalk-white, blue-domed Helsinki Cathedral dominates the Senate Square from its position above the stairs leading to it from the square. The cathedral was also designed by Carl Ludwig Engel but was only finished in 1852, 12 years after his demise. Its exterior is graced by statues of 16th-century Protestant reformers like Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon, and Mikael Agricola, who translated the Bible into Finnish. Its interior is quite spartan as is customary with most Lutheran churches.

  • 4/5 Chong X. 1 year ago on Google
Impressive interior and exterior. It's nice if you go early and miss the crowd which will start to come in around 10am+.

  • 5/5 Sam M. 1 year ago on Google
Helsinki Cathedral is an iconic stop for everyone coming to Helsinki. The design is gorgeous and the size is massive. Don’t let the pictures fool you, it is big! :D and totally worth the visit.

  • 5/5 Alexandra R. 1 year ago on Google
Fancy architectural style of this church is definitely worth visiting. For me, the church looks more interesting from the outside, because of the complex of shapes and decoration of it. It’s a classical building that will attract your interest no matter if you believe in God or just like architecture Btw, it seems like a perfect place to go if you’re introvert, because you don’t have a lot of people inside, just like at the Senate Square in general
