I took my 2 year old child into the Kinderkrankenhaus in the late evening hours with a severe cough that was keeping her from breathing, throwing up and high fevers for 4 days. The doctor checked her lungs and heard how badly her breathing was but said “you will make it through the night and then go see your pediatrician in the morning.” Knowing how severe her lungs sounded, the doctor still did not check oxygen levels after I requested twice. She sent us home that night with no medication or anything to assist the breathing. The next morning I took her into the pediatrician who checked oxygen levels right away which was extremely low and immediately knew after checked her lungs which were full of fluid that she had a severe case of pneumonia. He said the hospital should have never sent us home the night before. I will never return to Altona Kinderkrankenhaus as they clearly have doctors that are irresponsible and this is unacceptable in emergency cases.

I am not speaking for everyone here but about “that” one bad staff who should not be working here. The blonde lady at the reception on the Night Shift showing attitudes to the patients like she owns the hospital is unbelievable. I was here last night because my one year son who had over 39° fever and couldn’t sleep or eat properly, and still had to deal with this very unfriendly lady. This hospital needs to hire more people with a bit of courtesy and who knows how to put a smile on their and on patients face. That’s it.

This is probably the slowest hospital I have ever seen in Europe. If you have a genuine urgency go elsewhere. Massive completely stopped waiting line to take care of bureaucracy BEFORE the triage. Horrible service!!! Hospital managers: WAKE UP!! Triage first!!

I honestly don't understand how a children's hospital works the way that hospital works. The nurses don't seem to want to do their job. It is something incredible because it is about children but now I understand why this hospital has such a bad and negative review. How is it possible that the only Children's hospital where they have more specialists is so bad? It's amazing, especially in “Germany”.

We are waiting for 6 hours because my son's eye was swallen. I guess that every single other kid was a more serious case than my son's because in that 6 hours every other kid was served except mine. After that they took us in an examination room where we are still waiting for 1,5 hours. Probably they sent us there just to get us out of sight of the stützpunkt. Please don't bother giving me the same, typical answer you give to everybody. You can not convince me

This is a central hospital for children in area. It is a good hospital doctor wise, there is also an outside playground etc. Don't take me wrong, there are limitations with human resources and money budget everywhere, but there is definitely space for improvement. Guys, in a city where it is hard to get an appointment with a child doctor, a central facility could be much better automatized for 2023. At least an sms notification if you are approaching the end of a 30 children queue would be a good start, not to mention an app for appointments. I do not believe that a city of Hamburg cannot afford such things for hospitals, especially those for children. Ok, you are on tight budget, not many doctors for emergency children examination (although it may be up to ~4 nurses in between you and the doctor in the process). Simple restaurant like vibration based devices used in bakeries could also work.

I got mixed feelings here. First aid and triage services are horrible. Wayyyy too long (hours) to check on vital signs or provide 1st aid (not just a one time experience). Only after a Dr. has prescribed anything serious they start being effective. I hope this review helps management training and equipping their front desk staff properly.

Maybe we were lucky, we went there on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn’t busy at all. the triage process and insurance registration went smooth, in about 70 minutes we were done. On the down side, there is no pharmacy inside the hospital, you’ll have to find one around the city. On the plus side, the boxing bags are a a great idea.

My son had a throat virus, he was vomiting, not eating, abdominal pain, dehydrated had tonsillitis and a fever of over 38°. He is 7 months and they recommended that i buy him nase Tropfen and Ibuflam and just go home and give him lots to drink!!!! How can he drink when he can't even swallow his own saliva??? they also changed their minds about giving him antibiotics! How to you expect a baby to fight off a virus like Streptococcus by himself!!! Im very disappointed.

Amazing experience. Our child had high fever and stomach problems. Arrived at 5:30 in the morning. 40 min wait and then we got fantastic help. 2-3 different rotated and treated us perfect!

I am happy that the doctors really took their time to examine my daughter and but I have to say the receptionists really lacked professionalism, they smiled mockingly and talked together almost laughing when I was explaining what happened, they clearly thought I was a paranoid mum worrying about nothing. My daughter is 7 months old, so yes if she falls on her head and really seems to be in pain i will go to the ER I don't see the problem there, what kind of attitude is that ? These people either don't have kids or are total idiots or both.

If this hospital is first time for a child, it will be not easy for her/him to find some good hospital as like this at the other places. ☺️

Amazing Children's hospital in Hamburg. My daughter and accompanying wife were taken care nicely. Every doctor and nurse I spoke to are just fabulous human beings with lots of empathy for their patients. I always felt my family is in safe hands. I also received a call from them asking how my daughter is doing...Keep up the good work!

If you have kids DO NOT GO THERE. It is a waste of time regardless of waiting times. Find another hospital. My son needs (still need to see a "real" doctor) to be checked in about his neck and after 8 hours the doctor said: "go home and take ibuprofen". No checks, no nothing. The person looking to him as kind but said a few things that made me want to write this 1 star review. - Is there any doctor actually working there? Emergencies of course are first but I wonder if anything else works there. I saw everything empty or closed. One staff said IF and only IF a "real" emergency then the doctor will go to the hospital, what? where are they?. I was shocked and a bit disappointed when realized that waiting times are because the scarce interns are just too busy juggling people around and sending them home unless you come by ambulance. - We went twice to the hospital, each time spent 8 hours there without any exam or further check on my 6 years old son, they gave ibuprofen and said "maybe it is better to go home" and "come back tomorrow, maybe there is a doctor". Now I need to go to another hospital start all over again and already, kind of, expecting to be the same issues without results. For an expat perspective it was bad handled, disrespectful and lacking resources everywhere. I saw many people just going away (complaining and saying a lot of bad words) and that was a sign I was in the wrong place with my son. Altona hospitals are a JOKE, please do not go there, this is not the first episode we had in the family with bad to "non-existent" medical services.

There is no doctors in emergency service at 6:30 in the morning. Waiting for the doctor to arrive at 8:00 by giving painkillers to the patient Unfair attitude to the waiting patient: the service nurse answering phones and giving long explanations in front of the patient she started to serve to.

Very long waiting in emergency nearly 4 hours. Finally after the long wait doctors make you wait for another one hour in the consultation room. Pathetic waiting system.
