This is a beautiful place for a walk and if you like wildlife you just can't beat this place . No toilets or cafe here so bring plenty to drink and lunch and do the 8km loop round the lake . This lake has the most tiger snakes in the one area in Australia so I love it for picture taking. Still very safe to walk just stay out of long grass and please keep pets on a leash. Tiger snakes are not aggressive just give them space and they will move away quickly back into longer grass. Bird life is brilliant especially in the spring but always something to see all year round.

Am I In the city or at a nature reserve ?? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” Just 30 minutes from Scarbs, I started this most unusual hike. I walked clockwise around the reserve ( my opinion was the best way to do it ). On my right was the beautiful and serene reserve and on my left was the busy of a main road which eventually gave way to upmarket suburbia. The paper bark trees and lake are jaw dropping. Itโ€™s really a great walk that took me 3h30 to do the 11 km hike๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ The enjoyment one feels when fellow hikers nod their heads and give you a warm greeting made this a remarkable experience for me โ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ

Decent walk. Some of the path is flooded during winter and part of the walk is along a busy road.

This is such a versatile area! Lots of paths and places to explore, many lookouts and a few playgrounds along the way. A lot of grass too which is delightful. The track varies from gravel and paved. Lots of bird life and nice amount of bush. You would not think you were so close to the city it suburbia! Unfortunately there are no toilets or drink fountains anywhere on the route and a limited amount of bins which is a shame as there is also quite a bit of rubbish scattered around.

I was picked up at 8.00am by my son's friend called John and taken to a place called Herdsman Lake. Two hours of amazing bird spotting in a beautiful setting, what a way to start a day. Thank you Australia it is a lovely memory of a great time in Perth.

Lovely 8km walk. Far more unkempt and "wild" compared to Lake Monger but it is quite peaceful and birdlife is great if you're a fan of birdwatching.

It's very beautiful, quiet and serene. From the carpark; 1.5 km from settlers cottage walked to the lookout,; I saw no toilets, no dog bins, or bags. It was stunning, it's very pretty I was amazed at the amount of birds I saw at least 17 species. There was a playground at the carpark. Saw a western brown snake, pretty sure it was a juvenile on the wsy to lookout, saw a man fishing, not sure if fishing is allowed. I wouldn't take my dog's, because of snakes and birds. Not this season anyway. Stick to the path always you should be alright. Great place for walking and joggers. Very pleasant. It's a nice place.

You feel inside a marsh hundreds kilometres from the city. Almost fresh water. Hence, the environment, flora and fauna are different from that around Swan River and the kings park

Herdsman Lake was an unexpected, pleasant surprise, we didn't expect much and only proceeded to walk around the area to kill some time, but the more we explored this natural setting the more we discovered to our liking. It was very quiet and peaceful with very few other people walking around, and that could be because it was a quiet time during the week, our favourite part was after walking on a raised wooden pathway by the side of a lake and going into a visually stunning area with lots of light grey coloured trees in the water, it reminded me of movies that I had seen of the Florida everglades, it was almost a surreal experience. Anyone who has an interest in taking special photographs with a different background and landscape would appreciate spending some time walking around Herdsman Lake.

Great walk track along the lake with beautiful views of city, lake and houses around the lake. Very peaceful and relaxing. Loved the hike here. Good car park. Well signed track. There's a wild centre there with couple of playgrounds for kids around the lake. Will definitely do it again. Couldn't see any public toilet there which is a pity.
