Absolutely beautiful!! It’s breathtaking. Photos taken at the end of October 2021. Such a peaceful place to be. The ray of the sunshine makes the autumn leaves even more colorful and beautiful. There is a pathway for hikers all the way - which I strongly recommend. The day I visited was weekend and it was very crowded. The street is quite narrow. Aaaand, there aren’t proper parkings along the way. (I saw some parking spots but they seemed to be reserved for the tourist buses) It was sad to see some drivers just park the cars randomly on the street that makes other cars difficult to drive (actually making traffic jams) :( You can park the car near the Lake Towada (for free) during the busy season or you can perhaps use the parking area if not during the peak season.

Beautiful nature. Flowing, serene gorge spanning several kilometres. A couple of rest stops along the way. Hiking along the gorge made easy with a maintained pathway.

Oirase gorge is one of our favorite places in all of Japan. We’ve visited the gore two summers in a row! There has never been a greener place! The trees, the moss, wow! The forest and river are beautiful and even in the rain, this is a must see. We park at the northern parking area near the public restroom when we visit and start our walk from there. If you visit, take your time. This is not a 15 minute stop. Walk all the way, take pictures, listen to the river. It’s worth it.

-Don’t miss it -Even the photos can’t describe what your eyes will see in this beautiful nature - I recommend to start walking from Ishigedo rest area and continue until you reach Oirase Gorge ( many beautiful scenes ) - if you have Japanese driving license rent a car you can enjoy it more and see more places ( free parking) -the bus from Aomori station to Towada lake ( round trip) 5000 yen but if you have JR rail pass you can have the ticket for free -try to visit the place in The autumn season

This is one of the place you cannot miss if you are here at Tohoku region during the Autumn season. The trail is about 9 kilometers long and waterfalls cascade down into the stream. You can used either your JR pass or get a 2 days pass for ¥5,000. Depart from Aomori station and takes about 2.5 hrs to get to the stream.

This place is a MUST GO! It’s amazingly beautiful especially during the fall, but anytime is great honestly. Try the rental bikes by the tourist rest spot or hike around the lake if you have some decent stamina. If you do go during the fall dress VERY warm, it gets very cold because it’s close to water.

Go on a rainy day or after it rains, makes it a lot more fun. Cool stores and restaurants at the top and bottom of the drive.

A TREASURE HUB OF BEAUTIFUL WATERFALLS! One of the best and iconic attraction of AOMORI PERFECTURE. Oirase Gorge is a well-known picturesque locale, whether it is in the spring with fresh green leaves, the fall with the gorgeous fall leaves, or the cool summer. It's just captivating with a beautiful melody of falling water and rushing stream all the time! The gorge stretches from Nenokuchi on Lake Towada to Yakiyama a total distance of 14 km (8.6 miles). Expansive woods blended with numerous waterfalls and the graceful water current give life to the magnificent mountain stream. Hiking in spring (lush green leaves) and the season of autumn foliage (brilliant shades of red, yellow and orange from late October through early November) is simply exceptional. An easy-to-walk hiking trail leads along the most scenic, upper passage of the stream between Nenokuchi and Ishigedo, with many bridges, waterfalls and bus stops along the way. The trail takes about 4 hours to walk one way. Many cars and tour buses travel through here, and there is a good view of much of the stream from the road. Free parking is available in Yasumiya and Yakeyama. I visited this in August 2020, and would like to visit again and again! I love this amazing place! RENT A CAR AND VISIT SEVERAL PLACES IN A DAY (My suggestion!) Highly recommended Cheers Happy

It is a great place. The river is mostly gentle and peaceful. The fall color is mostly yellow and brown, I can’t see red. I used to see red in the pictures of 奥入瀬エリア. Don’t know where and when to see some red here. Maybe someone can explain to me. In general, this is a beautiful river, giving me a sense of calm and serenity. A great place to take photos and videos.

There's a couple of very scenic points along the walking trail, but this is all ruined by the fact that you have to walk along a rather busy road most of the time. Probably due to the poor public transport in this area. If you're after taking some nice pictures, this may be a place for you, but don't expect a pleasant walk.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. Lush green gorge in the summer with scenic waterfalls and a stream running throughout. Winter is just as awesome. Tranquil walking path makes for easy access. Don’t miss it! 👍

The gorge itself was great, and luckily when I went the autumn colours was in full swing. I visited by taking the bus from Yasumiya JR Bus Towadako and stopped at Ishigedo as suggested by the staff in the hotel. He mentioned that it was prettier to walk up towards the lake than from the lake. During my visit they were encouraging people to take the bus instead of taking their own cars to the gorge to limit congestion. Once I visited I understood why. Despite being a weekday there were lots of cars and some of the drivers would just stop their cars wherever they please to take pictures, making it dangerous for other drivers to pass. If you are visiting, please take the bus or park responsibly.

This is a fantastic wooded area. I did the 15 km walk. Took my time, brought a lunch, and enjoyed the whole thing. It's a pretty easy and flat walk. The forest is gorgeous. You can also rent a bicycle and use the road if you're not keen on walking. A really nice experience.

Mesmerising trail with waterfall, lovely plants, beautiful river and fresh air. Worth spending an hour here. Don’t forget to keep yourself warm as it’s quite cold and humid when you walk along the river.

One (if not the most)of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I went here multiple times as a kid (in the 90s) and I still have vivid memories of how beautiful it was. Being a kid I wasn’t very interested in scenery, so the fact that I can still remember how beautiful it was goes to show this place is a MUST! Beautiful memories to last a lifetime!

It happened to be the time when the snow melted, so it wasn’t the most beautiful time. I hope to come again in autumn.

This was beautiful. The road along the river has several places with parking for a few cars. If you're lucky, someone is leaving when you arrive. I walked about 90 min round trip. My dogs loved walking there and splashing a little bit in the water. It may be hot if you go in the summer, but I think the water would be refreshing. It was nice with the autumn leaves.

Absolutely breathtaking in the Autumn. It's difficult to access, but if you can get accommodation in the area it makes it more manageable and is well worth the effort to see the Autumn colours. If you have large luggage, the JR Bus Stop Nenokuchi will hold these for you for a fee.

Oirase is impressive during the day, but the illuminated view at night is even more magical.

We enjoyed the scroll although there are limit parking areas.. if there isn’t any time constraints, walk through the journey. Otherwise, pick yours.. don’t skip this spot.

Walking alongside this river that leads to Lake Towada is truly a beautiful and valuable experience. It offers a serene and saline experience. If you ever find yourself in Aomori, I highly recommend embarking on this hiking adventure.

Great walk accompanied with absolutely gorgeous nature (the colours are amaaaazing). The air here is incredible. Very therapeutic. How I wish I could live here.

If you check the JR Bus schedule closely, this is a wonderful day trip from Aomori City. You can take the bus to either side, walk to the opposite side, then take the bus back to the city. The walk itself is fairly flat, and more of an exercise walk than rugged mountain hiking.

Good place for photography lovers. Nice track with magnificent gorge and waterfall. traffic is a little bit trouble, but travelling in between the area is not too frequent. Driving and hiking is recommended.
