Went for Sunday lunch yesterday on the basis of all the four and five star reviews. What a mistake that was . Both the beef and turkey weren’t “ roast dinners “ at all . They were both slices of meat like you buy for sandwiches and warmed up using warm gravy . Think I could sue them under the trades description act . The roast potatoes were rock hard and the vegetables were mainly made up of half a plate of frozen peas . I think they could do with a chef in the kitchen and not someone who just opens packets and warms things up . The Guinness was nice .

A fantastic place to stay in the Peak District. We stayed two nights at the Pack Horse Inn. The room was very nice and newly renovated, clean and quiet. The service was top notch. The staff were friendly and service minded. The food was very good. Traditional English dishes and large potions. Highly recommended!

4 of us went for a meal on a Friday evening, we booked in advance but it wasn't that busy and we would of been able to get a table even if we hadn't. Some of us had starters and mains some had mains and desserts, I was really naughty and had all 3 🤣. The Packhorse is one of those places you wish was closer to home it's a lovely pub with very friendly staff and all of the meals were excellent, we would 100% return if we are ever in the area again. If you are reading this review to decide whether or not to eat here then believe me do not hesitate get yourself along there you will not be disappointed.

My husband and I stayed in room 1 which is so quaint, furniture is beautiful and in keeping with the Pub, the room was extremely clean and fresh smelling. Had such a relaxing time here. The breakfast was delicious and have a varied and large menu.. would highly recommend The Pack Horse Inn.

Beautiful location with a warm welcome, we ate there and was simple pub food with generous portions and reasonable. It’s a very pleasant typically English pub, open fire and big bold bench’s and chairs with a separate restaurant if you don’t wish to eat in the main pub. It has rooms if your travelling a big car park booking recommended.

Pure Perfection at the Peak District On the day we were due to arrive, I was called by Lucy who so considerately wanted to ask if we would like a table to eat! this scored brownie points from the start. so very thoughtful. The property location was beautiful and easy to find, the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and valuable. We were shown to our room and told everything needed. the room was extremely clean and well presented with everything needed. The Decor was lovely, and the view from room 6 was beautiful. We can not fault that. The staff went above and beyond the whole time we were there. Even going out of their way to make sure we had meals when we arrived late on the Sat eve (due to walking 8 hours straight over the peaks) the kitchen had closed but they still whipped us both up the most delicious meal. we were so incredibly grateful for this. The breakfast choice was extensive from a fried breakfast to waffles and cereals. It was well cooked and very tasty. the evening meals were worth every penny! The value for the hearty plate of food was exceptional!! The whole atmosphere, staff, location, in fact our whole time and stay was 100/10 I would recommend this venue wholeheartedly to anyone, and certainly will be coming back again. Thank you to everyone there!

We went here for a meal, and although they were full with reservations, they managed to squeeze us in. The staff are very friendly and the service was fantastic. The food was lovely, and they also had a nice selection of beers/ales The location is absolutely stunning, with a large beer garden. I'll be visiting here again, for sure

Our favourite pub for a meal out in the countryside. Fine views across the valley with seating outdoors. Great friendly service serving you meals made from the freshest ingredients, you can tell straight away with your first bite. Friendly attentive staff. Worth booking if you want to secure a table.

My favourite place to eat when I come back to the UK each year! The best Cheese and Onion Pie and the best steak and ale pie in town! Prices are a little high But the food is outstanding

Beautiful family run Country Pub / B&B. Lots of breakfast options, with generous portions and lovely staff. Full of locals too, which is always a good sign. Loved our stay here!

I went to a wake here January 23 and the team were spot on. We were early and they opened to accommodate us. The food was very nice and service great. I had been here previously for drinks and food and really enjoyed it on that occasion as well. It's a traditional country pub with the typical pub food and nice ales to match. Nice big carpark and also a good stop off if you are walking the area.

Lovely little country pub, restaurant and B & B. Plenty of parking. A good space inside can each next to an open fire, in the dining room or when the weather is nice outside. Menu has great choices, starters, mains, kids, sides, sandwiches and desserts. Also includes gluten free and vegan. We have 4 meals between us chilli, homemade cheese and onion pie, salmon and burger, we all cleared our plates. Left room for dessert orange chocolate tart and waffle, both delicious. Services great and friendly too. Would highly recommend.

Great support from this pub/hotel when our hire car broke down and couldn’t be recovered. They drove out to pick us up late at night then took me back to meet recovery guys next morning. Rooms have those little extras that the big chains have abandoned, like a real coffee maker, and breakfast was spot on. No hesitation to recommend this friendly and professional place.

Called in for lunch on 8th January been many times but food always very high quality home cooked. Very welcoming, fires were lit we were very snug. Horseshoe gammon eggs and chips peas and sea bass fillets over small roast potatoes and ratatouille (and more veg on the side!). All arrived quickly, cooked fresh and was magnificent. Sea bass one of the best in recent memory. No room for dessert, not even sharing! Even better news when we got the bill- 20% discount in Jan/Feb. What's not to like. We were next to a 4 table who hadn't been before- we assured them they wouldn't be disappointed and, judging by the sounds of appreciation as their starters arrived and we left, the pub hadn't disappointed.

Friday night meal for 6 friends, booked in advance. Staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout. We got a selection of starters from the patè, soup and prawn cocktail. All were tasty with good portions. Fine selection of main courses, all at reasonable prices. Me and the wife both went for the Lamb Henry. What a cut of meat that was! Absolutely fabulous. Huge, and so tasty. Beats any lamb shank I've ever eaten, period. The others had scampi, and a curry, and a burger, all of which were delicious and of large portions. Absolutely cracking meal, at a great price. Well worth a try folks

Been to this pub many times a few years ago. Moved near by so thought we would go in. All the charecter brass removed from around the fire. Two open fires replaced with Log burners. I know we need to keep up with the times but to me that was the charm of this place. All the charecter has been removed. Id been bidding it up to my new husband. Food also used to be great. Had many Christmas eves in the Restuarant. Very medioca this time. Sorry guys not as impressed as I used to be. Not as quaint or traditional as it was.

The homemade Steak and ale pie is superb 👌. Nice sunny day but the log fire was stoked like The Flying Scotsman train! It was warm sat next to it to say the least. Best pub for excellent value meals around.

Just excellent. A return visit. Rose could not have been more helpful when we added another night to our booking and also added a room for our adult daughter and son in law. A niece and her daughter also stayed. All rooms were excellent: clean and comfortable with good usb charging points. We had both lunch and dinner in the Pack Horse. The food and service were both excellent and the kitchen happy to accommodate variations without any fuss. A wide choice for breakfast - the eggs benedict were fantastic! Highly recommended.

Lovely pub food and I love that they do curry of the day half and half, I've had several and they're all good. My only complaint is that they don't offer the skin on fries with the curry, they do thick floury chips I'm not a fan of and the menu just says chips so easy to forget when ordering. Luckily my OH will swap!

8 of us (4 couples) stayed for two nights and had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was excellent quality, nicely cooked, plentiful and reasonably priced. The service was great too, even though the restaurant and bar were both busy with early Christmas celebrations. Nothing was too much trouble and all requests fulfilled with a smile. The breakfast didn't disappoint, again excellent quality food and one of the most extensive breakfast menus I've seen. The rooms were large, well furnished and very clean. We would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend to anyone considering booking a stay there. Thanks to all the staff for a great break.

Fabulous place, clean, great selection of lovely food and really nice pleasant and attentive staff, what more is not to like. I booked the Pack Horse Inn for 6 people (all of us friends from the late 1960s) my wife and myself have been here before and loved it, our friends thoroughly enjoyed it and fell in love with the place. Can’t say enough 07 September 2022. Brian.

Place was great, service great, would defiantly stay again, all staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Food was great for evening meal and breakfast too, scrambled eggs were the best..... @breakfast very good covid prevention standard. The only issue was the fan in the en-suite was broken and milk in a flask left in the room for tea did not smell great... If you stay in the front rooms, passing traffic can be heard but its not too much of an issue.... a couple of pints helps... Beer and spirit selection is also a good feature of the Inn Room facilities were excellent, toiletries, water, tea, coffee, fan with remote, TV. Windows that open for ventilation... Good parking.

Looked a lovely pub on paper so we decided to try them whilst passing through. They managed to accomodate us for Sunday lunch but advised us they would need the table back by x time as it was booked, that was fine by us. We received our food and that was that, end of service. Nobody came to check if everything was okay and when our plates were taken we were not asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. We waited and waited but nobody came despite there being plenty of staff who were just hanging about by the bar. In the end we went to the bar, paid and left. Cant help thinking our faces didnt fit as we heard plenty of other people being asked if they wanted dessert etc. If you hadnt wanted us then all you had to say is that you were fully booked rather than accept us and then fail to offer much service beyond the main meal. Food was okay, nothing spectacular but not bad either.
