Just had a fantastic Easter weekend stay with my girlfriend for her 40th birthday. The room was amazing and the food hall and eating was excellent. The collection of craft ales and wines are also very good. The staff are friendly and helpful!! We shall definitely return in the near future.

Been visiting this pub for many years as it has changed and improved over the years and it always delivers. Dan has done a great job making sure that the pub offers all that a drinker and diner could want. Always visit when up in the area and always enjoy our time there. The beer festivals are a great day too.

We have stayed at the Old Hall Inn every Christmas for the last few years, as we have family living nearby. We come back for the warm welcome, the friendly staff- who make you feel like nothing is too much trouble- and great food by a roaring fire. This year, our car broke down as we were about to leave and Dan found us a last minute room and table for dinner (even though there wasn’t really one available). We are so grateful for such amazing hospitality which goes above and beyond. Thank you to everyone at the Old Hall Inn for another lovely stay!

Call me old fashioned but I like my roast dinner on a plate if I’m sitting at a pub, not in a tiny card box. We were told it wasn’t sustainable for the pub to use as the dish washer wouldn’t have time to clean all the plates. But they do recycle the boxes, which would arguably lead to more man hours in labour as they would obviously need cleaning too. So personally, I’m not buying that argument, when every other pub I’ve been to in Derbyshire seems to manage it. The food was lovely though.

Very nice pub inside and out, plenty of seating outside with cover for the rainy days and nights eith the addition of outdoor heaters. Inside the charm continues with separate dining rooms bringing there own charm and character to the room. Large selection of beers, lagers and ciders plus selection of low or zero alcohol drinks. Menu has a nice selection of meats, fish and vegetarian meals. Attentive staff and plenty of them, who are always keeping an eye on your table. Could be a bit more choice with the deserts. Prices reasonable. Will return.

What an amazing place! The food was beautiful and the deserts wow! Great prices too, but for me the staff were amazing they were super polite, very attentive and definitely go the extra mile and that is worth more than anything. We will be back! I can't recommend this place , the staff and the food enough. You need to try it

Very pleasant overnight stay in this very old building. The rooms are nice but bring your own bathroom stuff. Just some liquid soap provided for 4 poster bedroom with terrace ! Same applies to dinner; the chefs are very good but someone is very mean with the cheese board. The building is the thing and the staff are lovely.

We couldn't recommend The Old Hall Inn enough for your stay in Peak District. Great location to explore and has some good walks from the pub too. The team at the old hall inn, make this a special place. Everyone of the team were, friendly, polite and happy and provided excellent customer service. The food was very good and we ate there for the 3 nights. We would definitely return.

Worst hotel ive ever had the displeasure of staying in!!! My new husband and myself stayed here the night of our wedding on the 4th of August 2023. I had our booking in for months before to stay in room 5 I'd checked online and it was a lovely room but I asked to be considered for an upgrade because of the beautiful 4 poster bed rooms. I didn't get a call over an upgrade and that was fine as our room booked looked lovely over looking the garden,so no problem. I did call the hotel a day or so before as we were getting married in New mills then onto reception in marple bridge till 2.00 am so would be very late checking in. I was assured that that was OK as staff will be there at any time to check us in...however this was not the case .. when we arrived at 11.45pm we were very lucky to even get in and that was only for a kind guest having a stroll with his wife seeing us and grabbing the receptionist before he left.the same guest helped us with our bags very kindly. Then we were taken to room 2 a TWIN ROOM!!! On our wedding night!!! We protested but it fell on def ears the receptionist was not interested at all he said see the owner in the morning. I couldn't believe it! So that was that! Next morning checking out we asked the receptionist a young lady how this could have happened? She replied "im very sorry I have no idea what has happened and why you have ended up in this room as it's here in the system you booked this in ages ago for room 5" she was extremely apologetic to us and rang the owner to come and chat to us.we waited for 30 minutes for him to be bothered to even come to where we were at reception and he looked at us and carried on what he was doing for a further 10 minutes. Myself and husband were absolutely gobsmacked! Finally he came over and i have to say what a rude, cruel, insensitive person he was. He talked down to us and said that basically i had made the whole thing up, room 2 was always booked which definitely was not the case the he didn't offer any apologies he slapped a reserved sign on our table and told us we need to vacate the area ASAP. I said to my husband we will let him see what he has done in his own reviews straight away he brought a pub snack over and jibed u look very hungover I thought u could use a snack..... wow how rude!!!! I had a taxi on its way at this point thank goodness as we did not want to be in his presence any longer and that was our amazing wedding night and morning. I'm still in disbelief that a hotel manager/owner could not take the complaint in hand and was so rude to us I understand they had weddings on that weekend but the behaviour of this man was disgraceful and ruined our experience of first night_morning as man and wife we had travelled from marple and I really wish we hadn't. I give a half of a star and that's for the receptionist who did apologise and had enough knowledge for a young girl that is not how you treat a customer!!! When you aledged those hateful lies In response to my review ihope your future customers know that's what he could potentially say about them and there was no hospitality to begin with i wouldnt dream of going back!

Me and the Mrs went on steak night and were blown away by the quality of the food and service. Initially got a chipped wine glass but when sorted the wine was beautiful and the steak out of this world. The chef was kind enough to give us the ingredients to the anchovy butter sauce that we can't wait to replicate. Not to be missed !

Just home from a really excellent stay at Whitehough. All the staff were a perfect combination of helpful, friendly, competent and efficient. Room 6 is a dream, the evening meal very good and breakfast superb. The Hall itself is fascinating, the atmosphere good and the bar a cozy treat with an excellent range of beverages. Visited as an ancestor of mine once lived here. Will most definitely be back and recommend to friends and family. Very many thanks. A real treat. Wishing you all, all the best.

One of the best vacations my partner and I've had, much in part due to staying at the Old Hall Inn. Amazing people, food and location. Each, on its own, making for a very good experience. All three put together? Well, makes me want to stay nowhere else everytime I visit the Peak District. It is a recommendation I can make with complete confidence.

Wow, what a lovely place! Beer and food are absolutely wonderful and the staff are so pleasant. Disabled access to the main area of the pub is good despite the age of the building, with smooth floors, no steps between the front door and the bar/eating area and doorways easily wide enough for a wheely walker or wheelchair. Not sure whether there is a separate disabled loo, though.

This is a gem of a place. Food and service was first class. Every meal we had were second to none and the lamb pudding is to die for. Waitress when asked gave us so much information on the building. She went above and beyond. I would recommend anyone to try this place when in the area.

Probably the best hotel we have stayed in. The room was stunning, characterful, spacious and clean. Service was perfect with friendly, efficient and smiling staff. Food was excellent and they had a great selection of beers. Everyone who works there was so helpful and accommodating. We don't usually go back to the same hotel twice, but we will definitely be going back to Old Hall Inn again.

We had dinner at the Old Hall Inn, which is in lovely surroundings and is very nicely done up. The wine was good, and they had a good range at reasonable prices. The mains were a bit disappointing for the price - the vegetarian tart was very small. The lamb pudding was quite tasty but not exceptional, with very good chips on the side. Delicious guiness pudding with clotted cream!

Fantastic staff, wonderful food and very nice rooms. The Room was excellent, cozy, clean and spacious for 2. Although the Old Hall resturant was closed on wednesday, the papermill was an excellent alternative which provided amazing pizza's and we even got to meet a chef at the Old Hall while we had our evening meal.

Just stayed for the first time in this wonderful historic inn. The food was top quality and a wide array of real ale to wash it down whilst enjoying a cosy, warm, inviting ambiance. The wood burners and open fireplaces added to the whole relaxing feel to the place. The staff were really helpful and engaging. When my wife pointed out a slight problem in the ladies toilet it was sorted straight away. Our room was lovely with a bath to die for. Set alongside the Peak Forest trail it is well worth a visit. I was also impressed to hearing how well the owner looks after his team which was lovely to hear. Top marks.

Sunday lunch for two. Roast pork belly and nut roast. Superb. Friendly and efficient service, lovely premises, delicious food. We drove an hour to get there and it was well worth it.

Excellent country pub. Called in after a bike ride and sampled a few pints of Leffe. Cracking pint. Bit steep in price at £7.20 but I guess pubs have to charge more than ever now due to rising costs so I understand this. Would definitely return.

Couldn’t reccomended this place anymore. All the staff were really friendly and kind, doing little touches like putting the log burner on ready for us to return from our dog walk, and lending us a garmin GPS which was amazing. We stayed in the studio as had our dog with us, and it was lovely, really clean and modern lighting with everything you could need! Breakfast in the old barn and then food in the cheese milk in the eve was delicious, with lovely selection of beers. We will definitely be coming back!

I had a fantastic Sunday dinner here, excellent menu including starters. Good selection of beer and wine, and a very welcoming and homely environment. I hope to visit again soon if only to grab some pictures of the wonderful food! Easy to get the train from Sheffield too so you can have a couple of beers without worrying about the car!

Had a delicious Sunday roast. Great variety of vegetables. Very pleased to see roast leg of lamb as a choice and it was everything we hoped for. I really wanted to try hogget which was on the on line sample menu. Good service from efficient and pleasant team of servers. Looking forward to next visit to sample the pork.

Visited today for Sunday lunch fir my Husbands 60th Birthday. We were visiting from Warwickshire for 2 nights and I chose this place as the reviews were good. Very disappointed 😥 Only option for non meat eaters was Nut Roast, no fish options. My Husband had the Roast Beef which was cooked nicely, medium rare. Although our food tasted alright, it was stone cold, both our meals, we had finished what we were prepared to eat when the waitress returned, we told her the food was cold..although she did apologise, nothing was offered to rectify the problem..we ordered dessert which was ok and then asked for the bill..All the staff were friendly, but we left very disappointed on a day which was supposed to be a special occasion.. Hi Dan, I can assure you we were not offered anything other than "sorry to hear that"! As the mother of 2 Chefs I would always give someone the opportunity to put something right, if a customer was unhappy. I totally appreciate how important reviews and feedback are to your business. We were so looking forward to our celebration meal out and I would not have allowed the disappointment with our meal to spoil my Husbands Birthday.. Your staff were all friendly and polite, but I suggest IF you are going to ask a customer if everything is alright and a customer politely says the food was cold, that they are able to offer a satisfactory solution to the issue. Instead we got "Sorry" bought desserts and paid in full for our food..The quality and presentation was lovely, it was merely the fact it was cold and that spoilt our dining experience..

Impressively the only pub we could find that would bravely accept our 36 person booking. Toby and Anna were extremely accommodating and expertly facilitated half our group being late (we understand head chef Siobhan played a big part in making this work also). All the roasts were DELICIOUS and hot. A massive thank you to the whole crew here for looking after us so warmly and professionally!

What an amazing beautiful place to stay! The pub and the restaurant are incredible. The staff is great, helpful and friendly. I was here for a very -too- short business trip and I hope next time I will have more time to fully enjoy everything it has to offer.

This is a lovely pub with nice outdoor seating with cover. We would have loved to have eaten Sunday lunch as it looked very nice but booking in advance is advised as people had reserved in advance and we were unable to dine here. Lovely pub in a pretty location.

What can I say, this is a top hotel, staff are wonderful, The hotel and food are top notch. The sister pub The Papermill is on the same level. You won't be disappointed. Spent New Years Eve 2023 there.

  • 3/5 Mark C. 2 years ago on Google
Very pleasant surroundings and nice staff with excellent beers. But our meals were of mixed quality and 2 of our party had the smallest portions in their main lamb dish and all for pretty high prices, which have also risen dramatically since 2020. We wouldn't rush back to eat there again.

We stayed for 3 nights in the Spring Cottage- very quaint and comfortable. We were close by to Old Hall Inn and Paper Mill Inn which were both fantastic pubs with great atmosphere, food and beer. The staff were welcoming and friendly- a credit to your business! They also provided us with a pre set GPS with local walks which made it so easy for two newbie hikers/walkers! A very enjoyable stay- thank you!

  • 5/5 Paulo R. 2 years ago on Google
Good size beer garden with a few tables in each side of the pub. All the tables are well spaced apart, and even with all the tables full we still felt that we had enough privacy. There is a small grass area that the kids could run around but no swings or anything of the sort. The food was good, but slightly confusing, when we ordered we didn't quite understood that we were asking for food from 2 different places, so in the end we ended up with a pizza that arrived in 10 minutes and the rest of the food after 30 minutes. Not ideal but still a good experience.

We have just had a lovely 2 nights stay at The Paper Mill Inn. It’s in a gorgeous location, we had breakfast and dinner here each day and the food was fantastic. The staff couldn’t do enough to help and are all so friendly. We will definitely be recommending to anyone we know visiting the Peak District!

Absolutely brilliant stay, couldn’t ask for more friendly staff - room was good, had dinner with friends, can definitely recommend the pie 😋 and lovely English breakfast. They can also provide you with a variety of walks and these are downloaded onto a portable GPS that you can borrow making it really easy to follow the route - We are already booking again with friends for 2022.

Have visited this pub for many years. Never had cause to complain. A place where I can come for a beer or bring the family to eat. Perfect surroundings. Landlord very welcoming, polite and manages a nice staff team perfectly. Prices aren’t cheap but quality of food and beer outstanding. I never fail to find a beer suited to my taste and always kept in tip top condition. Looking forward to the next beer festival. Always enjoy the walk over from Glossop.

The accommodation was really spacious. We rented one of the cottages and it was delightful. The restaurant was lovely. It's a really great environment and the whole team gave excellent customer service! I thought the menu was a bit pricey at first, but when the food came, it really was fantastic and worth every penny. The restaurant staff really impressed us, from the bar to the kitchen. Highly recommend

My wife booked a two night stay at Old Hall Inn for me as a birthday gift. I was not disappointed. Room 3 was beautiful and clean, with a lovely view and a roll top bath. We ate both evenings at Old Hall Inn and the food was delicious. Breakfast which was included in the room booking was something else, just amazing. There was something for all tastes and lots of it. I have left the best till last, the staff and the excellent service they provided. They were professional and cheerful, even at 7:30 in the morning. They all took the time to smile, say hello and seemed to work really well as a team and that showed, adding to the relaxing atmosphere of the place even though it was always busy. Would definitely recommend and would book again.

Amazing country pub/restaurant/hotel! We stayed for 2 nights and both Dan (the landlord) and the staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We had dinner both nights in the restaurant which was lovely, which combined with an extensive and high quality breakfast offering, makes this place a really special place to stay. My recommendation is Room 4 which is big, with a large balcony and a four poster bed. Would have no hesitation in recommending and we will be visiting again.

I visited Chinley for the first time four years ago and one of the highlights of the trip was heading down to The Old Hall Inn for a drink after a long day of roaming the idyllic countryside. I had decided then that I needed to return and that when I did, I wanted to stay at the Inn. This trip I rented the Spring Cottage, a perfectly situated, cozy place with bright bedrooms and morning views that I looked forward to every day. It’s the perfect size for a couple or small family. Within walking distance are the train station and several small shops that provide everything you need to get through a short visit (less than a week visit). This is all especially convenient if you did not come with a car. And of course, The Old Hall and Paper Mill Inn are a stone’s throw from the door and available for fantastic meals and drinks. Dan and his staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and make the entire experience comfortable and relaxing. I would highly recommend people to consider Chinley and The Old Hall Inn when booking accommodations for a Peak District getaway.

Sunday Lunch 3 of us visited today for Sunday Lunch, and it was fantastic. The roast beef was just a tad over medium, mash, roasts, purée parsnips, kale, roast carrot, red cabbage and a huge Yorkshire pudding. Nice selection of homemade desserts too. Huge selection behind the bar too

Sunday roast was very good. Great local lamb and a lovely selection of vegetables. All cooked with great care. Granddaughter's roast beef looked excellent too. Initially I was overrated by the size of the meal but I left very little, though I couldn't manage a desert!

Lovely pub with a lovely feel to it. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Dogs welcome. Outside seating area provided under canopies with outside heating, blankets, and hot water bottles. Sunday lunch is amazing. Well worth a visit if you're in the area

This is a review for the pub! Wow! If I could give 10 stars I would! Lovely service, the staff was super nice and clearly knew how to do their job. The location was great big pub with outside space. The food was just gorgeous. We got the Sunday roast and everything was well cooked and flavourful. Big portions. Excellent Yorkshire puddings. Just wow. Definitely recommend a visit. Well done to all the team. I'd definitely go back if I'm in the area again.

Such a beautiful place! The food was lovely and the staff were cracking. Minus one star as the table we were placed at was so sticky that the serviettes ripped as you picked them up. Bit grim. Edit post reply. It was absolutely not dirt making it sticky. Sorry if that was implied. Honestly this pub is beautiful. Reasonably priced for the quality of the food.

Stayed locally and came for dinner. Four of us with two dogs, we were shown to a table by friendly staff, got our drinks and ordered. Two had Lamb pudding, one sea trout and I had fish and chips. We had a great evening, the food was fantastic, drinks lovely and waiting staff friendly, efficient and attentive. I have to add that my meal was GF and the batter on the fish was awesome. Guy behind the bar needs to get over himself but maybe an off night. Hopefully we will get to go again.

We are lucky enough to be locals and had another delicious meal, perhaps the best yet, from their current menu. The local lamb tenderloin and Special venison steamed pudding were both perfection on a plate. Thank you Dan & Team

Very cosy place, super friendly staff, we stayed in the studio flat and it was lovely. The pub is nice for dinner and the breakfast had a wide selection for continental and some options for cooked breakfast (depending on the room you book I guess). For hiking, this place is great too. There are a number of routes starting from Chinley and the staff can help set you up with suggestions and give you a map and GPS (which was honestly such a life saver)! My only suggestion for the future is to maybe provide some slippers for the studio as the floor was freezing (luckily we had thick hiking socks on).

My partner and I had Sunday lunch at the Old Hall. We were very impressed by the building and location. We ordered a beef and lamb dinner, we were very happy with everything on the plate except for what should be the main attraction, the meat! We both felt that it was very chewy. My beef looked lovely cooked medium rare, however it was chewy. It's a shame as I would have given 5 stars if the meat was more tender. Sorry, guys! Service very good tho!

10/10 on all aspects. The rooms are lovely, cosy and impeccably clean. The food was marvellous - their beer battered haddock and Guinness pudding were definite highlights. And their service was top notch - they go above and beyond to make sure you have a wonderful holiday. The location is also perfect - we were able to access many lovely trails right from the property. Overall, very glad to have found this place! We will be returning to stay here on our next visit to the peak district.
