There is a car park found off of the main road. It's a national trust car park. If you're not a member you will have to pay either by phone or use the app. It cost me £4.50 for 2 hours. All around below there are smaller roads and people park along here, and this is the reason why. However, the car park is quite high up, but you pay for the privilege!!! No toilets here. A food van at certain times only by the entrance. A fairly easy walk with cobbled stones.. Brilliant 360 view from the top. You can walk along the ridge and walk further if required. It gets busy at the weekends. If my chihuahua can walk up here, anyone can !! Recommended dogs on leads, although not a rule.

Mam Tor is one of this places, like Stonehenge, that captures the imagination. It's great to wonder around using your bike, contrary to other heritage places. This is great since Mam Tor is huge and connected to the other hills that also a must.

It's a beautiful area . The views are stunning. I've visited a few times now and have walked alot of different routes,up Mam Tor and around it. Traffic wardens are ruthless round here. I really recommend not parking the other side of double yellows because they ticket you regardless of being the other side of them. Its also really busy with visitors so get here early to get parked.

Saturday morning in May- fairly populated. Although no queuing walking up, people with dogs, children & princes trust students. Great walk! Stunning views. Around 15k steps depending where you start, we parked at Castleton car park (has toilets, cafe etc).

Absolutely love this place, it can be a tough walk or a short simple walk depending on your physical capability but what a fabulous place to enjoy a beautiful sunrise. It never fails to make me go all warm and dizzy with the sunrise view up here - never been for a sunset though the other way! Large car park but if you go for a sunrise you better be the early work as it gets packed!! Please only park in the designated parking areas and keep our countryside beautiful and safe :-) it’s pretty cheap to park here though. There is on road parking, again stick to the designated spots and keep us all safe and able to enjoy the free stuff that’s good for us. Sunrises do get busy these days, be sure to bring fluids (defo a warm one autumn winter as it gets windy and a bit brutal (it is exposed to the weather) sit and wait to go ahhh at the beautiful view. But don’t miss the landscape around for the changing scenery as the sun comes up. Spectacular

A beautiful landscape that goes on for miles. Great for ramblers and dog walkers and an excellent choice for an intimate elopement. I loved shooting this perfect union. No guests just the two of them, pure love.

The perfect sunrise spot! We climbed twice over Easter weekend to see sunrise. Don’t bother with other car park recommendations, just put Mam Tor into google maps and park in the lay-bys nearby, there will be more spots the further away you park. I don’t know how busy it gets during the day but first thing in the morning (for sunrise) was fine. The climb to the top only took around 20 mins from the car. It gets quite steep but nothing too hard. It’s stunning at the top, with plenty of room for loads of people to watch sunrise. We took a picnic blanket and coffee in a flask.

One spectacular view from the top of Mam Tor, we walked from Castleton and Cave Dale along part of the Limestone way, then sling the great ridge towards Back Tor. Amazing place abd the first visit of many

There are superb views from the top of Mam Tor and well worth the short walk from the closest car park. The climb is relatively easy but not suitable for push chairs or wheelchairs as broken stone and steps. From the summit you can see the valley with castleton, hope, the cement, winnats pass all visible. It's well worth catching a sunrise. Arrive around 1hr before official sunrise to catch the first light coming over the horizon and enjoy the beautiful colours. If you are lucky you can catch an amazing cloud inversion there too.

Great place to watch sunrise! Only 10/15 minutes up from National Trust Car Park! We then hiked over the great ridge to Lose Hill, down to Castleton, over to Cave Dale and then back up! Stunning circular!

Great scenery, highly rewarding hike. Best to get there early as the small car park gets full very early. There's limited free parking on nearby roads

Love this place, the walk and views are stunning, it can get quite busy at times but we'll worth the trip out.

Amazing hike! Great trails and options for safe, paved paths or more traily trails🤘🏽.

Very lovely view! It's a quick walk to the top, only took me 10 minutes from the car park to the peak. I would say this is a bit hard for beginners since the path is very steep but just take your time and you'll reach the top eventually. Tips: There's a lot of lay-bys to park, maybe 5 minutes walk to the car park but don't park on double yellow's as there was always an officer checking there and an issue ticket. I think it's much better to go early so you'll get parking spaces because a lot of people go to this place.

Loved this short walk. We set off just down the road from the car park and up the designated path. A few stops for breath on the way up (It's all up hill !!) but git to the top in about one hour (We are not hardened hill walkers) Views from the top are stunningly beautiful, gets rather windy and temperature drops a good 10 degrees 15 minutes from the summit, but we'll worth the walk and only took half hour to walk down.

Beautiful scenery and trek. Stunning vistas. Trek is moderate, not too difficult at all. Parking is available and is free. Thoroughly enjoyed.

With summer gracing us one last time back in September, I decided I needed to inject a bit of adventure back into my life (boring city boy here hasn’t been out and about in years!) so I got on a train bound for Edale and set off walking, knowing approximately where Mam Tor was as I knew some of the area from my time living in Manchester. I took in what began as a country lane, which led through a stile onto a deserted gravel path. As I ascended, the gravel gave way to a dirt track through fields with a punishing gradient to climb, but the views reward you with every metre you climb and unfold much like the visual equivalent to a symphony orchestra. Having eventually reached the top, you rather sharply reach civilisation once more and meet those that have hiked from Castleton, Hope via the Great Ridge, and ambled up from the car park, but this if anything adds to the social aspect of an amazing day out - and the views across the Edale Valley and over to Hope are sublime and well worth the effort. A truly fantastic day out, shame the weather hasn’t been as good since!

Not the tallest peak, but still a lot of fun with beautiful views. The walk to the top wasn't too intense, suitable for most, and wasn't as crowded as we expected, with almost no one else there. Very close to many of the caves and caverns so pairs well after being down a cold cave for an hour.

Stunning views tover the hope valley and Winnars pass. It can not takes around 15 minutes to walk to the top fro the car park or Blue John caverns. There is a lovely walk along the whole ridge, and you can descend in quite a few places, including Castleton.

Absolutely stunning views. We visited as part of a 6 mile circular walk from Castleton. Second time I've done this walk and I was as much in awe this time as the first.

Stunning views from the top of Mam Tor. There's several paths to the trig point, we did walk 4 from the book, walks around Castleton. You can buy it from the visitors centre £2.80, see picture below.

Great walks all around Mam Tor to all abilities and tastes, there is a circular walk starting and ending at Mam Tor, that goes trough Castleton, it is about 10 miles, but it is worth it, great views, and the town is great with little shops selling awesome local produce.

Steady walk from Hollins Cross. Busy on top but not crazily so. Excellent views of surrounding area.

Lovely walk up Mam Tor directly from the campsite we, were staying on. Amazing views from the bottom looking up and on the way up in every direction. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to the top but I plan to go back and try again one day soon. It is a steep climb and the path is uneven in places. I slipped on some loose rubble on the way back down and fell backwards but it hasn't put me off trying to get to the top. Highly recommend if you like a walk that is challenging and you love amazing scenery.

Lovely bright autumn day. Very busy on top of the ridge.

Nice walk/hike to go on. There is a car park near by but this is a popular destination so you'll probably end up parking on the road. Just adds to the walk. The views are absolutely stunning. The path is well looked after, there are also stairs. So it's not a difficult climb. Its windy at the top, get a pic near the trig point. You can either go down to the Blue John Mines from here, or across the Great Ridge like I did. Highly recommended.
