After
searching
around
for
a
local
jeweler
who
could
provide
me
with
a
valuation
of
some
jewelry
I
ventured
out
to
Allura.
The
day
before
my
visit
I
called
and
spoke
with
Erv
to
ensure
I
understood
the
pricing
for
this
process,
after
a
pleasant
conversation
with
him
I
was
informed
that
it
would
cost
$120
/
hour
to
have
my
items
appraised.
After
further
research
I
determined
that
a
typical
jeweler
could
provide
a
valuation
of
an
item
between
5-15
minutes
per
item
depending
on
the
overall
complexity
of
each
piece.
(Ex.
A
simple
gold
bracelet
just
needs
to
be
weighted
and
should
take
no
more
than
5
minutes,
while
a
bracelet
with
a
number
of
stones
would
take
longer
since
the
stones
need
to
be
evaluated
for
their
cut,
clarity,
etc.)
Feeling
comfortable
with
the
process
I
proceeded
to
Allura
and
met
with
Erv,
after
pulling
out
my
items
he
began
speaking
about
the
overall
process
was
going
to
cost
between
$1,200
and
$1,800
depending
on
if
we
wanted
all
the
information
formally
typed
up
for
a
official
insurance
type
appraisal.
Based
on
my
previous
phone
conversation
and
Erv
explaining
that
it
would
cost
$120
/
hour
I
was
anticipating
a
long
process
($120
x
10
hours
=
$1,200).
With
all
my
pieces
laid
out
he
grab
some
scratch
paper
and
begin
taking
his
notes
(weights,
descriptions),
after
1
hour
and
15
minutes
he
had
completed
his
process
and
all
my
items
were
packed
back
up.
At
this
point
Erv
states
that
he
was
done
and
pushed
the
3
pieces
of
paper
shown
in
the
attached
photos
back
to
me
and
I
stated
that
this
cost
$1,200
and
he
said
yes.
I
didn’t
know
how
to
respond
since
he
stated
appraisals
cost
$120
/
hour
the
day
before.
I
expressed
my
dissatisfaction
and
handed
him
my
credit
card.
He
stated
he
wanted
me
to
be
happy
and
would
give
me
a
discount.
He
came
back
with
a
charge
on
my
card
of
$800.
This
wasn’t
a
discount
since
$120
x
1.25
=
$150,
no
clue
how
an
appraisal
/
valuation
that
isn’t
on
a
jewelers
letter
head
of
typed
up
should
cost
$1,200.
I
highly
recommend
that
you
proceed
with
caution
while
shopping
at
this
location.
