Terrible experience, the service staff is slow, inefficient and unresponsive. They also do not want to deal with their guests and often tell you to come back later when you make a simple request. They offer no guidance regarding their amenities and would rather do nothing and socialize with each other. There is no water pressure or hot water on the fourth floor. The rooms are left unclean and never stocked with fresh towels or toilet paper. Our room service only offered two options- burger or chicken sandwich which are both poor at best. The buffet is below average and the food is always cold and you are usually left with no seating or a dirty table. The pool is actually great but they do not have enough chairs for their guests and give you a challenging time when getting towels. As for Punta Cana in general they are expecting Americans to not understand prices and tend to charge a premium for a cab ride or dinner. As someone who is regularly in Latin American countries for work and leisure; I would recommend spending your money and time in Vegas. We usually never want to leave any destination but we couldn't wait to head home after just a few days. One positive, the beach is beautiful and the grounds are nice and clean.

After reading bad reviews we were pleasantly surprised with this resort. We had a great room with a fantastic view. The staff at the swim up bar were excellent and Julio the young guy that worked around the pool kept the people happy and was forever picking up the cups, plates and what ever else the guest left laying around ( hope he is paid well) The grounds were very well kept, your room and the rest of the resort was kept clean. Excellent beach. We had a great three weeks there.

The resort is nice and there’s lots of room to dread out on the beach. unfortunately The resort is extremely noisy and nothing is done about the noise. When you call the front desk to ask about the noise no one answers. There is banging and constructions till around 10 PM at night and people screaming in the hallways till 5:30 in the morning. The food at the Buffet is good but it’s always cold. The pizzeria is phenomenal. Staff is not very attentive, we tipped everywhere we went and the service is mediocre. One night I woke up to a flood in my bathroom so I called front desk and no one answered. I got dressed and went downstairs to have them send Someone to stop and fix the water coming from the ceiling. I was told it would be right up. Two hours later I had to go back down and tell them to get their asap before I start swimming in my bathroom. This is now midnight. If you’re looking for a noisy hotel and the lack of attentiveness this is the hotel to come to if you’re looking for peace and quiet pick a different hotel. I am currently still here and I have to say I have never seen hotel staff that is so loud. The maids Yelling to each other in the hallways. Hotel staff should be quiet in the room sections

If you are trying to enjoy your time and have your money worth, this hotel is not the best option. Been here 2 days and NO AC anywhere in the hotel or the rooms. Also there is not even a fan in the rooms. Food is minimal and repetitive. Rooms are extra extra dated, in need to maintenance from the safe to the tv. Service wise its excellent. Friendly and caring employees. The pools and kids water park is well kept. Best suggestion is to start remodeling rooms by building for a better quality of service.

Can’t wait to return!!!!! Staff was amazing!!! Great location!!! The only reason I can’t give a 5 star rating is because I could not get reservations to the restaurants they had on site and this goes from the day I arrived…. The day I got there I went and tried to make reservations for any of the 5 days I was there and was told I was unable to do so because they were all booked and no availability was available…. I was highly upset about that because that’s part of what I paid for…. But other then that the resort was absolutely beautiful….. staff changed towels in room every day and I did not have to tell them to do so!!! They were very friendly and mad you feel welcome….. David the bartender was amazing!!!!

This place is a joke. If you are hoping for a 5 star hotel, hope elsewhere. No air conditioning available in the room. Absolutely no TV in the room. The maintenance person pretended to fix it then said it's just broken. The only options for dance and music are local. The cocktails contained no alcohol and only sugar. If you are from the US, please go somewhere else, you can spend the same on a 2 star hotel anywhere in the United States and enjoy a better stay. I just asked for a room change and they took me to a downgraded room with, again, no air conditioning. The TV worked but only had antenna channels. I'm stuck here now for 6 days. I will try to get a different hotel. Will post an updated review as time goes by.

This is my second time visiting a resort and the first experience was wonderful (different resort) the service was wonderful. This time we decided to go with kids and decided to check out occidental caribe resort, well the service sucked. We got to the room and the safe was closed, which is suppose to be open so you can set your own code and put your stuff in it, we called the desk and they said they will send security to open it but never did. Our stuff was just put in the open the whole time. Since we couldn’t put our personal belongings away we put the sign on the door for them not to clean so we don’t have anyone in the room. The one time we did ask them to clean they did not refill the things we asked for and dis not take the dirty towels. The buffet did serve the same food everyday and we got tired of eating the same thing for 6 days straight. We asked them for drinks and would not get them or had to wait a long time to get the drinks. There was cups and stuff in the pool. Nowhere to sit we were walking around like lost puppies trying to find a seat. The coffee in the room had no stirrers, how are you suppose to stir coffee? No spoons on tables at buffet so once again how do you stir coffee? The experience was not at all what we expected due to visiting other resorts and service being on point. Safe to say it was our first and last time at Occidental Caribe Resort

My family and I just came back, we stay from Aug 7 to 15 2022 It was a big disappointment the view, beach and overall maintenance of the hotel are good, beautiful beach and very clean as well as the resort. Unfortunately, there were no services whatsoever, the staff doesn't seem like they care if you request or need assistance with anything. Safety boxes don't work The remote control doesn't work, no beach towels, no room towels, a minibar empty, and very very low-quality food. In the end, I stop complaining, because our vacation time will be a complete ruin, so we just get what we get and try to get the best out of it. I don't like to give bad reviews, but I think people should be aware of what you will get, especially after you pay thousands of dollars for your vacation

The staff was so amazing always smiling knew me by my name!! Food was great meat, chicken, fish delicious, pools amazing, we had a foam party on Saturday, everyday we had activities at the pool!! Entertainment at the theatre at night, Disney theme, Micheal Jackson, circus list goes on always on the go being entertained. Lobby has table service with amazing tropical drinks and live entertainment (band) before the theatre’s entertainment. Rooms were great beds were soft and clean always. House keeping made me happy everyday with towels, water. I enjoyed giving the staff tips to show appreciation but wasn’t necessary to them. We had to stay longer at the hotel because my husband got injured and I wanted to express how grateful we are for Juan Assist Manager of hotel and Dania Guest Service Manger were to us, pleasant, professional and caring staff members. I loved the size of the resort the size was big enough to not get lost and exhausted to find what you wanted. Hotel had 6 quality retail stores to purchase clothes, treats and souvenirs. I have to say that this resort has everything you want in respect of quality and exceptions. I definitely will go again!!! Thank you for making our first family trip magical!!!

Am going to be honest. The opening videos for this place where awesome! It looked like a beautiful place. We payed thousands of dollars. We expected more and holy, it was terrible! The pools where awesome, if you didn't step onto the thousands of plastic cups filled with flat alcohol. The buffet there was extremely bad (the one next to the pool) was poorly cleaned and there was water and a rotten sausage on the floor. Our room was cleaned but our rooms ac was broken! meaning me and my family had to sleep in moist air for 2 days straight! We tried to eat in the night-time buffet but the plates we grabbed where still dirty! And we had no table to sit at! We visited other nearby resorts and decided to Move to one of them. We don't recommend this place to those who like fancy resorts, go somewhere and never go here in Punta Cana.

I came on a family vacation to this resort with a group of over 15 people the week of December 18th in 2023 and nearly everyone came across some kind of issue. More than several of the rooms we booked had television issues, water leakage coming from the bathrooms, hotel room phones not working, lighting fixtures not working, and one of the rooms didn’t lock, so we had to switch rooms but only after we insisted. All of the rooms we booked for our group did not have hot water. The rooms were also overall dingy, distasteful and outdated. The bathtubs in the bathrooms didn’t drain properly. And they propped up a broken chair against the wall, in our room which is unsafe to say the least. The safe in several rooms also didn’t work. Check in was at 3:00PM but we didn’t get our room cards until 4:30PM. We did report all of our room inconveniences and nothing was ever fixed. This was really disappointing. They ran out of towels at the pool by 5PM. The food was bland. We couldn’t make reservations for any of the other 6 restaurants after 3:00PM and even then, they were all booked for literally everyday we were there except for the Japanese restaurant. However, the staff was very kind and hospitable. The staff in the buffet area was not as attentive, but I imagine it is difficult to have a handle on that many guests. The location overall is beautiful, I mean it’s the Dominican Republic you can’t mess that up. The pool area was nice as well. All of the outdoor amenities were well taken care of, I just wish that it looked like that inside the rooms though. With all of the other options that exist in this area, I wouldn’t come back here and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Updates are very much needed. Many rooms are in very poor condition with water leaking from ceilings amongst many other issues. Food leaves a lot to be desired. Casino is small with inoperable slot machines. Workers jump from balcony to balcony. Close the curtains! The theater was nice. The property is right on the beach. Pools were great. After the much needed updates, I recommend an updated system for check-in, reservations, and towel tracking. No top shelf options for alcohol.

We visited in July of 2021 and had a wonderful time. We were treated so well from the check in until the check out. One of our rooms was even upgraded by the young man at the counter who was so friendly and kind. The photo is of the young man who checked us in. He was so friendly and kind to my Grand-daughter and was even willing to take this picture with her Barbies. :-). We were able to eat at 3 of the special restaurants and they were delicious. We would definitely come again. Thank you for making our vacation so special.

The service and the food were good and we had a careless vacation. The beach was fantastic, although everyone was reserving the many seats at the beach with towels - annoying, but that was more about the other guests than the hotel. It was great they had a gym as well as different restaurants (Italian, Dominican, Japanese etc). Great to have this in addition to the good buffet! They could have improved the booking system for the restaurants, because you had to wait in line at 7am on a specific day. The entertainment at the pool was too loud (from 10am to 5pm) - but I think there options for quieter rooms. Overall they had a lot of entertainment to offer: live music, concerts, party etc. Cocktails and drinks. were fine. It was definitely worth the price we paid. We stayed for a week.

This resort was very clean and beautiful. It's a smaller resort and very easy to walk to any part of the resort. The beach was very clean and beautiful. They had entertainment at the theatre almost every night that we enjoyed. I gave 4 stars because the buffet food was sufficient but not that great and the staff was friendly but they weren't very attentive. Overall, we had a pretty good experience at this resort.

Though the rooms and bathroom were a little outdated, they were clean and welcoming. Food was a plenty in the buffets and the choice of restaurant's were fantastic…. Specially the pizzeria. Most of the staff were so friendly and helpful. The beach and view are out of this world. Unfortunately if you’re not Spanish or speak Spanish the entertainment is slightly disappointing. Loved the pool party and pool areas. The sellers on the stalls can be slightly overwhelming and become a nuisance after a while. But overall had an amazing time and would 100% recommend.

Group of friends and I went for spring break this year. Booked through a travel agency and had a ton of kids from our school there. The first night one of my friends was assaulted badly by another student on the trip, had to go to the hospital and get 7 stitches in his head. Our travel agency said that the resort had all the authority in the situation, and that the student would be kicked out of the resort and monitored by a security guard until then. Did. not. happen. Kid was out at the pool, bar, and clubs every day after the resort said that he would be kept under security to protect our friend. Once my friend finally decided to call the police for a report/protection, this resort told him no. They also said they would provide the security footage of the assault and promptly changed their minds. Horrible experience for us and especially for my friend. Zero consequences from the resort for a violent assault that occurred there. It seemed they didn’t care at all that there was someone violent on their resort. Buffet food was awful, everyone had issues with their rooms. Would not recommend.

The hotel feels more like a resort and they treat you like royalty while you are staying here. Open bar at every corner with many restaurants for you to choose from. All the employees always have a smile on there face and make sure that everyone is having a good time. From the food to the service; to even the other guests here, it was a wonderful stay. I recommend anyway to this place.

Stayed for one week during May and everything was great! The beach was so beautiful and the pools as well. Our children love the kids playground and the activities and games offered by the animation team! There is always something to do whether e you’re in the pool or by the beach! We did the rock climbing almost everyday and I also went to the gym. The gym is well kept! And has a smith machine which is a PLUS! The lifeguards were very present which made me feel safe for my kids. The room can be improved but it’s okay we only go there to sleep anyways. The buffet is good on weekdays, weekends not the same so maybe best to reserve your restaurant during those times. Service is fast and didn’t wait too long to get served! Thank you to all the staff and keep up the good work! Looking forward to our return! ♥️🙏

In its entirety I would give it a 4/5 stars. The food was good for the fact that it was all you can eat at all times. Drinks were significantly watered down however quantity over quality was the theme of the resort. The beach was spectacular. There’s always something to do. I’d stay away from the theatre performances as they were essentially a time waste

Me and my husband really enjoyed it here. The drinks were absolutely amazing as well as the service. My favorite was the non alcoholic strawberry daiquiri, I would love to know the recipe because that was the best drink I've ever had. Would definitely love to stay here again! Please feel free to leave the recipe if you know how they make it!

Had a great time. The people and staff at the resort were friendly. A little language barrier. However, there are plenty of people there that are fluent in English. The restaurants were good, favorite was the one serving Asian cuisine. The beach was the prettiest color of turquoise you have ever seen. The rooms are comfortable, but a little dated. I would recommend and would go back.

This resort is great! The service is great and all the staff are very nice and entertaining, they are very hard working and try to make everyone have a great time. You will make friends here. The security is good too I lost my phone and they found it in under 20 minutes. The activities, delicious food, and view will be very much missed. Highly recommend you to come here!!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS HOTEL. Very, very disappointed (angry) with Occidental caribe, if you reading this review and trying to deciding which hotel to go with your family, DO NOT GO , go to another hotel and ASK IF THE HAVE A PROMOTION(CHEAP) WEEKEND PASS FOR THE LOCALS, I was over there a year ago and was very good and I decide to go this weekend (9/26/21)for my birthday, we went there with friends on Friday and it took us an hour to check in, I found out that the hotel sold a very cheap weekend pass promotion for the locals, there where lines everywhere, people with no manners, very cheap food, if I knew about the promotion for the locals , I would never celebrate my birthday in this hotel, the breakfast , lunch and dinner was terrible with cheap food, took more than 40 minutes for an omelet, from Friday afternoon to Sunday lunch , the locals are there(every weekend), the only time we had a good food was in the Sunday dinner and Monday morning, after the breakfast we had to go back to Florida, I think was very dishonest of the hotel to sell cheap weekend passes to the locals and charge us more, I paid extra for the ocean view, there are a lot more bad things but I won’t waste my time writing, we all never go back to this hotel and for the next trips, my first question will be, do you sell cheap promotion to the locals. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS HOTEL.

We’ve been back 3 times and love this resort. It always has reasonable prices. Food was very good, however the AC went out in the hotel on the first day we were there and still at day 3 there was nothing fixed? It seems like a breach of ethics to not have AC for 3 days when they advertise it. Nothing was done in compensation. We also have a flight risk in our 3 year old and asked about a change in rooms so we could have a lock at the top that worked. It was frustrating because no one seemed to take us seriously and just rolled their eyes at my worry. We have ran out to catch our 3 year old by the balcony in the hall 3 times and was so scary. I feel like it should have been treated much more seriously as it is a liability to them? All that to be said the food was good, waterslides were a huge hit with my kids and we had fun. They just need to take their customers seriously, show compassion and have better customer service. Also it should be a priority to get that AC running again. These things this year will make us seriously consider a different place next time. Be aware and check before you go.

WASTE OF MONEY & STRESSFUL GETAWAY! When you walk into a buffet and see ketchup designs on cold cuts and cheese, you know you're in for a pleasant food poisoning experience! My husband and I are not picky eaters, but the food at this hotel is absolutely revolting. Reused in dishes for the following mealtime and overall bland. The worst part is that the food is the same every day. Gordon Ramsay is desperately needed! - Barely or often no English service. (So much for customer service) - Barely cleaned rooms + No fresh bath towels. (Even when leaving tips) - No beach towels (EVER) - Not enough dining tables, cutlery, beach/pool chairs - Dirty and overcrowded dining area - EXTREMELY loud entertainment especially at the pool area. - Bingo Bongo is the most annoying loud pool activity. You can even hear it at the beach and from your room. - Extremely slow service everywhere! The service is so bad that you can’t even physically tip the staff. - Terrible AC (our room was at 25-26C not lower) - Front desk, guest services and staff supervisors are all useless. ***All the 1 star ratings below are beyond accurate to this day*** No improvement has been made.

’m not one to write a review especially a bad one. Reading the reviews was the reason my family and I chose to stay here for our family reunion. However my experience doesn’t reflect all the positive things everyone else has stated about this hotel. STAFF: If you’re BLACK meaning all shades or origins of Black, the staff here is rude and have no issue being rude to you. The ironic part is… they’re BLACK. colorism is the true term. I’ve seen how they treat guests who are darker than me horribly. Guests who are of a lighter complexion get assisted first, doesn’t matter if you are next to be help; they get priority. Spanish is the primary language but to talk about people is very unprofessional yet alone just mean. You don’t know who might speak multiple languages or who you’re offending. It’s very unfortunate that I have to write this review. With all the horrible things going on in world that people choose to be ugly human beings, especially when it comes from people who look like you. Only two of the bellhop guys were friendly and I wish I knew their names to shout them out. Another funny thing is my family are the only ones tipping the staff but yet we’re getting treated the way we are. HOTEL: The location of the hotel is beautiful and the pools are nice. The live entertainment was pretty impressive. My room was decent. My bathroom wasn’t the cleanest. My hallway had a wet mildew smell and my sheets weren’t the cleanest. But according to my family member’s my issues weren’t worth me complaining. Some of them didn’t have AC and few left to go to other resort due to the uncleanliness of their rooms. I personally wouldn’t want to stay here again or recommend it due to how the staff are. This was my first time in the Dominican Republic and the first impression wasn’t met for a great experience.

This hotel is amazing! The shows are so entertaining and there is something different every night. The Michael Jackson impersonator was amazing! The workers are so kind and their dancing always makes everyone feel happy. I’ll definitely be back soon. Lizbeth was so kind!

This place is a mess. Starting with the check in process. Very disorganized. The food was horrible, tasteless and unpleasant. The rooms are dated and falling apart. Our room door was literally falling apart and we had to go to the front desk about 4 times to get the Keys reprogrammed. The shower was nasty, AC did not work and I was never able to turn on the ceiling fan. My family and I were very disappointed of this place. The beach is awesome and the pool area is decent. We requested an extra small bed for our 6 year old son at the check in, after that, we called several times to ask about it, finally at 11pm they called to let us know that they had not extra beds available. Shame.

Awesome spot, amazing workers, great food. The hotel stay was an amazing trip. We stayed there for 5 days 4 nights. Guest services were incredible and everyone was so very nice and kind. There is food constantly and the restaurants make you feel like you are in the actual country. (I prefer the hibachi). Hotel rooms are comfortable and very affordable. If you want to get away for the weekend or even a week, this place is the place to be. It is all inclusive and the drinks are very good and service is amazing. The more you tip, the better service you get. There are a lot of activities to do and if you want to workout, the gym is right next to the hotel. thank you Harry Fernandez

The food was overall not great, but typical for an all-inclusive resort. The drink selection was also okay, pretty much only rail alcohol available. It is an amazing environment for college students, a ton of fun, but I definitely would not come here with my family. That being said, the staff was great. Wanda and Paola especially.

Stayed there last week for 7 days. Buffet is absolutely horrendous. Lost weight during my stay. AC does not work, the rooms are incredibly hot. Plumbing did not work, had to flush the toilet 5 times for anything to remotely go down. Loud music keeps you up and night & wakes you up early in the morning. Showers are freezing. Bugs on the sinks. Was only given 2 towels for 4 guests in our room. Not very clean. The drinks were great and everyone was very friendly. Very nice pool and beach area. It was all good and fun outside of the hotel itself.

Immaculate grounds, clean, beautiful pools, outstanding white sand beaches. The rooms are a bit outdated and our shower wasn't great, but for the price, I'm not going to complain. The AC was functional, barely, but again, the price! The buffet was extensive and recent. The restaurants required reservations and to be honest, not particularly great, but it gives you a chance to dress up and eat somewhere other than the buffet. The staff are very pleasant and we became friendly with a few of them. We met a couple that regularly vacation at this resort. They have tried many other resorts and declare this one their favorite. I will come back to this resort.

My experience here was wonderful! It was my first international trip and the staff made it a feel safe and become friendly faces around the resort. Especially (Kelly vines) he made my experience unforgettable, With his fun, positive energy. He Made everyday worth it !! The food at the buffet was good and sometimes better then the restaurants. The drinks they give at the bar are more like double or triple shots, but with the right bartender they make them prefect. The beach and all the mini activity’s they offer so so fun and amazing!! You will feel at home here I Stayed here for two weeks. And sad to go home

We had a great week at Occidental Caribe. Resort is very well kept and clean, staff is very friendly, reservation dinners were delicious. We travelled with 2 kids, 2.5 and infant and both enjoyed the pools, beach and kiddie pool!! The beach is kept so clean, loads of chairs and palm trees!! The resort is really nicely laid out lots of space but an easy walk to everything!!

It was excellent. The staff and entertainment was brilliant. There was constantly new activities to do during the day to keep you busy such as darts and bean bag throw. The place is very clean and tidy. Deverlys Figueroa the entertainer was very friendly and helpful and encouraged us daily to join in and made our holiday very fun and enjoyable.

Sadly, we will not be recommending this resort to anyone in our family and friend groups who plan on visiting Punta Cana in the future. There were several positive aspects in our time there. Overall, the Dominican people are lovely and worked very hard at helping to make our stay a positive one. The lady who took care of our room was exceptional. She made sure it was clean and that we had clean towels and enough bottled water. I got very sick from the water and she made sure I had enough bottled water, paper products and clean towels. The transfer company that drove us to and from the resort was great. For these reasons, it is sad for me to write the negative review because the people who are hard at work should not suffer for the lack of resort quality that the Barcelo Group should be addressing. Frankly, to call Occidental Caribe a resort is embarrassing. After waiting for over an hour and after one of the front desk staff was extremely rude and aggressive with my husband, a woman on staff at the front desk treated us kindly. We did get connecting rooms as we requested. One had AC and one had none. Thankfully, we were able to open the connecting doors and share the air with the other room as best we could. My sister was not so blessed. She had two rooms with no AC in them. We were told repeatedly that they were working on it but upon reading the reviews, it seems the resort has had no air for months now. The food at your buffet stations could be improved greatly. We were able to eat eggs and bread from the omelette station. My daughter had a piece of black hard plastic in one of her omelettes and thankfully, the fork hit the piece before she could put it in her mouth. The Snack Shack by the pool and Pizza was the only thing that helped sustain us while we were there. The rice/beans, fruit, and chicken dishes they provided were tasty and plentiful. The on-site restaurants are a hit or miss. We visited 3 and only one, Tokio, was good but after talking with another traveler about her experience I cringed that I ate there twice. Again, the staff were very kind to ask us for our drink preferences. The ladies at the towel huts were so kind and friendly. Finally, the beach is clean and beautiful and the pools areas are maintained well, although the pool water could use a good shock treatment and cleaning since the water is slimy. If I can take all of the hard working staff members and move them to another resort with working amenities, then this would be a resort we can visit again and recommend to family and friends.

Deverlys was fantastic! A great host, lots of fun, our first full day has been nothing but fun. Between the silly water aerobics, and the ring toss game, the drinks have been delicious, and pretty, the group of girls I came with, including myself, have felt so welcomed. Even the buffet which we were not looking forward too, has been above our expectations! Glad to be here.

The room was nice but we would’ve loved a bit more colder room at nights it felt kinda warm. The STAFF was so amazing and welcoming they were so wonderful! The food was NOT so great at the buffet but the Restaurants were fine. ENTERTAINMENT was very fun…!!! ONE BAD thing over the weekend the Hotel was very overcrowded!!Mostly by locals!! So the pool was not the place for social distancing! We were mostly at the beach! We did Parasailing and that was one of the highlights of the trip.

The place was amazing , staff were very friendly and welcoming. They had a great daily program for gussets . I really appreciate that for hospitality . I miss Sandy bartender with best mohito.thank to Milly for good communication and customer service also there wasn’t waiting time to get your room they were ready and we got a room quickly thank to Domingo and Debrah they were very helpful and responsible.everything was awesome just I can’t say that if you are picky maybe you don’t like some foods but overall it was perfect and excellent.

This resort was only ok in my book. The food at the buffet was sub par, and had little variation from day to day. The buffet service was also of low quality; servers, for the most part, were robotic, emotionless, and poor at offering refills and checking on our needs. Restaurant foods were good, but service was like the buffet service. Over 5 days, only one buffet server stood out with her attentiveness. Communication at the front desk was minimal, with no indication of activities or information about the resort. Also, once checked in, it took hours for our room to be ready. Once it was, it was not as we booked, with no working fan or AC. The bed was average in comfort. Guest Services was stellar, with Rosanna shining like a bright star, offering expedient solutions to our problems. She promptly switched us to a room that was correct. Halfway through the stay, the AC failed, but the ceiling fan saved the day. The housekeeping was good, but varied wildly on time of day it was performed, with towels not being replaced. Our key cards had to be reprogrammed as well. The beach and pools were very nice. There was a disco, pool party, live music, and entertainment, but we were not made aware of when these things were happening. There was a gym, spa, kids club, kids pool, 4 boutiques, 5 restaurants, 3 pools, water sports and activities.

My husband and I just finished a 7 day stay here for our honeymoon. It was very beautiful and the staff was super great! However, there was no AC the whole time, we kept being told it would be fixed the next day when we asked but found out it has actually been out since June. Additionally, the power went out on the 6th day of our trip, though thankfully this was resolved quickly. It was normally 28 degrees in a room, but ranged from 26-30. The food was mediocre and repetitive. And the rooms were pretty outdated, though our bed was comfy and the TV was new. The staff in the premier club was excellent!!! There was awesome live music every night, the pools seems to be well kept, and the beach is lovely. Also the circus show was very impressive!

Love this hotel. I had the greatest experience here. Best vacation I had in a long time. The shows here are amazing 10/10. And food here is great too. And parties on the beach the best!!! The greatest entertainment here is by Rafael shanty

The animation team was AMAZING!!! They Kept us entertained all the days we were by the pool. We enjoyed the games and also the prices. Jeffrey, Rosa and all the others on the animation team were outstanding!

  • 4/5 Anna C. 8 months ago on Google
My family and I stayed there for 9 days. Rooms are okay except the A/C does not work very well. The TV is very old and outdated (did not really matter as we were not there to watch TV). The only extreme problem we had was our door was broken and did not lock. You were able to open it with a simple push. We told front desk multiple times and they did nothing about it. It made me not feel secure during the night as I knew it was very easy to open the door. Do not stay in room number 1316. The service was okay except the entertainment team. The entertainment team is beyond excellent! They work from the morning until midnight without any stops. There are multiple programs by the pool as well as foam parties on Saturday. Their dancing is incredible they dance all day. My partner and I won a dancing competition while staying at Occidental Caribe and the entertainment staff gifted us 2 bottles of wine. During other day activities my partner was able to win another bottle but this time is was rum and a bag of coffee. Other staff is not much help they do not smile or go out of their way much to help you if you need something and they expect a tip for talking to you quite literally. The food was very staple foods. There was nothing luxurious or over the top. Food is very accessible but it is certainly not luxury. The Mexican restaurant turns into a snack bar that serves food until 5 am. It comes in handy most days There are many excursions to chose from as well. Prices are fairly reasonable! The souvenirs however are extremely overpriced. We went off the resort for a day and quickly figured out the prices of souvenirs on the resort are 3-4x double to CAD if not more.

The entertainment asks us to fill up this and put 5 stars which is not ethical. Overall this place survives thanks to the people that works here, but we had many problems because they didn’t clean our room or didn’t change the towels, we had to call and ask them to do it, which is very annoying after a day in the buggies or at the beach. When we arrived no information about the place was given and we didn’t know that the place had other restaurants that we can book till our last days… the service and food was very good over there btw. Neither about the spa or other offers they have. The bar service is the worst, there is a lot to improve there as they as very slow and they keep forgetting our orders. But staff in the buffet is very hardworking and friendly, we had some issues because people were taking our sits while we were looking for our food, but after talking to the staff they started to take charge of that and they had improved. The food is very good, but they should have alternative milk or dairy free products for the ones that cannot have milk. The entertainment is good they have many activities. I liked the show a lot.

My experience at the hotel was a wonderful one. Once I arrived I was greeted and giving drinks. Also I was able to check in a little earlier than normal which was very conOne staff member in particular, Nicol, was very nice and knowledgeable of the hotel. She had nothing but good spirits and often engaged the guest with the games and activities. Overall my stay was a pleasant one and I would definitely recommend the facility to others.

The beaches are the best we’ve ever been to and the resort has an incredible structure. However, we had to change our room 3 times due to a variety of issues: malfunctioning toilet, non-working door, clogged smelly bathroom sink … The food at the buffet and restaurants was terrible. This would be a fantastic resort if the owners renovated all restrooms and upgraded the food.

Beautiful beach. Staff is very courteous. There were some issues with the safe and toilet but as soon as I called it was resolved. Entertainment at theater us really good. Also the music around the pool and the games in the beach. Definitely recommend. Look for Rafael Corsica from the entertainment staff. Very friendly.!!!!

Staying at the occidental hotel and the staff is absolutely AMAZING! Very social and fun. The hotel has been great with any accommodations. We did some activities such as ring toss and water aerobics with the staff. Deverlys Nunez and Lucia Luisa 👍🏻👍🏻

I was 8 days on this hotel, the first 4 days the room was on top of the buffet area starting at 3:30AM no way to sleep with the loud of plates, people talking, terrible!!! We decided move from this hotel but they change our room to the quiet area and we decided stay the following days. Also on weekend full of people not enough food on buffet, big lines and we decided get food out of the hotel after the first breakfast on Saturday, really bad service EVERY DAY on the buffet, I have to stand to get my own water, napkins, forks, etc Staff on front desk, restaurants, housekeeping and bars good 👍

The only thing bad is the casino is a big scam. 3 red flags- no one playing, no money upfront, so hard to tell what you are winning or losing, target and corral people who are drinking to the less than ethical games. Edit and follow on since arriving home- Both my son and my daughter's boyfriend's credit card information was used at places we did not go. The only time these cards were used was at the casino. I do not believe the casino is owned by the Hotel. We loved our stay and would recommend staying here, just avoid the casino. Do go to the live shows and beach parties. the beach is beautiful pools are nice, and the food is outstanding. I would absolutely recommend the premium package, we did not at first understand what it all entailed, but once we did, the service was more than outstanding. We booked 4 rooms and 11 people, and my wife and I stayed in the presidential suite. All the rooms were above expectations but our room made me feel like a king. The wifi could be spotty but this affected my kids more than me, and sometimes it is good to disconnect. Final comment, the staff were more than accommodating, willing to make this less of a vacation and more of an experience. A few little language barriers even though we had a Spanish speaker with us. I did use my translation app. And all worked out. Can't wait to return.

First time at this resort our 2 nd day here . So far service has been amazing. Contrary to other comments our check in was done within minutes! We have ocean view room that was located right above the buffet which was very noisy . We asked to change room the employee was very accommodating changed us to another room with amazing view and very quiet! The Rooms are extremely clean Buffet was not the greatest and reservations to restaurant are not that easy to get. Drinks are very good staff is extremely friendly and helpful! Resort is a bit older some minor things broken ( like most resorts/hotel) but none of that really matters beach is beautiful pool are very nice plenty of chairs . Would definitely come back

Great hotel! We have been here many times. The beach is beautiful and the pools are great. The kiddie pool is a great entertainment area for kids. Food is really good with a lot if options. The animation team is amazing. They bonded with our kids really well and took good care of them in the kids play zone area. There are plenty of things to do. This is a little gem in DR for a great price.

We stayed as a large group at this resort for spring break and it was incredible! Deverly, the towel lady, was super nice and went out of her way to help us. Resort staff were very happy considering there were over 500 spring breakers. Great trip for young people!

Good hotel for reasonable money. Fantastically located by a beautiful beach. Large selection of food and fruit. Smiling staff. It does not mean that you are not such as poor quality and soundproof doors, the need to encode cards several times, etc, but these are small things.

Just spent the last week at Occidental Caribe. Has a great time in the pool and at the beach. Happy I made this my first choice of travel in a few years. All of the staff has been amazing, especially Harry from the foam party. All of the bartenders and towel staff. The food was pretty good and I really enjoyed the Japanese and Dominican restaurants. Thanks to the staff

This resort should be rated a 3 star resort. The customer service was the worst that I have ever experienced at a resort. The workers seem like they do not want to be there. The restaurants were ok. The food was mostly served lukewarm. The buffet food was not the greatest. The restaurant by the pool was the worst! We arrived starving from our flight and that was the only option for food. They had burgers and hotdogs. The burgers tasted horrible, even my 6 year old son that loves burgers hated it! I will not consider going back. The nightly entertainment was ok, nothing special. There are no shoes, just karaoke nights, or a saxophone player. Also, the french and italian restaurants were closed from Monday- Thursday. I arrived Sunday and left Thursday, so I did not get to try it. I'm not sure if the excuse is COVID, but I did go to Cancun 2 months before... and the resort in Cancun had every restaurant open with nightly shows and great entertainment. I was highly disappointed with my visit here. It was my first time ever to Punta Cana and it was not the greatest experience.

Not bad for the price. Staff was friendly. Nice views. My room overlooked the beach. I expected the room to be of a better quality, but it was clean. Buffett was not bad. Dominican restaurant was delicious.

Checked in on a Friday. 4 nights in - 2 more to go First day here was a nightmare due to the unusual / terrible check in process. When you first arrived they give a reservation number and towel cards so you can start enjoying the facilities. Great. But then you are required to return after 3:00pm to get your room number and key. At this time the lobby is filled with dozens of people that are there for the same reason. Come to find out from an employee that the hotel gets flooded with locals for the weekend. There was no order whatsoever and the worst part, management did seem to care about all the caos. People cutting the line, pushing, giving their forms to others in front of the line behaving very uncivilized. The total check in process to finish took over 2 hours in a packed lobby without a single fan to move the air. The rest of the week is not going much better. Bath towels for some reason are hard to come by. Multiple calls to get them replaced at times. The room could have been cleaned a little better. The dinning room tables do not get cleared fast enough and had to use a not so clean table at times. Most bartenders work as if they are having a miserable time at their jobs. I get it, it is not easy work but some people should not be in the service industry. People are allowed to smoke in a lot of areas that are not supposed to where there are no ashtrays. Not every aspect of the stay has been bad but I don’t think that things are going to be much better. A million thanks to the employees that do an awesome job ( tipped accordingly) but most left a lot to be desired. I do not recommend this place.

Compare to other ones, it is not the best. Had problems at check-in due to room size and family size. Buffet could be better with lack of choices for the kids (picky eaters). Difficult to bring a guess just to visit for a couple hours; they wouldn't even let her pass the gate after we confirmed with customer service that she was my guess. Ended up paying more for the stay after a problem with the booking and lack of choice at time of reservation for a family of 5.

This was once my favorite place on earth. My last visit was disappointing. Service has definitely gone downhill since myasthenia visit in 2018. Very little entertainment, a la cart restaurants are only opened on certain days, sports bar is defunct. Buffet has been reduced. However, even though this is an older resort the care taken on the grounds and cleanliness is second to none.

The place is very well maintained and the beach and pools are very clean which is very important, but unfortunately the rooms left us a bitter taste after seeing it, the smell of the rooms was terrible, we have ask at the reception to send someone and check on it, the guy that showed up he said that is nothing to do regarding the bad smell and he just opened the bag coffee and stuck it into the AC. The bathroom wasn’t clean at all and no matter how many times we call and we go to the reception to fix the issue the housekeepers aren’t showing up for cleaning and changing the towels. Reception agreed to change our room to get rid of that bad smell coming out of the AC but the bathroom got the same issues, isn’t clean, full of dust everywhere and the housekeepers not leaving clean towels after removing the old ones, only after several calls to the reception they are showing up with towels. Overall the resort looks amazing outside we enjoyed so much the pool side and the beach but they really need to change something on their housekeeping services.

This was our first all inclusive experience, overall we had a great week at the Occidental Caribe. Pool areas are very good - there was plenty of chairs, good variety of restaurants (the hibachi restaurant was our favourite- Ramon was very good). We chose to do the lobster dinner on the beach, I would definitely recommend this for a couple, the food was delicious. Staff were overall very friendly, Eduord behind the bar was a very nice guy. There is nightly entertainment which is quite family orientated, along with entertainment in the main bar beside the Italian restaurant. I would encourage everyone to try the Sailing Splash excursion, we had an excellent day out, along with the Monkey land Adventure (again this one is very family orientated). In the room itself, we did leave the card for getting the bed changed and this was not always done which was a little disappointing, the mini bar is restocked with water, but not always the soft drinks, the towels were not replenished daily, we were left without a hand towel and face cloths after the first day. The shower screen was not sealed properly which left a sopping wet floor every time, overall cleanliness was good, very comfy beds and good wardrobe space. We had a great view from the Ocean View room, rooms were nicely sound proofed. If you are looking to eat in the restaurants and not the buffet, I’d recommend booking all of them a few days in advance in the guest service office, we normally made about 2 or 3 bookings ahead of time, if you leave it to that morning, you most likely won’t get a reservation, bookings aren’t done after 3 o’clock. Buffet food was Ok, but had clearly been reheated, or had sat there for a certain length of time - I’d recommend going to one of the chefs to ask them to cook you something fresh, there was a pasta station, egg station, tacos, fajitas, Dominican fried food along with a few other options, also the pizza restaurant is open at lunch, you need to get there early to get a seat, but this was our favourite lunch option. The Dominican restaurant was our least favourite, the soup was served cold, and the steak was over cooked when we asked for medium. This is a good a good cheaper option for an All Inclusive as you get what you pay for.

Overall this was a great spot to come. Our first day here was magnificent, great pool, beautiful beach. I was very surprised the first day when most of the bars (pool bar, beach bar, lobby bar) started closing down at 4pm, or only served beer. Mixed drinks seemed hard to come by and most of the bars we visited were out off vodka or rum. At various times many of the bars were out of alcohol. Frequently the bars would be staffed by one and there would be long waits. I have never been to an all inclusive bar where there wasn't alcohol.. as far as activities go, there were things to do, the animation staff put on a show every day poolside around 3pm. There never seemed to be a posted schedule of activities or a central hub for activities. Near the end of our stay, animation staff seemed to engage more and encourage participation, unfortunately this didn't happen the first five days of our trip. On the last few days, staff would occasionally walk around with trays of drinks. Again it felt as though staff were less present and interactive. This is a nice resort in a beautiful setting, but it feels as though a renewed focus on customer service and customer engagement would go a long way to improving the experience of guests.

The beach at this hotel is, unsurprisingly, gorgeous: white sand; blue water; sunny skies. The service, however, leaves a bad taste in one's mouth, starting from the moment of arrival. Following a two-and-a-half hour bus ride, hordes of tourists were summarily relieved of their luggage and herded into the lobby to wait in the check-in line for a half-hour, only to be informed that their rooms are not ready and that they should wait in the loud and crowded dining hall until 3PM. At the appointed hour, the horde returned to the lobby and waited another two hours before being given keys, because their rooms were not ready. It was evident throughout the whole experience that the hotel is understaffed and lacks organization. The front desk staff, waiters, and cleaners try their best, but there are not enough of them. Guests are required to submit a card to receive pool towels, but often there are none to be had. The dining hall is crowded and patrons wait in long lines to be served. Cutlery and coffee are nearly impossible to find. Ditto for clean tables. The pools are nice, especially the one for children. The staff try their best and are courteous, despite having to listen to endless complaints from patrons. Ultimately, what is lacking is competent management and a willingness to spend money to competently meet patrons basic needs. Needless to mention (but I will anyway) that I will not be visiting this hotel again and will be spreading the word that potential patrons should seek alternate accomodations.
