Very underwhelming. The museum is rather small and provides little information shiny the life of Kusama herself. Yes, the building is beautiful, the toilet too but I finished the whole exhibition in 20 minutes… maybe I’m not too big of a fan. On the 2F and 3F you cannot photograph and the art they put on display rotated. Overall, I would not recommend going out of your way to visit this museum. If you still want to go: be sure to buy tickets in advance. They are mostly sold out on the day and they do not sell at the door.

If you’re a huge fan of Yayoi, you’ll probably get a lot out of this space. I myself am not a huge fan, so I found the small space a little lacklustre. There are a few really cool installations, but the entire museum maybe has 45 minutes worth of things to see. Additionally, there are a few rooms where your time is limited. I’d probably only recommend a visit if you’ve got a lot of time in Tokyo.

The museum is aways changing its art pieces and rotates a lot through works of the artist. It’s very well taken care of, and the way it’s disposed it allows you to live the immersion rooms by yourself. The gift shop as well changes from time to time leaving the space really focused on her artwork. However, the museum is REALLY small and seeing everything( properly, taking my time) took around 17minutes, I’d recommend if you can get the tickets a day or two before but waiting three months for it… it was underwhelming, and very different from what I was expecting. Again, expectations are personal but it’s just really small and u derwgelming given the expectation built around all the ticket waiting time, lines etc etc

Fan of the Dot artist, don’t miss her museum while in Tokyo. I was lucky to be able to see Yayoi Kusama’s exhibition in Hong Kong and fell in love with her work. Indeed while in Tokyo, I had to go to her museum. Don’t expect lots of her work, it is quite a small museum actually. The big highlight is “I’m here but nothing” room. You get 90 secondes inside in a group but if you are lucky and there are not too many people you get to go on your own. Check the photos and videos to get an idea what to expect. There is a small souvenir shop. Fan of Yayoi Kusama don’t miss it. Note that booking well in advance is highly recommended.

As other reviewers wrote, the exhibit is quite small. There are only 6 installations of her work, one on each floor. It also does not go into great detail about her life or other art. Purchase your tickets online and you can enter the building 10 minutes early. Due to COVID measures, you can only be in the building for 90 minutes (which is plenty). In the infinity light room, you will be given a quick 5 minutes in the room without anyone else. The art pieces are still worth visiting but definitely not as extensive as one would hope.

The small museum was a bit underwhelming as we thought the Tokyo location will feature more variety of her beautiful art. You can find more relevant pieces around the world than what we found here. Location is a bit out of the way but Google maps took us there with no trouble. Tickets are sold online only and be prepare to wait outside of the museum for your time slot to be called. Please read the museum guidelines as they clearly explain what is expected from visitors. There is no food or drinks available for purchase in the museum. Overall it was a nice visit but we expected more.

Great museum, but very small. I honestly thought there would be more artwork to honour the great Yayoi Kusama in her flagship museum. The artwork that was exposed was beautiful and colourful. I particularly liked the room with the black light and polka dots. All in all, it is worth seeing if you enjoy colourful modern art and the ticket price is reasonable (1100 yen). You need to book in advance online as it will sell out.

(Translated by Google) Complete reservation system with a limit of 40 people per hour. Inbound demand is sold out 2 months ago. Now that the corona is bad, the place that people touched is immediately disinfected and very safe, so now is the chance. The pumpkin on the roof is picking up, It was a special exhibition that was replaced about twice, so we never went there. The whole building is a museum, and the tension rises from the outside. The number of exhibits is small, but I wonder if I can immerse myself in it. Access is poor and there is no parking lot. There is no place to stop by. The museum shop has a few limited edition items, Less than museums with other exhibitions. The rooftop on a clear evening is very good. If there aren't many people Please also take a look at the toilets on each floor. Underrated museum in Tokyo — yayoi kusama is a cultural icon at a global scale and this is a quick and easy museum to fit in. A little far away but accessible by subway. You can do the whole thing in 30-60 minutes. You have to get tickets in advance tho so don’t wait if you want to see this

Discover so much about the different side of her work on top of what we usually see. Even though it is a small museum it is very inspiring. Do book you tickets in advance. They have limited tickets per day.

I've read a few reviews that the exhibit is small and the visit is super short. I personally took a good 2 hours as I wanted to enjoy the videos and super interesting texts that are present as well as fully immerse myself in it. I think it was completely worth the visit. To add to it the staff were very friendly and helpful. Also don't forget to book your tickets beforehand because sometimes they can be sold out and you won't get to enter that day!

An amazing space that houses exhibitions of Yayoi Kusama including new works. I have attended many of the biannual collections they are shown throughout the building and crowned in the open air rooftop by a brilliant sculptor including giant pumpkin and more recently a flower. It was such a privilege to see early works, videos and press archives from her avant-garde career. The main gallery has hosted collections of vibrant and lush works that fill the room and your being with love. It is an experience that I will constantly return to and always learn a more about this transformative artist and her undeniable ability to reach out to the viewers to make us feel. A must see experience if you are a fan or art lover. Make sure you book before your visit. Thank you for sharing!! ❤️💜💚

Mini Museums Shop

Though museum is small, it is worth the visit to enjoy and admire the artwork of this great artist. At the top floor there is collection of books about Yayoi for browsing. The only feedback I have is the lack of merchandise. Do book your tickets in advance as they do not sell tickets on the spot and there is a limitation to the number of people entering the museum for each time slot. It may not be located near train station, it is pretty easy to navigate via google map. Do note that no photography is allowed at 2nd and 3rd floor except for the light room but there is a time limit on how long we can stay in the room. It is a joy to see the lift decorated with polka dots too!

Bought tickets online for timed visit. Tickets are available for purchase on site as well. Interesting exhibition. I love the pumpkins and polka dot room the most. Poetry pieces have English translation as well. Do visit the toilet, it's part of the experience =) Not crowded so it was nice to be able to sit and enjoy the sculpture at the top floor

It wasn't as good as I was expecting. I've loved her work for a long time, and I've read about her life and history. So, I was OK with the small exhibition with no artwork titles or information about her. But if you aren't familiar with her work at all, there is no information! I think at least there should be titles. Also, it was a very small collection, and I've enjoyed her other exhibitions better. To be honest, maybe my expectations were high because I wanted to go here for a year or more, but I was disappointed. There were also a lot of things geared towards taking photos for social media, which I'm not really into either. Even the time line of her life was only written highlights without photos. I really think this museum needs improvement.

(Translated by Google) I watched it on weekdays with the first reservation frame in the morning. The number of people is limited, so you can watch it slowly. Since it was a museum named after him, I expected to see various works, so I was honestly disappointed with the small number of works. I think it is a valuable place for enthusiastic fans because there are the latest works produced for the special exhibition. Very small exhibit. Though not as exciting as some larger museums, it’s a simple and cute detour if you have the time on your day trip to Tokyo. Not a main sight to see, but a nice extra if you’re in the area often. The exhibit does not give too much background about her life, but if you know you know. The polka dot room exhibit was cool. Reservations by online queue only.

Unfortunately underwhelming. I have been at the exhibition in Montreal last year and was surprised that the actual Yayoi Kusama Museum offers a lot less. It's 4 small floors with only a handful of pieces and almost no explanation about them and none about her amazing life. There is only two sculptures, one interactive room (that is not as fun as the infinity rooms) and about 25 paintings total. The part I enjoyed the most is the view of the city from the top floor, and the Tokyo Modern Art Museum in Roppongi has so much more merchandise to offer, this was also surprising that there isn't a lot of variety to buy at the shop downstairs. It was a let-down.

An art museum that is standing between our daily 3+1 dimensional world and Kusama’s 2-4+1 hyper-personal inward dimensions. Brilliant, but I still feel dizzy now.

I am in the fandom of Yayoi Kusama for so long, so as soon as i knew that i will be in Tokyo, this place is on my to-go list. The building itself is nicely done in contemporary style with a roof top. Don't miss using the toilet here, you will be surprised of its decorative approach. Anyway, i would give only 4 stars as the museum features too little collections, only on fl. 2-3 and an installation on rooftop. I used to visit Yayoi Exhibition in S'Pore and it has more items than this museum. The souvenir shop should be called souvenir corner as it is quite small, but i still found myself buying something for 5,000 yens 😜.

I was surprised with how few or little this museum features her works compared to the infinity exhibition I attended in Singapore a couple of years ago. This is a good introduction to her work but I would be happier if a bigger display of her works can be found in Japan.

June 2023: a little far off the metro station but ok walk on a non rainy day. Lockers provided at first floor as visitors are to climb stairs for 5 floors and then take the lift down. No photos allowed on 2F and 3F. Photos allowed the rest of the floors. Prior booking of tickets a must. No walk ins. Items for sale at the gift shop the same as in MOMA design shop. Installations are similar (and in fact more limited) to those I have seen in the Yayoi exhibition in Singapore. However it was nice visiting the museum itself.

The yayoi museum was a cool experience but it was a little underwhelming. Some of the exhibits are really cool while others are not very interesting. The museum itself is quite small and it felt like there was not a lot to look at, just a lot of empty space. The museum was very nice overall. The exhibits are not too crowded thanks to their ticketing system. I had really hoped to see more of an infinity room like some of her traveling shows have. However, it was beautiful to see the one that permanently resides here. Her art work is so detailed it was easy to spend nearly an hour just admiring the few floors with her large and small format paintings. The admission is cheap. You just need to reserve as soon in advance as possible to get in. A definite recommendation for lovers of art.

I would have liked to see a more dedicated space to the life and personal views of Yayoi Kusama but that was limited to just a TV screen and slideshow on the first floor. The architecture of the building is nice and serves as a good platform for the works. The rooftop terrace is a great bonus. Worth a visit if you’re around!

If you love art and want to immerse yourself in the unique world of Yayoi Kusama, it is a nice gallery. I enjoyed going through each floor and understanding her inspiration for each piece. It gives you a glimpse into her genius mind. It’s nice that reservations must be made in advance so that the space doesn’t get overcrowded. It may seem a bit underwhelming if you are just there to see her famous sculptures.

Although the ticket price is not that high it is disappointing as there are very few pieces of art. if you don't have to wait to get see some of the art works, you would struggle to need more than 30 minutes in the building. The building itself is light and modern and it seems a missed opportunity not to take advantage of the building design to integrate more art work. Top floor has an unusual view of Shinjuku and the skylight on the top floor is beautifully designed. Worth checking out one of the restrooms as they are decorated in the style of Yayoi Kusama as well.

This is a nice museum to go to especially if you're a Kusama fan. Pls buy your ticket in advance to avoid disappointment. The weekday that I went on, it was completely sold out. It's a small exhibition. Photography is not permitted on levels 2 and 3. Like all her exhibitions, there was room for you to experience I a darkened room with dots highlighted in the uv light. Each solo or group is given a certain time to enjoy it.

Her best pieces are in the room where photos aren’t allowed, so if you’re scrolling through the photos judging whether to visit - there’s still more to see! Absolutely recommend to go. Personally we feel like there wasn’t enough paintings in this place, we thoroughly enjoyed the ones where you can’t take photos of but we were left wanting more. There’s a very cool room you can go in to get a funky UV experience. Also wished the gift shop was more extensive. *pre book tickets in advance!*

Bit of a let down. I feel terrible for saying it, but it’s the truth. I’ve been a fan of Kusama Yayoi since seeing her My Eternal Soul exhibit at the National Art Center back in 2017, so I was excited to visit a museum dedicated to her. I was a bit caught off guard by the tiny size and poor use of what space there was. The museum is narrow with five floors (be ready to climb stairs, by the way), but each floor contains only a handful of works with a considerable amount of empty space. What there was was brilliant, but it being her own dedicated museum, I just wished there was more. Much more. With its location being somewhat out of the way, I’m not sure I’d recommend it to anyone beyond a dedicated fan, and certainly not tourists with limited time to spend in Japan.

We visited prior to Covid and really enjoyed this museum! We love Kusama and have been following her works for awhile, so we were excited to be able to book tickets. Make sure to do so in advance, or it may be sold out the day of. Like other reviewers have said, there's not a ton of work here, but instead it offers a more detailed glimpse into some of her lesser known works and a deeper understanding of how she came to discovering her artistic style/expression. Note: Visited prior to Covid, so things may be a little different.

I love Yayoi Kusama. But this museum is too small and underwhelming. There were only 6 artworks on display. In comparison, her exhibition at the Singapore National Gallery was splendid with 120 artworks and I had enjoyed it very much. I feel that her works need to be exhibited in a bigger space to best showcase them. So the tiny museum space they have is probably not ideal. The museum is also not easy to get to because it's not near the train station.

You must make reservation ahead! It is getting very popular, so you can't just drop in anymore. I had to sign up for my visit a month ahead. They said they change the exhibits 1-2 times per year. So you can experience something different every year. There are souvenirs that you can only buy there too but I thought the selections were very small...

(Translated by Google) [Advance reservation required, no same-day ticket] [Exhibition contents changed as appropriate] Walk a little from the station. It can be from Kagurazaka or Waseda. Please note that the contents of the exhibition will change, so you may not even want to see the XX you saw in the photo before. The museum itself is small, so early people may finish in about 10 minutes. It's very interesting when you take a closer look! The toilets are also elaborate, so please pay attention to various places. (Translated by Google) It is relatively easy to make reservations at this time of year, and since the number of people is limited, there are few people and you can take a leisurely look around. I made two round trips and watched slowly. As it is written in many low reviews, Mr. Kusama's work was few compared to other museums, but I felt that I dared to put it a little here so that I could enjoy the entire space of architecture and works. .. It was good personally. There are some evaluations that the access is bad and the location is not good, but it is usually within walking distance of the station, that architecture looks beautiful because of that location, and after watching it, you can walk to Kagurazaka and take a walk. thought. It is recommended to go a little later than the reserved time (it seems that you can enter from the reserved time to 30 minutes) during the sunny day.

This is an amazing museum futured by famous artists “Kuwana Yayoi”. I guess you have ever seen her art somewhere in the world. Her artworks are said that comes from her imagination by depression. They are amazing and gorgeous. Especially here you can experience by yourself here like you get in a box or get in a room and you would be a part of her art. This building is just tiny and compacted in a small place. It takes only less than 1 hr. It’s good! Most of the artwork is photo available. Enjoy!!!

Had a great time at the Yayoi Kusama museum. They regularly change the special exhibits as well as the pieces that are on the floor of the museum. There is a small gift shop where you can buy exhibit books from the past, handkerchiefs, polka dot squash, scarf, and small money purse.

A concise museum that exhibits most of the highlights of the artist's life. I am not a fan of the artist's work but I enjoyed my visit here and was pleasantly surprised by some of here paintings. There are floors where taking pictures and videos are prohibited. This is usually explained at the beginning of the tour so please take note. Reservation is also required beforehand so make sure to make one before visiting.

Very underwhelming. Probably the second worst museum I’ve ever been to. Just for Instagram pretty much. Your best shot at a more authentic Yayoi experience would be in Roppongi (temporary STARS) or her hometown Matsumoto

(Translated by Google) Recommended if you like Yayoi Kusama's work. Polka dots start from the entrance. Since it is a reservation system, you can watch it calmly. You can put your luggage in the locker and see it empty-handed. One floor is small, so the number of works is small. You can go up and down as many times as you like within the time, so if you have a favorite place, you can aim for the timing when there are no people.
