Was excited at first to see the facility and all it had to offer. There are a wide variety of animals kept at the facility that we haven't seen before. It's just a pity they were kept in very small enclosures that did not seem to be me maintained at all (rusted cages, degrading platforms, dirty cages) without much enrichment or hiding place. The animals appear to be on display to be looked at without much regard for their mental or physical health. Some animals, like the monkeys, were also kept separately and seemed very depressed or sickly. Animal lovers should stay away. Would not recommend.

Sad, depressing cruel. This is a deeply distressing place. The animals here are kept in extremly small cages, the conditions are awful, rusting metal in there cages, some animals cages left on the floor. Tropical birds in the smallest possible cage. Nearly all of the animals were showing signs of deep distress, stress and mental issues, pacing and repeated motions. Tropical birds malting and distressed feathers from stress. Mo ekys running up and down over and over due to lack of space. Nothing in the cgaes for them to enjoy. Animals kept side by side in darkened environment. Really really sad to see such wonderful animals treated in such a disgusting way, I hope this place is shut down as soon as possible and the people kn charge who have kept these animals in such conditions should be jailed or fined. There is no excuse for this in such a rich country in 2023. A shame on Japan and it's usual extremely high standards. I wish I hadn't gone and really wish I hadn't given my money to such a prison. In the photos u will see a tortoise being kept with the skeleton of another tortoise directly in front. A gecko/lizard glass cage left on the floor next to cleaning equipment, the tiny cages, birds kept with nothing inside there cages at all, horrible how can people treat animals this way?

This zoo is quite possibly the most horrifying and derelict place I've ever vistited. Most of the animals are kept in cages barely bigger than themselves. The birds can't fly anywhere and some of the turtles can't even turn around. The snakes are lying in their own waste and some of the lemurs were running around their tiny cage over and over again, clearly needing more room to exercise. The indoor area is dirty, dark and water is leaking from the ceiling. Outside, the zookeeper was spraying down the floor of the baboon's enclosure, and occasionally spraying the monkeys themselves. On a cold day like today, they would have been drenched in water and freezing out there. All in all, this place is inhumane and to top it all off, expensive: 1000 Yen for 30 minutes of walking and exuberant prices for anything in the gift shop. Don't come here.

I was excited to see Capybara inside onsen, but turned out it’s depressing place… The staffs were friendly and it’s a good thing that most animals were rescued but the animal’s environment made me really concerned. The cages were so small! Monkeys were trying to get out..

Depressing place. I really regretted coming to this place. It is one of the worst attraction I’ve been to in Japan. If I knew that animals are in such small cages I would not have supported. Their animals all look so depressed and sad being locked up in very small cages, barely even have any space to move. I didn’t even want to take any pictures because all of their animals look so depressed and lifeless. I could see it in their eyes. They have never seen the outside world. Some of them are born there and they will die there too. The environment is quite bad and don’t look like they are well taken care of. Honestly, it looks like someone’s private collection of animals.

A sad place, a zoo with no pretense to be anything but a display for human amusement, and little regard for conservation or animal welfare. In keeping with what I have seen of other zoos in Japan, but "behind" the values of more conservation-minded zoos in e.g. Australia and USA. There are some interesting reptiles, but displayed in very poor conditions and with little chance for a quality life.

I had a great time even though it's a small, smelly, and dirty zoo. My dog came and had a nice time playing with the animals. You can handle chicken, and touch a few other animals like lemur? Feed pigs and talk to the 50yo monkey grandpa.

Please do not support this place! Animals are all locked up in very tiny cages and enclosures, their eyes look so lifeless. I love Capybaras and capybara are generally very happy and social animals but they look so bored and “dead” in there with no warm bath. Huge turtles stuck in small glass display full with water, alligators in tiny enclosures not able to move or turn. Place looks poorly maintained too, doubt the care is there for the animals. Regretted going in, please do not make the same mistake as I did.

This is the saddest zoo I’ve ever been to. The place is run down and dirty. The animals look distressed and sad, being dead would be a better fate for them. The cages are tiny and the animals are living in their own waste. What a horrible experience. I don’t know how a place with such disregard for the animals’ quality of life is allowed to operate. Truly left feeling hopeless and heartbroken.

We chanced upon this place by looking at Google Maps while walking around Kusatsu. This is a real treasure though the naming is an exaggeration. This is a small local zoo, very well kept and in an interesting dome. The layout makes the most of the space with a winding path that takes you through all the animals. The animal variety is unusual: there are a bunch of crocodiles of different varieties, lots of turtles, snakes and lizards. In addition to these, a family of capybaras, monkeys, a sloth and a piggy as well as fancy parrots. Outside, monkeys playing in the snow as well as goats, sheep and lamas. The animals are all clean and in good health. Going through the zoo costs 1100 JPY for each adult and it takes about 1h. We were super happy afterwards. We recommend visiting without reservations.

What an amazing zoo!! You can see lots of rare animals/ reptiles here. And you can even interact with/ touch some of them! Tho the facilities are a bit old, I can see that the staff are paying great effort in taking care of the animals. They wrote detailed descriptions and drew cute pictures about the animals. I had a good time here indeed!

(Translated by Google) According to HP, it is a private business, and the number of customers has decreased due to corona, so it seems that the operation is in a pinch, so I have dropped money while feeding and purchasing souvenirs. To be honest, I think there are facilities where you can come in contact with various creatures even if you are not Kusatsu, but I enjoyed it so much. You can see monkey mountains, rabbits, sheep and llamas outside, and inside the building you will find reptiles, birds, capybaras and small animals. I went there in December, but it was hot inside for me, who was sweaty. You can walk from Yubatake, and there is a shop famous for gelato on the way, so I think it is worth visiting if you are sightseeing without a car.

This place looks like a call of duty map that somebody who hates animals turned into a zoo. Animals kept in tiny, barren, rusting enclosures, many without a single rock or plant to break up the monotony. Open plastic bins of chicks and hamsters in the "petting zoo" with no oversight from staff (in fact, I didn't see a single member of staff the whole time I was there). Honestly baffling that this place is legally allowed to operate.

(Translated by Google) It is a zoo with a Showa feel that is full of handmade feeling. In the past, it seems that the Akishinomiya family also visited, and there were pictures. I walked on a snowy road from the inn (Tajimaya near the bus terminal), but personally it was not a painful distance. The inside of the building where tropical animals and plants are bred was hot. The explanation of the animals was also written by the keeper, which was more interesting than the pictorial explanation. At the same time, I sympathized with the animals in the small breeding environment. You can experience Doctor Fish at no additional charge. I think that many people put alcohol or hand cream on their hands, so wash them off before experiencing. Management seems to be difficult due to the passage of time and the influence of corona. It seems that we are accepting the insertion of vegetables, fruits, etc., so you may be pleased if you bring it with you. The Tropical Wonderland has a lot of different animals to offer. On the one hand, it's nice to get up close to such rare animals, but it also has its downsides and makes you sad when you see how desolate the animals have it. For the most part, these animals are crammed into cages or terrariums that are far too small. With the snakes, for example, there is little opportunity to hide or climb around on a thicker branch because there is nothing in the terrarium. You throw some religious donations on the windows of the snakes, but you don't use it to make their interior at least a little prettier. It was no different with the Capibaras either. There was even another cage inside an enclosure where two of them were locked in it. The birds and small monkeys were basically in cages that were far too small and had little opportunity to occupy themselves with things that served as toys in the cage. It's just sad to see something like that. It could be better, especially for the animals. Of course, there is a lot of work behind all of this, and the zookeepers are probably doing their best every day. But Tropical Wonderland needs improvement.

It's a very interesting zoo. Explanations about each animal's characteristics and their memories are funny and informative. Most of the cages are small for the animals. Thoug it was nice to read that some of the animals are not taken from nature directly but saved from illegal trades etc. Recommend to visit.

I don’t usually post reviews but this experience disturbed me to my core. Such beautiful animals looked depressed and dirty, confined to cages. There was one who kept gnawing at the wall in some sort of distress… right next a dirty small container stuffed full of Baby Chicks as some sort of petting zoo. I was there for about 35 mins and neither zookeeper nor visitors really seemed to care. I cannot believe this place exists, let alone in Japan where standards are so high - yet everyone there was having such a good time (the 4 star reviews speak for itself). How? How are locals okay with this? I don’t know what else to say. Apparently these animals are “rescued” but you have to wonder if this state of living is any measure better. Don’t visit here unless you want your trip to be ruined.

(Translated by Google) I visited Kusatsu Onsen for the first time in a while. A lot of crocodile and other reptiles. You can see and interact with various creatures living in the tropical region, such as birds, bats, monkeys and vegetation. It's a small facility and a dome, but it's made in a lot of ways. Worth a visit once. You can stay longer than you expected.

(Translated by Google) A tropical garden in a hot spring area? Even if you don't think you are interested in reptiles, I recommend you to go there for the time being. You can touch and see creatures that are rare in Japan. The commentary is also polite and interesting, and there are many creatures on display. It wasn't that big, but I noticed it was three and a half hours. I don't really care about the age of the facility. You can also have the doctor fish eat your body. In Tokyo, there was a time limit and it was free to pay 1500 yen.

I think that people who like plants can also enjoy it if there is a display and explanation of the name of the plant. (Translated by Google) This is recommended for both children and adults. The fee was 1100 yen for adults. I thought it was expensive, but it was worth 11 more! What's more, there is a free parking lot near Yubatake! There were hundreds of rare creatures such as reptiles and mammals, parrots, parakeets and owls. You can also touch hamsters and rabbits. The monkey gesture of Saruyama is quite funny. Food for animals is sold in the park. By all means, please buy food for animals and tropical gardens and feed them.

(Translated by Google) The exhibition is easy to understand and the explanation is interesting. It was good to touch the animals even under the corona. I installed it in a place where I wash my hands, but when I saw the household washroom, I felt the company's efforts, and I had good infection control measures. I learned about reptiles, which I was not very interested in until now. Thank you very much. (Translated by Google) There was such a facility in Kusatsu! I was surprised with. There are roughly three facilities, but the one I would especially like to recommend is the dome at the back. You can see the animals that live in the tropics, but in addition to that, the personal data of the animals in each space and the episodes when breeding are written, and it was very interesting to read. If you like animals, please stop by when you visit Kusatsu. (Translated by Google) I went in early February! It was really fun! The handmade feeling was good, and there were many children who were accustomed to the animals, probably because it was an old facility. Everyone was active and the service spirit was amazing! Some children touch through the fence, so I want to bring my body to the place I want to touch and touch it here. And it was too cute to have a pleasant face! Management seems to be difficult in Corona, but I hope you will continue to do your best. If you are in the area you should visit. the variety and chance for direct animal interaction that you rarely experience now make it worth the visit.
