My father was a patient in May and June. A few of the hospital nurses were compassionate and caring. As for the rest, if stopping treatment on an 80 year old man is acceptable just because he’s 80, there is something seriously wrong with our health care system. If isolation with double restraints in a dark room is acceptable because the nurses cannot handle a man with altered mental status, then this is where your loved ones should be. If your loved one is not being fed and loses 100 lbs in a month because the staff say “ oh he was sleeping” for 2 or more meals, then this is where you want your loved one to be. If your loved one is supposed to be on honey thickened liquids due to aspiration and there is a doctors order to do so but the nurse give him thin liquids through a straw because he makes a mess, then this is where your loved one should be. If you want your loved one to have horrendous bed sores from being his own waste for hours, then this is where your loved one should be. When a man says “they don’t take good care of me here” even when his mental status is altered, you should listen and not take your loved ones here for expected good care. Because you won’t receive it. The only time my father was treated with dignity, was when he died at the hands of some of the caregivers. They placed a flag over his body and the staff lined up along the corridor to show respect for a veteran that served this country without reservation or prejudice. Unlike the prejudice he was shown because of being an inconvenience due to his age! Again if you really love your family member, please do not take them to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Standard ER, packed solid front and back, plan on spending forever here. My 73 y/o mother has been here for 7 hours so far. I've been to ERs at VA hospitals in Indianapolis, Phoenix and Chicago and have never waited more than a about 3 hours. She finished testing 6 hours ago, 7pm, still sitting in the same wheelchair at 1am with no end in sight. They will not tell you anything while waiting. I can't think of any place other than jail where you are treated like this.

The best people working there are the nurse aides. The nurses did not pay much attention overall. The security still gave my husband a hard time after I had been admitted for 3 weeks. The head of security had a bad power trip. He brought 3 guards to my room to inform me my husband can't visit. 3 weeks in the hospital and he fepels he needs to backup his threat with 3 guards. Funny but it did really upset me that there was such a lack of compassion. The nurse aides deserve a 5 star. Everything else is negative. Well below negative.

5 stars and would give ten if it were possible. I had to bring my special needs daughter in to be seen for cardiac issues. This staff tonight was truly amazing, beyond compassionate, and top notch. We were in amazing care from the time we stepped into the emergency room. Dr. Lee was so informative. Nurse Tatiana (not sure if I spelt that correctly) was so on her game that I was thoroughly impressed. Shout out to Miguel for the extra hands on. The amazing gentleman who did my daughter's x-rays, the ladies who helped check us in, the staff who helped us in every area of the hospital that we had to address was just so gentle with her that we were at ease not long after coming in feeling completely helpless. Huge shout-out to the entire staff, I hope they are being paid well for all their duties here. ♥️

terrible hospitality. nurses and aides and everyone else who came in our room, i think 8 different ppl? they were all rude and passive aggressive. they just wanted us to leave, no kindness, no feelings towards our concerns or pain , nothing. these people are lazy, with no heart, and no work ethic. floor is filled with young women, who are picture perfect immature high school preppy girls. i don’t think i saw one person over 25. a pathetic excuse for a hospital , and pathetic care. never recommended to anyone and definitely sharing our experiences. no one should feel like they are inconveniencing people right after they have surgery. we were on floor 2 WEST.

I had a amazing experience at St Mary where I gave birth to my first child. The labor and delivery nurses surpassed my expectations! They were caring, compassionate, informative, and overall just fantastic nurses. My labor didn’t go as planned but dealing with some adversity was much easier with the care I was receiving. I will always be forever grateful for my Doctor (Dr. Dunlap-Wright) and the following labor and delivery nurses; Bella, Amber, Olivia, Christina, Jenn, and Meghan.

The first visit took forever to actually get my mom in. Then it was like she wasn't a person but a number. With our concerns (myself and sister), they really didn't listen. After a couple tests, they were releasing her. We were shocked 😲. I tried again to ask the doctor if she had suffered a stroke and in passing she yells out no. Before I could ask her anything else she was gone. The nurse came in with her discharge papers and said she had fractured some ribs (when fell in the driveway). Don't let her do anything, no heavy lifting etc... My mom was dead in a week. 🥺 A lot happened within a total of two weeks, to much to write out. But I would not recommend this hospital!! 🤬

Absolutely worst hospital ever. The staff and doctors are wonderful, but the hospital itself is a disgrace to it's namesake. They will charge you an absolute ridiculous amount for any service, and if you can't afford it, they will NOT allow you to pay less than a certain amount per month. If you don't get on a payment plan and try to pay what you can monthly, they will send it to collections. I was billed $1600 for a simple injection. Even after insurance I'm left with a $750 bill for something that barely helped me at all and I'm already struggling. I will never come here again.

I just had the unfortunate experience of spending a few miserable hours in the ER at St Marys. I arrived by ambulance after sustaining a fall resulting in fractured arm and head injury. I was never placed on a cot in the ER.(until right before discharge) They put me in a wheelchair, gave IV pain medicine and sent me to waiting room with my family members. I'm a retired ICU nurse, so I know pts need to be monitored after receiving pain med , esp via IV route. The ER doc didn't perform a neuro exam even though I clearly already had a huge hematoma on my face and black eye. The medics had already splinted my arm and the ER doc exam consisted of feeling for a radial pulse. I fully expected to be admitted for ortho surgery and observation for head injury. Xrays confirmed complicated elbow fracture and fractured orbital bone. I was discharged home and told to follow up w ortho in 2 days!! Are you kidding me?? They put a new splint on before discharge, and I was in agony. My arm was floppy like a noodle! Dr and nurse acted like I was drug seeking for wanting IV pain med instead of the pill they offered me prior to procedure. I did not feel any slight amount of empathy or sympathy from these people. No one had the decency to introduce themselves by name or address me by name. One of the nurses kept calling calling me "honey" which is condescending. ER doc was rude and didn't like being questioned questioned about his medical decisions. I was lucky to see a fine ortho surgeon the next day and and am recovering after surgery. I'll never go back to St marys.

My dad recently had surgery here and the 3 doctors I encountered were AMAZING and helpful. Dr. Emley, who performed the surgery, was/is attentive, caring, and thorough. Dr. Perlmutter was super chill and laid back (when we were a bit stressed out) so we appreciate him as well. When we had to return to the E.R. for further care, the staff actually listened (and therefore understood) the situation, which made our time there more productive. Dr. Gross in the E.R. was extremely helpful and the nurse helping us in the E.R. (maybe it was Julie?) was patient and kind. I appreciate the helpful and kind staff at St. Mary’s. THANK YOU!

If I could give no stars I would. My dad was brought here by ambulance, he was throwing up super weak pale and lots of pain. They made him sit in the waiting room for over 4 HOURS throwing up. They kept bringing in people that came in after us back and they would leave and so forth. My mom kept asking what the hell is going on and they said they take people with less serious issues first to push them out faster. There was 3 other older people who sat over 5 hours. The nurses were super rude. One guy actually passed out. Come to find out my dad had a blockage in his small intestine and had to have surgery. So if you want your loved ones to die, then this is your place to go to.

I was admitted to st. Mary's on Jan, 11-2022. I had covid/pnumonia and given a 5% chance of living.with a trach down my throat I deteriorated to the point of no strength and my ability to work was gone. I was transferred to rehab after 2wks in icu and IMCU. My Dr's and nurses and cna's where wonderful no complaints with anyone. Although I know I was a handful. After being transferred I was immediately taken to start bringing back what I lost, so thank you everyone in rehab. The CNA,'S where so patient and kind. And the rehab people a big thank you for getting me to walk again you where all so patient and kind.I am now walking with a cane and hopefully will be walking with no devices to help me. Thank you all.

I have always had a good experience while at St Mary’s. My sister delivered her baby and had excellent care. My other sister, who hasn’t felt well for weeks, came here after another hospital couldn’t find anything wrong with her. We had to wait a while because the ER was very busy, but we got a diagnosis and took the proper steps to treat her. Dr. Delpiccolo was the absolute best surgeon I will be recommending him to everyone! Thank you St Mary’s you have the best hospital workers!

A few friends finally convinced me to post this but this is one of the worst hospitals I’ve ever been to. Last year, end of march and into april I was having very very bad pains in my stomach area to the point where i was throwing up from pain so I went to this hospital only to find out my gallbladder was inflamed, I was released with just medication that didn’t work and told if i’m still in pain to come back so I did about a week later. They told me the same thing and just released me but told me to stay on the same medication. Then the next week i had to go back because the pain was unbearable and I was just done then they finally took me seriously and admitted me for an EMERGENCY surgery for my gallbladder to be removed, makes me questioned why they waited so long. The night I was admitted I was given potassium with little to no solvent by a nurse and was crying in pain once more but my nurse did take her sweet time getting to me, I understand if she was busy. After my surgery I was unable to even sit up slightly in my hospital bed due to internal bleeding but one of the doctors refused to believe that I was in pain until she witnessed it herself but still tried to talk about my discharge so yet again I had to go into another surgery which wasn’t too bad. Then I was discharged and everything was good, still having pain but i brushed it off due to the surgery but the pain didn’t subside so finally I went to a different hospital and immediately got my problem solved within only a few hours instead of a month. This was very unprofessional and I really hate to write this but with all these other negative reviews I also thought I should voice my experience as well. All my nurses were beyond amazing besides the one I had on the night I was admitted, just maybe take peoples problems more seriously .

If I could write this with a negative 1 star, I would. The ambulance brought my husband into the ER a little after 10:15am with a B/P 238/118, severe headache. They did lab work, CT scan of the brain, sent him back to the waiting room, without giving him anything for the B/P. It's crowded, but after 4 .5 hours,no one has given him anything for his B/p.hours, I . After 5 hours of being afraid he could have a stroke, I go back to the window, to be told they couldn't find him in the computer, then the Dr calls my husband, apologize for not getting him medicine, and that's been 1.5 hours ago. I once again asked, they said they don't have enough nurse to give him the medicine. I told him I'm a Nurse, I'll even give it. Being an RN, I understand acuity, but this is dangerous! Unfortunately, I'm going to have to take my husband somewhere else. I am a Director of Nursing, now I understand what my patients are saying about this hospital.

Worst hospital in the area; and trust me, as a caregiver, I’ve been to pretty much every one in Northwest Indiana. They give terrible patient care. A family member of mine was on the 4th floor (cancer care) for days and when I was allowed to briefly visit, every pillow he had was on the floor, his catheter bag was completely full, and a nurse hadn't been in to see him in hours despite his call light being on. Avoid this place. His assigned charge nurse on this floor was flippant and rude when I attempted to have my concerns addressed. I will never again let any family member be admitted to this second rate dumpster fire of a hospital again. ALSO: Their ICU department is run piss poorly and the ICU staff I mostly dealt with have no business working in healthcare in any capacity. They’re way out of line with their attitudes and clearly don’t have thick enough skin or the mental capacity to handle an INTENSIVE care unit. You should be ashamed…no idea how the health department hasn’t shut this place down. I don’t know how anyone working here would allow themselves or their own family to get treated here as they clearly know how firsthand terrible this place is…

I have been reading some of the comments and some have had bad experiences here but in my situation I give St. Mary's 5 stars. They impressed my hubby & I. On August 18th, I brought my hubby to the wound clinic on the 3rd floor and the receptionist was very friendly, polite and informative. Upon getting on the 3rd floor we checked in with receptionist and she too was friendly, polite and helpful. Yes, we were for almost 2 hours but Mary, the nurse was very friendly, talkative, professional, attentive and informative. She really went over and beyond in taking care of my hubby. And the NP, Christine she was also very polite, friendly and professional. Also, my hubby really enjoyed the cafeteria. We had lasagna with bread sticks and a drink for almost $12 bucks. The food was really good and a reasonable price. Final thought, with today with everything being so expensive and bad experiences as in people being rude it is very refreshing to still know that in crazy world and society that there's still good caring, compassionate people who still take pride in giving their best. Thank you for a wonderful experience and believe me when I say that St. Mary's is much better than Southlake Methodist Hospital. The only positive parts there are the doctors, nurses, nurses aides everyone except for the case workers or social workers they were UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE and LAZY. but St. Mary really impressed us thank you!

My grandmother was taken here by ambulance. Our family was 15 min behind. When we got into the ER waiting room, the ambulance had left her there in a wheelchair with her clothes half off (it is winter). Not one of the St. Mary's staff came out to help. There were at least 5 other elderly people waiting that got zero attention. One elder walked out saying she had waited several hours already. Once my grandmother was finally in a room, we left for a few hours. When we came back, her door was shut, the room was dark. She had a urinary accident and was sitting in wet sheets without any blankets and was shivering. The nurses had just ignored her and she was left disoriented, sitting in urine, freezing cold. This place is completely neglectful and we will never set foot in this hospital again.

My dad is in and out of this hospital and each stay has been a total cluster. No one can find the nurse assigned to him when he needs pain meds and no one will help him. When the nurse finally comes in, her excuse is she's not from this floor, has no friends on this floor, so she has no one she can ask to help her. Help HER? How about helping the patient?

Today my daughter was sent to ER for trying to overdose on pills. She was either released or ran out the hospital. I called to tell them that someone picked her up and my daughter is hallucinating. The ER nurse stated she cannot tell me anything. I was not asking about her medical information. I asked if I brought her back with these conditions would they let her leave under these conditions again. I been on hold for 30 mins. This morning I called the hospital social worker to make them aware what has been happening and I needed help. To please call me. I have yet to speak with someone. I’m not sure what if going on but I feel helpless when the people you think would help and listen don’t.

Wonderful hospital, they have an excellent cardiology team and provided good care to me and my family every time I have been here. Recently I had to bring a family member to the Er for a cardiac emergency and the doctors and nurses were kind and as prompt as they could be considering they are working in an ER, which can not be an easy job. I know we weren’t the only patients there and we certainly weren’t even the sickest patients in the ER that day but we received good care and consideration from the team.

I went to the Er yesterday Saturday January 21,2023 with excruciating pain in my head. The staff was extremely caring & compassionate. They took me directly to a room(I did not sit in pain in the waiting room) They were very knowledgeable after starting an IV running blood test performing x-ray & CT scan on my head it was determined I had a severe allergic reaction.I was discharged only after I displayed relief. Im thankful & grateful for the entire staff. Its Sunday & I feel 100% better.. Thanks St.Mary Medical Team🤗

Absolutely the worst ER in the area. Doctor diagnosis my son with a book said he had ring worm. He wrote up a prescription for that of a 250lb male adult. Luckily I caught it at the Pharmacy and talked it over with the Pharmacist she said if I gave that to my son it would have destroyed his kidneys. Now today my wife has to go to this place do to her insurance tie with this organization having chest pains and they make her sit in the lobby for 4 hours until she finally had to walk out. Pretty sure every hospital In this country is to treat a patient that is there for chest pains immediately with at least giving her asprin and checking her vitals.

3 times I have had my fiance in the ER and they have placed him in the waiting room for 3-6 hours. Once with Heart issues, kidney failure, breathing problems. Second time he fell straight back hit head and ER sent him home after just getting out of hospital 24 hours before the fall. On the 3rd time he was brought from dialysis having issues breathing by ambulance. They placed him in the waiting room, didn't hook up his oxygen till I called them on my way to hospital. Sat him in the waiting for hours without checking to see if his breathing was okay. I went up to them and told them he was out of oxygen and it took them 7 minutes to get him a new tank which when you are lacking air seems like forever. I wouldn't take my worst enemy to this place. I know we won't be back here again. We don't call ambulances only to be put into a waiting room for hours.

I grew up in a Catholic family, church every Sunday, breakfast afterwards. Novena every year. I even held the Virgin Marys ribbon. So here's my story. I have 5 children and I'm married to a man who we found out last year has bladder cancer. Also my youngest daughter has autism. I started working here in February 2023. I started working and everything in my life was good. So within a month my husband got extremely ill and we found his cancer was back. So he was outta work dealing with that. I was working but having to take care of my family and work was a little stressful so I had to call off a few times in which I totally understand that it looks horrible on my part but also can't help what happens to family. I started to rack up points. I did my best. I got hurt at work I hurt my foot and told my boss. Took all the proper steps that I should have. I noticed she was starting not to like me. I read people pretty well. So I lied to my doc to come back to work. So I could plz her. Then a month later during the time I was working I hurt my foot again but was scared to tell her. So I texted my team lead n let her know in which she said to relax, I told my evening manager n he said to take Motrin. So been working with a hurt foot, sick husband, high functioning autistic child and a relentless job. So instead of trying to help n find a solution so I didn't have to call off anymore. This catholic hospital fired me 6 days away from 120 days which was my probation period. I asked them if I could go to midnights cuz they had openings they wouldn't even consider it. I fully understand about calling off n points but I guess I held St.Marys to a higher standard. In the middle of this a girl started working here n her first week she called off 5 times and did a no no show n she still has her job. Another employee has over 20 points n is still employed. So my last call off March 2 n they knew that they were gonna fire me but had me work because we had so many call offs so they waited until the 14th n when no one called off. I always grew up thinking that if ur Catholic u should a good person n help n donate n help people find solutions for problems but realized it should everybody. It's not ok for managers to pick n choose who they want to help n who they don't. WITH THAT SAID I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT JUST BECAUSE ST.MARYS IS A CATHOLIC HOSPITAL DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE CATHOLIC EMPLOYEES OR DECENT MANAGERS EVEN IF ITS JUST HOUSEKEEPING. I WORKED MY BUTT OFF FOR THEM. THEY LET ME DOWN N IM NOT THE ONLY ONE. I also found out that my attendance was not why they fired me. It's because they HEARD I got another job offer. I finally got my life situated n I got fired. So NOW MY HUSBAND IS ILL, MY DAUGHTER HAS AUTISM, MY SON HAS MENTAL ISSUES, N I HAVE NO JOB TO KEEP MY FAMILY IN A HOME OR PAY BILLS. SO THANK YOU ST.MARYS FOR NOT TRYING TO HELP N JUST GIVING ME THE BOOT. ITS THE MOST CATHOLIC THING THE HOSPITAL HAS DONE 👍 THANK FROM MY FAMILY. I'm starting to think that the housekeeping manager is racist or prejudice against white people.

My baby has been in the NICU for going on 11 days now and they have been awesome. Especially the Labor and Delivery floor. Fantastic nurses, you and your baby will be in awesome hands. I had to have a c-section and even the staff that was in the room was Fantastic!! After 8pm you have to go through security in order to come back to the NICU and even they have been awesome :) Shout out to Jen, Bella, Megan, Marla and Tami who all have been amazing and awesome!

I’m very disappointed in this facility. My grandpa was in there for 2 weeks in IMCU. I am in the medical field as a nurse and I can tell you there were multiple errors just on being careless. On the first night he was in there, they did a procedure but neglected to give him a medication which resulted in his blood pressure to drop to the point where he nearly coded.. and nobody came in the room while this was happening my grandma went to the nurses station and they were all sitting there.. aren’t you supposed to see their vitals at the nurses station and be alerted? You would think. They messed up his kidneys not giving him the right meds, it took days to get them back to normal, that could’ve been avoided. There was horrible miscommunication the whole time.. a nurse would tell us 1 thing, and another one would say they didn’t know. The didn’t put the bed alarm on so he fell trying to get up. He was also in severe pain and they told us it was because they think they hit something wrong during the procedure. They didn’t give him therapy and just kicked him out last minute to a nursing home… they’re already calling us regarding money.. I am beyond disgusted.

I needed to go into the ER and almost didn’t come in because of the reviews. Idk if they are old or what but my experience COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER. THE best care in ER I have seen in YEARS. While discussing my treatment with a family member they shared that they also had a wonderful experience. In short I will only be coming to St. Mary’s from now on. Everyone was wonderful. Great job!! 5 stars from me.

Sleep lab: Has sleep number beds so you can adjust the firm/soft to your comfort. Very clean, prefer to have the temperature at 68 degrees to sleep--only went down to 70 degrees--oh well it was a hospital. Be prepared to have the glue to attach the electrodes to monitor you sleep in your hair and skin. I you don't shower there--shared shower---1 shower to 4 rooms. Bring a hat to cover your newly designed hairstyle.

I came to the hospital with extensive pain. Though the ER is always busy, the staff at the ER were in the best interest of me and truly cared for me. My nurse was compassionate and Dr. Rutilli was attentive to my concerns and thought out my care plan until I can get to my scheduled oral surgeon.

The Valpo Center for the tests my doctor ordered is outstanding--EVERYONE is professional and cordial, allaying any fears one might have. My experience with Nora for a CT scan is an excellent example. The waiting area is like an upscale hotel's lobby, an unexpected lagniappe

ER was ok. However hubby came back fr test being done. I had to call the nurse to tell them to hook him back up. Incase he needed them & was unable to call for help. Not fun if you think he's having a stroke or heart problem. The rest of the staff was good. The food was kinda ok. Breakfast was better then lunch. God bless them for all good work they do!
