We came here because our favorite sushi spot was under construction. What a mistake. Upon entering the restaurant, we were waiting to be seated by the hostess, which we didn’t mind the wait. What bothered me was the cashier giving me a dirty look. I thought that he’d at least greet us or say hello but no, just a low unpleasant stare. Then the hostess finally spoke to us. She wasn’t friendly either. We were seated at a smaller table with no plates, eating utensils, nothing. We had to request a pen from our waiter to mark the sushi rolls we ordered. When our appetizer came out, again we had no plates to eat on or utensils. I felt like a savage. Even the menus were still left on our table. Then the sushi came. Sushi rolls were pretty mediocre at best. The rice was over cooked so our rolls were mushy and bigger than the average bite size. Our waiter was nice but he didn’t come by much, probably because the restaurant had him working a large portion of the section alone. He seemed to be having a lot of anxiety because he was always rushing and lacked eye contact. The worst part was when we got the check. Our total come out to $125 and somehow they accidentally charged the poor couple next to us our tab. They had to pay them back in cash. That to me was very unprofessional. The sushi wasn’t worth $125 and that didn’t even include the tip, which bumped the total to $140. We are never coming back here again. What a waste of money for terrible service, unfriendly staff, and mushy sushi.

This is our new favorite place. For sushi, we found the prices to be reasonable! It was about what we usually end up paying for sushi anywhere, but the atmosphere was wonderful! The service was so good! The sushi was the freshest I've had from around here and we go to a lot of sushi places.

My recent visit to the supposed high-end Kyoto restaurant, Hoffman Estates, was disappointing. The sushi chef couldn't identify the type of giant clam. Anyway, I ordered it for sashimi, and it was excessively fishy, prompting me to quickly spit it out – a clear indication that it wasn't sashimi or sushi-grade quality. Additionally, the shrimp with golden sauce, unlike the website photo, was drenched in poured sauce, covering the entire plate like a pizza and leaving an overwhelming amount of excess oil. To compound the disappointment, the bartender was unfamiliar with the term "martini extra dry, no vermouth" and poured extra vermouth. Overall, the experience fell well below the expected standards for a high-end establishment.

This place was amazing. We came here for my partners birthdays. The service and food was fantastic. We did hibachi and ordered sushi (you have to ask for sushi menu). There was complimentary ice cream at the end. Enough food to fill us and to take home leftovers. We will definitely be back!

Kyoto is a great place to bring your family for a nice treat. I wanted to have the hibachi experience, but they had a limit of at least 4 people to do it. That was disappointing... anyways, we had to be seated in a different table. We ended up just having sushi rolls.

Very disaapointing!! Came with a group of 8 people for my husband's birthday and sat at the grill. My daughter in law had never been to a Japanese steak house before so she was excited. Our chef didn't do any of the typical tricks like lighting the onion volcano on fire (we had to ask him) toss food into people's mouths or toss the egg in his hat. We kept telling him it was her 1st time so she wanted to see the whole show. Our soup came out and we barely started to eat it when our salads came out. They were rushing us to finish everything. A girl took our 1 drink order but never asked again and we had to ask people to get us more drinks. 4 out of the eight people ordered filet mignon and 2 others ordered regular steak. Our chef mixed all of the steaks up which was not cool especially since people wanted their straks cooked differently. After he was done cooking nobody ever came back to our table and we sat for a long time wanting more drinks and expecting a dish of ice cream. We finally asked if someone was going to bring us a bill and they acted very surprised and then my friend asked about the ice cream and they asked her if we ever got it and she said no so she offered to get it but we said no too late now because we also wanted another round of drinks. They brought our bill which was $680...we could have totally walked out and the restaurant probably wouldn't have noticed...they are lucky we are are all good honest people! We've been here before and have loved it but will think twice about it next time.

This is an American Japanese restaurant, probably good for parties. Not real Japanese food(I do have pretty high standards for Japanese food), therefore three stars. Food was just average. Pricy. I expect better food with this price.

Ordered from here few times before and it was ok but this order was bad all around. Fried rice had maybe whole 5 bites of chicken in it that were dried to crisp. Sushi when in soy paper shouldn't be cut so thin that you need spoon to eat it otherwise falls apart and lastly the Salmon/tuna ponzu was off, didn't smell or look right ,it was old. Wasted money.

delicious food (sushi / rolls), the quality of the food is good, you don't have to wait long ... 15-20 minutes considering that this is an average portion - is normal. good style , nice to the eye, eat and enjoy the architecture and design of oriental origin 🙂👏🏻👍🏻

It was my first time here tonight and I absolutely loved it all. From staff to food, pure 10/10. My waitress Alyssa was amazing and I give my compliments to the chef and the bartender who made my pear martini. I will be back very very soon!

Great location with plenty of parking. Beautiful outdoor space in front of restaurant. It is very zen with little koi fish swimming about. Spacious inside or sit outside in patio. Come for sushi bar, steak or sit down at a Hibachi table. First time here & will definitely come back. Our Teppanyaki chef was Jay. He was entertaining, friendly, funny & a great chef. The food he prepared was delicious!

Nothing was amazing to rave about. The hibachi experience was certainly underwhelming. Expected much more action from the chef. Except for one big fire, nothing fancy. Have certainly seen much better. Food was very ordinary. Sushi was usual. They have a printed photo of the family on the end which was a nice touch

This was our first time here and we absolutely loved it! Very good atmosphere, nice ambient music and comfortable interiors. Food was outstanding! I ordered spicy dinner entree for $26 that comes with miso soup and salad. Everything was so fresh and very tasty! The salad dressing was just something unbelievable and I had to hold myself from drinking and slurping it all! Very welcoming personnel and very good service. This is my new favorite Japanese restaurant for sure. I’m coming back to try hibachi!

Food was delicious atmosphere was excellent. When you don’t seat at the grill they give you way more food. I got the hibachi steak and chicken. Gave me a little shrimp on the side for free .

Probably one of the best Japanese Restaurants I've been to in a long time. My Mom enjoyed it as well. The Filet was so tender and the Golden Shrimp was excellent. Will be going back again soon.

Very authentic and professional restaurant. Had to change our reservation and they worked with me, no problem. The hibachi was excellent and the chef was skilled. I would definitely return.

5 star restaurant *********** Excellent food, high quality, large portions, great great service. This place truly should go to be a large chain. Benihana or Ron of Japan is NO match to Kyoto

It was nice but inconsistent. Some tables were more fun than others because the cooks were more entertaining. There was a lot of food on the floor. Steak was over cooked and they forgot we had a birthday at our table. I can't deny the food is good but I will not choose to have hibachi here again.

Great experience at Kyoto. We typically don't go to Kyoto for Sushi- just the cooking tables. Last night we decided to try Kyoto for sushi and it was fantastic. Great food and excellent service from Eric. We sat outside and brought our dog with us. We will definately be regular customers!!

Came to Kyoto for the first time for my niece's bday. Had such a great time! Our chef was so much fun! Very entertaining and engaging! Food was also amazing! Had my first French martini and it did not disappoint!

The food was very delicious and the Chef was very good as well. Unfortunately, this time the service to the table was very poor. One of our party members waited an excessively long time for a drink that was ordered. The rest of the party got their drinks. Also, this time our water glasses were not refilled at or maybe just once at the most.

The food was very good. We started with a golden shrimp appetizer which was incredible. I've never seen anything like it before. Then we ate sushi, steak, and chicken. Tendor, full of flavor, and absolutely wonderful.

Quality food, noticed cut backs on vegetables, half the portions of before. Fried rice , scarce vegetables added and chef didnt season it enough. Dont like the automatic 20 percent tip added, waiter was bare minimum.

We have eaten at Kyoto many many times over the years. Always a "go too" place. Very good food. Even ordered frequently to help keep them going during pandemic. Tonight we go as we could not agree on a place and we go to here. They sneaky raised prices as much as 20.00 per plate. The menu scan clearly states 49.00 for Hibachi Filet and Lobster which we shared and bill says 66.00. Gently complained to deaf ears on younger server and another. Owner never came over and they started taking down the QR code menus. NEVER WILL GO BACK........Just left after waiting. BE CAREFUL THEY HAVE MULTIPLE MENUS

Very quiet and peaceful. Service was alright even though it wasn't busy as it was really empty except for two other tables and us. The rolls were fresh and delicious. The soy sauce was a little confusing as we think the low sodium one is in the clay container while the regular is in the normal bottle. Menu was a little confusing too as it didn't tell you how much you would be getting with each order as some we got a good amount and some was maybe four to one piece.

Food, Chef and Waiter were all outstanding. The Chef kept super cool and funny for even the hardest most difficult customer of all time (not us) Portions were huge, fresh and delicious. Very pleasing décor and atmosphere. Bartender Kevin was awesome too! I will be back again and again.

Ordered take out sushi for the first time from here. When I picked it up, interior looked really nice. Food though was not good at all. Every piece we picked up would easily unwrap, taste was not good, and definitely not worth it for the price we paid. Definitely not coming back here.

Great service, very good sushi, steak, and spicy garlic shrimp. Good beer and sake selection as well. A great spot for a special occasion. A bit pricey however, our party of 4 was still hungry after spending $200+ here.
