One of the interesting landmarks in the city centre of Hokitika is the Town Clock located in the roundabout intersection of Weld and Sewell Streets. This monument clock tower was erected in 1903 and serves as a memorial to the Westland dispatch of 130 mean who participated in the South African "Boer" War (1899-1902). It is a simple structure supported by four pillars. Clocks are embedded into each of the tower sides and the monument has an iron ornamental top and bell. You'll find plaques on the pillar bases with information related to the Hokitika Town Clock. You can walk over to the centre of the roundabout to read about the monument and take pictures up close.

A striking landmark in Hokitika is the Hokitika Clock Tower. Its first name was Westland War Memorial and Coronation and War Memorial. It has been part of the national cultural heritage since 1989. Inaugurated in 1903, the memorial is intended to pay tribute to the region's contribution to the Second Boer War. The monument is 11.4 m high. The clock tower with clock and bell stands on four pillars, each with two inscribed panels in the lower area.

Quaint town on our way south. Lovely walk with lots jade shops and carvings. The clock tower was a nice center piece to the CBD.
