The hall itself is so interesting with the wonderful spiral staircases. The gardens were absolutely beautiful with colourful rhododendrons and a magnificent laburnum arch. The staff in the reception area were very friendly and welcoming. We missed seeing some of the house so plan on returning soon as we live locally.

A lovely visit to a fantastic house now unfortunately a shell of its past former glory. It must have been fabulous in its heyday before central Hall was destroyed by fire. The national trust have done an excellent job in restoring some of the areas inside house, especially the spiral staircases at each side of main hall. Definitely worth a visit.

Had a trip up from North Yorkshire to visit this lovely National Trust Property on a sunny but very windy day. Don’t let the extensive renovation works going on (due to be finished early 2021) there is still plenty to see. The gardens are stunning and the old hall is amazing. Gutted by fire in the 1800’s except for 2 rooms which had their oak doors shut during the fire, it has been made safe but left completely open to the roof. It’s an amazing view when you enter. There’s a complete restoration going on of the west wing, vast works in the gardens to the rear, a new cafe and visitor shop and entrance too. I expect when complete it will be fantastic. On the web page on the National Trust site there is some walks from the hall available to print off which we did and followed a great 10 mile walk (joins 2 walks together) from the property taking in a great stretch along the dunes on the beach to Seaton Sluice. A great day out. Wise to check web for opening times as only open Thurs-Sun at the moment.

So this is the third time I have been to this place. It's a photographers dream, you could spend many hours here. Not only is the main building and side buildings stunning but the grounds hold many photo opportunities as well as views of the surrounding area. For the price of a £10 ticket (adult) it would be silly to pass up. Since my last visit the basement has had its floor refurbished making it much easier to walk around without all the dirt kicking up. There are also various art exhibits dotted around the place which makes for some interesting views.

Loved visiting this place. There are very knowledgeable guides throughout the building that are very willing to share some of the amazing stories about Francis Blake Delaval. The cafe is fab, and we can personally recommend the summer berries flapjack and the nutty carrot cake. We visited the hall in November, so we mainly stayed in the house, though we are planning on visiting again in the warmer months to fully appreciate the gardens.

Whilst damaged, this NT property is not to be overlooked. We spent a nice time there and was impressed by the quality of art displayed. I fell in love with the vases, the colours and the concepts. They have an upside down room that is a great attraction for children and also the game - please play the game, is such a fun experience, specially for children. The building is very well kept and so are the grounds. The were a lot of fun activities for children and there is also a playground somewhere around the back. Lastly, the mirror sphere, such an interesting concept. NT volunteers, grateful as always for their help and support, very kind and knowledgeable.

Well worth a visit to this magnificent building in a lovely setting. Access is allowed to most of the building that has plenty of corridors and rooms to explore with some quirky scenes such as an upside down room based on stories about the Delaval family's sense of humour. Look out for a replica of the tallest wig you'll ever see! Plenty of parking and toilet facilities. The cafe is pleasant with inside and outside seating although the lunch menu is a bit limited. Consider taking a picnic as a better alternative.

A wonderful place to visit on a lovely sunny day. The gardens were spectacular! I really enjoyed wandering around, enjoying the scents from all directions. I enjoyed coffee and the best fruit scone with clotted cream and black currant jam while waiting for the house to open at 11am. Despite the renovations taking place there was loads to see, including the basement servants quarters and West Wing. Volunteer Pat was full of information upstairs, as well as the lovely lady downstairs. Thank you both! Highly recommend a visit. Thank you National Trust!

As usual, national trust properties are lovely. This one is undergoing some fairly major conservation/renovation, so some areas are closed while they carry out the work. Gardens are amazing, with nice walks around the grounds.

Another dog friendly gem! The only place dogs aren’t allowed is in the house itself, but there is lots to explore in the grounds and gardens. There is even a large part of the cafe which is dog friendly. We had a lovely time exploring this place, with lots of different paths to walk around, secret gardens to find and beautiful flowers to admire. We even got to go into the very old (Saxon) church which is full of history/ interesting facts. Definitely value for money (£10 per adult, no car parking charge). All the kids seemed to be loving this place too, with lots of lawn games to play and just generally a great exciting atmosphere.

Fascinating back-story to this amazing property was brought to life by an extremely knowledgeable staff member. We only called in as we passed unplanned but spent a good amount of time looking around. Gardens are great too.

Had a really good time here, lovely gardens and house to see and explore. National Trust experts on hand to answer any questions you might have. Some interesting mirrors in the lovely gardens. Great cafe with nice Earl Grey tea, decaf coffee nice and a good range of cakes, sandwiches and hot items. The church is only accessible at the weekends so we couldn't get in to see it unfortunately.

Excellent place! We really enjoyed visiting Seaton Delaval Hall. The staff and volunteers were great and very helpful. We enjoyed exploring the Hall and gardens, particularly the collections which were well contextualised. The volunteer we spoke to in the hall really brought the space to life for us. The cafe is very nice, a bit on the pricey side, but very nice and good quality. We spent a whole afternoon here and it was well worth the entrance fee.

Lovely national trust day out, we enjoy spending a few hours here, the hall is interesting to look around and has parts the children can be involved in such as looking through the keyholes of the rooms, the upside down room and theatre area. The grounds are great for a run around, there was ball games out that the children could play with which they really enjoyed. There is a playground area on site, not as big as some of the other national trust sites in the area, but enough the the kids to run around and let off some steam. The car park was full when we arrived so it was busy but once inside the grounds it didn't feel overcrowded.

Lovely National Trust property. House is impressive as you approach it. The staff are friendly and provide you with a very fancy map of the property and grounds. They run tours which unfortunately I missed but they sounded very good. The history of the hall was very interesting and the family who first lived there seemed like a lively bunch. I didn’t explore the grounds too much as it was raining heavily on and off whilst there but will definitely be going back to explore more. The cafe was lovely and had a few vegan options on the menu.

Considering I lived in the North East for over 20 years I never managed to visit this place until now. It’s quite impressive. It’s a partly derelict property caused by fire in the dim and distant past but the main hall is still impressive and there are two wings (only one of which is accessible) that are intact. There is no furniture to speak of. The garden are good and an probably the main attraction as they are large and immaculate. There is, obviously, a cafe which is very good. There is no shop which is a shame as I like my fridge magnets 😂. Is this worth a social trip? No. However if you’re in the area the.n it’s worth a visit.

What an experience!! A lovely place that is so well maintained, so beautiful. Sweet little cafe that serves lovely food, beautiful gardens and the hall itself is such an enticing place to visit. Even has horses 🐎 Playground for the little ones so they can burn that energy a bit more, beautiful plants to buy at the checkout. A lovely place for a pleasant n informative visit.

Great NT property in a good location with lots of parking. They have a lovely cafe with hot and cold food plus cakes etc. House is lovely but unfurnished for most of the rooms. A few of the upper rooms have some paintings and furniture. Lovely grounds and lots of space for picnics and with play areas for children. The formal gardens are very nice and well presented. Only £10 to get in and free for members as usual.

This is an interesting place, the gardens have got lots of potential with a lovely layout but unfortunately they are not in the best of state. There is a lot of weeds everywhere and most grass areas need mowing to a higher standard. There is some lovely colour, especially in the parterre. The house is in the process of being done up after a fire many years ago. Some rooms are finished but the great hall has a way to go.

Looks grand on the outside but the grounds don't really match the expectations you may have. Inside is a place of 2 halves. A weird sort of shell alongside a normal stately home part. There was a free walk and the guides were really interesting to talk to and knowledgeable. There's a playground for children, toliets, free parking and a cafe

First visit here yesterday after living in the North East all my life. An amazing place, well kept and a few spooky things on for Halloween 🎃. Grounds and gardens well kept, some unusual artefacts in the house, and a beautiful place steeped in history. Don't forget a little visit to the church in the grounds too.....

  • 5/5 David B. 2 months ago on Google • 41 reviews New
Doesn't open until 11am. 10am opening is for the gardens and cafe only. Nice place to walk around and the restoration of the main building is impressive. Main building has a basement but no floors above the ground, so they're 3 story high rooms. The lighting and art work is great. Following through to look through key holes and at the stage is great too. I imagine going in the height of spring and summer to see the most of the gardens will be great

  • 5/5 Adam S. 1 year ago on Google
Now this place is seriously pretty but not at all serious. My favourite was the upside down room. The gardens are beautiful and you could definitely enjoy a picnic here. There’s also free outdoor game sets if you fancy a bit of badminton and some lovely walks to be had.

  • 5/5 Keith B. 2 years ago on Google
Nice quiet place to visit very kid friendly with a little park in the trees and wide open fields to play on. Also loads of places to picnic or a lovely cafe to visit. Very scenic and definitely worth a second look.

  • 4/5 KIM C. 1 year ago on Google
Play area seemed a bit wobbly, maybe there were too many children on it. The grounds were lovely. The outside of the building was very impressive and the inside is improving all the time. The staff were nice. Plenty of parking. We will definitely be back

Beyond amazing!! 💯 percent worth a visit. We all enjoyed the day here. There is so much to do and see. The stage was fun, and the upside down room was hilarious. There's even strange noises happening in the bedroom when you walk on the wooden floor, hahahah . We laughed all day here. So much history made fun . The staff were so good . I honestly can't rate this enough . Fantastic family day out !

Lovely old hall, full of history and built in a lovely location, not far from the coast. The gardens are lovely for a walk round and there is a lovely cafe, good prices and delicious cakes and scones with friendly service. Car park on site.

Loved it lots to see and do inside and out. Gardens are beautiful. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cafe reasonable and lots of choice, also plenty of picnic benches dotted around to take your own. Can't wait to visit again.

Lovely building with Central hall which they are trying to restore after a fire. Still plenty of rooms to see and a lovely natural park for the kids to play on.

  • 5/5 Fleur C. 11 months ago on Google
One of my favourite places. Loads to see and do - I would recommend visiting the hall one day and the grounds another to really take it in. The brewhouse cafe is a lovely new addition too. Had the vegan friendly chilli and it was delicious. Bought some books about the hall which made for an interesting read. Looking forward to getting a pass so I can visit regularly. Updated to say we attended the bat night which I highly recommend!

  • 5/5 Roy C. 9 months ago on Google
Brilliant! Batsballs provided so kids can enjoy themselves. The house is fascinating, lots of original paintings. The storage area for furniture and paintings holds lots of treasures that you never get to see close up in other places. Don't miss the Upside down room upstairs. Gardens worth a visit, and also the Beautiful church from 1120.

  • 5/5 Polly W. 9 months ago on Google
Such an interesting property, and well worth a visit. The main all suffered an all consuming fire which has left a really interesting bare interior. It must have been absolutely devastating. There'd still plenty to see and wander round, and a real must is to envisage this family, they loved the theatre, pranks and extravaganze... don't miss the upside down room!! Or the lower cellars area. Outside there are stables and living areas, again all very interesting, with numerous household exhibits to see. The gardens are worth a walk around, beautifully worked and seating to sit and take in our lovely countryside. Plenty of motorhome friendly parking. Little shop/plants/books/toilets/Cafe. Knowledge staff & volunteers. We went just before the school summer hols, there must have been 5 or 6 school parties there, but all were great and the property is plenty big enough to share, great to see young people showing an interest- it's usually us silver haired folk wandering round !!!!

After many many years of passing this beautiful historic building, I eventually got a suprise invite to visit here from my daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren ages 8 and 6....We took our own picnic food, although there is a lovely cafe on site. The building itself is very interesting with lots of nooks and crannies(which I love) which kept me busy and happily interested... I would have loved to see a bit more signs that explain the history of each room, but I guess it leaves more to the imagination 😁.... Overall a beautiful place to go for a day trip, ample parking, toilets, and caters for disabled people so easy to get around... I did see some motorbility bikes, so I think they might hire these out which could be handy!.. There was plenty set up play areas for the children in different spots so it was easy to move around and never get bored. Grounds are beautiful too with a field full of horses... I recommend a family day trip... I will most definitely be going back for another look. 😁

  • 5/5 John J. 8 months ago on Google
Lots to do for families here since the refurb. They have sports equipment on the grass out the back for you to use such as footballs, hoops etc. There's also a play Park near the front which is pretty reasonably sized. The cafe on site is nice and the prices are expected tbh. Well worth a visit if you've not been before.

  • 4/5 Graeme N. 7 months ago on Google
Bank Holiday when we went so it was busy but not so far as to ruin the experience. It is dog friendly with water bowls dotted about the place. Can't take dogs inside as you would expect but you can in St Mary's church at the bottom of the garden.

Visited on an open-day where it was FOC, passed the place a few times and always thought it was a Grand looking place. Surprisingly large inside with a few levels upstairs and even basement access. Also there is large and well maintained gardens to walk around.

  • 5/5 Imogen M. 4 months ago on Google • 5 reviews
We were a bit spoilt, as there weren't many others there. An impressive, imposing and beautiful building despite being so badly damaged by fire. We enjoyed wandering through the different areas of property and learning about the family history. It's lovely that the stables are still in use. The videos about various aspects of the restoration were fascinating. The coffee and food in the cafe were very good.

  • 5/5 Jennifer K. 3 years ago on Google
Lovely part of the national trust world. One of the smaller grounds but constantly changing with new things being added all the time. Perfect for a morning out with the kids for an explore. Staff lovely as always, grounds, cafe and toilets always exceptionally clean.

Fantastic staff, go and speak to the lady at the coffee shop even under lockdown 2.0 she is an amazing person and brightens up sad times....so is the tomato and red pepper soup mind delicious along with everything else....oh so are the grounds which are still under construction in some areas.... with the massive renovation work and a new play area for children in the far right end of the grounds its getting better and better!

Grounds were a little bare due to it being November and Hall not open so very little to do. Added bonus was our walk through Holywell dene to Seaton Sluice which is a must.

  • 5/5 James W. 3 years ago on Google
It's always great to get out and about and seeing how they're upgrading the hall and grounds. The National Trust have changed the layout to accommodate social distancing and there are reminders everywhere to stay 2mtrs apart. There's a coffee shop selling it's wares through a window. A lovely place to visit anytime through the year.

  • 5/5 Andrew R. 3 years ago on Google
A great attraction well managed, as always, by the National Trust. The hall is currently undergoing extensive renovations but that doesn't detract from the beauty, history and overall experience of the place. The guide's are very knowledgeable in its history and as well as the separately run chapel providing a great insight in how it used to be. Will definitely be returning when the renovations have been completed as this will be a must visit place for all family.

Well...! Booked online...said hall was open....for there and doing 8 million pound restoration...scaffolding everywhere....so what did we not see....the hall house....just saw a stable which you could walk through in 30 seconds...oh forgot the cafe window as you cannot go inside....we also saw a few bushes in garden...highlight of hall was nymphs on wall where builders had put high vis jackets.....what a waste of £8 pounds...could have parked cheaper than that in seaton itself....best part of seaton the walk along back to Blyth and back...no charge there then.

After searching around to find a National Trust that was open and travelling over to visit, was very very disappointed to find the hall closed. So it turned out to be just a very expensive car park! Nothing here worth the £8.

Gardens are lovely and new features being installed, plenty of picnic tables dotted about and lovely grassed areas for kids to play. We went as a family of 4 (2 young children) and we all enjoyed it. Was great to see the progress on the buildings, and had a peek through the windows. It's a decent day out now (with social distancing measures in place), so I'm excited to come back when more is open.

Amazing place, we have visited in summer and Autumn. They have just installed a lovely park for the kids too. You could do a full day in the summer and maybe half in colder months as no long walks like other NT properties. A visit to Arrighi's ice cream parlour on the way home is a must. X

Although we live close we have never taken the opportunity to visit. The grounds were well maintained and much bigger than expected. The staff were very friendly and our oldest loved the play area and hiding in the trees. The coffee shop is still open for take away and there was many families who had taken their own picnic.
