I don't think there's a better way to explain EcoMarine than friends turned family. We found the dive shop on Google when looking for a place that offered smaller, more personal classes and they came with exceptional reviews. Our Open Water course (3 students) was punctuated by a tropical storm, a cold and a classmate with different learning needs and each situation was handled with professionalism and kindness. There wasn’t any time where we felt like our instructor, Ricardo, was pressuring us to rush ahead with classes or not putting our wellbeing as his first priority. It was a no brainer for us to move forward into the Advanced course (class was just the 2 of us) and we weren't surprised that our next instructor, David was another complete professional. He communicated with Ricardo to make sure we were ready and it was pretty amazing to see how much we had improved since we first arrived, especially with our neutral buoyancy and general confidence in the water. This is not a dive shop that simply churns out certification after certification. You can tell that every single team member loves what they do and they want you to fall in love with scuba as well! Every single dive of ours, instructed or fun, over our three week stay was fantastic! They also care deeply about the environment and work hard to teach practices that will help our ocean and earth last. The seahorses (and all of the other amazing wildlife) living under the dock are an added bonus! If you land on Utila and haven't chosen your shop, find EcoMarine on the dock and have them take you for a visit. (They won't be the ones in your face, pressuring a sale.) We can't wait to come back to visit and explore the Utila underwater world even more! Ricardo, David, Chris, Julie, Aldo, Danny, Gustavo, Leanne and Ray - thank you!! We love you EcoMarine!

Gunter's Ecomarine Dive Center is a very good choice to learn how to scuba dive or go fun diving. The staff is highly professional and friendly, the equipment is in a very good shape and they have a cozy lounge with a bar where you can read a book, chill and or meet new people.

During our stay at Utila we did our open water and advanced course at Ecomarine. Wonderful people work and walk around here. Ecomarine was one of the first dive schools on this island so it has a lot of experience, good equipment and amazing dive instructors!!! During our stay we dove with dive instructor David. An amazing guy with a lot of experience in diving. He teaches with a lot of patience and joy! Everything; the boat, the equipment, the staff and the dive spots felt so safe! We also dove at an other dive center and now we know that the equipment at Ecomarine is the best you can get!!! Besides that we learned a lot while diving we had also so much fun during our dives doing tricks and seeing lots of cool stuff. These people know what they are doing and they will take care of you from the moment you arrive till the moment you will leave. Ecomarine also has a nice dock and a couple of hammocks where you can chill and drink some beers at their bar. There are lots of activities during the week like movie nights, barbecues and maybe they organize a trip to the Cays . And there really live seahorses under the dock. When we came here we were a little bit disappointed about the accommodation. A small kitchen and small dorms, but after all it didn’t really matter. We actually got some new cooking equipement and the dorms are clean just as the kitchen which got cleaned every day. It really felt like a family and because we didn’t wanted to leave this place we stayed longer than we expected. In the last week we went a couple of times to the north side. With captain Charlie as a animal spotter we saw and swam with dolphins and Whale Sharks. I had the best time of my life here. I miss you already guys and I will definitely come back!

Diving with ecomarine is an experience you will not find somewhere else. If it is not for the instructors and their enthusiasm, captain Charlie who shows you all the wildlife, the good equipment and how safe we felt, it is the best place to go to for all the beautiful people. I will never forget the people I met here, everybody cares for each other and I really felt at home. The weeks we spend here felt like only a few days in an other world. Thank you so much for everything you learned me ecomarine, we will be back!

I enjoyed diving and staying at the ecomarine dive shop. The shop is relatively small, which enables the divers to get to know the staff and the other divers. We had a couple BBQs on the docks and many beautiful nights watching the sun set and the moon rise. The dive sites were spectacular and the divemasters meticulous and thorough, making diving easy and enjoyable.

As people say this dive school is truly amazing, mainly so because of the kindness and cheer of the people who work there. Finding the right balance between being laid back and a dedication to safe & quality diving and education, this smaller, but charming school (built out completely over the water) can be a pleasant relief on Útila -where things can easily get loud and boisterous- , their smaller scale and relaxed, but serious attitude will make any good natured diver feel like home.

Awesome dive shop, it was like coming home. Very familiar vibes with BBQ every week, water cay trips, house partys with instructors. Got my divemasters here and i loved all of the amazing people here. Lovley Ray even lent me some money to get home as my card was lost. Ten outa ten 🙏🙏

Top dive shop for lionfish hunting. Small dive shop means small boats. None of that cattle herding you find with other shops. Great staff!
