👍👍 I’ve been to many Maya ruins in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize but this is one of the most beautiful. Must see even if you feel sick of ruins after traveling though Central America. This one is different. You will see many well preserved stelae as well as the longest known Mayan inscription on a stair... People often mention ruins,

I’ve been to many Maya ruins in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize but this is one of the most beautiful. Must see even if you feel sick of ruins after traveling though Central America. This one is different. You will see many well preserved stelae as well as the longest known Mayan inscription on a staircase. And not many tourists around.

Cost $15 for foreigners. This does not include a guide or information on the ruins. It's literally just to view and look at the ruins. Tickets stop selling at 4. The place closes at 5. Also I went on a Monday afternoon after 3pm and it wasn't packed.

Easy to get tickets and there are guides available. Our guide spoke perfect English and was very informed in the ruins.

BE VERY CAREFUL that you come here and not the town of Copan Ruinas. The same name, but it has no icon for tourism, no icon at all. And google won't even take you to the middle of the town, just some spot with no people on a rocky hilly road that my sedan could not climb. I tried 6 times but I was spinning my wheels on the rocks. Another car, actual Hondurans, was right behind me. The wife was also looking at google maps. They made it through and back to the main road only because he had 4-wheel drive. I had to turn around, got to the actual ruinas 45-minutes late. So 5 stars for the ruins but 1 or 2 starts for google for getting me in that mess. Not sure whether or not I damaged the rental.

While the ruins were interesting, it was hard to enjoy because they had chained parrots up st the entrance who were squealing in discomfort, some were missing feathers and looked very sick. It's animal cruelty and gives a bad impression of Honduras.
