Interesting part of history of HK. They show case the history of the Museum and details of diseases outbreak in HK. Their exhibit down the basement is more than a little creepy especially if alone. Anyone who has watched American Horror Story: Asylum will know what I mean haha. There is also a room which you can’t enter but there’s a clear window you can peer through and see what’s inside(still not creepy?) Adults will find it more interesting, young kids will most likely be bored out of their minds here. It’s worth the $20HKD entry fee.

A very historical and beautiful heritage building constructed in 1906. The museum offers many exhibitions related to human biology, history about the Plague in 1894, the history and achievement of the former Pathological Institute, and display of a number of medical apparatus and Chinese medicine herbs. They are very informative and academic. However, to my disappointment, the exhibits I would like to see were not on display. There are many items which could not be shown either because the space is insufficient. This is my first time to this place. I wish the balcony on the second floor could be open to the public in the future.

Finding details of opening days and hours online was easy, so we made sure to find the well-hidden place when we could get in. It was not to be. One sign on the (closed and locked) gate gave those same hours. Another sign said Closed. It provided a phone number (not able to get through) and a bell to ring (not working). Two men with suitcases came out, so we asked, through the gate. They said "cleaning" and laughed. Ha ha, not funny, so one star only. Go at your own risk.

An excellent place to visit if you’re interested in history and medicine. There are many interactive devices that teach and give some quizes. There are also games that are educational and very fun to play. I played one game that makes you run and teaches you about the area. You can learn about old chinese medicine and some old medical contraptions. The lady at the front was also very nice. It’s not a big museum, make sure you don’t miss the hidden basement exhibit. We almost did. LOL

Located not far away from man mo temple, and hosting much of the colonial and local medical history of HK. The building is a lovely old colonial structure and rather fittingly the old pathological centre. Inside apart from the charms of the old buildings are choice elements from the museum gallery displaid. The galleries are largely thematic. There are notable displays on plague including a very realistic plague rat laboratory, vaccines and their production and a wonderful Chinese medicine shop complete with choice herbs. There is also a little garden well worth a visit, which I recall as containing medicinal herbs. There are occasional displays that are well worth attending.

Translation of first paragraph (in Chinese) was different to that of English version : This trituration equipment was placed at this Vaccine Laboratory (at Caine Lane) before 1973. During 1973-1982, this equipment was placed at immunology Institute (at 800 Victoria Road, now repurposed as a Food Safety Laboratory for pesticide and veterinary drug residue analysis).

Interesting place but it seems like their main. Premiss was to show case the plague that occured. It is a good place if you want to learn about that but in general there is not a lot of information about the history of Hong Kong medical system. They do have some very cool display and the building it self is quite unique for the area. Recommend checking it out if you have time.

A small building but is a historical one. Has a lot of interesting exhibitions worth looking at. There's also a historical chart from the 17th century outling some of the collaborations between the British and Chinese on medical advancement as well as plagues and major disease outbreaks that Hong Kong has lived through and survived.

Got there when it opened. People were very nice and it was great learning the history of medicines, plague and their founders and being in the building where so many great things happened. It was also nice to learn about Chinese herbal medicines and learn about them.

It's a historic building and you can feel the mood of Old Hong Kong. It's not big but it's an interesting exhibition. I feel like I'm in a hospital in the past.

(Translated by Google) A very educational museum. The pavilion is not too big, but the sparrows are small and well-organized, allowing visitors to learn more about the history of medical development in Hong Kong. The museum also has regular lectures, such as Chinese herbal medicine guides, colonial architectural style lectures, etc. are impressive. Outside the pavilion is a small park where children can discharge after the tour.

Location was out of the way with many hills and stairs to negotiate before arriving to the museum. The museum was small but packed with posters and writings about the history of medicine in Hong Kong. The second floor did not add much to the experience and the basement was kind of spooky with the model of the cow and surgical instruments.

Definitely worth visiting there if you are eager to learn the history of medical science! Back then the building itself was designed as a Bacteriological Institute and renamed to Pathological Institute after WWII.

(Translated by Google) The building is actually worthy of staying low. Once the building is in good condition, the second line should have a place to commemorate the return of a catastrophic plague in Hong Kong. However, there are many historical and cultural relics in the museum. The information on the plague is also very detailed.

Hong Kong Museum of Medical Science is a interesting museum which give you a brief information about the disease. The entrance fee of the museum for adult is $20. Not much interactive exhibition in this museum, kids maybe bored. And the museum is not that big and it only take you about 2hrs to finish. And don't forget there is a basement to visit. The building of this museum looks nice

The museum gives an in-depth history from the start of medicine in Hong Kong and its services. Well documented and plenty of exhibition rooms. One is welcomed by very friendly staff. Great outing for a rainy day. Admission fee is charged.

Some interesting video exhibits eg on how viruses and vaccines work, and also about the history of plague in the area. Some exhibits about e.g. the medical devices they have on display could use more structure

The museum building was previously used for a government bacteriological institute in the beginning of 20th century, and was the first and only one in Hong Kong institute that could make vaccine in Hong Kong. It was a good to experience and learned the history of the plague in Hong Kong that boke out in 1894, as well as the hsitory of our medical development. The museum is compact but it's not crowded and you can easily spend an hour in there.

One of the specialty museums that you can visit in Hong Kong is the Museum of Medical Sciences (HK$20 per adult, HK$10 per child) located in the old Pathological Institute building on Caine Lane, near Blake Park. At the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Services you can find 11 galleries, which serve the purpose of spurring interest in the community for past medical feats, the interface of Chinese and Western medicine and the Hong Kong Medical field in general. The building itself is of Edwardian architectural style and was built in 1906. This historical monument was the first purpose-built medical laboratory in Hong Kong and was built near the site of the famous Tai Ping Shan plague outbreak of the late 19th and early 20th century. Of the 11 galleries, the most interesting include the old laboratory and the small radiology display (interesting x-rays of clubbed feet) on the upstairs floor and the Chinese medicine shop exhibition in the basement. There is also a temporary exhibition: The Use of Herbs in Chinese and Western Medicine (June 2013 - March 2014) that offers some interesting displays and information on the ground floor. Overall, this is a nice little collection and tells an interesting story about the history of medical practice in Hong Kong. The museum is most suitable for local residents with an interest in thow world of medicine, diseases and medical practice in general relate to local history. Tip: The Museum of Medical Sciences is also part of The Taipingshan Medical Heritage Trail that takes you through the Tai Ping Shan district, where the plagues terrorized the local populace. The Museum of Medical Science is the first stop on this 1.5-2 hour self walking tour and you can pick up maps for the walk at the museum. Tip: There is another museum not far away dedicated to Dr. Sun Yat-sen, with a focus his life and time in Hong Kong, located 5-6 minutes walk away back up on the main Caine Road. Tip: The museum is a bit tricky to find if you are unfamiliar with the streets of the area. You need to find Caine Lane, not Caine Road. There are purple and blue signs pointing the way to the museum. It is a 3-4 minute walk behind the Man Mo Temple area on Hollywood Road.

A very old building housed the medical museum. Exhibition materials are very old, also covering some history of epidemic control during the early years of the territory. The location of the museum is far from ease of access by public transport.

The location of the museum is a quite accessible spot, since it's not far from the mtr station. The museum is not as big as the others, so it can get crowded easily. But other than that, the museum itself is organised pretty well, considering it was built a few decades ago. There are quite a few exhibits about medical topics from the olden times that show useful information for studies. The museum was fine overall, and it displayed many relevant historical facts. There is lots of information about certain topics, but one of the things that scared me was the x-ray of the deformed foot, due to the ancient Chinese practice, foot binding. On the second floor, there were two VERY human-like mannequins that also gave me a slight jumpscare as I walked in. In that same room, much information about the plague was displayed for us to see. There were old microscopes, and lab tools that were pretty cool. On the ground floor, there is a human mannequin, and you can use the stick beside it to look at body parts like the arm, torso, etc. The mannequin detects where the stick is, and shows which part you are pointing at. Quite interesting. The other exhibits, such as the ones for childbirth, etc, are organised and put together very well. Topics can be easily understood, since it is displayed neatly. There are interactive games as well that may interest younger audiences. I would recommend this museum to people who are interested in medical sciences, and history. Though I would not recommend this to children, because some of the stuff is harder to understand, and youngsters might lose interest quickly. In conclusion, this museum is worth it, but not a must if you are just going on a trip to hong kong. However, if you are interested in medical stuff, this museum will be fun for you.
