Milk Tea is the Real Deal Honest unbiased opinion from Canadian-born Asian Guy This is basically an older Hong Kong style cafe and for comparison it’d be like an American diner. So you have to come in with reasonable expectations. It’s by no means fine dining or the prettiest of places but you will get the experience of a legitimate Hong Kong cafe style meal. The Milk Tea is reason enough to come here. The gentlemen in the sleeveless shirt takes his job seriously and puts out a delicious cup of tea. You can get it hot or cold and I generally enjoy the cold one as it’s a nice refreshment on a warm day. Coming here for the first time though I opted for the original hot milk tea. Add sugar to suit your own personal taste. I’m not affected by caffeine so I can’t comment on the strength of the tea but the “tea taste” is strong. Milk teas that I have had at other shops have sometimes tasted watered down. That is not the case here. I found the servers friendly and they chatted with us in Cantonese. Some of them have their quirks and may come off as rude but Cantonese can sometimes sound like an angry language. But this adds to the genuine HK cafe experience and not unlike some of the interesting characters that reside at any diner.

We got the milk tea with ice. The tea was smooth, had the distinctive bitterness and milkiness and was very refreshing. However, both noodle dishes were average. The chicken was dry and under-seasoned. The noodles with the green chive dressing was good as it was chewy and savoury. The price of the food and drinks were also pretty high.

The famous milk tea place. I found it too creamy, masking the tea taste. There is the golden after taste, but minimal. For $25 HKD (around $4 CAD), it's not really worth it. But, tried it once, but not again.

This place has been on my visit list for a long time, since I saw this restaurant on Anthony's Bourdain show "The Layover". I was wondering how this spongey french toast will taste like...and guys I'm telling you it's absolutely delicious! Sweet and savoury at the same time...just perfect. It's so good that on my 3 days trip to Hong Kong I've been there 2 times 🥰 I've also tried tomato soup with noodles and Chinese noodles with chicken, fried egg etc. Everything was really good 👍 definitely place worth to visit.

Fuss free and quick breakfast. Servers were very helpful and there’s an English menu. We were on the way to the lung fu shan morning trail and this was a good, convenient spot to eat before the hike.

Classic Hong Kong breakfast. Staff here is nice. Place is crowded. A bit of a tourist trap but ultimately the food is still great. Try the ramen noodles with satay beef. The French toast is great as well.

The milk tea here was so fragrance and tasty! Very different from the other stores selling milk tea. The famous pork shop burger was delicious too. French toast here was to die for. Gladly welcome by the friendly staff too! Even though price is little higher but the quality was great👌🏼👌🏼

It’s a must-visit restaurant. Located in Central. They make the traditional Hong Kong Style Milk Tea and serve lots of afternoon tea snacks. If you are a tourist this place should be on your list.

A Tourist Spot More Than a Local Hangout On November 4, 2023, I found myself nestled in the bustling environment of 蘭芳園, sharing an afternoon tea with a friend. Our order: two iced milk teas tailored to our preference for less sugar and ice, a simple chicken sandwich, and a cream-filled bun, a staple in any tea-time meal. The bill rounded up to HKD 101, a figure that left me slightly taken aback. The milk teas alone were marked at HKD 28 each, a price that I found steep for such a basic beverage. Speaking of the milk tea, it was disappointingly bland. The tea base lacked robustness, a crucial component that fell short of my expectations. One aspect that was impossible to overlook was the clientele demographic. A sea of tourists filled the space, while the presence of locals was notably missing. It appeared as though 蘭芳園 had transitioned more into a tourist hotspot rather than a favoured local haunt. The lacklustre service further dampened the experience. The staff was somewhat aloof and unresponsive, falling short of the welcoming and attentive service one would hope for. The word 'crowded' would be an understatement when describing the restaurant's ambience. The congestion did little to contribute to an enjoyable dining atmosphere. In summary, 蘭芳園 seems to be riding the waves of its tourist appeal, with high prices, subpar service, and a lack of authentic local ambience. If you're seeking a true, local dining experience, you might want to look elsewhere.

We ordered : - French toast : nothing to shout about actually - Pork chop bun : ooooo soooo goood. Pork was not dry; simple but so gooood 5/5 - Beef tongue bun : also another must ordered. Pretty thick cut of tongue meat and it's not tough. Cooked really well! 5/5 *it was pretty packed in the shop; you'll have to share same table with other people. But overall good experience. :)

Visited this place because it is famous, i was lucky that there is no line when I visited. But I don’t think it is worth it if you are far away or need to wait in long line for it. I ordered a thick toast with milk tea set. The toast is alright and milk tea is good. The store front is pretty unique and nice for picture but honestly there are many good restaurant that offer similar kind of food that you don’t have to specifically go to this one.

Favorite breakfast place with many HK style breakfast choices. Bread served is soft and fragrant. Also had the ding ding noodle which has a springy bite to it.

If you're coming here just for the food, expect to be slightly disappointed. It's slightly above average. It's not mind blowing but it's not terrible either. If you do come here, its all about the vibe, history and maybe nostalgia for old style HK street food. It's also abit of a tourist trap in itself. If you're here for the escalators as well, then 2 birds 1 stone.

For a typical char can teng, this is considered average. Food was served fast but not really warm. Buns didn’t have much taste and soggy (we ate it less than 10 minutes after it was served)… tbh, not really impressed.

One of the best breakfasts we had in HK. Had some French toasts on our trip but this one with the coconut spread inside was our favorite. Waiting lines are not too long as you will be seated wherever there is space, also with other people. Service was quick and efficient, there was also an English menu. Overall recommend this place:)

It’s a classic HK Cha chaan teng - I loved the french toast. You get to sit with other people which is new to foreigners, but it’s alright for me. I also like their milktea. Coming here i recommend going through the midlevels escalators, there is one exit in particular that will lead you to Lan Fon Yuen. On our first visit we tried walking uphill and it was crazy exhausting.

The place is very run down, which is fine, given that the average dish is around 60HKD, but the food is dreadful and the portions are incredibly small. I do not recommend eating here. The only thing that keeps me from giving this place a 1 star review is that the staff is actually very sweet and the milk tea was delicious. All in all, you can find a much better place with similar prices and better dishes with larger portions.

Food was really good! Very local flavors. Agree with other post that potions are rather small. It's been a snack and a meal. Service was very good considering it's a local Cha chan teng. They were all smiles. Atmosphere. It's actually clean for a local Cha chan teng standard. Decor is very old/historic and packed seating. But it is clean.

The place is good for breakfast, I can’t read or speak Cantonese so I just point the menu but surprisingly, all is good, the place is authentic and I really like the milk tea! The uncle and aunty is so friendly and helpful too even with the language barrier, love it!

I could eat here every single morning for the rest of my life, easy ahah. Actually all my friends coming to visit Taiwan and eventually having to leave HK and the glorious French toast behind just never stop talking about it either. Soooo good

It is one of the oldest HK-style local restaurants in Central. Quite enjoy having afternoon tea there eg the pork chop bun, particularly the milk tea which a must to try, while other food like the noodles is not so impressive.

Pork bun was a bit disappointing, but the toast and milk tea were great! They also had an english menu, which was super helpful!
