Obsessed with the views from this pillbox! The hike can be strenuous, the trail a bit dangerous in some parts, so go slow. For great views you don’t even need to hike to the pillbox - you’re already served at the first lookout / plateau. It’s windy and can get hot on the trail, so make sure you have water. There are no amenities here and parking is difficult.

A steep hike with lots of stops with breezes on the way to help! With stops the way up took about 25 minutes and had a similar time on the way down! Make sure to keep an eye on people above and below you as some areas can only fit 1 person. We also encountered many families who were familiar with the trail and helped us navigate the less sandy and “fall prone” areas!

As visitors we had a great time on this hike. Our 16yo loved it. Many great views, not just from the very top. We went to the 2nd pill box and wanted to go further, but we were too hungry! We are not frequent hikers and this was moderate for us but since it was short it wasn’t bad at all. Would go again and go further!

Easy hike along with great views most of the way! You’re basically hiking on a ridge overseeing the ocean. Definitely worth a visit.

Great hike! 10/10 would recommend. It wasn’t too terribly hard. The first few minutes are not fun but it gets better.

I Love doing this hike for sunrise. It has breathtaking panoramic views of the island and the Ko’olau mountain range. I would check weather to find out sunrise time and also the weather. It does rain a lot on this side of the island. When it rains the trail tends to get muddy and slippery. Some parts of the trail is steep. Parking is going to be limited and maybe restricted because it is in a subdivision with private homes, so carpooling is recommended.

When we went it started raining lightly on the way up but very heavily on the way down. The trail became so slippery we couldn’t move downwards unless we crawled backwards holding roots and fences and ropes. My 9 year old was freaking out about slipping all the way down and my son actually did slide down quite a bit. A helpful hiker pointed out that if you stand in the rivulets it’s less slippery, which is counterintuitive. We finally made it back down. As soon as we reached the bottom it stopped raining. I’ve heard it’s significantly easier when it’s dry. Later in the day we all felt we had quite and adventure and that we accomplished something. In many spots it felt like we were bouldering or rock climbing. Plus the views were gorgeous.

Beautiful lookout!! My favorite local hike. It's steep but the hike isn't very long. It can get super crowded so plan ahead.

👍👍 A popular gem on the island of Oahu. It's a bird sanctuary so you cam only explore the island on the fringes. There is a beach you can navigate to where you can leave your watercraft at. Sometimes there are hawaiian monk seals sun bathing. If there are keep a safe distance. During bird mating season...
