We stayed for 4 nights (yellow house). North Shore O'ahu is a great place to visit and contrasts the touristy feel of Waikiki. The location of Owen's Retreat is awesome - having the beach just a few steps from the door is an amazing experience. In all, it felt too expensive for the quality of the property. There are a few things that could be improved to make this a 5-star experience: 1. There are some essentials and niceties that are missing (e.g., coffee, shower mat, extra towels, water filter) 2. It would be great if snorkel and beach equipment like chairs were provided 3. Despite the steep price for staying here, guests are expected to clean the premises prior to leaving (including sweeping any and all sand that was tracked in) 4. The furniture arrangement is just not all that comfortable, and most things are mismatched Additionally, I want to provide some information that future guests may find useful: 1. There is no AC and only 1 (small) fan. It's very humid and warm during the day and early evenings 2. An airport is located across the road and the road is right next to the property. Vehicles and planes can be quite loud 3. There are wild chickens everywhere and they will wake you up starting around 5am. Bring ear plugs 4. The bathroom is small with little counter space. This was fine for just us ( a couple) but I imagine this might be a problem with a larger group All that said, we loved staying here and making it a home base to explore the north shore.

This place is pure bliss. The caretakers are very friendly and keep out of your hair but you know they are the if you need them for anything. It's a little gated community sort of place. 4 different cottages in the gated area. Close enough to all of them with out feeling like you are on top of each other. We're staying in the orange cottage. A little studio. It was perfect. Right on the beach and the beach stays pretty private. Not much else is around. In the comman area of all the cottages is a grill to use and laundry. It really is the perfect place to be out of touristy areas and just be laid back and enjoyable. We thank you so much for our stay. We have a few more days left and we don't want to go back home.

Pros: Location, location, location! Practically a Private beach Cons: Yellow House has an odd floor plan The house feels like privacy is lacking- the curtains are sheer and barely cover the windows Noisy (near an airport and busy road), there is no A/C so we had to keep the windows open but it was very noisy to keep them open, we bought a fan to help The expected Cleaning responsibilities made me feel like I had part of my vacation stolen No restocking of towels/ tp- must ask I think the lure of this property is definitely the location and beach vibe of the place. Great value but do not expect to have the same experience with amenities as a hotel. I would stay again, just maybe with my husband. I wouldn’t bring my whole family again.

Forget Waikiki, the North Shore is the place to stay! My wife and I stayed at Owen’s Retreat for 5 days and loved it. It’s quiet and the closest thing you’ll get to having your own private beach with a spectacular view of the ocean. If you love sea turtles, you’ll never get tired of seeing them daily in the water close in to the beach. The caretakers, who live on-site, are truly good people who will help make your stay an enjoyable one. Owen’s Retreat is a great option for a weekend or a week. Its location is unbeatable and with Haleiwa just down the road, there are plenty of shopping and dining experiences close at hand that bring their own special brand of North Shore Aloha to your stay.

We stayed here for 7 days. It is a great place to stay away from the crowed city. We saw sea turtles on the beach everyday along with the endangered MONK SEAL. What a great find, especially the ORANGE house talk about beach front........ We really enjoyed being the only 2 people on the beach most days. Update 6/21/18 Plans to see this place again in the fall of 2019!! We still talk of how much fun this place was.

Beautiful cottages, beautiful beach, a little pricey but it is HAWAII. Shout out to all the wonderful people there. Deedee, Lance, Ruben and Bernadette!🤙🫡❤️

Amazing place to stay! Came with friends & reserved the 4 beach houses on the property! Made wonderful memories! Will be back!

Stayed on the water property to get married. Got there late at night and there were roaches in the room and rust everywhere. No A/C and it was hot no matter what kind of an ocean breeze you had. Could not stay due to the roaches. The response was...It's Hawaii, we have bugs. Did not refund us. Had to leave and pack up at 9pm. Never again. Don't be fooled by the location because the insides are not ok.
