The hotel quoted one rate via an online reservation on their website (not a third party provider) and then gave me a different bill at checkout in the predawn hours while trying to get to the airport. They refused to honor the promised rate when I called them the following day, saying that they are unable to change a bill in their system after a guest has checked out. The service and accommodations were fine for the price and level of hotel overall, but noisy and no hot water in the shower or sink (6th floor) for several minutes (timed 5 min on one occasion). Staff friendly. Biggest frustration is the nefarious business practice and breach of trust with no recourse after they quoted a lower rate. I won't stay there again.

It's a relatively small hotel, in Honolulu terms, with a unique decor of horses and related themes, as expected by it's name. The rooms are okay, clean, with no view. The bed had a couple of foam mattresses on top of the regular mattress which is a bit odd. There is a small nice bar that also serves basics breakfast. Surprisingly, the only way to get into the hotel is to climb a long flight of stairs and lug your suitcase. I don't think it's possible for a wheelchair person to get in.

I am absolutely disgusted and disappointed in this hotel. The rooms are tiny, all the furniture was missing handles. The headboard to our bed was leaning nearly 45 degrees when we got to the room. All the furniture look like it came from goodwill with the damage and leaning of it all. There was dirt and grime ALL OVER the room and on the patio door, the toilet leaks when you flush it, shower is barely big enough for a person to wash themselves, the doorway in the bathroom is about half the width of a normal doorway, the pocket door to the bathroom was wedged open and extremely difficult to close. There is NO microwave, and no room darkening curtains, so youā€™ll be up early for sure. Thereā€™s no housekeeping/do not disturb sign, so every day we had the room service come knocking and they couldnā€™t hear us telling them no thank you and came in our room several days. The pool was CLOSED in July for repairs (but we still had to pay that resort fee for use of the pool), thereā€™s no elevator from the parking - which is also an additional fee - so you have to lug your bags up stairs to the bar lobby. Halfway through our trip the elevator broke so we have been going up and down the STAIRS from the 7th floor! The only positive things I have to say are the mattresses are comfortable, the staff was kind, and the location is great. To top it all off, the room was non-refundable. If I had been able to, I would have cancelled and gotten a refund when I saw the place and found another hotel on the spot.

What you pay, is what you get. I do not recommend this hotel if you are staying in Honolulu HI. It was a very filthy experience. We were at the reception and she started coughing on this towel. When it was time to hand my ID, she wiped her hand with the same towel she used to cough! Yuck. We walked into our hotel room and there was a putrid unknown smell. The shampoo bottle was stained with a grimy substance, the toilet wasn't flushed and it was overall a very dirty experience. Another discerning factor would be the parking space. We were charged with a fee of $30 for parking and there were very few limited spots. Although the photos on their page look nice; do not be fooled by appearance alone. Don't go to this hotel.

Google labels this as a 4 star hotel, this is not true. While I booked this hotel based off the many good reviews I find here. I myself did not have a good experience. We arrived and were able to check in appropriately only to find that our room was not cleaned properly. The staff went above and beyond to offer a second room immediately which was better but still could had some issues which were addressed. The biggest issue for us for the lack of sound proofing or sealed windows/balconies. All the rooms face the Ala Moana Boulevard where several cars and motorcycles will be racing during the day and even at night. Between Saturday and Monday I did not get one night of restful sleep. I had to use ear plugs. The staff did offer their best room with out any extra charge but informed me it will probably also have noise from the outside. I ended up checking out after 2 nights to another hotel. This hotel has a good and warm vibe, great location and very helpful staff (thank you Rene and Lincoln) but unfortunately, my experience was a deal breaker.

Thank you for a good time, Lincoln, Sandy, Dana and Stevie! I felt like I was at home with friends and had a great, relaxing experience here. The location is great for access to mall, city bus, art gallery and beaches nearby. Walked a bit (10 to 30min) depending on my choice of destinations, but I am used to doing this in the city, so to me, that's not far. Bed's comfy. I liked having the window door open most of the time to feel the breeze. I would like to see more local food options on the menu though at the bar ;) The cocktails are great!!! I will be back if I can! :D

Such friendly staff! Excellent bartenders, walking distance to the beach. Lincoln was so kind to let me check in early so I could rest after my flight. I recommend requesting the top floor for a better view, but I was happy on a lower level as I was only there for 2 nights. Ask the bartender for suggestions on local happy hours and activities. The bar area is comfy and I was offered a welcome drink on arrival which was a nice touch.

Loved this place and the staff!!! Awesome location, big clean rooms, big bed, balcony, close to the Marina and cool bars/restaurants in Marina Ɣrea are great. We walked down by marina and found super cool restaurants we would have never discovered. The little bar at entrance of hotel is charming, local, comfortable and convenient. Coffee also I believe. I absolutely recommend.

I donā€™t know how this hotel got so many good reviews. The rooms are small, the AC hardly works, and the parking is ridiculously small. I only gave this one star for the hardworking staff but as someone who is staying there right now I plan to leave tomorrow morning and find a better hotel.

We stayed 2 nights going to and returning from Sydney. The location and price were great . We had no car so parking not an issue . Yes, it felt dated but not a problem for short stay. What we so appreciated was the young man at reception who realized we'd stayed just weeks before, and who recognized our city's name. His grandmother lived in our community! He proceeded to give us our room at 9am. Much appreciated after the 10 hr flight from Sydney. We were able to nap and go about the rest of the day and night. Flew to US next day and 1st time having no jet lag. Thank you Equus!

Every member of the staff is helpful, kind and personable. Mr. Lincoln went above and beyond to accommodate my arrival and Mrs. Sandy is the physical manifestation of the Aloha spirit located at the guest amenity bar. This is not a purported 5 start hotel like the $1000 per night hotels across the street. In my opinion, this is a quaint boutique hotel situated on a 5 start hotel strip. It has a slow elevator but when it gets there, it faithfully takes you to your highly anticipated next adventure. Its decor is tropical and handmade and perfectly comfortable and cozy. The pool is small and empty but perfectly secluded and cozy. The bar is small but perfectly alive and cozy with smiling guests. There's no microwave but then again, we're not here to cook. If you are interested, however, the roomss are loaded with the traditional 5 start amenities such as fridges, balconies, dinnettes, television, a safe, hygiene condiments and the most insane locality to everything including an ABC market on the corner. They also have mobile app connected e-scooter rentals and more for you. I always prefer the boutiques over the big-brand conglomerate people grinder hotels. It's all about the personal touch and this place does just that.

Even though the elevator was not working properly the staff was VERY accommodating. Matt the bartender was super nice and very informative about which beaches to go to. All of the staff was amazing from valet to the ladies that checked us in. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfy. I would defiantly recommend this place and stay there again. Thank you for making our first time on the big island memorable and amazing.

The fact that this is listed as a 4-star hotel on Google is a joke. Having lived in Hawaii for some years now, I am very aware that you don't get the same quality as you might at on the mainland. But this was pretty rough. The room was dark, dirty, and very dated. All the bathroom fixtures were dated, covered in mineral deposits, and frankly just dirty. The towel hook was falling off. The grout was stained and dirty. You couldn't pay me to iron something on the provided ironing board. They also forgot to give us any shampoo. The walls looked like they hadn't been cleaned in ages, and many had mystery stains/stuff on them. TV was small. HVAC was a mini split that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. I didn't dare open it to look at the filter... As someone that does property maintenance, maybe I just notice these things more, but there were just a lot of blatantly sub-par things. I also know that many of these things could be fixed in 15-30min at pretty low cost, and would think that it would be in their best interest to do so. Overall the room was functional, and that's about it. Would put it on par with a 2-star hotel off a highway. The service was nice. Didn't have too much interaction, but the lady at the desk was nice, and the bartender as well. We stopped by the Paniolo on Sunday morning at 10 and we're told they weren't doing breakfast because they were baking muffins. They only have one oven/toaster combo. That was, well, pretty disappointing. I would think that they could invest in a second toaster. Or not have it in use at peak weekend brunch time. Coffee was also real disappointing. Can't say that I expect too much, they're a bar/cafe combo, not a nice coffee shop, but a decent latte would have made me feel a little better about the lack of breakfast. We did not venture in the pool, and honestly on first sight I thought it was out of commission because it looked very dirty. All in all, a very disappointing experience. I think at one time this was probably a nice hotel, but a consistent lack of maintenance and deep cleaning has turned it into a bit of a grungy place. If you get a good deal, and don't plan on spending time here other than to sleep, it might be worth a stay, but please don't go expecting a 4-star experience here.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Equus hotel! One of the things that truly stood out was the amazing service and kindness shown by the bartender staff Matt and Sandy! They truly made our trip memorable. I highly recommend staying at this hotel! Everything was adequate and we had what we needed. Great location and a few minutes walk from the harbor.

Very friendly and sweet staff. Good price and location. I know it's out of their control, but the parking is pretty bad/non existent. Luckily, there is a parking garage a couple blocks away. We were on the 3rd floor and were woken up numerous times throughout the night due to road noises, but again, that's not something they can really control. Would stay again!

The room is clean and feels comfortable. The woman we checked in with was very personable and felt comfortable to talk to. We came in for an early check in, she let us know kindly there is an early check in fee. And we had no problem paying it. She was down to Earth, friendly and made the check in a wonderful experience. The hotel has a welcoming feeling, clean, and charming would definitely come back. I slept really well, and I usually do not sleep well at hotels and Airbnb.

This hotel was a life saver. We originally stayed at the Monarch that might as well have been called a crack house. I was awful. We looked and found the Equus and walked in. The Gentleman that checked us in Charlas one in a million the bar tender Ben made us amazing coffees in the morning and drinks at night! The room was clean and wonderful they were helpful and like family. Next year I will say at same hotel and cant wait to catch up with friends I made here.

Love this quaint comfortable boutique hotel. The staff is so helpful and so friendly. The bar area is cozy and the live entertainment was a surprise. The room was clean and comfortable....we didn't use the pool or lanai. Location is close to everything we needed and will definitely pick this place if we're ever back in Honolulu.

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel with my family, we had a great time! The rooms were very charming, very quiet. The hotel was really well located, close to buses and the beach! The staff was adorable, very attentive and very accommodating (we could leave our suitcases all day before catching our plane in the evening). Thank you!!!

We wonā€™t stay anywhere else! An older hotel clean and comfortable. Nice bar in the lobby for us to grab coffee or cocktails without going to far. Just across from the harbor and restaurants plenty. Easy proximity to Ala Moana and Waikiki Beach. The staff is the best, mahalo Lincoln, Matt, Donna and everyone else who has become a part of our ohana!

Not sure how this hotel had the 3.8 rating. Stay somewhere else. The cost was comparable to a dependable name brand but this was pitiful. Should have changed hotels but just didnā€™t have the time. Bugs in one of the beds. Roach in bathroom floor. Parking was difficult. Just pick another place. The elevator does not go all the way to the parking garage so you have to drag your suitcase up a flight of steps. Valet staff do not assist with luggage. The rooms were very loud with street noise. The carpet needs to be replaced. Paid way too much and was charged a resort fee, not a resort. . Just pick somewhere else.

The staff at the front desk had so much ā€œalohaā€ which in this case to me means kindness, & generous, welcoming spirit. They were also very accommodating to my special needs when booking. Then my flight was delayed and they allowed me to cancel my hotel trip which was usually outside their policy. Although I havenā€™t stayed there yet, I would go just to visit the Amazing staff. Aloha!

The room is okay. Bed is comfortable, d ok cleanliness. However, the room is very warm, and it won't cool down. We contacted front desk and they came and adjusted the AC, it got a little bit better. Location is perfect if you are visiting the downtown area. If not, I wouldn't recommended because parking and driving in downtown is expensive and a pain. We reserved a parking spot and was told it is not avaliable and had to park at the Marina parking garage.

A nice little hotel located between the beach and Ala Moana Centre. We stayed there for 6 days and they were super friendly and answered any questions we had right away. The air conditioner worked great and we each got a free drink at the bar as a welcome gift.

  • 2/5 Renee A. 2 years ago on Google
Very comfortable bed, poor parking options, no ice machines. Definitely not a ā€˜boutique hotelā€™ as they so claim. More of a Best Western vibe, almost as if they bought one out and just slapped a new name on it. But hey, the required $25 resort fee will get you a colored watered cocktail so why notā€¦ā€¦..

  • 3/5 Cynthia Galston L. 1 year ago on Google
For the price we paid, we got the service we expected. Rooms were clean, amenities were limited but we didnā€™t spend much time in the room. Extra towels were plentiful which was helpful. Parking like others have said was tight but there was always a space reserved for our car. I was a bit surprised at the resort fee given thereā€™s not much going on at a hotel where the pool never gets sun. Lincoln and the rest of the staff were super friendly. There was only 1 parking attendant that was nasty towards us when HE offered to help us get out of a tight parking spot.

  • 2/5 Jessica W. 2 years ago on Google
Parking was difficult. Rooms were only semi clean. Incredibly noisy and loud at night when trying to go to bed (cars, motorcycles, people walking the street, etc.).Booked two rooms for my husband, myself, and our four kids. The closest they could get us was two floors apart at separate ends of the hallway. Did not enjoy my stay. Would not recommend.

Such a cute little western boutique hotel. Close enough to downtown that you can walk, but far enough you get away from the noise. Wonderful stay.

  • 1/5 Jalissa T. 2 years ago on Google
I was so disappointed in my stay here. Keys kept deactivating and every time we went to the front desk, the staff made us feel guilty about our keys not working. We were a travel group and reserved four rooms but only for two keys each. No option for more. The staff doesnā€™t speak to you at all. No good morning. Nothing. Idk about you but as an often traveler, the ambiance of where Iā€™m staying is IMPORTANT. No room service. No housekeeping. No help or elevator bringing bags to our rooms. Lastly, although one of the bartenders there was sooooooo nice (she was my favorite person there), there was one who was extremely annoyed at our presence. She rolled her eyes and said ā€œcan you guys stop screaming at me? Iā€™m only one personā€ all we wanted was two of the same. Our stay was not what we expected at all.

I don't mind staying in a basic place. It doesn't have to be fancy ,BUT it must be clean! There was a dead cockroach next to the Keurig when we checked in, and another one that met it's demise in the closet. The vents needed a good cleaning as they were thick with dust and who knows what. The walls and furniture could use a good wipe down as well. Carpeting in hotels by the beach is just gross šŸ¤¢.

  • 4/5 Andrew L. 2 years ago on Google
Great place to sleep and restore. Besides small things, you get exactly what is shown on the website and described. Not a high end resort, but it doesn't need to be. Definitely go to the bar and get breakfast/coffee. The avocado toast is the best!

  • 2/5 Davis B. 2 years ago on Google
We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend 2021. Unfortunately, we had to cut our stay at this hotel short after only 2 nights because we counted 5 cockroaches and other bugs in our room (401) that second night. The bed was broken, and there arenā€™t really any amenities to speak of. We left the card out one day to get the room cleaned but that was never done. The only reason I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1 is because the staff was very helpful and understanding of our situation. Obviously this isnā€™t their fault, and this is more of a management problem. We were told that we definitely were not the first recently to complain about roaches in the rooms. I really hope they make some changes and get some proper cleaning and pest control under way, because for the price it is a good location and could be a great budget hotel in downtown Waikiki. Unfortunately, thatā€™s not the case right now with the bug and sanitary problems. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a hotel in Waikiki.

  • 3/5 E B. 2 years ago on Google
It's a cheaper hotel. Close to everything. Weird layout. We didn't see any cockroaches. They gave us free drinks when we got there. Parking overnight is like 30 bucks. Rooms were just older but not dirty. Meh. Not that bad.
