This hostel really doesn't deserve the hype or reputation it has. It's mostly a mediocre hostel in the middle of the mountains - not bad at all, but not anywhere close to legendary. The vibe totally depends on the staff/volunteers and visitors, and it is often lacking (as it was during my visit, and I've heard similar from others recently). The food is borderline terrible, and there's not much of it. Almost every single person, was hungry after every meal, men and women. $5 seems like a good price for dinner but if the food doesn't taste good and you're still hungry, it's not much of a bargain. You also pay $5 for a bowl of oatmeal OR two pancakes in the morning (coffee is extra!). There are lots of outdoor activities. I would say you could find better versions of almost all of them in the region, but you can do some hiking, see a waterfall or a canyon, etc. If you've traveled in other parts of Central America, there's not likely to be anything here you find particularly exciting. There are great views from the hostel and it's a relaxing enough place if you choose to just hang out there during your days/nights. There were no major problems, so again, it's not a bad hostel. But if I had to do it over again, I would not choose to come here. It just wasn't worth the time, effort, or expense.

It’s hard for me to describe my time at Lost and Found as it was just so incredible. It is truly a hidden gem. Surrounded by jaw dropping views of the mountains and valle Hornito, in the midst of the cloud forest - this hostel exceeded my expectations. You will see more animals here than anywhere else in Panama. I loved waking up to dozens of vibrant humming birds surrounding the breakfast table each morning. The adorable capuchin monkeys, mischievous cacomistles and of course their beloved rescued Kinkajou named Rocky were some of my favorites! With an abundance of hiking trails and access to stunning waterfalls, along with local horse back riding and coffee tours - there is always something to explore during the day. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The accommodations were comfortable, and eating dinner together with all the guests and staff creates such a welcoming environment. If you love nature, secluded areas and hiking (there is a hike to get up here) you will fall in love with this place as much as I have. You cannot miss Lost and Found on your next trip to Panama!

Highly recommend a stay at Lost & Found! The surroundings are stunning, it's super chilled, it's peaceful and quiet, the food is good, the showers are amazing (no joke, the best (heat & power) I've had in Central America the last 3 months), and the owner is super nice. Spend your days lounging around the many hammocks with a view, or go exploring. The food: We read numerous reviews about meal portions being small, so we came prepared with cups of noodle soup and snacks. I eat alot but was always full after a meal, so we never even touched our soups. We did eat snacks in the room late at night but that wasn't from not being full from meals. All meals were between $5.50-$6.50. They clearly make an effort to balance quality, quantity and cost for backpackers. I've shared some photos of the food to help give an idea. The walk from the road: We are slow and unfit walkers and it took us 25-30 mins up with our big backpacks. Without backpacks, it took us 10 mins. The walks: The hostel has a list of recommendations with all the info you need. Some start from the hostel itself, while others involve a short bus ride. I recommend the 4 waterfalls hike, the river canyon and the view point above the hostel. The bugs: Yes, a few bugs and mosquitoes but you're in the bush! Hot tip: If you're getting a private double room, request the room called 'Ocelot' (in the photos, it has an ocelot painted on the wall). It has an amazing view and a hammock right outside the door. You're welcome! Definitely worth a visit, and easy to do on your way between Bocas and Boquete (or Bocas and anywhere 😅).

My stay at the Lost and Found Hostel has been nothing short of amazing. The longer you stay, the more it really grows on you. The staff was welcoming, the views are incredible, the meals relatively cheap and incredibly filling (dinner's my favorite). It is a bit of a hike from the road up to the hostel, but it's well worth it for the view at the main level. When the clouds clear you can see from the volcano all the way to Costa Rica. The best part in my opinion is all the wildlife... monkeys, hummingbirds, cacomistles and butterflies to name a few! There's plenty to do in the area to keep you busy when you're feeling adventurous, but it's a great place to just unplug and relax, as well as socializing with all the other travelers. This is a great place to spend a few days as you travel through Panama, this hostel really has it all. I definitely would reconsider staying here of you're not interested in immersing yourself in nature, wildlife, exploring, hiking or staying in the jungle.

Empty hiking trails, monkey sightings, swimming holes, hidden waterfalls - this place is truly incredible. I have met all kinds of people here including outdoor enthusiasts, backpackers, photographers, researchers, and people looking to party on their way to Bocas. It has something for everyone - whether your ideal day involves a good book and some yoga or an adventure in the jungle. Despite its remote location, it has wifi, hot showers, great food (including vegan options), and cheap drinks! This place is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Situated above the cloud forest of Chiriquí, the lost and found hostel greets you with a breathtaking view, exceptionally kind staff members and a laissez-faire attitude. Definitely drop by if you want to explore unique hiking spots in the jungle or watch the sunset over volcano Baru. And make sure to say Hi to Fabian at reception while you‘re there :)

Amazing hostel! The perfect place to relax, with lots of hangout space (and hammocks!). Activities around the hostel are really well laid out by the staff which make them easy to do! Definitely go to the four waterfalls. The rooms have big beds. The view is also spectacular! Would definitely come again

Love this place! We returned after 14 years! They have expanded since then and were still able to keep the awesome vibe! Andrew one of the two founders is still there and a great guy! Kudos.

Really awesome stay. The location is remote with stunning views and there is hiking and waterfalls in the areas. The hostel provides a lot of information about the wildlife and nearby activities which is extremely helpful

I stayed here an extra 24hrs as it was so peaceful and nice! I was dropped off along the main road, where there is an easy 15minutes hike to the rainforest paradise of Lost and Found. I'd reserved a double room, which was comfortable, and fabulous views! There are toilets and good hot showers dotted around the hostel so there is always one close. I was there during rainy season, when you can still do the local hikes no problem, but in high season they offer others tours aswell, so you have plenty to do! Breakfast is served until 10.30, they are huge portions for only a few dollars! The lunch and dinner are also really good value, and saves you transporting all your food to cook in their kitchen. I'm not a vegetarian but all the (vegan) food here is absolutely delicious and really filling.... I have preconceived ideas about eating vegan, but had they not told me, I wouldn't have noticed, as Carla does the most amazing food for all those who have signed up for dinner! Well done! It would be so complicated to transport, organise and cook meat for an unknown amount of people, so you can completely understand their reasoning on this matter. On my extra day I spent most of my time between the hammock, and photographing the wildlife and amazing flowers. My stay here was one of the highlights of Panama, it is a fabulous place to unwind and relax!

You just simply can’t spend enough time here. The perfect place to connect with all the rainforest has to offer and to meet likeminded individuals who share the same appreciation for wilderness adventures.

Incredible place, incredible people. Great vegan food, and wonderful services available like cold beer, snacks, laundry or even a fresh towel at super reasonable prices. An absolute must when visiting Panama. I couldn’t say enough great things about it so I’ll leave it at that.

Great hostel with an amazing view. You can relax in a hammock during the day or explore one of the many hiking trails in the nature reserve which surrounds the hostel. At night there is a bar where you can have drinks and play beer pong, jenga or foosball. There is a communal guest kitchen as well as a small supermarket within walking distance, which means that you can cook for yourself. You also have the option to eat the cooked meals from the hostel. There are a variety of affordable, healthy vegan options available. Definitely worth a visit!

What an amazing place ! I stayed at Lost and found for 3 nights last week and it was the highlight of my trip. The location and the view is stunning, you can enjoy fascinating wildlife around (even relaxing in a hamac while monkeys come picking oranges in the trees) and there are nice hike/treasure hunt around. I was totally charmed by Andrew (I am already missing our great sparkled conversations), his very sweet girlfriend and their adorable dog Leyla. I loved everything, common areas are great, the room was nice, food always good (big portions at a very reasonable price), basic kitchen was convenient to prepare some quick snacks, it's clean (as clean as it is possible to be in the jungle of course) and the hot showers are just are like chocolate for your soul. You just have to go there ! Ask Andrew anything he has so much to share. As for reaching that paradise, it's really not as complicated as it could sound. Everyone in Panama knows the place, so the Changuignola-David minibus driver will drop you there without problem, it's at km42 (it's well indicated and there's a local restaurant (vista hermosa) with bathroom on the side. From there you walk up about 10mn (it's safe, well indicated, and totally doable even with a backpack), and there you go ! Enjoy :)

We stayed here in Sept. 2010 while doing a birding big year. I was just going through old photos. I'm glad to see you've survived all that has happened in the past 13 years. Many great memories!

The rooms smelled a bit but all in all completely ok to stay in. The food is ok and huge portion sizes. Most of the dishes you can split up for two persons. The view and wild life is just stunning.

This place truly is the best hostel in Panama!! With a hike up into the lush jungle mountains where the property is located, it feels off the beaten track, which I’ve found hard to find in Central America on the whole. Family dinners every night allow you connect with guests and volunteers easily, and the sunset each night is breathtaking. Wonderful attentive staff and volunteers, who often organise events like beer pong competitions and quiz nights. Overall great place to come and enjoy nature and reflect on this wonderful world🌏💫

I had a wonderful stay at the Lost & Found. The views are absolutely stunning and all the guests and employees were super nice. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean and tidy and the food was great. Overall I have no complaints about my stay! You simply can't go to Panama without going to the Lost & Found.

I loved this place so much. Started my Central america Travel here. I could not have picked a more suited starting location. The view is fantastic. Very nice hikes all around the hostel. Several sights within a walking distance. The staff and volunteers are just lovable. They really make you feel at home. They organized several party events, such as quiz nights or beer pong tournament. It's a perfect mix between a party hostel and a quiet eco retreat, where you can both party and enjoy nature to the fullest. I would recommend everyone to come stay here.

The place is really nice isolated in the forest you need to walk a while to reach it The annoying thing is that they only have vegan food and it's a bit expensive. they almost don't let anything to enable you to cook to make sure you buy the meals For instance there is only a very tiny fridge The breakfast is good and good quantity, lunch not really good, dinner is good but served at 18h which is way too early, I felt hungry everyday when going to bed Our room was nice with a nice view There was a cut of electrify almost all day and they didn't have a generator I think it's a bit abused when you see the price of the night And knowing the place is completely isolated if everything is cut it's quite annoying So in the end I really liked the place but there were still a few things I didn't like

The hostel is in a unique location in a cloud forest with great views and is fairly easy to get to by local bus from David. The hiking and waterfalls nearby are good fun. We expected basic, and have stayed in very basic places before, but this one is in desperate need of refurbishment and felt like it has been neglected for years. Everything about it was old. The food was bad. Most of it was served cold, which was disappointing as when the weather was cold a hot meal would have been great. The rice with dinner was undercooked, when I complained about it the ‘cook’ was very defensive and asked “who didn’t like the rice”. The ‘burrito’ for lunch was a wrap containing mostly beans. If they cook better food, clean up the whole place and repaint everything it would be so much better.

I stayed at the Lost and Found Hostel with a group of 20 people. They were so incredibly accommodating. They even let us leave our luggage there the day after we stayed while we were wandering around the city. We also had a girl who was unwell the day after we checked out and they let her rest there. We ended up having a last minute change with our other hotel on the island a week later and went back to this hostel late at night and they were able to help us squeeze in so we didn’t have to sleep at the airport. We were so grateful and would recommend this place to anyone. Thanks!

One of my favorite spots in Panama! It has amazing trails for hiking right outside and several fantastic spots to see a short bus ride away. Good food, and an awesome view. Lots of interesting and fun people staying here too. It is in the jungle, so if you're expecting a fancy, clean atmosphere it isn't that. But if you want an amazing and refreshing experience it is definitely the place to stay

Loved it here, very very reasonable prices, an amazing location. Owner was great and really nice, definitely recommend doing one or another of the activities, definitely add this to the list of must visit places in Panama.

I can recomend this place for 1-2 night stay. Do some hikes in jungle & visit local waterfall and canyon in nearby village. If you like alcohol & drinking games you will enjoy the nights.

Great hostel and a really unique experience! It’s nestled in the mountains with a beautiful view of Baru and and the surrounding jungle. Nightly meals are served at a big communal table and do not disappoint. The cook, Katea, does an amazing job making creative and delicious Panamanian inspired vegan food.

The Highlight of my three weeks in Panama was staying at the Lost and Found Hostel. As someone who was looking to get away from highly urban settings, the lost and found hostel was the perfect place for me to get into nature and really relax. The hiking trails to the river were absolute blast to hike in and explore. The Hostel has everything you need, they provide breakfast lunch and dinner at a reasonable cost. There’s plenty of hammocks, benches, observation decks and other spaces to hangout in. They even have a wee bar where they host drinking games. Some of the dorms here are triple bunks- not ideal if you’re afraid of heights and on the top bunk, but certainly a fun experience. I’d recommend three or four nights staying here (I wish I’d stayed longer). Remember to bring cash!

The hostel is absolutely amazing with an unbelievable view of the mountains and the volcano. Hummingbirds, monkeys and a bunch of other exotic animals everywhere. They have really great tours such as a horse tour with the most beautiful view I’ve ever seen, as well as a really interesting coffee tour. The hostel is surrounded by hiking trails and there is a really nice canyon just 20 min by bus away filled with locals. A great place to relax and enjoy the nature or head up to the bar at night for a really good time filled with all sorts of games!!! Really recommend this place!!
