Houston Nature Center

Park Recreation center

👍👍 Cute little nature center full of family-friendly interactive exhibits and lots of info about local wildlife, trails, rivers, etc. Situated at the head of the very nice, paved Root River State Trail. Staff are always friendly and helpful, sometimes there's even an owl from the owl center there "help... People often mention center, kids,

Cute little nature center full of family-friendly interactive exhibits and lots of info about local wildlife, trails, rivers, etc. Situated at the head of the very nice, paved Root River State Trail. Staff are always friendly and helpful, sometimes there's even an owl from the owl center there "helping out." :) Native plant gardens outside are nicely done and they frequently host events and talks on various nature-related topics. Quite impressive for such a small town!

This is a well staffed race. All three events in this tri are executed with precision. The volunteers make you feel genuinely supported throughout the three race events. The Root River is a scenic paddle that is enjoyable wether you are competing to place or competing to finish. The bike has long descent sections and four hills of varying degree of ascent. The run is a flat loop around the outer edge of town(scenic). There are showers available after the race which is so - so nice. The long sleeve T is a real plus and it's cotton. Much better than the sweat-vac material. Thanks for a first class race Houston Lions and volunteers.

On the bike trail. This nature center is very unique, interesting and educational. It holds several relics that are unique to this geographic locations natural history, and is interactive too. The staff does a great job at welcoming tourists, and they even gave us a bucket for kids of all ages to ride the zip line at the park behind it, which also had a fireman pole. Houston, MN is not what most people think could be a great vacation destination. This center, it's park, and bike trails to nearby towns like Rushford Creekside Park prove differently.

The outdoor trails here are outstanding. Peaceful and lots of options. Don't miss the boardwalk and the pond overlooks. The kids play area is awesome - the hand water pump and tree house are brilliant and my kids could spend hours content just between those two things. The center building itself is new and doesn't charge admission although donations are accepted. You can watch honeybees at work, look at bird specimens, dinosaur artifacts, turtle shells, and so much more. Just a heads up - nothing inside is for touching, so remind your kids before they go in (there are signs all over to remind you of this). Nice, clean bathrooms and showers with camping onsite, bike tune up station, and even a little free library. Fantastic place to visit!

A really beautiful and fantastic park! The natural playground was a lot of fun for our two and four year olds. There was a tree house, sand pit, slide, and some large limestone rocks that formed a little cave. Highly recommend.
