Stopped by to have lunch one day. I'm very particular about tofu dishes, so I tried the Cali Spicy Garlic Tofu to see how it was. I chose vegetables instead of rice. The tofu was absolutely fantastic and I was very pleased with the dish. They did a wonderful job of seasoning the dish which most places I've tried have come up short. I appreciated having several vegetarian options to choose from. Since there were several tofu dishes on the menu, I stopped by on another day and tried the Tofu in Curry Sauce. It was absolutely delicious as well. I can say that they are consistent in their food preparation. Also, the service was excellent. Will definitely be back to try another vegetarian dish. In addition, their entire menu has a vast amount of items to choose from. There is definitely something for everyone.

I saw this on Buzzfeed on YouTube on the Sandwich Worth It episode and it’s in Houston and close to me and I have never visited so I decided to come today while I have some errands in downtown. The sandwich was really good. The bread is just perfect and the meat and veggies are substantial for the price. There are many to go order and they are taken care of the customer very well. The owner is hands on and everyone was very nice there. It’s just across from a beautiful park. If it’s crowded,I can always get to go and enjoy a picnic at the park. Highly recommended!

Houston Staple! A buddy mentioned he over-heard some business owner at another influential restaurant taking about this place. We peeped game and we’re not disappointed. The authenticity is comparable to a few spots in Chinatown we like to hit up from time to time. Btw they still have 2008 prices! Honestly, tell me another place you can buy a banh mi for 4.62? In midtown, on top of that!

True to life family run Viet joint serving the best comfort flavors. Trust me the marinated tofu sandwich is a beacon of goodness and the garlic beef is dynamite. Wonton soup with shrimp and pork dumpling make you say thank you sir may I have another! And for dessert a super smooth mango/pineapple smoothie can’t be beat. Ring the yum bell it’s time to chow down!!

I love this place. The Banh Mi is the closest I have found outside of Vietnam. It has the pâté in it, also ask for extra Mayo. The Pho has greatly improved this past year. I get the #29

Not only was the food phenomenal, but the customer service was AMAZING! I had such a great experience and was blown away both by how tasty and authentic it was! I had egg rolls and a Meatball Pho and my friend had a spicy beef chicken and pork soup. All of it was AMAZING!!! Will be back once a week!

Absolutely delicious and fresh Bahn Mi, Soups, and other Vietnamese and South Asian dishes! Last weekend, we tried the Pork and Seafood Soup and a Vermicelli Dish with Egg-rolls and Grilled Pork. We also had the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. The food was so good, we went back this weekend! This time we tried the Fish Ball Bahn Mi with Fried Egg, the Beef Bahn Mi with Fried Egg and extra pickled carrot and daikon, the Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage, and another great Vietnamese Iced Coffee. My wife was happy to try the Chinese Sausage, which was comparable to what I’ve had in Beijing. The Beef was just right at medium-well: tender and juicy. The Fish balls were perfectly fried with just a little bit of crisp to the outside. And the fried egg in both was fluffy and delicious: definitely expertly quick fried in a wok. Delectable, high quality, and filling food. Strong and creamy coffee Vietnamese coffee.

Delicious and affordable place! The portion was great for the price, and was all around great for Vietnamese cuisine. They have all the traditional dishes plus bánh mì. There’s lots of seating and service is pretty fast. Not the cleanest place, but for the prices there’s not much more which can be asked for. Definitely a good go to spot for Vietnamese cuisine.

Had to update my review- we enjoyed the (shrimp specialty dish). My mom had mi Hoanh Thanh - the wonton was flavored well but the soup wasn’t aromatic. We ordered banh mi to go and later had it and it was not that good. Maybe it was the kind of banh mi we ordered ? Shredded chicken. . They are efficient and fast here. Our server was so sweet and helpful. And they really did have Vietnamese grandmas cooking in the back !! Prices are decent . I’m just bummed the sandwich I had wasn’t good :/

Calis is a very home style restaurant that is very authentic. I consider it to have the best banh mi in town. I have tried several places in Houston known for their banh mi and they don’t compare to calis. My go to order is a beef banh mi with a small wonton soup. 10/10 hits the spot and is very filling. If you’re looking for a quick and tasty lunch spot Calis is definitely worth the visit.

I have been coming here since about 2003. Love the food. IMO this place sets the standard for many vietnamese dishes... I don't get my pho here though. 🫤

Excellent place for fast, fresh and very tasty Vietnamese food. There was a great selection of phos, rice and noodle dishes and banh mi sandwiches; all at pretty reasonable prices given the exorbitant inflation we have all suffered the past two years. The place is a bit run down but still very comfortable. And the service is fast and friendly. We enjoyed the spicy Ann delicious bun bo hue pho: a delicious chicken, noodle and vegetable plate; and Thai iced tea. For a little over $20 (including tip) our appetites were well sated and we had a good box of leftovers for an afternoon snack or a lite dinner.

Saw that the "Worth It" show guys stopped in when they were in Houston and recommended it, so we thought we'd give it a try. We got Banh Mi sandwiches; Cali combo, pork roll, and tofu. All three were excellent and large for the price of $4. The tofu surprised me the most, had the flavor of grill meat. We also got egg rolls, which were different but awesome. And tofu spring rolls. Which were really big, but probably would have been better left as they come. We took our food to go, but this is a large space and has plenty of seating. A no frills place, but good food and portion sizes for the price.

Price and product unmatched. My family and I come here often and have never had a bad experience or food. I love those Sandwhiches! If we need something quick and are around the area we usually end up here.. which is always a treat. Thank you Cali Sandwich and Pho for feeding Houston great food!

This was a lovely experience! My group and I came here randomly to eat some lunch and it was delicious! They were slammed with people but still got us our food fast. The food was delicious as well. I got the cali- combination sandwich and I would definitely recommend it. The smoothies are also great! Overall a fantastic experience.

Ate at this place the other day. Ordered beef vermicelli. It was so good! Will definitely come again when on this side of town. Food was hot and very fresh. I will say I wish it had a bit more meat, but the portion size was decent for the price.

Referrals from friends go a long way in my book, so we headed on over to Cali. There are definitely nicer facilities to eat, but you'd be hard pressed to find this good of quality Vietnamese food anywhere. The staff provided fast friendly service. The pho was oh so good, and the banh mi was amazing. We all left happy and full.

You know it’s going to be good when you see the Vietnamese grandmas working. Very authentic, we enjoyed all our food.
