I've been at the Art Abbey Bed and Breakfast for 18 months, and I've not lived in as comfortable a setting as this. John is invariably gracious and accommodating, and his short-term and long-term rates are great!

Mr. McNeil IS a fabulous host, I would recommend this spot to anyone traveling near or in the Houston area for a staycation. The entire home is fitted with art from around the world as well as a full Kitchen in the common area. The room I stayed in had a full bath as well as a full private terrace. I was able to unwind & relax for the weekend. For the price, style and aesthetic, nothing beats "The Art Abbey"!. For the summer I plan to book with this lovely establishment again.

John was amazing, and super friendly! Nice room, I just wish we have more sheets. That is our only critique. We had a great stay and woke up to coffee and nice conversation. He is very informative and honest about the area. I enjoyed how interesting he made every conversation. I would recommend this place and if we ever come back we will hopefully be able to return.

I am in love with this place. The art in the room and in the hallways are gorgeous. The atmosphere is peaceful and quiet. Although the neighborhood doesn’t look the best, I loved it here. Everything I needed was within reach. The price is very affordable!!! Will be back!!

I spent Feb 22-24 at this Bed & Breakfast. Very relaxing, clean, and nice. John is a great host and truly cares about his guests. Kitchen, washer/dryer, comfy room, so what more could you need? Thanks John for everything 💕🙏🎉👌

Very cozy accommodations, I was warmly welcomed by John and shown the layout. I felt right at home, and loved the fact that I had garage parking, private restroom inside the room, and a spacious balcony on which to get some fresh air. I highly recommend booking, especially if you aren't a fan of hotels and motels.

Mr. Jon is an excellent host. He really goes the extra mile to ensure that customer satisfaction is at an all-time high. He even made sure I was good after my stay with him. I recommend this place for stays. The location is great. His home is clean and the WiFi is awesome. He can share so much information about the city too!

Coming first time in Houston and so far so perfect thanks to JOHN, the best host I have met so far! The moment i booked he instantly messaged asking if I need help with directions. Plus you can check in at ur convenience. When i came, was quite lost, and he went out and greeted me, showed the room. Lovely modest home with lots of paintings! Which i truly appreciated. Little things that I need was available as well like PC and printer. The room was clean and filled with toiletries. Price is very much reasonable in contrast with johns superb hospitality. He even cooked for me dinner coz I came home late at night. U cant have that kindness in a standard hotel. Truly a humbling and lovely stay! Thank you John!

"Brother John" is a kind gentleman & keeps a Clean & tight ship. This-Home away from Home is warm & inviting. The company is Nice & the room is clean & the bed is Comfortable. My Cousin & I never had to worry about our safety, vermin or bugs. I did however, get to take some photos of a little Mountain Boomer, who somehow figured-out how to get in the garage. The decor is Wonderful, with paintings from guests from all over the world. You can't beat the price & I recommend this place to Everyone.

John was ALWAYS the most gracious and professional host of his home. I was on an internship at 2 major Houston hospitals from July - December, 2018 and was able to stay at the Art Abbey during that entire timeframe. His home was always spotless and clean! I really appreciated that there was also a garage to keep my car inside. We established a great rapport and I would certainly stay there again without thinking twice about it!!😃😃😃😃😃😃😃

Book at your own risk the owner is rude yelled at me for being in the common areas where he even says we r allowed and told me just by sitting at one spot at the diningroom table I was keeping others from using the table because they may not want to sit at the table with someone else is there. He even said those areas where just for eating food when him and the house guest he where friends with sit eat together and talk. Also he would use this space for his Bible studies but yet I was almost kicked out for wanting just to sit there for awhile and use my phone. May me feel unwelcomed and really lousy for staying there. People would constantly be downatairs in the livingroom till all hours of the night making it almost impossible to sleep. Also dog out side of the window that would bark most of the night. Also note this area where he is located is in one the worst areas of Houston. I even called the police at one point to ask what they knew of crime in this area and he literally told me that not only the neighborhood but the complex where this townhome is they get calls on it all the time a lot of crime in there. The officer who told me this laughed with recognition of the place and how they get calls there all the time. Like yep you want to be careful booking.

This review is an official response to the defamatory review left by Walter Chester (NOT his real name). This person is a conman that uses threats of negative reviews in an attempt to extort discounts and free nights from hotels/bnb's. Not a word of his review is true!! He was a nightmare guest that had been thrown out of his previous accommodations. I don't know if Google will allow me to use his real identity, but someone needs to stop his madness!!

This was an amazing experience for me. I really appreciated the great service and clean environment. Made sure to have on the snacks available. I would like to 0return to this location.
