Top notch burgers and sandwiches. Tried the firehouse burger - oh yes it's spicy 🔥🔥🥵 but oh so good. It's one huge burger. Curly fries were seasoned just right and didn't need any sauce help. Fish sandwich breading had oats and stuff and was substantial! Service was very good, doggo even had a water bowl brought to her.

To find a place like this, you'd need a time machine. A legendary "hole in the wall", burger place this time, hidden deep inside a neighborhood, and being surrounded by houses & apartment bldgs, just add to the experience long lasting memories. The old-fashioned burgers here will definitely make you quit eating burgers in these new trendy burger places, which keep popping up here & there. The Peach Cobbler is big and can easily serve 3 people, though. The onion rings were surprisingly delicious. They might look giant to you, but you will find them light & sweet. If it wasn't for the news on the Houston Chronicle on May 11th. 2023 that the Legendary Lankford's will have their 1st. branch ever in 70+ years, I'd have never known about this place.

Everything we ordered was fantastic! Fresh, and very tasty. The dining area was clean, and decorated for Christmas. All of the staff was helpful and courteous. We ordered the Frito Pie Burger, Patty Melt, Pimento Cheese Burger, Grilled Cheese and the BLT. The onion rings were so good! Great dining experience, I highly recommend!

The food was delicious.... We arrived late on a Sunday, closed at 3pm and we arrived at 1:30ish. Staff was kind and the location is kind of hidden in a neighborhood near mid town . We ate outside and the atmosphere was great. Though it was in the 90s there was plenty of shade . I had a Cheeseburger and fries on the side The size is decent but the taste of the meat was flavored and seasoned very well. Fries were crispy and fried just right. Not oily nor soggy. Also my wife had onion rings , buffalo chicken sandwich , and my daughter a kids meal chicken tenders. Kids meals are like lunch special size . The chicken was also fried very well , The food was served hot so we had to wait a bit to eat. Restaurant style not fast food so keep that in mind , priced fair and a little on the high side . My family , wife , and I enjoyed this place and food.

We were looking for a place that was on Diners,Drive-Ins and Dives so we found Lankford's. The workers were very friendly. We had burgers and sweet potato fries. The prices are kind of steep, but the food was good. This place was a try once at least and that's it for me.

Joyful nostalgic location for burger and fries and beer. The burger was good, but sauce/pickles weren’t tangy enough to my taste. Fries were absolutely outstanding! Staff is friendly and decor is great

First time eating here and it quickly became one of my favorite burger joints. I ordered the Grim Burger Burger and WOW!!! It was delicious. The onion rings were a win too!! One small set back, it took forever to get our ticket. I wouldike to say they were extremely busy or the server was just overwhelmed. We will definitely visit again and I'm sure we will get better service.

Outstanding greasy food, featured on DD&D! It's within a stone's throw of downtown Houston. In fact if you're in midtown you can easily walk there. We had no idea this place existed and just happened to be driving by. Go check it out!

I love this place! I love that the building and atmosphere isn’t updated but it’s well maintained. It feels cozy and comfortable and we’re not even talking about the food yet. Everything I’ve eaten there is delicious. I feel like you can’t go wrong there. The employees are so nice, too. Always look forward to going here.

Saturday afternoon outing to Lankford Grocery. Prompt and polite service. Menus and drinks were taken care of quickly. Order was handled quickly, food was delicious. My boy is a patty melt world champion 4x over and he declared his Lankford Grocery patty melt the G.O.A.T. I have been eating various burgers for almost half a century and my Cuban Burger made my taste buds sing. Mac and Cheese bites were top notch. Good atmosphere and good food. Highly recommend.

Very good burger place was recommended by a friend. Nice little historic burger joint! To grab a delicious bite to eat indoor or outdoor seating. The staff is super friendly and make you feel at home. A must if in the city of Houston.

An old mid-town staple, they are slinging a variety of different burgers and similar fare that you can eat with you hands. The beef was tasty and the bun was super soft and fresh. The other toppings are your preference. But I would definitely score them in the top 10 burgers in town. The inside isn't much to look at, but has a homey feel like you're at camp or your grandparents ranch house. Friendly service and your food comes out fast.

It's amazing to be able to walk into Texas in the middle of Houston. For those of us that grew up here langford's grocery store is a wonderful walk into our past. This is one of my favorite places to grab a burger and I love the fact that it hasn't changed. Sometimes a cheeseburger and some french fries are the answer to all of life's problems.

This is an update to accompany my first review. We loved Lankford's SO much that we went back again about two weeks later when traveling back through Houston, Texas on our way home to Florida from a trip out to Arizona. Again, it was incredible!!! This time I had the Thursday special which was a huge portion of Chicken Fried Steak covered in white country gravy!! It came with equally delicious sides of loaded mashed potatoes, a side salad with their homemade Bleu cheese dressing and some Texas toast. My husband opted for the buffalo chicken sandwich and a side of onion rings on this visit. He said it was very, very good!! I also enjoyed the fresh lemonade and topped everything off after sitting a spell (to make some room!!) with a dish of their out of this world peach cobbler!! ALL was delicious!! We'll be visiting Lankford's again, you can count on that!! Thank you Jessica for keeping this fantastic restaurant going in your family and thank you to Tessa who waited on us both times!!! Everyone that works at Lankford's was helpful and kind!! God bless you all. Incredible! I'm flat out serious, the burger was THAT good!!! I had the Grimm burger with bacon and Mac n' cheese on the bottom of the burger, then the hamburger patty which was topped with jalapenos, tomato and an over easy fried egg topped it all off before being covered with the top bun. It was Ahhhhmazing!!!! My husband had The Texan which had a big juicy burger with a cut in half sausage link, barbecue sauce, an onion ring plus his choice of cheese. He said that was the best burger he's had in years!!! Mine was too!!!

The food was amazing. I haven't been here in many years and was very glad to see the food quality hasn't gone down. I ordered the Thursday special of the chicken fried steak. I got there before what I thought would be the lunch rush but I was definitely wrong. The service was great although not as prompt as I normally like. That was due though to having a full restaurant and several tables outside as well and it started raining during my time there so they had to find tables for people inside who were outside. They were also understaffed that day. My waitress was very kind and provided great service. I'll definitely be going back next time I'm in Houston.

Love this place. Excellent food, super nice in people, and a fun atmosphere. Pictured is their tasty 3 egg breakfast with crispy bacon, cheese grits and English muffin. I've also REALLY enjoyed their "Red, White & Blue Burger" recently. Highly recommended! P.S. Despite the name, this 85 year old establishment is strictly a cafe and hasn't been a grocery for many years.

Most people know about the delicious burgers and tater tots at Lankford’s but they also have a great breakfast! When it’s good weather out, we walk over on the weekends and have breakfast on the dog friendly patio. The staff is always very friendly and the food is great! The avocado toast is tasty and I love the biscuits and gravy.

The burgers are delicious!! You can tell they are made the old fashion way can taste the difference between Lankford burgers and your typical burger place. The inside is full of old photos makes it feel very nostalgic. The waiters were friendly and they kept the great pace with only 2 of them working they took orders and brought food out in a timely manner. I love how everything is in its original state since they opened in 1937 I would only suggestion that they get portable air conditioning because I visited when temps reached 100 and although they have several huge fans it was still a little hot. But overall it's definitely worth visiting and the prices are great for 2 burgers, 3 lemonades, sweet potato fries, onion rings and apple cobbler was only $52 and the portions are shareable.

Excellent service and better than average food. The kids had the chicken fingers with fries. Crispy chicken fingers and small somewhat crunchy fries. I ordered a burger with bacon, cheese and a fried egg. Didn't even dawn on me, until later, that they left off the cheese. Decent flavor for what looked like a handmade patty. They do serve beer. Will go again to try the breakfast. Limited hours. They were closing at 3pm the day we went.

Lovely little find of a neighborhood joint! Burgers, sandwiches, and other assorted lunches on the menu, including grilled or fried chicken sandwiches. Bottle and and can beers - great variety on hand. Had the fried chicken sandwich and an order of fries. The fried chicken sandwich wasn't particularly memorable, but the homemade fries were great! Will definitely come back to try the cheeseburger and other items on the menu. Friendly and helpful staff! Indoor and outdoor seating, sunny and shaded. Just an overall lovely neighborhood vibe!

I've been here twice and each time the food has been to my liking. I've had a burger and a chicken sandwich a long with onion rings curly fries tatortots and I've ordered the fried pickles both times. The fried pickles are so darn good. They're always crispy and coated well. The burger I got was a normal bacon cheeseburger with and egg. They're pretty big so honestly if you're trying to eat "healthy" one is enough for two people. I got the California chicken sandwich with the cilantro dressing on the side. The dressing is very good but the chicken was heavily seasoned with mostly just black pepper and it was very overpowering. I probably would ask them for less pepper if I ordered it again. The fries have all been crispy so I really enjoy that. It's a small restaurant so seeting can be hard during peak times. They do have out door seating but during this hot weather you have to avoid it. Would probably be a better experience to sit outside during cooler weather. The three days of the year that we have some. I haven't eaten enough dishes to decide if this is a must eat spot however I would definitely come back to keep trying other dishes and that alone speaks volumes. I wanted to add they're currently not accepting cards however they have pretty much all other payment methods available like zelle venmo paypal just to mention a few so this shouldn't be an issue.

I just discovered the best burger in Houston! The Firehouse Burger at Lankford's is spicy hot and delicious. And, they have a whole new level of tater tots! Don't know how they do it, but they are crispy and really good.

Quaint little spot, glad to finally stop here. Let me just say I loved the atmosphere, I thought that was very creative! The waitress could have been better, only checked on us once and didn’t know some of the prices. Which by the way the drinks are not on the Menu. Okay so burgers are good, we think they could be seasoned a little more. And we had sweet potato fries.

Established in 1937, Lankford grocery is a family owned Houston staple that has been featured on Diners, drive-ins, and dives with Guy Fieri. While there is a vast selection of burgers, you can also come for breakfast to try out dishes ranging from huevos rancheros to biscuits and gravy. While this place was formerly cash only, I can report that they are now accepting cards. Food: There are several favorites, but I came for the firehouse burger. With their house made habanero sauce, patties drizzled in cayenne butter, and ample sliced jalapeños this burger brings the heat! If that's what you enjoy, then this burger is for you. This burger is discussed on the guy fieri episode. People have described the heat bringing tears of joy🥲 🔥 Service: Top notch and friendly. Very personal. Atmosphere: The building is charming with its slanted walls and sagging beams. I would consider this fitting the dive category. It's an old structure for sure, but there is also decent outdoor seating. It's clean and well kept with nice comfy decor.
