Great seafood. Up there with the best in the city all at a very reasonable price. The lobster, scallops, and mussels were incredibly good. Always friendly staff in there. Not a bad beer selection, with their own brewed beer on site. Happy to return again

Amazing seafood restaurant near Brighton. Highly recommend! Perfect pub and restaurant vibes. The crab was so good. Service was 10/10, so friendly. I'd recommend 2 starters and 1 main, maybe 2 sides. Enjoy! :)

We turned up with no booking on a winter Saturday afternoon, which of course meant we only had the outside garden to sit in. Which was alright with their outdoor heaters 🔥. Food was pretty delicious 👌🏽 The Crayfish & Crab Cocktail 🦀 🦐 had nicely balanced flavours and was fresh but perhaps a tad small on the portion size for the price we paid. But I suppose you trade off portion size for higher quality and higher prices. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The XL Tiger Prawns was super delicious, the prawn peals off super easily. Definitely recommend getting your fingers stuck in for this one 🤌🏽 We also ordered a platter of oysters, real bright with fresh flavours, very quaffable!

First waitress was not able to explain the ‘specials menu’ to us, and did not understand the wine we had asked for. However luckily, another waitress had come to serve us, and everything ran beautifully and smoothly. We both had oysters, scallops, squid, chips and lobster. All cooked to perfection! Will definitely come again.

You've got to get yourself down to the urchin! Micro brewery, fresh seafood and beautiful garden. The beers are on point and good value, the seafood is up there with the best in and around Brighton and Hove and everyone working there are so helpful. Couldn't recommend more.

The Urchin is a lovely, unassuming pub serving great shellfish in a very pretty garden. Welcoming staff, delicious dishes without the pompous presentation. Would love to go again for octopus and prawns, unfortunately they didn’t have them on the menu the day I ate there.

Fresh and tasty seafood We came here for my boyfriend birthday since he had never tried a lobster before. As a seafood lover and I have tried many different seafood restaurants in different countries, I can tell how fresh it is here. My boyfriend tried the lobster for the 1st time and he absolutely loved it. Besides, we had 2 starters. My scallops was lovely but my boyfriend's fried mussels was too salty for us (a tiny minus point). Other than that, we loved the food. Dessert was not too special in my point of view. The waiter and waitresses were very nice to us with is a big plus point. A very big minus point to our dinner was that we had to dine with a bunch of rude people. They were so noisy, yelling, singing loudly. My boyfriend and I couldn't even have a conversation together due to the noise. The lady at that table was not only rude to the waiter and waitress but also rude to me since I tried to cover my ears to not listen to her disgusting singing. It was to the point where I got a headache and it ruined our dinner in a way. I highly recommend to come and try their seafood. If you're lucky enough, you won't have to dine with rude people.

Absolutely beat any expectations! Great relaxed atmosphere, tasteful themed decor and fabulous staff - attentive and relaxed. The food - Absolutely next level! Great portion sizes, divine catches and even the sides of fries and spring greens were incredible quality. Real taste. Scallops in Seaweed butter were heavenly and everything about the main dishes were perfect! We had Malaysian King Prawns and a special of mussels with coconut and ginger. The wine menu was also impressive - perfect pairings with the seafood on offer. I literally cant wait to visit again and have already recommended it to family and friends. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Great pub well worth seeking out. Simple menu offering fresh delicious seafood. Also brew their own beer which was very good and also a interesting selection of wines.

Amazing food and really nice ambience. The owners are friendly and offer great service. Memorable for the positive feelings that it leaves you with. The customers it attracts are also a sound bunch. Nice family environment. Fantastic quality of seafood. I only wish the restaurant area was open longer as would love to come for lunch and dinner. Would 100% recommend this hidden Brighton gem 💎

Food great, but have never had worse service in my life. Firstly, when ordering we were asked if we wanted food altogether or as mains and starters. We asked for altogether, and were then told that mains and starters would be better. Fine - but don’t ask the customer what they want then say you know better? Felt the need to tell us that somebody had over ordered, but made no attempt to explain that the prawns ordered as a main were literally only two prawns. Told to wait to order wine as couldn’t do this with our food order. Then never came back to take a wine order. Had to ask for cutlery and plates. Rather than saying yes of course, felt the need to tell us there was cutlery in the pot right in front of us…when there wasn’t. Spent over £200 here. And then after all this felt the need to passive aggressively point out we hadn’t left a tip. There was nothing to tip. Such a shame, have enjoyed eating here multiple times before.

Delicious seafood. Crab was delicious, even if a messy nightmare to eat. The Malaysian prawns were in a curry sauce-spicy but not hot. A relaxing venue, with a good drink selection. Best of all, we were accommodated on a Saturday afternoon without reservations!

Amazing seafood! My friends had oysters which they loved. We shared the calamari which was delicious. I tried one of their specials which was brown crab sauce on corn on the cob , with a bowl of chips (ordered separately.) It was beautiful. My friends had the scallops which they adored. If you like seafood, this is the place to go!

Delicious home brewed beer, heaps of wine by the glass, some really interesting stuff too 🍷 and amazing food. We had oysters followed by a couple of things off the special board. The Thai yellow mussels were sublime as were the corn riblets (specials board). Service was very good, staff were knowledgeable about their products. Loved our lunch and we will defo be back next time we’re in Hove

What a gem of a place!! 🤩 I came here with my partner who LOVES seafood…I don’t eat any seafood whatsoever and the menu is almost exclusively fish, crustaceans or shellfish, so it was a little daunting…that being said, I had nothing to worry about - the vegetarian option was absolutely sensational and even the small bits of seafood I tried were really tasty!! The sauce served with the crispy squid was phenomenal. The pub has a fantastic garden and indoor bar area, both of which are inviting and dog-friendly, and a smart, secluded restaurant area. We sat in the bar. The service is exceptional - we were served quickly, the staff are knowledgable about the menu, and really personable. As someone who generally detests seafood, I can’t believe I’m saying this - but I can’t wait to come back! I could not rate this pub any higher ✨

Turned up at 7.30pm with no booking but were shown to lovely table outside with a heater (it was a chilly evening but we were toasty). We had the muscles and the scallops, both of which were really fresh absolutely delicious. We also had copious amounts of wine, again lovely. The cheeseboard was a bit on the small side which is why this review only gets four stars. Overall a great experience. Will certainly return and highly recommend.

All the seafood here are excellent. Strongly recommend the sweet and spicy king prawns, roasted scallop and crispy soft shell crab.

There’s a much revered seafood place in the unassuming backstreets of Hove, and it just so happens it’s also a fantastic pub with it’s own microbrewery as well. The Urchin Hove brew their own beers on the premises under the name Larrikin and they don’t hold back on variety. Styles rotate, and on my visit I tried them all; a sour, a lager, an oyster stout, an imperial stout and an oat cream IPA. I think what I loved most about my visit was how the pub manages to make you feel both special and relaxed at the same time. It’s not trying too hard, you don’t need to be dressed up to the nines to eat out here, the service is friendly and comforting and the space so small that staff have time to make you feel important. Really nice place well worth seeking out if you're in the area. Well decorated and the hanging baskets would be the envy of any gardener. A lovely Larrikin Stout went perfectly well with our starters of scallops, salt & pepper squid, brown shrimp (very hot chilli, will be overpowering for some). This was followed by two bowls of king prawns (chorizo & garlic and curry). Glad we made the trip, would recommend.
