Who started the park about 1776. Since then successive park superintendents have modified and changed directions for the future development and the use of the park.

Definitely a must-see tourist spot in Howrah for its awesome lush greenery, the quietness and the natural beauty of flora and fauna. Highly recommended for nature lovers.

Visiting AJC Bose National Botanical Garden (Formerly Shibpur Botanical Garden) during the month of December is very charming, beautiful and pleasant. So many seasonal flowers along with natural trees. Plants and Herbs may be seen. The Great Baniyan Tree may be worth watching.

Very beautiful and peaceful place

This is the oldest Botanic Garden in Asia. It is situated in Howrah, India. The most famous inhabitant in the garden is the Great Banian Tree which is estimated to be 250 years old. Its main trunk had rotted many decades ago and it is now being supported by its air roots reaching down into the ground. There are beautiful avenues with trees and shrubs along the way on both sides. KYD monument was built in the memory of Col. Robert Kyd who established this garden in 1787 as Company Bagan and served as honorary superintendent of this garden from 1787 to 1793.
