(Translated by Google) We were there on a weekday - and it was pleasantly empty. Unfortunately, due to Corona, some buildings were only partially accessible or not at all - which is why the entrance fee was reduced. The area is very spacious and well signposted. There are many lovingly designed details and photo motifs - the cottage gardens are a real eye-catcher for gardeners. It was a nice and interesting day.

This is a nicely expanding open air museum. Since last year and our last visit there are a few new item to see, combined with the extras today with the horses and tractors meeting it made for an interesting day out. The children always have a lot of fun to see what has changed and to see the animals as well. As said the horses were an extra highlight. As this was all included in the lvr family card it makes it a real bargain as well. Well worth a visit and always worth getting some fresh bread which they make on site.

Nice place to see how local folks lived here around the 1900. This place has all the buildings and structures preserved to visit. Everything is walkable but sometimes you have to go through the narrow buildings to see the details. The place also offers an annual Saint Martins parade through the park with a big fire at the end.

Awesome museum! I visited August 3, 2017, so I'm not sure if things have changed much, but it was a nice change of pace from the loud city and you learn much about the history of rural and manor life in the Rhineland. The tour guides are very friendly and want to chat about what you see, and the informational signs are in German and English. The animals and architecture are great, and they have places to eat, although if I recall correctly the quiet museum restaurant had an incredibly rushed waiter, the most flustered one I've ever seen... I had a radler and a big piece of red meat.

(Translated by Google) A really very nice museum, especially the House of History I would like to recommend to everyone. I had visited it under corona conditions, so access to the building was limited, but well regulated. I'll be back.

This place feels like traveling back in time to different eras of Germany's history. Besides the classic farm buildings, the museum recently started to build a 1960s market square. Great for families and history buffs.

If you like walking and historical architecture and pretty countryside then you are at the right place. Just a marvel of a place. Well worth it. Also local food, ie breads, cakes and meats available at the eateries there.

Nicely built and well arranged according to geography and/or time period, with lovely walkways in-between, with many roads and directions for a long or short or thorough visit. Authentic interior. However, while the description on the outside is in English, basically all of the exhibits or stories inside the houses are explained in German only. Very interesting is the exhibit "Wir Rheinländer", telling the story of this particular area from early 1800 until late 1940s, where you walk along a city street and peer into windows, looking at wax dolls in different settings, adding a couple of years for each window, and seeing how culture and people change as time goes by. For a full visit of the entire museum you should plan at least 4-5 hours.

Such a cool place, so much to see and it's so relaxed. The cake is absolutely amazing, and it's baked on site in the old fashioned bakery

(Translated by Google) Very nice, cozy and spacious museum in the middle of the beautiful Eickser Forest. You can see a lot and I can only recommend the bread and cake baked in the wood oven. Since I live in the village, I can go in there for free and always buy our bread there. (Translated by Google) Very nice. Was nice there many years ago as a child and lastly a few years ago, and it's always evolving. Meanwhile there are also 2 bungalows from the 60s, that's history now. The site is already extensive and easy to visit even during the pandemic. There are benches everywhere to take a break, a bakery cart, café, restaurant, etc. And of course a playground for the children.

Disappointing. The buildings are beautiful and the whole experience could be spectacular but it fell flat. Perhaps it was due to coronavirus but all of the basket weaver, weaver, cook etc who could bring the museum to life weren't interested in talking to us (in German) and didn't seem particularly knowledgeable. In comparison Hampton Court's kitchen or the Weald and Downland Museum have people full of knowledge who are delighted to chat to you, get you involved and offer you a taste of their food. In contrast the weaver simply said our children were too young to understand what he was doing. The buildings are well worth a look (we loved the windmills) but don't expect much more.

Nice to see how things were done back in the time. People are polite and funny. One thing bothered me, there is no way to get cash like today where there is a big market/kermis going on. So if you are going to an event there, take enough cash with you. Tickets and their own "restaurant" can be paid with EC- card, anything else with cash ;-)

Step back in time to… early 2022, when covid was still a threat. This open-air museum still makes you wear a face mask, keep 2m distance and allows only 2 people at a time in the indoor spaces. You don’t find out about this until you’ve reached the entrance, after a really long and steep climb from the parking lot. Normally there is a small bus to transport less agile people up the hill but this is currently not running due to… covid. Not counting on all of this nonsense in late April 2022, I had to buy a face mask at the cash desk (€1,50). To make this visit worse, when I was waiting in line at the cash desk my wife wanted to go to the toilet, but the cash desk woman screamed at us: “Buy tickets first, then go to the toilet!!” This took us back to another time in German history, when they loved barking orders at people. Zum befehl… I used to love coming here, but not anymore. (in fairness: the people at the restaurant were very friendly).

Please stop using animals as props. The location is not very foreigner-friendly as there is not much info in English but that’s not a big issue. My issue is how neglected the animals seemed. The horse you see at the entrance is clearly uncomfortable and is covered in flies digging into its legs, and the goats/sheep have tics on them.

It is a great experience to understand the previous life style in Germany. There is a woodcarver in the park who is very professional and explains his work to us in English.Welcome to come to Taiwan to visit our woodcarving art in the future :)

I loved this place. It wasn't fully functioning on 8th Sept when we went, so entry was free. Big area, beautiful buildings, good history and exhibitions through the ages. I especially enjoyed chatting with the gentleman in the Nissen Hut. I won't forget what he told us - facts, humanity, lessons. It was very emotional, and followed on well from our previous day at Vogelsang. Thank you. Jan from England.

A place to spend the entire day with the family. It may not make sense if you a very small child who cannot understand history. Houses from various parts of Germany ha e been reassembled here. Additionally, museum workers play the role of people living in those times. At €7.50/adult it is expensive if you are not interested in history and German culture. A small zoo with pet animals completes the round up of items on offer.

LVR-Freilichtmuseum Kommern is one of the biggest outdoor museums in Europe with lots of animals, beautiful landscapes and a total of sixty-seven historic buildings. The site represents rural life in Germany since the fifteenth century in a very authentic and informative way. It's both interesting for adults and children. If you visit Western Germany, you shouldn't miss out on this unique museum. You can spend an entire day there without ever getting bored.

(Translated by Google) Everything was well organized for security reasons. It is a shame that because of Corona you could only look inside from the outside and that many demonstrations did not take place. All in all, they tried to show some of what was possible. This is by no means the fault of the open-air museum. The current situation. Unfortunately, I have to chalk the negative that it says on the Internet that you can borrow handcarts and that you find out on site that this is not possible for hygienic reasons. Then please share this on the Internet. We had 3 children and things with us. It was a good haul. Otherwise nice stay.
