This could be potentially a lovely place, but we did encounter a lot of little issues. All were resolved by staff, however it did make the trip a little stressful. Our room key didn't work, we were moved into a different room. The spa brochure on the website is out of date prices are now higher. Pool was very busy and couldn't only be accessed after you checked in and before you checked out otherwise additional charges were applied. Food was amazing. So tasty and varied in its choice. Rooms themselves were super comfortable and spacious. High quality toiletries too, but soap wasn't filled up. All in all, we had a good stay but it wasn't perfect.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, the staff were extremely polite and helpful. The executive room's are modern, very spacious, smart and clean... With a 50 inch TV! The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. The only drawback was we weren't informed the majority of the spa was closed due to maintenance work, however this wasn't too much of an issue as we still had the pool... I would happily visit again when the maintenance work is completed!

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return if in the area again… The staff was helpful at every stage of our stay and deserve a lot of credit. The cleanliness and appearance of the hotel is great with lots of open spaces to sit outside and relax. The rooms we had were well done and maybe recently refurbished. The only fault I could mention is that there seems to be a lot of small details that are overlooked here which I wouldn’t expect from a chain hotel. For example there was only shower gel in the bathroom and not a bar of soap to wash our hands. Also, there was no tray in the shower to place the shower gel so I had to leave it on the floor which wasn’t very convenient. The second room I had for the children lacked a phone which wasn’t ideal for us to communicate room to room…

Had an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast. The hotel is in nice surroundings and has a quality feel about it. Our room was terrific - a huge suite with lots of space, a very comfortable bed and a bathroom the size of some entire hotel bedrooms! The restaurant is classy and the food is good. The restaurant was a little overwhelmed on the night of our visit - a lot of guests for a relatively small staff group to cope with. But they remained professional and attentive throughout. Breakfast was generous and tasty and good value for money. Overall, this is a very nice hotel and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We recently stayed in the Dunkenhalgh hotel for 2 nights . The last time I had been here was for my own wedding 12 years ago so I was looking forward to the stay with some fond memories . The building is a beautiful period hotel, however it seems like it has been run down and looking quite tired. We stayed in the exec room which is very large and has a bath and shower . The shower tray didn’t drain properly (we did inform reception but they didn’t do anything ) - quite annoying as by the end of the shower your feet were immersed in water and the next person had to wait for their shower for 5/10mins. I found the staff at reception not very friendly or helpful , when I turned up my wife had already checked in and gone to the room- it was quite a distance from reception but when I asked for some help they just said “go that way…!” Straight through a wedding party that was taking place . The swimming pool itself is very nice but the changing rooms and toilets inside are looking dated . Breakfast was so busy and seemed to be understaffed - the selection was quite basic but adequate . Even when we asked for extra towels we had to call reception 3 times and wait ages. The outside areas are very nice and it’s a good location for the m65 motorway. I appreciate that it has been a tough 18 months for hotels and this is probably the result of lack of funds possibly to do all the updates and refreshes. Overall I was a little let down and probably wouldn’t stay again.

Beautiful hotel, restaurant dinner and breakfast were lovely. Aziz was very welcoming and friendly at breakfast. Our room was very spacious and modern however we were across from the main bar on one side and over a disco/karaoke bar on the other. It's was extremely noisy until well after 1am and we could still here voices and movement until after 2am.

Fabulous 80s 90s 00s night for a group of 17 people on a hen do . Staff very helpful and accommodating. Everyone was impressed with the food served and the meals came out hot and at the same time . Good selection of drinks behind bar .venue really clean. The morning of the hen I dropped off table decorations and party props to be put out for the evening party and also dropped off things to be put in the bride to be’s room to surprise her on checking in . The staff did a fab job with sorting it all, nothing was to much for trouble for them and all done with a polite friendly smile . Will definitely use Dunkenhalgh hotel and spa, Blackburn again . Thanks to all the staff who made the special celebration really enjoyable for everyone. We will be back x

We booked a last minute deal to this hotel, for Dinner Bed and breakfast. The booking (via Secret Escapes) was really easy and straight away the booking was confirmed by the hotel. We had plenty of information emailed to us and were offered opportunities to book the restaurant and upgrade. The hotel was easy to get too and parking good. Currently the £10 parking charge was suspended (March 23) Rhe spa facilities were excellent. Clean and well maintained. Our meal at the restaurant was lovely. Our room was clean and well maintained, although we were close to the wedding reception, we couldn't hear any noise from the party. Breakfast was also lovely. Staff were very helpful. We can't wait to come again

Good location with parking. Lovely place. They upgraded our room before which got there which is nice, however most of the rooms are at the far end of the building so there is a lot of walking involved! The spa is lovely however only the pool was open due to all the steam and sauna rooms being shut for builders work. Would ho here again and recommend.

Fantastic evening meal. Room lovely. Robes provided. Breakfast was a let down and super busy. If the hotel is busy they would be better to book breakfast times. Staff awesome. Drinks expensive. £26 for two double gins. Grounds stunning, great location.

Staff were so attentive especially Sara who went out of her way to create cocktails for me and being amazingly chatty and bubbly. All the staff just seemed so happy to be there and wanted to do all they could to make your stay amazing. We opted for the overnight spa stay for 2 which included dinner and breakfast. Food was amazing, the natural products used in the spa treatments have done wonders for my skin. Set in beautiful grounds. I just wish we could have stayed an extra night. We are already working out dates to go back.

What a disappointment our two night stay here proved to be. The restaurant looked like a cafe and after our meal we were left to look at our finished plates for far too long. The bar was like a bear garden with so much noise and I had to queue for 20 minutes just to order bar food none of which they had available when I got there and the pricing was both food and drink was extortionate The ceiling tiles in room had water stains and the whole place had a slightly shabby feel to it. It was good when I used to use it for business guests in the 80s but it is now well past those days. You would be wise to find somewhere else, indeed anywhere else, if you need to stay in the area. It is a joke to call this a four star hotel.

We had such a nice one night stay. After a cancellation the day before from another hotel, we thankfully found this hotel for Valentine’s Day weekend and were honestly so grateful for the hospitality we received. The spa facilities are great and we received a bottle of wine on arrival. Stunning bathrooms and huge comfy beds in a beautiful old building. The breakfast buffet was great and the dining room is comfortable. Will definitely be back. On the Friday night before we left (and just after booking the hotel) I emailed to ensure they’d received the booking. I had such quick correspondence from Sadie who was attentive and so helpful. She gave us a later checkout and explained how our package would work.

Beautiful building, needs a little TLC in some areas. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dinner was lovely, breakfast was good but the most expensive hotel breakfast I've ever had. I expected to pay £12-15 for an adult at mos, this was £20. They were going to charge me for the children too, but as my kids had a bowl of cereal and a hash brown, I checked my booking which said accommodation and breakfast free for 2 kids staying with adult. Staff were very nice, apologietic, and took the kids off when I explained. Swimming pool lovely and warm, the kids loved it. Changing rooms have an interesting layout, but overall good facilities. Bedroom was clean and well presented. Thank you for having us.

Had a wonderful day/night. The spa facilities were very good. Everything was very nice. The service at the bar was spot on and the bar itself was lovely, especially the high backed chairs. The room was very nice. Very clean and big. Again, the facilities were superb and the free items in the fridge were a very nice touch. The food in the restaurant both at dinner and breakfast was excellent. Looking forward to going again

Although our room was upgraded on arrival, unfortunately a double bed was within the room when twin was booked. The receptionist was very quick to find a further room, however one of the Queen beds within was uncomfortable down to the mattress as it felt like the springs were coming through which ultimately led to not having a good night's rest. The food on offer was beautiful for the evening meal, yet felt the breakfast buffet although plentiful, could have been warmer. The staff throughout our visit were pleasant and polite and acknowledged our comments with genuine concern. The spa, although not directly under the hotel, we commented upon the pool being cool, the changing rooms were cold and the spinner for costumes out of order. No robes or slippers were supplied even when part of the package. However the treatment area was lovely with a varied rooms available and plenty of space to enjoy.

We had a few issues with the deal we booked and some of the services available, our stay could have been disastrous without the hard work of some of the staff and their excellent customer services skills, a special mention and thank you to Ashden (sorry if spelt wrong) in the restaurant area, she was amazing and stopped a massive complaint from myself and husband coming. Children swim times were not manned very well - adults sat round the pool with no intention of swimming were including in capacity numbers and there was no real structure to how it ran, however another member of staff went above and beyond to make sure all families waiting received some swim time - sorry we didn't get his name. Only one person working on the smallest bar with a very poor attitude, too rigid and not accommodating of customers, she practically shouted at the lady before me for not having the right voucher?!?! I would stay again but I do feel some of their staff need a little more training in dealing with guests. Room and facilities lovely and nice touch with the animal hunt for younger guests.......although we all had fun doing that 😁

Good location, close to motorway, easy to find. Stuff was very friendly, room was spotless clean. Food in the restaurant tasted good, wide selection of alcohol in the bar. Spa facilities nice as well including : pool, steam rooms, sauna, jacuzzi. We came here to spend my husbands birthday, overall very satisfied. definitely recommend, and looking forwards to come back.

Pool lovely. Restaurant okay, nothing special, over priced fried, cheap and poor choice. Staff lovely. Unfortunately I had no sleep. On emailing the team before my stay I got an quick reply, on email after my stay three times I am still waiting two weeks later for a response. We were in room 311, the window was broken meaning outside noise could be heard clearly. The internal fire doors banged loudly all night as it seemed to be a throughfare for people going to the smoking area. Around 2am the internal doors were locked open after I complained but it didn't stop the other quests coming in and out of their rooms. The room doors were so loud, no soft close! I had no sleep and it completely ruined my daughters birthday day out the next day. To make it worst I specifically requested a quiet room which they said was noted! ! The window frame was falling apart, so even if the banging doesn't affect you the traffic and the birds calling at 5am will! I love bird song but when you have had zero sleep and you can hear outside noise as clear as day I did not feel it. Even with the window shut my finger fitted through the closed frame!

Found a fantastic spa deal to stay here on a Sunday night. Room was lovely, newly refurbished, clean and very comfy bed. Spa was enjoyable, although the pool/jacuzzi was cold!! The Cameo bar and restaurant were also recently refurbished and menu was lovely. Food was delicious but service was very slow. All staff were lovely and helpful and the building is beautiful! We'd definitely stay here again.

Location great as just off the motorway yet set back in some lovely woodland area. Hotel looks lovely and old fashioned (if you like that kind of thing - I do) Rooms were spacious and clean. Evening food and service was great. My issue was with the toilet in my room, it kept me awake all night making a load mechanical noice, every 30 mins or so. On check out the lady didn't bother asking me how my stay was or asking if I'd like breakfast. It was such a large hotel and I was so tired, I didn't know which way to walk to get breakfast nor did I have the energy to go back to reception to ask. I ended up walking to my car and going home for food and catching up on sleep. Very disappointed 😞

I was there for an evening event. Although the room was a little basic the staff were fantastic. By chance I was there near Halloween and most of the staff were in full-on costume and make-up. The event went very well and the meal was great. If I'm back in that area I will be staying there again.

We attended a funeral wake at the Dunkenhaulgh Hotel , along with 200+ others. On arrival ,the room was freezing cold , the heaters hadnt been turned on. It was -2 degrees outside . Everybody at the wake were sat with hats scarfs and coats on. The staff were very helpful behind the bar and tried their best to keep some warmth in. The beef hotpot on offer was very nice too. The only complaint was the room was coldfrom start to finish.

Went with a friend. Had a lovely spa afternoon, including afternoon tea. Would have liked the afternoon tea after we had used the facilities, though. Staff very friendly. Facilities clean and tidy. Sat outside afterwards and enjoyed the peace and quiet with a lovely bottle of wine. Had a lovely time. Would definitely return.

Beautiful period property with extensive facilities including corporate and wedding services. Looking a bit tired in places, but the friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and great restaurant make up for this. Great sized rooms with a modern feel. Recommended and would gladly visit again.

Wonderful hotel surrounded by beautiful countryside without being off the beaten track. Great sized rooms and comfy bed with everything you need for a few nights stay. Stacey in the spa was lovely and friendly. Aziz who warmly greeted us upon arrival and frequently checked in with us during our stay was a credit to the team. All in all it was an amazing weekend escape and we will be back!

The hotel was value for money, (booked pre pandemic though) the staff were confusing, and there was confusion over what a late check out was between them! Me and my friend had a back/scalp massage, and it was the worst we've had, ever! Speechless! By both therapists too!

Absolutely fantastic hotel! Me and the girls had the spa with treatment, dinner in the hotel restaurant and bed and breakfast, we could not fault one single thing. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms were lovely very clean and everything is fresh I assume they have had a refurbishment. The food was outstanding, the spa amazing! The staff were lovely, very friendly, very helpful they couldn't do enough for us. Especially to the dinner staff and the lovely spa ladies. I highly recommend this hotel and spa and we will most certainly be returning. Thank you for the wonderful experience and we will be seeing you again soon.

Absolutely gorgeous place. We attended a wedding last week. I found it the best wedding venue so far. Must visit again.

We came for a day retreat to enjoy the spa. We really enjoyed the place, the service was so lovely. The facilities are very clean, and overall we had a ball at the saunas and the pool which weren't too crowded. We had two treatments that left us feeling very luxurious. It was well worth the price and would love to come back!

Have stayed here a few times over the years and always enjoyed my stay. Rooms are clean & fresh and the beds are very comfortable. Stayed there just over a week ago and the only negative is the dinner menu was greatly reduced with few options hence the 4 stars but the breakfasts are absolutely fantastic. Looking forward to staying there again.

We went for a spa day on a wowcher and had such a super time! The staff are fabulous, the afternoon tea was gorgeous, the facilities were clean and enjoyable although a little rabbit Warren to find our way back to the lockers. We had the facial treatment, I felt the offer should of been body feet or hands. We had to look around the 700 year old gorgeous building and it's grounds- great day out. I would highly recommend!!

It's a nice please and staff are friendly, but it's clearly understaffed at the moment. It took over 2 hours from our check in time to get out room ready. Food is pricey but delicious. The spa looked nice but also very busy so we didn't bother visiting. The grounds have potential but in need of a tidy up.

  • 4/5 Janet A. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely hotel, the rooms are clean and spacious. The food at dinner was very well cooked and tastes wonderful. Staff were polite and helpful. The spa has a lovely selection of steam rooms and sauna, plus a swimming pool and cafe. I had massage which was wonderful in a tranquil setting. I went for a two night spa break with dinner and breakfast. The only downside is that it's very close to the motorway but it's well shielded and the noise is not too intrusive.

Just had a magnificent Christmas dinner: generous portions, thoroughly well cooked (but not dry) meat, tasty and crispy vegetables with just the right amount of light seasoning, delicious gravy, airy and light crunchy roast potatoes, appropriate trimmings and all served on a very warm plate; quite perfect really. The Christmas pudding was just like home made. It scores as one of the best ever Christmas dinners and definitely compliments to the chef and the cheerfully polite servers.

We stayed over from 24th December to 27th December. The room was wonderfully designed and decorated. The radiator was not working, but they happily brought a portable heater to the room as the staff on the desk didn't know how to work them, which was acceptable for when we were staying. We had to order food in due to dining being closed, but takeaways were plenty. The bed was very comfortable one of the best I've stayed in. All in all it was a good stay and the staff where grate.

We loved the hotel. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our room and bathroom were fantastic. We had everything we needed and more and it was very clean. The pool and steam rooms plus the gym were an extra bonus. Loved our stay and will definitely be back

Did not actually stay, but my friend is staying there, he booked us a Christmas afternoon tea, what a joke, there was no table set, the young man on the bar didn’t have a clue, he finally got us one stand with about 3 slices of bread cut into strips which were made into sandwiches, there were two scones, which were stale and a couple of little chocolate tarts, great if you like chocolate “ which I don’t “ there was nothing Christmassy on there we where supposed to have a fizzy wine, we did not get it, no plates or cutlery no serviettes, I wouldn’t care but there was only 4 people in there including us. It was £22.50 each but we only got one between us. It was a complete waste of time, would not recommend.

Excellent service from the very helpful chap working behind the bar. Christopher made our stay even more special with his excellent customer service. Would definitely recommend and will most definitely be staying again

Nice place to stay. I ordered the gnocchi for my main meal and I was given enough to feed two people. Swimming pool nice too. Only reason not giving 5 star as the pillows were like bricks despite very comfy mattress. Also sticky toffee pudding not warm.

Stayed here Thursday night. Arrived at 19.00, booked in, dropped our bags off in our large, clean room, bathroom very large with a small towel radiator and met relatives in the bar. Sara serving behind the bar was more interested in taking and looking at her male friend's phone that we felt a burden to her that we had to ask her to concentrate on serving our drinks. When he left we went up to the bar again for more drinks, Sara came over, went behind the bar and walked to the restaurant without saying anything to us, eg I will be back in a minute etc. Felt she needed a crash course on communication and dealing with customers. We had read reviews prior to booking and yes this place at times were cold but it is an old building with tall ceilings and took our coats with us, I'm sure in warmer times it would be a totally different stay. Food was good at Breakfast and the waiters very pleasant.

Would not recommend. Rooms are dated and cold. No hot water - was only lukewarm when showered in the evening, but freeing in the AM! Was told when too many guests shower it trips the fuse and the boiler goes off. Was made to feel like it was my fault when asked about this by two different staff members. Phones in the room don't work and no phones in the hall way - the key cards are weak, hold them anywhere near your phone and you have to make the very long walk back to reception to get them set again. Cant access the leisure facilities without the paper card sleeve that holds your room key?! Don't bring it and thats another walk to reception (do they not have a phone either?!) And why oh why do the bar staff members have to staple every single receipt rather than serving the long line of customers waiting? Food was good, gym is well stocked but that's it.

Paid same price for our room that our parents did and theirs was twice the size. Also, we were above karaoke that went till 1am. Didn't book room last minute and reception didn't warn us this would be taking place. Also reported a heating fault to reception and they didn't turn up when they said they would. Otherwise a lovely hotel

When we arrived there were signs on the car park stating a 24hr fee of £20. Luckily we only live a couple of miles away. We drove home and got a taxi. We were then told that parking charges were suspended when we arrived at the wedding. Our friends did exactly the same. Not a great start!! On arrival at the wedding reception there was a long queue, that cleared after the first hour or so. Prices we quite high. After all these things we still have a lovely evening celebrating a friend's wedding. Wouldn't honestly recommend hosting a wedding that after that experience, but would happily stop over in the hotel some time.

Being the first time in many years we was excited to stay away in a hotel. Our room was lovely the dressing robes were rock hard & made me giggle I’m not a huge girl but it only just fit around me! Great touch with the slippers! The room was freezing cold we tried to get the heating to come on with no luck we rang the reception who said they were sending someone we waiting a hour but as we was going to a family wedding evening do we couldn’t wait much longer. We used the shower when we got back where we realised it was leaking in the floor. The bed was so comfy!! I slept amazing I didn’t want to get up for breakfast 😫 the breakfast was lovely I had healthy fruit & musli hubby had full English loads of coffee tea serviced! Staff were amazing so friendly hopefully. The coffee in the room wasn’t great so I’m looking forward to a superb coffee when I’m home. ☕️ Would I stay here again yes!!
