Worthwhile if you have time. 30min-1hr detour. DRIVE: the drive is the deciding factor if this Beach is worth while or not. It is a 15min drive in both directions along a hard dirt road with minimal potholes and overall very smooth. However this is the steepest mountain road I have been on. Very tight switchbacks with speed limits of 20km/h. In the summer it is possible in all types of cars and will be a memorable experience. Just take your time and you will be fine. PARKING: when you get to the form in the road turn right and drive 3-5 min down the road until you reach a black church on the ride hand side. Park here. Attraction: During low tide it is a massive white sand beach you can walk out and explore. Very beautiful sight to see such a massive untouched beach. From the parking spot walk down the road just a bit and you will come across a primitive road on your left. Walk along this road until you cross two bridges. From here you can follow trails through the grass to the beach You can walk all the way to the ocean. Just be cognizant if the tide is going out or in. TIP: Wear water socks, or waterproof boots as you will have to pass through a few low pools of water.

Beautiful, quiet place where you can surf! (Just make sure you have a warm wetsuit and boots! Water has like 10 degrees...) Camp is basic but does the trick. Only beware of flies so take some repellent..

A must visit on a sunny day at low tide. With parking at the church, the walk to the beach features vast lands of sand just barely covered with water so the reflection of the sky is amazing. Beware of bringing a backpack. My husband brought one and the birds literally attacked him thinking it had food so we had to turn around.

Beautiful, remote location. Quite a long drive, but worth it even in the rain. My husband and I were the only ones there and got to enjoy the quietness and bird watching. Good bathrooms with warm shower and plenty of toilets.

If the visibility ceiling is low, as in there's fog or light rain/mist, I don't recommend driving over. We did this and it was not the best experience. We drove well past the black church expecting to see some kind of red sand beach. It was not majestic, vast or awe inspiring for us. I'm wearing light pink shoes and the sand just looks like a sand color. When we drove back up, we could see a bit of the reddish hues, but it was thick with fog and we just didn't see much. There's no signage to direct us anywhere without any visual queues.

What a wide, gorgeous beach. The sand is soft and beautiful. I went on a cloudy day but my breath was still taken away. The drive from Flokalunder was all easy paved but the last 30km or so was gravel, up and down, steep, curvy mountains but doable even in my front wheel drive campervan. On the way there you get to see a stranded ship too.

My favorite beach in Iceland. Around high tide it's a mile hike across a glassy lake of inch deep water to the beach

If you like the feeling of standing completely alone in an unbelievable expanse of nature, then grab a water bottle, pack a sandwich and make the drive and the walk. Absolutely worth it!

Surreal red beach. 15 mins walk from parking area to the beach. Watch out for the tide. Nearly got trapped out on the beach when the tide came back in. It comes in fast! Recommend going in low tide. Gravel road takes 30 mins from main road.

Just went there today in the late afternoon. The gravel road into the beach is not horrible, just had to take it slow. The view to the beach when driving in was beautiful. The sand was pinkish beige and was beautiful against the blue water and green hillside. We didn’t take the nature path but took a path through some of the grassy dunes and onto the sandy beach. It was low tide and so the water was very far out. After we came back, we stopped by the lovely cafe by the beach for some warm drinks and snacks. To our surprise, when we looked back out to the beach after we sat down, the tide has come in super quickly and completely covered the area we were walking on. It was a great place to spend an hour or two on our roadtrip.
