It's a must experience if you are interested in Volcanoes and this type of activity. In the caves is between 12 to 14 degrees Celsius so dress accordingly. Trainers are fine but hiking shoes are better. In my opinion level of difficulty is low, you don't need to be fit to go and explore those amazing caves. Our guide Mary was great and very knowledgeable. All trip very well organised and totally worth the money.

There seems to be a lot of people who expect this to be some kind of spelunking adventure over several kilometers of tunnel and then complain when they 'only' get to see 250m of cave. These people should do more research before booking as all the information is clearly shown on the website. The whole tour is awesome and the guide (Michael) was great. 250m of tunnels is perfectly suitable for what this tour is - an educational tour (inside and outside of the tunnels) with first hand examples of the tunnels, types of lava, formations etc. In short - no one gets to see the 18km of tunnels unless they are a scientist with a permit from the authorities and even this is a very select group of people. The reason for this (apart form the obvious safety concerns) is due to the very fragile nature of these tunnels preserving formations up to 27 000 years old... Highly recommended!

What a fantastic experience. This should be high on the list to visit whilst on the Island. Approx 2km of made safe for tourists underground lava tunnels to explore under the expert guidance of a tour guide. A Safety helmet with light is provided as there is no natural light once in the tunnels. What you get to see and walk through is what the lava flows have left behind on in this case level two of up to 3 levels of tunnels lava flows creates once they have hardened, as the lava levels also dropped following the eruptions in this area which historically lasted 10 months. You enter the tunnels via what is deemed a sky light downwards via metal steps. Most of the walk is on uneven hardened lava rock (so moderate difficulty as an activity for most) but at key points metal stairways have been erected for visitors safety and experience. The photographs attached do not really do the visit justice. Our tour guide was excellent with lots of historical and geological information given throughout the visit. Well worth the price and a few hours of your time whilst in Tenerife.

Guides storytelling kept us engaged while the experiment was one of a kind. Can be very hot before going into the cave (summer) whilst cooling off inside the tunnel. Not your typical cave experience.

The instructure was amazing, so informative and interesting. We felt very safe to follow her steps inside the cave. The tour starts at the Cueva del Viento information center. There is a private parking lot for the center and you can park there for free. The tour takes about 2.5 hours total. There are about 40 min of explanation. Then they drive you close to the entrance of the cave. There is a few minutes walk that includes explanations. And then 1.5 of tour inside the cave. I highly recommend taking this tour!!!

Very interesting place. The information they tell you about lava tubes gives this place much more meaning. It was very cool for children with our guide who was giving them fun tasks to explore etc

Super experience, and super guide! Alehandro is an entertaining and professional guide and made me laugh, smile and absorb the information about “some caves” like its the best thing ever. He’s like that cool teacher back from school 😄 Highly recommended. This is owned by spanish gov. So no stupid picture charges - guides take them for free with a smile :)

We took one of the tours through the caves, which is definitely worth the time and money. Make sure to dress for a little colder environment. It took me a little while to get used to the very directive ways of the guide but he's a friendly bloke with excellent knowledge of the caves and volcanism in general.

Excellent tour of the lava tunnels. The tour of the lava tunnels was very informative and well run and lasts around 2 hours. We booked online and it costs 20 euros for adults. They have tours in Spanish, German, English and all the guides seem fluent in those languages. It explained how the tunnels were made and eco system around them. The guide was called Mark who did a great job.

Worth paying a visit. Two hours of fun, very interesting information and diving into the world of volcanos and lava. Dangerous beautiful and magical exploration of sole foundation of the Tenerife existence. The church is on right down below visitor centre once you pass it the next road on left is where the facilities are and beyond that car park to the left. Caves are in different location.

Great trip down a lava tube. The guide was very good and had a lot of knowledge about almost everything. Great parking at the visitor center and the bus ride to the park is only 5 minutes. Then walk through the forest and then down the underground. Highly recommend.

Nice experience! It is easily accessible for everyone (except for people who are not able to walk due to the tricky ground). Helmets and headlamps are included in the tour. Basically the experience includes a briefing in which they explain how the island originated and the different types of lava. Afterwards they drive you to the entrance of the tunnel where they explain in detail what you see. The tour lasts about one hour and on the way back you take another path. The guides are quite enthusiastic whenever they meet someone who's genuinely interested in rocks. I really liked it.

The guide was very friendly, he told us a lot of useful informations, took us photos and answered any question we had. I hope he's paid well, because you can rarely find a guide so passionate! And if Google Maps tells you to take a narrow road up the hill through the woods to the location, don't.

Great experience. The guide was very knowledgeable about everything. Good parking near the visitor center. Small drive in bus and then walk through the park to the lava tube.

This is something that everyone should see and know about. I did not know that these lava tubes are existing, I found it on the map while I was browsing, what to do. Boy I am glad I did. Very interesting, unique, it gives such a knowledge about the surroundings that you actually walk around in Tenerife. The cave is very interesting, I am looking forward to visit again when the lower floors will be accessible. Our new favourite word now is pahoehoe lava. Special thanks to Francisco, our guide, to make the tour interesting AND fun. Recommended to check the website and register for the tour in advance.

The tour was fantastic - extremely informative and so engagingly and professionally delivered. You really get a sense that the lava tubes are so much more than a tourist attraction. Safety is taken extremely seriously, but at no point does it hinder the fascinating content. I had a wonderful time.

You need to buy tickets in advance on their official website. Very hard to get there by foot, so the car shall be your only choice if you are unused to long hikes up. Nice guide , beautiful forrest and quite a plain cave (because it's volcanic obviously) but happy to see it anyway.

What an amazing experience! I am so happy to find out this place while on Tenerife. Maria is so proffesional guide and shared a lot of info with us. Top experience from the beginning till the end. Make sure to book in advance on their website.

We had an amazing time on our tour of the lava tubes, Mary had all the facts, and explained in amazing detail how everything had formed and developed into the forms you see today. The tour actually starts in the beautiful pine forests, with an introduction to the wildlife, flora and fauna of the area above ground, which is a beautiful place to be. Next is to go through the forest to the opening into the tunnels, you get a hard hat and light- anyone fearing claustrophobia, it's not that small down there. Mary showed us all the amazing details and explained how everything formed, it's really breathtaking to see in person. A fascinating part of the experience was turning off the lights and experiencing total darkness! Overall, fascinating place to see, very friendly and informative guide, would definitely recommend! Just remember to bring appropriate footwear and watch your step!

A great and educational experience! The staff love what they do and care about the fragile nature of these volcanic caves and its biodiversity. Our guide educated and guided us first through the forest while showing the different examples of volcanic stones and its effect on the environment. Once you enter the cave you get astonished by how different it looks compared to other caves around Europe, due to it being volcanic tubes. It's well worth the visit when you go to Tenerife. Just make sure to book in advance! Because there's only a select amount of people allowed in these fragile caves per day. We had to book a week in advance in October.

We were very lucky and had the chance to get 3 free spaces for the volcanic tour in German language with our guide Dragan (a reservation upfront is definitely very recommended, since only small groups -15 people max- can make this tour to protect the environment as much as possible). Here we definitely learned a lot new information about volcanos. Our guide explained everything very patiently to us and answered also all of our questions. After a short drive and a little walk over the ancient kings roads, we finally entered the lava tube. It’s only a 200m long part, that is made available to the public, but this already gave a very good impression of what this flowing 1200 degree celcius hot lava was able to create. We were very impressed and can highly recommend this tour!

Francisco our guide is an endless source of information about volcanoes, the cave, the Flóra and fauna of Canarias and the local food. He is also a madman driving but that's part of the Canarian-Spanish temperament. 😉

To be honest I was going there with quite high expectations.. the worst part is that I want to become a geologist now! It is amazing to make a visit to a cave where you can explore a real cave not full of lights and guided walk.. Just exploring with a scientist. I never experienced something similar before, and I am afraid I never will do something similar again.

Very nice tour. We learned a lot about volcanoes, different kinds of lava and Canary Islands. It was very interesting. The tour started with a short video about different kind of lava and explanation from the guide. Then we went for a hike to reach the volcanic tube (approximately an hour). For the walk in the tube itself you should better take trekking shoes as adviced on the website. I've booked the tickets in advance. I would recommend to do the same as the tours for the whole day were fully booked.

Definitely I recommend this place! The office its going up a very steep street, but they offer a parking area, not in front their office but a little more to the inside of the street. The parking its closed for the night.. which was a little disappointing as we went on a van and wanted to spend the night there before doing the tour next day first thing when they opened. Very important to book in advance or they won’t have a gap for you.

The guide (a woman but I unfortunately forget her name) was amazing. She was passionate about the lava tubes and the island. So it was a pleasure to listen her. She made it easy for everyone to understand

Very well organised trip. Our tour guide was extremely passionate about his job. He gave a lot of good insights and small jokes about the volcano tubes. I would say this is a top 3 attraction in the Tenerife.

An amazing experience, a unique experience to travel within a volcano with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide to explain it all. It's made our visit to Tenerife more enjoyable as we now understand the landscape that we are walking through.

Amazing experience with a very knowledgeable and professional guide. A must if you're in Tenerife and I would recommend booking it online in advance and taking the tour in the beginning of your trip, you'll be able to appreciate the islands from a different perspective after this!

A hidden jem of Tenerife and an experience well worth it, and the guide Drago: one of the best guides on planet earth.... was outstanding and made this escursion even more special with interesting geological, historical, geographical and antropological info. I came away from this experience with a much deeper interest and understanding about the nature, history and state of the islands... especially in this timeframe during the La Palma eruptions.

Pretty much a natural experience of a lava cave. 10/10 would recommend again. Only downside is climbing the hill to the visitor center if you're not traveling by car 🤷 Although there s a bus station around 1 km from there.

  • 5/5 Jordan Y. 1 year ago on Google
The lava cave walk with Francisco is not a cave walk, It's rather a short interactive experience. It will take you only few hours to finish it. As I see, for many people this walk is something more than just a simple hike. It gives them some kind of mystical journey, even reveals the secret of life. Strange and yet beautiful and emotionally moving. The walk is not really a walk it's more of an experience that is definitely worth experiencing and will bring up questions of high philosophical nature. Hands down the best lava cave experience I've had. I can now say when someone asks me have I walked on lava? Yes. Have I touched lava? Yes. Have I felt the energy? Yes. My curriculum vitae is now far more extensive with my knowledge. Funny, challenging and you’ll come away with more knowledge than when you left and thanks to Francisco you will be richer than when you left. Because being rich is knowledge. Warning: May cause an existential crisis and force you to re-evaluate your life 10/10

We'd been trying to get to visit here for years. It's tricky to get to if you don't have a car (very steep roads leading up to it, so we passed on that option). We got a taxi from Puerto de la Cruz for e27. You start in the visitor centre getting an overview of what you're going to see, then off a steep hill to the entrance. I would guess we spent about an hour in the cave-it felt safe at all times, just bring sturdy shoes as the floor is not smooth. Then out again to see some countryside and back to the visitor centre. We walked down to Icod which wasn't the greatest idea, very sore thighs the next day!
