This is our favorite part of Shiga. The area tends to be less crowded and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed the snow monsters in this area more than Zao, which tends to be extremely crowded and the weather is more unpredictable. The mountains and skiing are amazing. Highly recommend checking into this area if you are visiting Shiga.

Yokoteyama is the highest point in Shiga Kogen. That said it is easily accessible by car and the free shuttle bus from Yamanoeki. If you take the bus get off at Yokoteyama ski resort, you can buy ski lift passes here and it is also has a lunch cafeteria and toilets. There are hotels further up the mountain, but if they are full, they close their restaurants to non-guests. The runs from the bottom of Yokoteyama link into Kumano yu and go right to the top of the mountain.

Perfect resort for intermediate skiers, and because it’s off the beaten track, you will have the place to yourselves. We came for the Christmas holidays and didn’t queue once for the ski lifts! The powder was well groomed and even in the late afternoon you could find sections of the piste that had not been skied on from the night before - a dream! A great secret gem close to the “Snow Monkeys”. We enjoyed the restaurants and the fries chicken and wedges were a hit with the kids. The ramen and the borscht also looked amazing! We’ll be back!

Yokoteyama / Shibu-Toge ski resort is the Japan’s highest ski resort, the top of the resort is 2,307m. Visited at the end of April, the feet of the mountains were what people enjoying cherry blossoms, but here Yokoteyama was completely winter, -10 deg at early morning and ski lovers were enjoying. Free car parking lots are available but not so big, credit card and some QR code payments are acceptable .

Great skiing, easy to follow maps / signs on the slopes around. Quiet slopes and easy to rent gear at the slopes (jacket, salopetes, helmets, boots, skis etc)

As a beginner this place was great! Caught a shuttle from our hotel to here. The ski lift goes up to steeper courses but the main track is wide and pretty flat.

Amazing place for all level skiers. There are safe tree runs, each course is well categorized for each levels. When it's clear, you can see entire Japan North Alps as well as Mt. Fuji from the top. There is a bakery on the top, which fulfill your stomach and heart! You'll never regret at this place :)

Great ski area for intermediate skiers. We were treated with the Best weather and Top snow conditions. Visibility was awesome, even could see Mt Fuji. Lifts work smooth and are safe.

What a place to ski! The powder was perfect in the Shibutoge side -- the slopes were groomed with lots of nice spots to go off piste for untouched powder. The visibility was low at first, but once the clouds blew away, we were treated with beautiful views. We had lunch at Mt. Yokote Hyatt famous for the bread. The borscht soup with bread set was perfect to warm the belly. Lovely view from this restaurant too! One drawback of this resort is it doesn't have many slopes. We pretty much went up and down the same couple of slopes.

Nice long run from the top of yokoteyama to the bottom. It can get a little icy in the middle of the temperature rises. Shibutoge is usually a powder paradise. Short runs but lots of trees and natural jumps. Tatsy food at the restaurant at the top.

Beautiful resort Some lovely runs Can see for miles when the sky is blue Have been told that Mount Fuji can be seen from here Unfortunately we did not see it the clouds came in to spoil our view Must check bus timetable carefully

Nice place to ski, the slopes are well kept. The ski lifts are a bit too slow and outdated in one there is no protection bar!
