Enjoyed my visit to the Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis- especially worth a visit during their Festival of Trees. I really liked learning about Madam C.J. Walker, one of the exhibits currently on display, a fascinating story! The Indiana Historical Society offers 3 time period actors you can interact with and ask questions related to that exhibit. This was quite interesting. The cafe looks delicious, and the gift shop is well stocked. We were there during the Festival of the Trees which was festive to see. Several trees have hidden pickle ornaments you can hunt for as you tour around. We spent about 2+ hours here.

Great museum! We visited this museum during museum day in September when it was free admission . The staff is present all around the museum and was friendly and helpful. The exhibition was interesting and interactive! It kept my 10YO daughter engaged in each part. The whole building is spacious and have a nice ambiance with classical music playing . We were able to grab a quick and affordable lunch in the café at the lower level and eat on the patio with view on the canal and that was nice .

Having come from the South before moving to Indiana, I admire the fact that Hoosiers have a great appreciation for history. This place is representative of that. The museum's galleries do change and they uses digital technologies. The staff is pretty friendly and approachable (well...most). Also, if you're a researcher like me, the archives holds a vast amount of archival materials.

A very lovely building with many events throughout the year. A favorite of our family is seeing the Christmas Tree exhibit each season!

Reasonable admittance price, friendly and helpful staff, and a variety of exhibits. The staff provided information on the exhibits before you enter and are more than willing to answer questions. Cool to see the room where they restore old documents.

Cool little museum of Indiana culture and history. Diverse collection with changing exhibits. It's also right next to the downtown canal walk. Handicap accessible, and you'll need about an hour. Go and enjoy.

The Christmas tree festival is one of my kids favorite stops during the holiday season. The pickle search and finding our favorite tree can only be topped by the delicious cookies we get at the Cafe. Highly recommend. You can also visit the history exhibits which are excellently done.

The Festival of trees is a beautiful tradition for us now. The cafe located at canal level is reasonably priced and has a gluten free pizza option.

The section on Eva Kor, Holocaust survivor, was my absolute favorite! Ask her any questions and she'll respond! This really had a lot of amazing areas, with VR and holograms - just a great place to visit!

Great place to spend time in with a lot of history to learn from... and during the holiday season (November, December 2023), a 78 Christmas Trees to see... 🎄😄

Went for the festival of trees and it was really cool. What a great event for them to have and 75 trees decorated. What a wonderful holiday treat.

Went for the last day of The Festival of Trees. Loved it! Do wish the Stardust Cafe offered at least coffee/cocoa/tea/soft drinks, & maybe snacks, later than 3:00p. Otherwise, I love the facility & all it offers (it was a lovely venue for a small wedding I sang at a few years ago).

The Exhibits here are truly Amazing! In particular we loved the Madam CJ Walker Exhibit. Even has a Remake of the Model T car she drove. Also there the Indianapolis Women's club and the Music exhibition is quite an experience! Will visit again.

We went for the festival of trees at winter. The trees were amazing 70 some trees Christmas trees decorated and made to be representing a certain thing and it was absolutely just fun to go see.

Good experience but not a lot to see. The building is absolutely massive but they really only have maybe 3 good exhibits. Each of those is really well done but overall it just wasn't a lot of content for the price. Still worth a stop if you're trying to take in some of the history and museums in Indianapolis. I love to support any local historical society so would always recommend a visit just to show support.

I truly believe this museum is a wonderful place. The restaurant is great! The food is good and the staff is amazing. When you are finished, take a walk around the canal. You will be glad you did.

Not sure what I expected but the museum underwhelmed me. Yet, the women portraying Madam C.J. Walker was outstanding in representing this important historic figure.

Trees were beautiful, people were nice... Had a great time. I forgot to mention the food at the cafeteria. It was absolutely amazing. You really want to try that while you're there.

Such a wonderful resource for history lovers and genealogical researchers. I could spend hours amongst the books, registries, and records. This is a hidden gem, a very lovely building with a trove of historical items. There's also a superb gift shop with unique and interesting items.

A good local history museum with interactive exhibits. Step through the portals into the past and "meet" figures from Indiana's history. Great for kids and smaller groups.

It was a lovely museum, and a phenomenal gift shop. I truly enjoyed learning about how they repair historic books, and photographs. They have a fantastic section of historical books/library. I felt as though it was more of a general museum, and not really focused on the history of Indiana? Since it is listed as the Indiana Historical Society/Museum I expected to learn more of Indiana’s history? I actually learned much more about Indiana, on my free tour at the State House nearby. Museum has a nice entrance to the canal, and I appreciated free parking with admission to the museum.

The architecture was beautiful. The staff were friendly but not overbearing. The exhibits were interesting enough to engage the whole family.
