5/5 Kyoto Dream T. 4 years ago on Google
A
few
weeks
ago,
I
had
to
be
in
Nagoya
City,
and
I
was
taking
my
wife
to
a
radio
interview.
Because
of
the
COVID-19
restrictions,
my
wife
didn't
want
to
use
public
transportation.
So,
I
drove
her
and
visited
the
Shirotori
Garden.
It
was
a
beautiful
spring
day
with
not
so
many
people
around.
Although
it
was
a
little
too
early
for
the
cherry
blossoms,
there
were
plenty
of
photo
opportunities.
The
garden
is
a
little
oasis
in
the
middle
of
the
bustling
town
of
Nagoya.
Adapted
from
the
brochure:
The
Shirotori
Garden
is
a
Japanese-style
garden
with
a
path
running
along
the
banks
of
streams
and
ponds.
The
mound
at
the
southwestern
corner
of
the
garden
represents
Mt.Ontake
and
the
stream
originating
from
the
mound,
the
Kiso
River.
In
the
centre
of
the
garden
lies
the
Seiu-tei,
a
complex
of
tea
ceremony
rooms.
Seiu-tei
was
designed
after
the
image
of
a
swan,
or
"shirotori",
flying
down
to
rest
its
wings.
Located
in
the
middle
of
Shirotori
Garden,
this
is
in
the
authentic
Sukiya
style,
the
traditional
architecture
of
the
tea
ceremony
cottage.
It
stands
on
the
edge
of
the
water.
In
building
it,
Sukiya
carpenters
from
Kyoto
used
nature's
materials
to
the
best
advantage.
