Beautiful. A must see in the area. Nice path, some steps...kinda steep in spots. 3/4 mile trail. Bring bug spray!!!

Hiking the NCT and visiting all of the waterfalls along the Black River in Michigan is pure Michigan, pure Nature, pure NCT miles, pure Waterfall chasing. There are 4-5 stops, 4 waterfalls, several hundred steps down and up again, well kept boardwalks and a million opportunities to take pictures that are stunning. Take your time, it is worth the waterfall trails at a minimum.

My favorite of the local waterfalls, there were huge chunks of conglomerate stone with crystals lining the edges of the falls.

Great falls. Hike is short and not bad, lots of steps but not horrible. Falls are viewed from a platform but you can get upstream of them.

This is a fabulous little waterfall! A short hike (walk) through the woods on a well maintained trail leads you to this small waterfall. Check it out, you'll be happy you did.

Great falls. Short hike. Be aware there are a lot of stairs for the falls along the black river. Well maintained and beautiful trail but a good idea to take breaks if hiking stairs will be difficult.

Lovely! Warning...the hike to the falls is not friendly to those with motility disability. The falls are lovely and roaring, the approaching Black River is shallow at the falls and easily traversed, if you want to play in the water on a hot day. I highly recommend a visit to all of the falls along the Black River.

The first official waterfall and stop on the Black River National Scenic Byway. The trail is fairly flat to sloping down and 3/4 of a mile one way. The falls are large and difficult to capture in a photograph. There is a small, well marked parking lot here and the trail was in pretty good shape.

There are a bunch of trails which lead to the river or one long one that goes from the front to the back. When we went the bugs were not bad at all, make sure you bring some water though. There are some elevation changes with, in some cases, many stairs.

We hiked the path in mid-Sept. The bugs weren't an issue at all. There was very little evidence of birds but there was a wonderful panoply of fungi, mosses, and lichen to observe. It is a fairly easy walk down to the falls as long as one can navigate steps. The path is wide and stable. At the end, there's a platform for enjoying the falls. What goes down must come back up but with a few stops here and there, we did well with the hike back up. (we are moderately fit). There were two benches places at a few spots along the steepest climb. At no time was my fear of heights triggered and I think a walking stick might prove useful but I didn't feel I needed one.
