This is a big picnic location in a natural environment. Great South Bay on the south side. Heckscher field parking 6 is huge too. This place has hundreds of seating, benches, tables, and a lot of BBQ pit. It is a place of adequate safety and security. It has men's and women's changing rooms by the bay.

Live on long island and decided to stay in their cabins for a few nights. I have mixed feelings Pros- serene and beautiful surrounded by nature - close to lots of restaurants, shopping ect - park has alot to do; beaches, multiple playgrounds, frisbee golf, bike trail, camping ect - cabin itself is minimal but beautiful deck/patio Cons- way to expensive for what they provide and a three night minimum (when I booked atleast) $225 per night came to $700+. - counted about 20 dead crickets over the course of three days and a few alive in our cabin. - Toooo many mosquitos, I came home with to many bites to count for someone that was in a cabin and not a tent - bed is terrible - cabin is stocked with bar minimum and they take a $200 deposit. Seems excessive especially since they make clear you should sweep daily and clean a bit before you leave - No T.V. and slow wifi All in all we had a nice relaxing time, my husband loved waking up every day and having coffee in the screened in patio. I just honestly rather go camping if I'm going to deal with so many bugs and bites, it's not worth the price tag.

This is an absolutely beautiful park. The cabins are incredible and right on the water. The cabin was well equipped and very clean.Out of the many New York state parks I've been to, this has to be my favorite. The check in process was also the best experience. Phil was extremely nice and everyone else in the office was so friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back!

Hugh park with plenty room for an improvement. The entry fee is $8. There are three cricket pitches in one of the fields. Pitches have hard concrete under the matting, so cricket leather ball doesn't bounce much. You can easily hit ball on the rise without getting worried about bounce. Outfield is quick, and plenty of room for an improvement in terms of outfield is concern. I hope in years to come, Cricket facility will be improved. This park is also widely used by the new drivers who are learning to drive since 3 miles round trip at 25 miles per hour speed limit gives good driving opportunity. You will find plenty of wildlife in this park. There is no entrance fee during winter time. Field 7 parking lot is the best for the sunset in the wintertime where you can remain in the warmth of your car and watch sun going down since the parking lot is right next to the beach. You will find lots of birds on the field 7 parking lot during the winter.

I love this park, we had so much fun. The park is very clean and organized. There is kids area with a playground. They have clean restrooms with 🧻🧻🧻! They also have built in grills all over the park with benches. I love this park it’s very big. (We were in field2)

It’s strange to say this but this park is a hidden gem!! Very underutilized for the most part. I come here to walk, ride my bike (great bike trails) or just sit and take it all in. A beautiful place to meditate or just clear your head of day to day stressors. Come visit and enjoy!!

Went to see the beach and it was a bit smaller than I expected but the weather was very nice and I can imagine this place packed with people during summer time. We sat on a bench for a while listening to the ocean weave with birds songs. Just chilling there and relax. The google map was a bit confusing to me, and I was directed to a private office place in the park. But then I found my way to the beach. There were plenty of parking space and we also see cottage and camping area! Can’t wait for the summer time!

Good park especially if you live close. Has a ton more potential though. I'd love to see them reopen new refurbished pool area and offer a better beach experience. Has disk golf course which is unique to long Island. It is the southern terminus for the 32 mile greenbelt trail and stretches to North shores sunken meadow Park. I've see cricket games and a remote control airfield for model planes. There is tent camping as well as cabins to rent and even a boat launch.

Beautiful park! Plenty of trails for hiking and biking. We are intrigued by the cabins you can rent. From the pictures we've seen, they are beautiful! They beach was really clean and not too crowded.

Its a great park with baseball and soccer fields, basketball courts, disc golf and I've seen people playing cricket as well. It has a great beach and a field specifically for dogs. There a few playgrounds for the kids to play at with swings. Has a great paved path for bike riding and walking through the park. I love taking my kids there to get away from the house and off the screens.

This park is always clean. It is well maintained. I enjoy taking my best girl for a walk on the deck by the water. She enjoys the park as well. Adequate amount of well cared for benches to enjoy nature for a spell.

We went to Heckscher State Park (field 6) mid afternoon and the views were beautiful. No toll pay coming in because it's the Fall and off season. It was quiet, parking lot was clean, and just enough time to walk around before it got dark early. We ate in the parking lot for a but before getting ready to head towards the beach. Walking along the beach, it was really peaceful. There were still a few sandflies around, we were already in sneakers, hoodies and sweats to avoid getting bitten. It was a nice change to come here during the Fall besides the Summer. When we went, temperatures were warm with a slight wind, however it was great to just take the walk until the sun set. The next time we come back to Heckscher State Park, we want to check out the other fields. Field 6 had plenty of parking, public restrooms available, and cool views.

This amazing place is in a different league. You don’t feel like you’re in NY here. People are so nice. This place is massive. You can literally spend weeks here and not see everything. Do your research before coming here. There are numerous playgrounds here. One of the playground areas is adjacent to the water. There are also many paths through the woods. They even have cottages that can be rented out to sleep at. There is an entry fee during the season. This is an exceptional place. The playgrounds are acceptable and nice but there is nothing extraordinary about them.

Beautiful park that needs major improvements. Why cant NY dosomething? The roads need major work. It's like driving through a mine field. So many families come here and deserve better services.

Parking is a huge hassle. Great summer concerts. Beautiful park grounds and pond. Geese plus droppings everywhere. Bathrooms pretty good, if the floors are dry and mud free.

My favorite local park! Been coming here since I was a kid and still visit often. Really wish they would’ve kept the pool open though!

A large park with a circular four-lane highway going through it. There is plenty of parking lots all over the park as well as amenities such as playgrounds, basketball hoops, barbecue pits, and more. There is a good view of the beach from most locations. There is also an option to rent a cottage to stay during summers.

We're staying in the cottages for a nice little getaway without having to go too far from home. Beautiful beach views and peaceful surroundings. Dave at the food truck at field 8 is knowledgeable about the area and has great snacks! During off- peak, park seems a little understaffed.

Beautiful park. Great walking, running, and biking paths. Lots of picnic tables, BBQ, and children’s playgrounds. There are plenty of bathrooms some are renovated. Campsite and cottages for rent. I wish the pool was reopened. The driving lanes need to be repaved. I’m glad they aren’t doing the weekly mowing anymore and allowing more flora and fauna to exist there.

Beautiful open place and it feels safe too! Amazing place to go for a walk, a run, bike, and even bring the family in for a BBQ! It is perfect and away from any city skylines it truly feels like you're far away from city without having to drive so far!

Hecksher State Park has a really good bike path. It is 3.3 miles long, loops around Park ( it took me 30 minutes to complete a leisurely, sight seeing lap). It has path that leads off the loop to the Great South Bay beach. It is pretty safe for walkers and bicycle s.

A pleasant park I would say. Even though the grass and some areas is always dead, I think families will enjoy the activities available in this area. It’s a nice park to go for a walk, ride your bike, or just hang out around the beach😎

This is my new favorite hiking spot, particularly field 5. Starting out right along the water, you feel like you're instantly transported to another world. Large, gnarled wind-blown trees look down upon you, surrounded by reeds and birdsnests. As you continue on, you come across some lovely open fields, lush foliage, and a gentle ocean breeze. The magic of Long Island can truly be found here. This is what keeps me home. :)

Very big state park. The entrance fee is about $8. I went on a Saturday morning. Looks like you need to book before for an event. This is a very large park. Nice and clean road. There are many fields. Before going for an event, ask for which field. There are 6 fields . Clean restrooms and wide parking spaces are available.

It's a beautiful park located on the south shore right on the Great South Bay. Incredible amount of wildlife. Decent playgrounds for the kids. Has a paved bike path with some unpaved hiking trails. It's long island so remember the tick spray if you want to hike through the woods. Has restrooms I wish it had some kind of space to buy food or coffee it would definitely be a plus. All in all a park I like to go to with my kids

It's a beautiful park with plenty of amenities. A bike and hiking trail, campground, playground and beach. I rode from Brooklyn and camped out here. It was a pleasant stay, although it would have been nice to have a campfire.

Nice park, very clean. Kids had a great time playing and riding their bikes. Before leaving we went to the beach area and got our feet wet. The kids enjoyed it.

Beautiful park. At park for the NY State Summer Run Series. The ticks seem to be under control this year. There are much fewer bugs than previous visits to this park. We were pleasantly surprised! Go prepared anyway. It is a great spot to visit for their trails, beach, fishing, or barbecue.

Beautifull place!! Great place for a picnic/BBQ with family and friends. There is a beach and basketball courts too. Beach closed at 6 that day, idk if it was just that day or all the time. Also playing basketball on those courts is close to impossible lol. Cause the day we went it was superr windy and the fact that it's next to the beach meant it was even stronger, even layups wouldn't go in cause of the wind lol

I went there with my family just to chill out on a 4th of July, it's a big place with a bicycle roads, picnic areas, playground for kids and also near by the beach to have some fun in the water, it has bathrooms, clean water and plenty of parking space, nice sea views

  • 5/5 Debbie C. 2 years ago on Google
I love the way they cut a path through the grass from the cottage to the beach where you can view the water. Beautiful.

Clean. Picturesque. Surrounded by nature. I would recommend this place to anyone wishing to camp and get away with family and friends. There are also stores nearby to accommodate any needs. I look forward to returning to this camp site.
