Do not come here. Those of us who know and love this park want the paths to stay quiet and clean, the wildlife undisturbed and the trails well-marked. Oh OK, you can come, but please respect our beautiful park. You can expect great, level-ground hiking on well-tended trails in tranquil forests along the Connetquot River. Visit the Hatchery and check out the stands where anglers for trout can come and try their hand. Yes, you will hear the LIRR off in the distance, but that only reminds you that we still have wonderful chunks of forest to enjoy in the midst of suburban sprawl.

I go on a nature walk every single week and this has been my favorite one yet. This is a huge property with a lot of places to wander. The trails are clearly marked. They offer a map near parking so that you know what you are doing. The bathrooms are open. The trails are wide and clean. There are plenty of benches along the way. There are no garbage cans so whatever you take in you have to take out. There is a Fish Hatchery. $0.25 buys you a little bit of food so bring some quarters. We got about a dollar fifty worth of food and it was enough to keep a bunch of kids happy feeding fish for a couple of minutes. When you throw the food in the water the fish really jump and it's exciting to see. There are bridges and winding pads over the water. You can see the fish swimming free past moss-covered logs. There is a Cabbage Patch to walk through and Fields upon fields of beautiful flowers. Lots of Wildlife scurrying about. There are historic buildings on the grounds. Presently in April of 2021 they are closed to the public but there is a small inside area near the restroom with display cases that showcase artifacts up to 4000 years old. There are plenty of cool sites to see like an old well and water turbine with educational information included at the site. There is a big beautiful lake with swans and ducks and geese. This is a great place to go on a field trip or for homeschooling children or just a nice family outing or a couple going for a walk. Lovely facility. Lots of goose poop but nothing you can really do about that. The parking is free on weekdays up until Labor Day and then it will be $8 on weekdays and weekends seasonally. Overall a very great day was spent here. It is beautiful and interesting!

It is the largest state park in Long Island with many miles of trails based on old network of roads and few footpath trails. Surprisingly, relatively few pitch pines present despite mostly sandy soil of the preserve. You can combine official trails (blue, yellow, red, white) with sandy roads to achieve hike of desired mileage.

Park is right of sunrise hwy in Oakdale. They close at 6 so just be aware of that. Lots of beautiful scenery and three hiking trails. Red trail is the shortest, next is green with than the last is blue which is about an 8 mile hike. Not so crowded which was amazing. They do have rest rooms by the entrance to use before starting your walk . Just beware, ticks are high here, so I would recommend stopping every 20 min or so too check yourself.

This place state park is different from most as it contains trout hatchery. If you never been to a fish hatchery, you you go at least once. The hatchery is about half a mile walk from the parking lot, it you can walk along the bucolic hiking in path to the hatchery. Pro Tip: Do bring a few quarters to buy fish food at the hatchery, there is a vending machine that's sell fish food

James, Nicole, Anthony and Matt do a tremendous job around trout conservation, making sure the guest experience is great. What a treasure ...a true gem. If you want to learn about and know about trout, especially the NY State freshwater fish, the Brook Trout(Brookie), this is the place. Keep up the great work, and thanks!

What a gem of Long Island! Any time of year there is so much to see, so much life and energy in the preserve. The trails are well marked and clean and wide. The Fish Hatchery is a site to behold. Restrooms available and bring a quarter to feed the fish! Enjoy!!

Really pretty park. The tour of the water mill is super interesting for local history buffs. Feeding the fish at the hatchery is another good family friendly activity.

Originally I was going to give this park 4 stars as it had a confusing trail system but upon reaching the trout hatchery it became an instant 5/5. The scenery is spectacular. Wildlife was amazing as well. Birds included ospreys, wild turkeys, great crested flycatchers, and more. I also got to see an eastern box turtle! I will most certainly come here again.

Always enjoy my walks here! Even if the parking lot is busy the plethora of. trails let you enjoy the environment in peace. They have a lot of educational programs too. Plus they've inspired me to learn more about local trout!

Really nice park. Trails are well marked in a forest that isn’t too dense so there is a beautiful breeze. The trails and streams surrounding the hatchery are very serene and are actually fantasy like. Did some trail running with some hiking and chilling on a couple of their benches. Felt good driving out of the park.

A cute little park, very family friendly. I absolutely love going to the hatchery and feeding the trout - bring quarters! The ducks are super rude and want the fish food too, but I find it kind of funny.

I can’t believe this place is on Long Island. There’s so much wildlife here. Hatcheries, swans, geese, so many deer, snapping turtles, chipmunks, ducks, raccoons ,turkeys, and more. I saw basically all of the stars of long islands wild life scene. Everything is clean, and well maintained. This was my first time here. The ponds the fish swim in are crystal clear. I would recommend you to visit here. Plus, there are barely any people here. During our walk to the hatcheries on the yellow trail, we saw maybe 4 people.

Place has many trails with beautiful view. You can check out their trout ponds and rivers. Feels very quiet in there, trails are pretty long and go away from noisy highways and roads.

Huge, beautiful park. I've only been here during the fall and winter, so I'd imagine it would be even nicer in the spring and summer. Trails range from 1 mile to 8 miles, and you can potentially combine some of them. It makes for a great, scenic walk.

If your into basic nature walks, no frills, not really built up, then this is a great place. Then again I love hiking so it suits me. If you like 6 mile hikes or even shorter, and you enjoy meeting friendly horsebsck riders, then stop in. There is the river as well, slowly winding its way through the park where you can see it in a few quiet locations. Bring water and snacks.

Traverse this beautiful park via easy, wide, well marked trails. Although it’s close to the highway just a few steps into the lush vegetation and you’ll hear the sweet sound of nature. There are many vantage points to enjoy the serene river. You’ll see the original hatchery and plenty of foul and fish and an occasional angler as fishing is allowed by permit only. Note that dogs are not allowed. We finished about 6 miles in just a couple of hours.

It's a secret treasure on the island – absolutely stunning! Perfect for fly fishing and enjoying a day surrounded by nature. You can also feed the fish, which is really awesome.

My visit to Connetquot River State Park Preserve was a serene and enriching experience. Nestled amidst the beauty of Long Island, this park offers a peaceful escape into nature. The park's lush greenery, tranquil ponds, and meandering trails provide the perfect backdrop for a day of exploration. Whether you're an avid hiker, a birdwatcher, or simply seeking solace in nature, Connetquot River State Park Preserve has something to offer. There are also picnic areas and fishing spots in the park. I recommend this park to anyone who wants to spend time outdoors and enjoy the peace and tranquility.

A beautiful day for a walk. Nice colors on the trees and a lovely old gristmill from 1750. I also enjoyed looking at all the trout in the fish hatchery

Flat wide trail, sand in some places. Lots of deer, but don't worry so much about tics, the trail is very well done and wide.

This place is amazing my favorite area of this Preserve is the weeping beech tree, in which you can walk in and sit, it's like something out of a fairy tale book. The restaurant in the preserve, is an old estate, food is very good and different but better bring some bucks with you because it's so expensive. Love that you can grab an Adirondack chair and enjoy the view of the Bay the grounds are beautifully kept with different species of trees this is a great place for a get together with friends or family. They have tours of the house and you can book tea parties also I did that with some friends and I enjoyed it very much the finger sandwiches were great and you had a good selection of Tea's. Recommend immensely!!

Great park, lots of places to take beautiful pictures. We took family/maternity photos. Best of all, no permit is required to take pictures here which is getting harder and harder to come by these days.
