This is a must-go tourist attraction here in Ibaraki. One of the nice falls that can be seen here. Its quiet far though so, you need a car or private ride for you to get there. There is an entrance fee here. They have two observatory viewpoint. One facing in the middle of the falls and one on its top view. The falls is really enchanting.

Looks like a fine waterfall, but not much water coming down at the moment. It's quite a drive from Tokyo and I guess you have to visit when more water is coming down. I'm a bit disappointed that the natural feeling is a bit gone with elevator, tunnels and the amount of concrete they poured.

One of the highly recommend place to visit. Beauty even in winter it proves . Hiking fit. Pictures taking is the best. Crystal lights in nature , frozen cliffs , water fall with its flow sound mental relaxing environment . Càve tunnel keeps beating heart of curiousness . Lovers spot for a romantic couple where promises and wishes can be taken with a beliefs putting coins inside the clover shape metal monument . Same amazing water fall could be seen from different angles from different floor stages available . Breath taking it stands . Cheers

One of the popular tourist attractions of Ibaraki prefecture. There is an entrance fees of ¥300 (¥50 discount for JAF members) and one can reach the observatory through a tunnel. There is a second observation post on a upper level accessed through a elevator. Return can either be through the tunnel or the old walkway after crossing a suspension bridge. There is a free public car park approx 1 km away or one can park at many of the privately owned car parks that charge ¥300~¥500 a day or for 2 hours in busy seasons. Some shops would give you discount coupons , so your parking fees can be adjusted when you buy some souvenir from the shop

Now there's not many people. If there are, it must be a bit annoying. You have to walk through a tunnel to the lower deck. There is also a free elevator to the upper deck. This deck has another level you can go to by stairs only. The waterfall itself is very big and wide. It's interesting to see and think about how long it took to carve it like it is now. They have information in several languages. You can also install an app to get some more information.

Beautiful fall. They have no free parking space. Def would recommend going in the winter when the part of the fall is frozen.

Fukuroda Falls in Ibaraki is a breathtaking natural wonder that leaves visitors in awe of its majestic beauty. As a nature enthusiast, I was eager to explore this renowned waterfall, and it exceeded all expectations. Located in Daigo, Ibaraki, Fukuroda Falls is renowned for its four-tiered cascade, standing at an impressive height of 120 meters and stretching 73 meters wide. The sheer force of the water as it tumbles down the rugged cliff creates a mesmerizing spectacle, particularly during the lush greenery of spring or the vibrant foliage of autumn. The viewing platforms strategically placed around the falls offer panoramic vistas, allowing visitors to marvel at the mesmerizing flow from different angles. The sound of rushing water and the refreshing mist that caresses your skin add to the immersive experience. During my visit, I took a leisurely stroll along the well-maintained walking paths that meander through the surrounding forest. The peaceful ambiance and the harmonious blend of nature's sights and sounds created a serene escape from the bustling city life. Fukuroda Falls is a year-round destination, each season offering a unique charm. Whether you visit during the blossoming cherry blossoms of spring, the verdant greens of summer, the fiery hues of autumn, or the serene icicles of winter, the falls never fail to captivate and enchant. In conclusion, Fukuroda Falls in Ibaraki is a natural wonder that should be on every traveler's bucket list. Its awe-inspiring beauty, surrounded by the tranquility of nature, makes it an ideal destination for those seeking a serene escape and a memorable encounter with one of Japan's most beautiful waterfalls.

I’d say visit if you’re in the area. It’s a really nice spot and if you like waterfalls maybe worth going out of your way for, however there are definitely nicer waterfalls over in Nikko.

It's a breath taking place. Picturesque. nice if you visit this time of Autumn. You can find the falls in a mountainous area of Ibaraki. You can also see there a tunnel of colorful dancing lights, a hanging bridge. You must visit there. It has a entrance fee for only ¥300 that time. I don't know now. Thanks.

Not only it has a tunnel and a platform for viewing the waterfall, it has a number of hiking trails. One recommended trail takes about 90 minutes through a mountain top and a viewing spot.

One of ibaraki's pride. A must see but might be crowded, in summer as well as in autumn or winter.

  • 5/5 Breughel M. 2 years ago on Google
I love the uniqueness of this falls. Unlike the other falls I've visited, on your way there, you'd have to go inside the cave and at the end of it is the magnificent waterfalls which had parts of it frozen during winter! Another surprise was some people were climbing the icy falls. Zoom in on 1 of the pictures... yep, those in the picture are huge hard-rock ice with people in it!

  • 5/5 Maria N. 2 years ago on Google
The left side has an entrance fee and you can go by elevator to see the falls from a high level. You can walk back the other side ( or can return the easy way via elevator) The right side has a few great cafes/ soba small restaurants with amazing views. The soba and miso vegetable soup was delicious. Can walk both ways on the right hand side for free. Parking varies from 300 to 500 depending on distance from falls.

Nice for trekking during summer. I'd love to visit once more during the freezing season (winter) to witness how it turns out into an ice falls. My overall experience was not really satisfying' maybe because it was a wrong season.

  • 4/5 photographs j. 2 years ago on Google
This waterfall is 120 meters high and 73 meters wide. The waterfall is also called "yodo-no-taki" because the flow of the waterfall falls in four stages down a large rock wall. It is lit up at night. In winter, you can see the water frozen in place.

Absolutely beautiful place. We visited on golden week first week of may. Not crowded area, fresh air and wonderful views .

  • 4/5 Robert P. 6 years ago on Google
On the day we went it was very quiet, not many tourists so it was easy to get a nice view of the falls. Only a few places were open but everything was nice. If you drive your best bet is to go past the first few roadside parking spaces they charge for and go to one of the shops that have space if you are planning on eating or buying something as then the parking is free for their shop. It's a very beautiful place, but I can imagine it would be a little annoying if busy with lots of tourists. Try to go mid-week and enjoy the peacefulness of the area.

It is always a pleasure to visit this nice waterfall far away from the hustle and bustle of cities in Kanto region. Though famous for freezing completely once in a decade, I have never seen it freeze beyond 70% (figure taken from the official website). I decided to do the difficult climb (a very long, steep set of stairs) to see the waterfall from the top and while the climb was a satisfactory experience the same cannot be said about the views. Do not expect a jaw dropping view from above. To access this route you need to cross the bridge close to the main viewing platform and just keep climbing the stairs on the left after the bridge. I was sweating in February winter and will not recommend it in Summers. A note on the parking space. Assuming you visit this place by a car, note that there is a free parking lot approximately 15 minutes walking distance from the entrance to the falls. If you go close to the falls, the staff you will see guiding your car into a parking lot are people from local shops and they will charge you 500 JPY just for the parking. If you want to park your car close to the entrance, then look for a place that will not charge you for parking if you eat/drink(which you will want to after the climb) from their shop. The signs are in Japanese though and not very conspicuous. 駐車場利用の方々へ 滝の入り口周辺に無料駐車場がありません。1キロほど離れたところに無料駐車場ありますのでお勧めします。

There were a lot of view points offered to view the waterfall! Entering only cost ¥300. There were a bunch of nice souvenir shops with traditional sweets. It's spring so the tunnel was rather chilly!

Amazing place to visit, the falls are stunning, the entrance fee it's 300¥ and there are two free parking lots nearby. There is a nice bridge where you can take amazing pictures. This falls are the second most famous in Japan and it's known as the 'lovers sanctuary'
