HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! My fiancé and I were visting Brussels for a couple nights and decided to find a local gym to train at. After multiple failed attempts at other gyms, we came across JIMS which accepted drop-ins (we’re from Canada). The customer service was 10/10 and Karel at the front desk went above and beyond to help us with all our needs. We were very impressed with the facility, equipment and staff. Best gym in the area hands down!

I have been waiting in vain since the end of July for my refund of the amount that was still paid during the Covid-19 pandemic. The manager of the studio has assured me several times that the amount will be credited to my account by the end of the month. There is no longer a response to multiple requests. I am deeply disappointed with the service quality of the studio manager.

This message simply aims to denounce the behavior of the 1m90 English-speaking gentleman this afternoon, who was training in the crossfit area as a couple around 2:30 p.m. The gentleman made remarks in English regarding another member who was training nearby. It seems that the gentleman had an ego problem, but rather than making comments in a low voice, it would be better for him to concentrate on his training and respect the other members of the gym, instead of jumping around like a Little boy on a puddle. He is more angry than courageous.

Note: The entrance is not where google tells you! It’s on the opposite side. My friend and I were two lost little tourists and the attendant was so incredibly nice and welcoming. The facilities are very clean and there’s enough equipment for a diverse workout. I used the BOSU and free weights then had an incline treadmill workout. Also they have an interesting vending machine system with many options for protein bars and drinks.

Application is archaic and prevents you from coming to exercise as classes are always fully booked but 10 percent to more than half sometimes don't show up. A new app is badly needed with a waiting list!

After six years of being a member, I've made the decision to part ways. The corporate culture at Jim's Fitness, owned by Colruyt, fails to prioritize the best interests of its clients. Moving forward, I'll be seeking a fitness environment that aligns more closely with my values and ensures my well-being as a client. The problem with being able to work barefoot at Jim's is that for the company's image it poses a problem, and they justify it by citing hygiene concerns, even though we touch everything with our hands. This may seem contradictory, but it is a corporate reality. A compromise was proposed which was to use socks, but this probably won't work as we would risk slipping in the socks. To get around this situation, it might be helpful to hold education sessions to explain the health and performance benefits of barefoot training. If decision-makers better understand the reasons behind this practice, they may be more inclined to consider trade-offs or adjustments. As for the benefits of barefoot training you mentioned: Better proprioception improves balance, coordination and awareness of body movement. Strengthening the foot and ankle muscles reduces the risk of injury and improves stability. Better form during exercises Improving ankle stability reduces the risk of injury. Increasing sensory feedback improves the ability to adapt to different surfaces and movements. Cost effectiveness is an advantage as no specialist equipment is required. Improving posture and flexibility contributes to the overall health of the body. If access to barefoot training at Jim's is restricted, I don't need Jim's Unfitness. There are many gyms run without the corporate aspect and with a more health-focused vision. Sincerely,

A clean, basic gym with friendly staff that pretty much has everything you need for a great monthly price. Great value for money. The good: -Low price -Good location -Friendly, helpful staff -Clean space with equipment that is in good working order. The bad: -No power rack and not enough squat racks. -No showers or locker rooms for changing. You have to use the toilets which might be even more dangerous from a public health standpoint than allowing the use of the locker rooms. -Gets crowded during peak times. -Members not required to wear masks. Location: 5/5 Proximity to work, home and/or public transit lines is important for many people. If you work near the Quartier Européen, then you can't really beat this location. It's about 20 m from the entrance to Porte de Namur metro station, so you can easily stop on your way to or from the office. The current lack of showers and locker room facilities makes the former option somewhat less appealing for most people though, as I think most of us like to shower after our workouts. Hopefully they will be able to find a solution to this. Perhaps individual cabins that are disinfected after each use? I'd easily pay 3 - 5 € per shower if they made them available. Cleanliness: 4/5 Unlike other clubs in the same price range that I won't name here, JIMS takes cleanliness seriously. Everything is disinfected every two hours and nearly all weights are properly racked at all times. However, I think they should be a bit more strict with their clients about proper cleaning of the equipment before and after use. Some more signage would work wonders-- maybe something with a cartoon mascot (Corona-Chan?) so it really catches the eye and helps people remember to do their part. They should also consider placing a bottle of disinfectant at each machine/station, as it would help people remember that they need to do the old spray and wipe after their sets, and to avoid someone using equipment before the previous user has had the opportunity to clean it. I watched a guy today start using a bench BEFORE another guy could come back with the paper towels and disinfectant to wipe it down. No one's fault really. If you see free equipment and no one is around, you typically go ahead and use it. If the disinfectant were closer, it would prevent this from happening. Friendliness 5/5 While at other gyms in the same price range you might have staff that are unhelpful, ineffective, and even downright rude or offensive, JIMS seems to have created an environment where both staff AND members are encouraged to be friendly, professional, and helpful. On my first visit, there was a problem with my online payment, and instead of being turned away, I was still given my membership card and told to do my workout and that we could sort out the payment issue later (it sorted itself out in the end). Equipment and facilities 3/5 They have most EVERYTHING you need here, but one thing they should really think about investing in is a power rack or two. Please, please, please 🙏 get rid of the Smith machine as well as the dozen other machines that are essentially useless. There are fewer people using machines these days, so they should really embrace the trend and go for a wider selection of free weights. With more free weights and functional training equipment comes the opportunity to sell more private and group training sessions. There's no pool or sauna and locker rooms are currently inaccessible due to the pandemic. Even if things get back to normal, I don't see this as a deal breaker. A pool is nice, but it's tougher for me to squeeze in a good swim than it is to do a good workout. As for the sauna, it might be a very, very long time before they open up again anywhere. One thing I found strange is that masks are not required. If masks are necessary in stores and other indoor spaces, shouldn't they be required in a gym, where people are breathing and coughing even more and in even closer proximity?

The free weights were very organised and the gym eqpt was clean and new. The machines were smooth and they had a comprehensive range of eqpt for you to choose from. From cardio to weightlifting to crossfit, this gym had it all. I had requested for a one-time pass since I was visiting Brussels and I was met with impeccable service. The staff were exceedingly warm and helpful when helping me get a discount and showing me around the gym. I highly recommend this gym for anyone looking to get a good workout in the area!

I found almost everything I needed: free weights, machines, lifting belts. There was no possibility of doing hip thrusts with free weights and I had to adapt with the machine, but overall it is quite complete for everything. Very nice changing rooms, as well as the structure and the gym. Single entry isn't cheap, but it's probably worth it for the completeness of what you find, unlike other gyms in the area. Finally, I would say that it is suitable for training if you are in Brussels for a short period with your own program, because the soul of the gym is really dull, there is no liveliness and not even personal trainers who go around the gym to check a little. ' everyone, so probably if I were permanently in Brussels I wouldn't frequent it assiduously, but it's certainly perfect if you're here for a short time. Small note: I have the feeling that they sold my contacts to marketing companies, but, not having confirmed it was them, I reserve the right not to lower the rating.

Update: I've updated the rating and description to reflect the changes made in the gym in the past year. That's the gym I've been frequenting for over a year. At the end of the day, a gym is a just gym; no need for rocket science or fads in there. Overall, I'm happy with it, aside from a few shortcoming. Shortcomings that a relevant to me, but may be completely irrelevant to you. First and foremost, there is only ONE SQUAT RACK. How does one manage to built a two-floor very spacious gym featuring only ONE squat rack? I-n-c-o-m-p-r-e-h-e-n-s-i-b-l-e. The problem is that the only rack in the gym is often taken (particularly during the rush hour) and for that reason one simply cannot proceed with one's routine. For somebody else is already lifting at the time. Therefore if one is planning to squat first, it makes exactly zero sense to start the workout with something else. If one keeps mixing up the sequence of one's routine, especially in an entirely unpredictable fashion, eventually it starts messing with one's progress and results. It's very annoying. Call it what you want, in this department the gym doesn't deliver the value for money. ONE SQUAT RACK? Seriously? What does one replace a squat rack with, you would ask? Well, one simply does NOT. Meanwhile the floor is full of largely useless (at least to people who have no significant limiting injuries) machines nobody ever uses. The management have to do something about it. I refuse to believe there is no reasonable way to resolve the situation. In contrast, JIMS Leuven (my favourite gym), last time I visited it, had FOUR (yes, a 4:1 ratio) squat racks. But then again, the Flemish are know to be more reasonably about things, aren't they. Second, the ceiling of the gym is so low one cannot build a 90cm-high box and jump on it without hitting the ceiling with the head. That means -- no box jumps in this gym. Which is a pity, for it's an extremely good functional warm up exercise, even for people who lift big iron. It's a design problem, however, which shall not go away, so I give this to them. That does not make the problem disappear though. Third (update), the issue of completely disorganised weights in the weight-room seems to have been improved since last year. It saves time. The staff is generally friendly. I have nothing to say, however, about personal trainers or group lessons, for I haven't tried any. They seem to be quite popular, though.

It's a good gym that has most of the equipment the average gym goer needs. However when it comes to the three main lifts (bench/squat/deadlift) it's lacking. The bench for the bench press is way too narrow which is bad for form and increases injury risk. There's only one "squat rack" (more of a overhead press rack) not counting the Smith machines which during crowded hours I could imagine it being a pain in the a** getting any access to it, it wasn't a problem for me however because I went in the morning. There's no designated deadlift zone so you just have to take a random bar and place it in a random place which isn't too bad but isn't ideal. The dumbbells don't have too much of a gap between kilograms which is good for progressive overload but the gap increases when you get above 20kg. There are no microplates (0,5kg, 1kg, 1,5kg, 2kg) which is to be expected in a commercial gym. There's a stretching zone and a lot of space in the gym overall. The place looks pretty fresh and well taken care of. I'm not a regular so I can't say how the atmosphere is but the customer service was very good. If you're a tourist just remember to have your passport. Also the first gym session free which is nice. Overall if you're a tourist I would definitely recommend this gym, but if you're going there long term I would experiment with other places if your focus is on the main lifts.
