We planned to come to Sri Lanka for our very first time and Dhana from Go Holiday Tour was warmly recommended by a good friend of us. Dhana sent us an itinerary for 10 days in advance and we were very happy about what he recommended to visit and to do in Sri Lanka. When we arrived at the airport Dhana was already waiting for us and from that on we had one of the best round trips ever. First we went to Habarana to stay for 4 nights (at Cinnamon Lodge Habarana - highly recommended, best food all over the island!!) From Habarana we startet tours to Sigiriya (Lion´s Rock), Pidurangala (opposite to Sigiriya), Anuradhapura (the cultural hot spot - there we had a very kind German speaking (we are from Austria) guide. Thank you Ranga for delivering all the insights about Buddhism) and Kaudulla/Minneriya National Park, where we could watch hundreds of elephants - one of our most impressing moments... After these first great experiences and a wonderful Ayurveda treatment we went to Kandy. It was quite a long ride but Dhana always provided us with food (amazing streetfood and fruits) and good conversation (with many laughs). By the way Dhana always came on the dot when he picked us up in the morning (which is very important for Austrians like us ;-). On the way we stopped at the very impressing Dambulla Cave Temple. Kandy was also a great experince. (Temple of the tooth, botanical garden, Lake Kandy) and after that we startet our ride through the Sri Lankan highlands with their refreshing climate, the great views and tea plantations (if you love tea, you will get the best tea quality at the factories). Dhana provided us with tickets for the famous vintage style highland trains, and we went from Nanu Oya to Haputale, having fun with locals and other travellers on the train. Dhana picked us up again and drove us to our next hotel in Tissamaharama, nearby the famous Yala National Park. Dhana asked his old friend and longtime safari guide to take us altogether on a Yala safari. We had so much fun watching the amazing wildlife all around. Our guide´s wife provided us with excellent rice and different currys for lunch - thank you for all the hospitality we received. The next day Dhana drove us to our last hotel to Tangalle where we spend the rest of our journey). We also booked Dhana to give us a lift to the airport on our last day. Because we had a very late flight in the evening, Dhana recommended to visit the famous town of Galle on our way to the airport and after that he invited us to have a late lunch. He is such a great guy, always in a good mood, getting alway the best out of everything. He loves his job and is giving all the insights about Sri Lanka to his guests. We appreciated it a lot and we even became emotional when we left, but we will definitely return to this amazing country and its amazing people, taking another ride with Dhana. We often had additional, German-speaking guides on site, we had to draw the money bag anywhere (except sometimes a small tip for guides, etc.), everything was always arranged for us. Doch durch eine Kollegin wurden wir darauf aufmerksam gemacht und durch sie sind wir auch auf Go Holiday Tours und den Fahrer/Guide Dhana gekommen. Kurzerhand haben wir Dhana unsere Reisewünsche und angestrebten Sightseeing-Spots geschrieben und bekamen auch gleich einen super ausgearbeiteten Tourvorschlag geschickt. Selbst die Hotels hätte er ebenfalls für uns gebucht, aber wir haben das letztlich in die eigenen Hände genommen. Am Flughafen wurden wir bereits von ihm erwartet und mit einem Lächeln ging es auch schon los. Unsere Reise führte uns von Negombo aus Richtung Inselmitte bis hoch ins kulturelle Dreieck nach Anuradhapura. Dann zurück über Kandy ins Hochland mit seinem ganz anderem Klima und den beeindruckenden Teeplantagen. Dann teilweise mit der sehr witzigen Eisenbahn (absolutes Erlebnis - muss man einfach mit dazunehmen) ging es weiter wieder Richtung Süden zum Yala Nationalpark und weiter zum Baden nach Tangalle. Das was wir auf dieser Rundreise erleben durften war mehr als beeindruckend. Unglaubliche Landschaften, Natur pur, die spannende Tierwelt (so viele Elefanten auf den Safaris), das extrem gute Essen, die netten Leute - Sri Lanka hat für jeden was zu bieten. Einen wesentlichen Anteil zu diesem Erlebnis hat auch Dhana beigetragen. ALLES war perfekt organisiert. Wir hatten oft zusätzliche, deutsch sprechende Guides vor Ort, wir mussten niergends die Geldtasche zücken (außer mal ein kleines Trinkgeld für Guides etc.), alles war immer für uns geregelt. Zudem war Dhana IMMER pünktlich da. Für die Zugfahrt hat er im voraus die Tickets besorgt (sind sehr begehrt und man kann sie nicht online buchen), uns am Bahnhof abgeliefert und am Zielbahnhof bereits mit dem Auto wieder erwartet. Es gab unterwegs immer Wasser und Früchte für uns und als Dhana merkte, dass wir gerne auch mal was neues probieren, hat er uns immer wieder mit Sri Lanka Streetfood versorgt. (und uns dann natürlich auch erklärt was das alles ist, was wir da gerade essen - und das schmeckt richtig gut!!). Es wurde mit Dhana im Auto nie langweilig, es gab immer was zu erzählen und wir haben extrem viel mit ihm gelacht. Für uns war es rundum die ideale Rundreise! Normalerweise lädt Dhana seine Gäste am Ende zum Essen zu sich und seine Familie ein, aber da sich das bei uns nicht ausgegangen ist, bekamen wir stattdessen von ihm eine große Auswahl der besten Gewürze seines Landes (u.a. die Curry-Hausmischung von seiner Schwiegermutter) mit auf den Heimweg. Es war fantastisch. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen und uns den Rest dieses wunderbaren Landes mit ihm anschauen!

Angesetzt war ein 14-tägiger Urlaub, den wir in die Herbstferien legten. Die Tour selbst plante ich mit Dhanushka Lowe, CEO von Go Holiday Tours und unser persönlicher Tour-Guide, per WhatsApp. Da unser Sohn sehr sportlich ist, waren wir ziemlich sicher, dass er die gelände-und infrastrukturtechnischen Herausforderungen mit Hilfe seiner Mutter meistern würde, denn barrierefrei ist in Sri Lanka fast gar nichts! Gleich am ersten Tag musste Dhana seine Beziehungen spielen lassen, da unser gesamtes aufgegebenes Gepäck samt Rollstuhl erst eine Maschine später aus Dubai kam und wir dringendst auf med. Hilfsmittel, die sich in den Koffern befanden, angewiesen waren. Am nächsten Tag ging es dann in Dhanas neuem Van in Richtung Habarana. Als Fahrer hatte er Dayan verpflichtet, einen sehr sicheren und freundlichen Mann. Untergebracht waren wir in der Ritigala Lodge, etwa 10 min außerhalb von Habarana. Essen und Unterkunft waren ausgezeichnet. Auch ein Pool ist vorhanden. Wir nahmen an zwei Safaris teil, die uns in den Kaudulla Nationalpark führten. Nach 2 Übernachtungen verließen wir die Gegend in Richtung Mahiyanganaya. Dort war ein Besuch der Veddas, der Ureinwohner Sri Lankas, geplant. Obwohl uns der Wettergott nicht ganz so hold schien, war der Tag ein Erfolg. Wir übernachteten im National Holiday Resort, am wunderschönen Mapakada Tank gelegen. Unterkunft und Verpflegung top! Tag fünf führte uns nach Arugam Bay. Geplant waren 2 Übernachtungen im Baumhaus im Beach Hut, aber wegen Doppelbuchung wurde das dann nichts. Da hatte wohl einer mit ein paar Scheinen gewunken... Untergekommen sind wir dann schlussendlich im New Tri Star Beach Hotel. Direkt am Strand und zentral gelegen. Unsere Bandscheiben waren aufgrund der tollen Betten extrem dankbar! Unser nächstes Ziel war Tissamaharama. Tissa bietet sich als Basis für Safaris in den Yala und den Bundala Nationalpark an. Verpflegt und untergebracht wurden wir bei Mr. Chathura und seiner Frau, die beide eine kleine Pension in der Nähe von Tissa führen. Weiter ging es dann nach Deniyaya. Diese kleine Stadt ist das Tor zum Sinharaja Regenwald. Im Hotel Lavenro verbrachten wir die Nacht und wurden auch kulinarisch bestens versorgt. Am nächsten Morgen fuhren wir nach Weligama ins Jaga Bay Resort. Das ist eines der Hotels von Mr. Jagath, der teilweise in Deutschland aufwuchs und auch ausgezeichnet deutsch und englisch spricht.Hier verabschiedeten wir uns für ein paar Tage von Dhana und Dayan. Nach vier Tagen Strandurlaub holte uns Dayan ab und brachte uns ins Elternhaus von Dhana nach Negombo. Hier hat Dhana sein Büro und auch 2 Gästezimmer mit je 2 -3 Betten damit sich seine Gäste vor bzw. nach der Rundreise ausruhen können. Alles in Allem hat uns die Reise wieder sehr gefallen. Für Rollstuhlfahrer können wir dann aber leider keine klare Empfehlung geben, da hier noch reichlich Nachholbedarf besteht.

Tieto nase pochybnosti sa však rýchlo rozplynuli, keď na nas cakal velmi sympaticky a priatelsky vodič spoločnosti Danushka -Shehan. Od prvej minuty na Sri lanke bolo o vsetko postarané . Po opustneni letiska sme poziadali Shedana,ci by sme si mohli niekde kupit Sim kartu s internetom a on hned zamieril smerom -mobilny operator. Na mieste za nas vsetko zariadil a my sme mohli byt v kontakte s Danushka prostrednictvom Whatsapp. Nase dalsie kroky so Shehan smerovali do zmenarne ,kde nam taktiez pomohol k ziskaniu najlepsie kurzu, kedze majitel zmenarne je dobry priatel Danushka.Mimochodom, toto bolo len prvé z nespočetných dalsich vyhod,z ktorych sme ťažili z rozsiahlej siete kontaktov Dany, pretože každý, kto ho pozná, si da všetku namahu nato, aby uspokojil hostí Dany. Ak niečo robí, tak iba so 100% nasadenim . Všetko je skutočne do poslednej stotiny zorganizované. Boli sme spokojní so všetkým, pretože Dana sa vzdy postaral o to ,aby sme mali tú najlepšiu izbu a dostali najlepšie možné služby. Najmä v Kandy, Nuwara Eliya a Ella sme mali skutočne izby s nádherným výhľadom. Velka chvala patri aj Danovym obrovskym znalostiam v histórii, náboženstvach, kultúry, flóry a fauny. Nemôžeme si spomenúť na otázku, na ktorú nevedel odpoveď. Keďže nas velmi zaujimala miestna kuchyna a hlavne miestne špeciality. Bolo pre nas vzdy vsetko pripravene na ochutnanie spezialit v roznych regionoch .Predstavte si cestu ,popri ktorej stoja uplne jednoduche stanky s roznym ovocim ,ktore ste v zivote nevideli -tak presne takto prebiehali nase presuny z jedneho mesta do druheho. Vzdy sme na chvilu zastali autom a Dana nam kupil ovocie ,ktore sme tam jedli a videli po prvykrat a mozno aj posledny. Jednoducho vzdy nieco zaujimave a neopakovatelne- take boli aj presuny . Okrem inehosme boli skutočne šťastní, že nemusíme jazdiť na Srí Lanke my s autom :D ale naopak mohli sme sa spolahnut na skúseného a bezpečného vodiča, akým je Dana. My sme vždy cítili bezpečne !! A to vam povieme,ze cesty na Sri lanke nie su ako v Europe a my sme pravidla cestej premavky pocas naseho pobytu vobec nepochopili ,tak jazdi kazdy ako chce :D Po ukonceni okruznej cesty Sri lankou sme sa rozhodli stravit par dni na plazi. Bohuzial museli sme zmenit hotel ,ktory sme si sami vybrali a neboli sme s nim spokojni ,o com sme informovali Dana a on hned pre nas organizoval ine ubytovanie,len aby sme my mohli byt spokojni.Aj ked nasa cesta s nim sa skoncila ,zalezalo mu natom kde stravime nase posledne dni na Sri lanke. Okrem toho nás osobne vyzdvihol z nášho hotela,v ramci svojho volneho casu, len aby sa ujistil ,ze sme sa v poriadku dostali na letisko a neposlednej rade, aby sa s nami este raz rozlucil. Dana je naozaj uzasny človek s obrovskym srdom !! Dana,nase posledne riadky patria prave tebe -priatel nas. CHceme sa ti este raz podakovat za vsetko co si pre nas spravil a za vsetky spontanne vecery,ktore sme stravili s tebou pri flasi Arracku alebo Ginu :D a za neskutocne vzrusujuce a vtipne rozhovory. Pevne dufame ze sa nase cesty este v buducnosti stretnu ,ci uz na Sri lanke alebo u nas. Sri lanke je krajina, ktoru treba zazit a my sme neskutocne radi, ze sme sa pre tuto krajinu rozhodli ,pretoze nikdy sme sa necítili tak prepojení s krajinou ako to bolo v tomto pripade.Este raz dakujeme Dana, a tešíme sa na ďalšiu návštevu priateľ.

Wir waren schon sehr positiv überrascht als binnen einer Stunde bereits eine freundliche Antwort auf unsere Anfrage einging und so entwickelte sich rasch ein reger Austausch über unsere Vorstellungen und von Dana auf uns zugeschnittene Ziele und Ausflugsvorschläge. Es ging wirklich nicht lange bis eine sehr ansprechende Tour zusammengestellt war und so konnte die Reise beginnen. Es war wirklich alles dabei was das Herz begehrt. Atemberaubende Landschaften, archäologische Stätten, buddhistische und hinduistischen Tempelkomplexe, Bergtouren im Horton Plains Nationalpark, zwei wunderbare Safaris, eine Dschungelwanderung mit lokalen Trackern, Besichtigungen von Teeplantagen, Welness und Ayurveda, Erkundung eines typischen Dorfes mit allem was dazugehört, eine wunderbare Zugfahrt durch die Berge zwischen Nuwara Eliya und Ella und vieles vieles mehr. An dieser Stelle wollen wir nun auch etwas zu Dana sagen. Wir haben selten jemanden so schnell ins Herz geschlossen und auf Anhieb so gut verstanden. Man merkt ganz schnell dass er seinen Beruf wirklich liebt und sich als eine Art Botschafter seines Landes versteht, der darauf größten Wert legt, dass seine Gäste Sri Lanka leben und lieben lernen. Wenn er etwas macht, dann nur mit hundertprozentigem Einsatz. Alles ist wirklich top organisiert. Wir waren mit allen Unterkünften super zufrieden, denn er hat immer dafür gesorgt, dass wir das beste Zimmer erhalten und dass wir den bestmöglichen Service bekommen. Gerade in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya und Ella hatten wir wirklich Zimmer mit atemberaubender Aussicht. Auch sehr lobenswert ist das große Wissen bezüglich Geschichte, Religion, Kultur sowie Flora und Fauna. Wir können uns an keine Frage erinnern, auf die er keine Antwort wusste. Da wir uns sehr für die landestypischen Spezialitäten interessierten, sorgte er immer dafür, dass wir während Ausflügen oder in den Hotels mit regionsspezifischen Delikatessen versorgt wurden. Außerdem durften wir bei jeder sich bietenden Gelegenheit exotische Früchte probieren. Überdies waren wir wirklich froh, nicht selbst auf Sri Lanka fahren zu müssen und uns auf einen so erfahrenen und sicheren Fahrer wie Dana verlassen zu können. Man fühlte sich wirklich zu jedem Zeitpunkt sicher!! Auch als wir nach unserer Zeit mit Dana ein Hotel wechseln mussten, war er direkt zur Stelle und half uns eine neue Unterkunft zu organisieren, da er selbst nach der eigentlichen Rundreise nur das Beste für uns wollte. Überdies will er uns morgen bei unserer Abreise aus Sri Lanka persönlich von unserem Hotel abholen und zum Flughafen bringen, um sich noch verabschieden zu können. Echt ein toller Mensch!! Last but not least möchten wir uns an dieser Stelle für die vielen spontanen netten Abende bedanken, an denen wir uns mit Dana bei einer Flasche Arrack oder Gin zusammen gesetzt haben und super spannende und humorvolle Gespräche geführt haben Wir haben uns noch auf keiner Reise so mit einem Land verbunden gefühlt, wie in Begleitung von Dana und freuen uns jetzt schon auf unseren nächsten Besuch bei Freunden Bohoma istou ti ayya!
