This is one of the most unique places in America!! If you don't stop here, you're really missing out! It seems appointment only during Covid quarantine, but we were divinely blessed that our stop coincided with another group. Contact them through Facebook and book a tour today!! We will be telling everyone we know to go! And the owner is an absolute angel of a human. So blessed to have been!

Drove two hours each way to see this gem. It was recommended to me by a friend as a joke because she knows I'm a proud cat dad. I LOVED it. There was so much history and the guide had a plethora of knowledge. 10/10 would go again.

This place was awesome! The owner/curator was so great, and we loved every moment of being shown around the museum! We couldn't leave without making a few purchases (as a donation)! There is a lot of cat history here, and it's so nice that someone is preserving it all!

I had passed by this museum many times but a friend wanted to visit, so glad we stopped! Well worth the $10 entry fee. Everything imaginable related to cats, collected over many years by a cat lover for cat lovers. Would love to go again.

What a truly one of a kind museum! Lots of unique cat antiques and collectibles to look at, one of the most astonishing collections I've personally ever seen. Seeing original Louis Wain artwork was a phenomenal experience. They only reopened in their new location last month (April 2023), so I can't wait to see how they grow when I visit again in the future. Admission was only $10, and the money goes to such a good cause helping with their animal shelter.

Fun and quirky. Could have stayed for hours, but they were closing soon. Honestly, I could have left the husband to hang out with the Catman all day. He really loved hearing about the musical equipment. Fascinating. Adorable kittens and such a cool collection of stuff.

Great little roadside attraction that helps cats! The older gentleman that's created it is clearly devoted to his feline friends. And the staff helping him are wonderful. Small but worth the admission to help keep this going. He has some original art from various famous artists as well as historical artifacts and pop culture pieces.

Great place. More than you can possibly see. They are moving to a larger place so the displays will have more room. When you first go in it seems small but the amount of items to look at would take hours. The conservator is incredibly knowledgeable and knows a story for every piece. Highly encourage a stop.

The ticket price supports a local no kill shelter. It's a weird little place that I really enjoyed. Lots of cool cat museum displays and Catman2 knows his stuff. It takes about an hour and is worth the stop. I really enjoyed it.

Gotta be one of my favorite museums I've been in for years. This is so unique and the owner truly put his heart and soul into it. Let him show you around! He's the sweetest.

This was more of a collection of cat appreciation (art, figures, posters, etc). It was quite a lot but some of it was very cool. To see works of art by famous artists. Collections that will now be forever remembered. Met the resident kitty, Mimi, and Dr. Harold Sims, himself. Would have been better with a little more history of the house cat... Like how they came to be house cats or even how he acquired the collections he has. I bought a few of his books so maybe that will drive me the insight I was looking for. Definitely recommend stopping in to appreciate his collection. If he's there he will be happy to chat with you

I drove 3 hours to visit the museum yesterday and it was well worth the drive! Admission was $10 per person. It has all the cat memorabilia you can possibly think of and a lot of amazing artwork all throughout, some of which I wish I couldโ€™ve taken home with me. As a life long cat lover, this place was a dream. There was also a sweet little museum cat walking around. 10/10 recommend stopping by to see whatโ€™s inside! Thank you Harold and family for all you have done and continue to do to save the lives of these sweet creatures.

This place is great, the collection of cat memorabilia, the carousel and all the history is a must see. We had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Harold Sims pictured sitting here. Support this museum.

Ok, if you like cats you should absolutely visit and support the catman2 shelter that it's associated with. And you might see some adorable kittens! But honestly - it's just a room packed to the rafters with cat-related stuff. Everything from old, valuable automatons to toys I had when I was a kid. There are some rare items - most notably some cat carousel animals that are rare and some egyptian mummy cats. Just anything with a cat on it is in this museum. I think with a little more curation and discretion, it would be a more impressive display. As it is, it's overkill.

This is truly a must-see for people who love cats and have a sense of humor. There seemed to be a lot of older adults around who were taking their experience very seriously, but the bizarre-ness of this spot cannot be overstated. In my opinion, it was the perfect size for a museum: pretty small, but chock-a-block full of wacky stuff to look at. Entrance for adults is $10 each, which seems pretty steep for what's inside, but at least a portion of the fee (or maybe all, can't remember) goes to an animal shelter and adoption center. I'm so glad we checked it out.

This place was SO CUTE. If you're in the area I definitely recommend checking it out - lots of unique and interesting displays all about cats and the staff was so friendly! We brought a very energetic toddler and they were so nice and accommodating.

There is a very unique and kinda bizarre museum located in a building onย U.S. 441 just south of Sylva, NC - the American Museum of House Cats! ๐Ÿ˜บ And if you are a cat lover (or even if you're not) it is a most interesting place to visit. My wife and I are the owners (or parents ๐Ÿ˜น) of 3 cats so it was certainly on our radar to visit. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ When you enter the building (well let me first say you enter the building through a door surrounded by a painted cat face if this tells you anything about what you're about to encounter! ๐Ÿ˜น) you begin a journey through centuries of history of house cats seen through a large collection which includes framed paintings, cat clocks, old tin advertisements, arcade games, stuffed animals, photos, feline beer steins,ย catย automatons and even mummified felines. Among the highlights are a band of ceramic cat musicians and a carousel Harold Sims , the owner built to hold antique carousel cats. Sims, a retired biology professor, has operated Catman2, a nonprofit, no-cage, no-kill shelter in Cullowhee, for more than two decades. For his efforts to save thousands of kittens and cats, he is affectionately known as โ€œthe Catmanโ€ in Jackson County. The admission price (which is maybe a little steep in price at $10.00 per adult) is used in part to support this shelter. We met Mr. Sims while there and had an interesting and pleasant conversation with him. He is truly a cat lover and this place and cats are certainly his passion. Meow! ๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ˜บ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Not sure what I expected but this is just a collection of cat art, Cat memorabilia. There was a library of cat books but we were told not to touch the books. I just can't justify the $10 pet adult cost.

Awesome place!!!!! Such a great collection of anything cat. Definitely worth going to. You could spend hours looking at the various pictures, statues, etc. There is even a carousel inside!

We drove our skoolie, Ark.On.Wheels, to this museum and it did not disappoint! Excellent collection of cat art, collectibles, memorabilia, etc. I spent well over an hour browsing around, and taking photos of my favorite things. It was great I got to browse at my own pace, and the owner happened to be in that day and was available for tidbits of information, and to answer any questions I had. SO glad we stopped in, and the gift shop has plenty of cute cat things for decent prices so I was able to get a few gifts for my cat loving family. :)

Cool collection of cat memorabilia. The lady who was running it gave interesting demonstrations and cool facts. The only suggestion I have is that I would like more signage about some of the items (where they are from, their significance, etc.)

Pilgrimage to Cat meca. Small area but mighty exhibits. Owner curerator gave tour. Worth the stop for cat lovers. Came from north and drove through Smokey Mountain national park. Lots of things to see in Cherokee also. Wife Really loved the museum.waa

BE CAREFUL! The Google maps is wrong about the location. Look up the old school antique museum, and use that to get there. Another review mentions this as well. This place is open 10am-5pm, and I believe it's tuesday-saturday. All profits made here go to supporting the local no kill, no cage shelter! It was really great! Catman2 has a lot of really cool things and he's happy to talk about all of them. The museum itself is only two rooms, but there's so much to see! If you're into collecting figurines, check out the shelves right outside the door to the cat museum. Again, all profits go to shelter. There's some really interesting things! Once you're done with the cat museum, make sure to check out the antique shop. There's so much to look at, but it's all very well organized. Staff were friendly too!
