A small museum still bears a great collection of history known as Aarumuga Navalar lived place. Entry fee is totally free and no photography is allowed inside. Many people don't know about this place even Jaffna people also. An old library and a cultural hall are attached to this museum. A Must visit place to observe interesting unique artefacts collected around the region and some were donated by People. There is a skeleton of a whale, litter, stone ornaments, daily utensils, Dutch gravestones, a huge painting of Queen Victoria and ancient weapons..etc. Parking is available in front. Guidance is not maintained properly to engage the foreign tourists, if the archeological department makes amendments then this will be another great tourist attraction in Jaffna.

Quite a small place yet bears a great collection of history. A Must visit place in many people ignore or don't know about this place. We also went accidentally as we had time to waste and certainly it wasn't a disappointment. Entrance to this place is totally free. Parking for several vehicles is available at front. Guides at this place aren't that much fluent in English hence a certain crowd of foreigners may avoid this place. But if they can make ammendments to that point then this will be another great tourist attraction in jaffna.

Nice museum with great historical artefacts from the northern province. No entry fee but I would recommend a small donation when you visit to help with the maintenance and upkeep costs

An interesting place with some very unique artefacts from the region. Some found through excavation, some were donated heirlooms. Small but worth the visit. Entrance is free. No photography is allowed inside. There are stone ornaments, daily utensils, Dutch gravestones, a huge painting of Queen Victoria and a few others from China and the like

The place is not maintaining well. Looks like they don't care of the place. There are ancient things to watch but there are no much information about those, so it is difficult to get an idea about them. I recommend one time visit.

A museum with wide array of history from all around the Peninsula, which runs back centuries. Photography in the premises is prohibited and you should remove the foot wear to enter the premises. It will take roughly 45 minutes to cover the whole place.

This museum is so small that receives very little attention. The guard showed us around trying to explain in poor English what the objects were. It is worth going just to contribute to the culture of the city. With a little bit more if investment it could become bigger and tourists would come easily.

Compare to other museums in the country this is very less informative. Jaffna has a great history under the crown of Lanka and archaeologically it’s very important , but that information is not demonstrating here

Careful with the Donation: Make sure it drops inside the box. The Guys there have a trick. They grab it from your hand and drop it on the other side where you cannot see the cash drop in properly (and they take it back later). You drop the cash (where you can see) and then a coin afterwards to ensure it goes in properly.

So much history in one place, definitely a must visit in Jaffna. So many ancient artifacts and models for you to see. Unfortunately you can't take pictures inside but you definitely will be amazed at its contents.

A unique insight into life in Ceylon(emphasis on Northern Province) in the olden days. Old carvings and sculptures, antiques and collectibles are all stored on display. No fees required, you are able to donate to the Dept of Archaeology however. The setting is inside an olden style traditionally designed family home, which is nostalgic, but the ventilation is very low. Photography not allowed

Jaffna Archaeological Museum is located in Nallur, Jaffna, Sri Lanka. The land was given to museum by Arumuga Navalar Foundation, and front portion has Navalar Cultural Hall. The museum houses a rare collection of antiquities.

Must visit this museum when you visit Jaffna. You can find largest number of historical artifacts and models of different rare things used by local, dutch and british people in the colonial era. You can also find weapons, tools and coins used by those people. I was the only one in the museum when I visited it. More people must take interest and visit.

This place must be developed as a tourist attraction place. Not developed as other archeological museums in the other parts of the country. If the central government can not do it then the Jaffna MC must take the responsibility and develop the place. Can be converted as a money generation lication for the MC.

Need to develop as a tourist attraction place. Compared to other museums this is not upto standards. Less attractions given by the authorities.

Great place to visit and see the past of Jaffna. Really small place needs some funding to keep it going and to make sure the history is preserved. Location is also not that visible from the main road.

Really good museum with a lot of pieces from many historical excavations in near archeological sites and donations. Much bigger then expected by the size of the building. Every piece have a caption in three languages: Tamil, Sinhalese and English. When something is unclear they attach explanation and/or photos how something was used. Museum contains cravings, statues (mainly Hindu but Buddhist also), weapons, jewelry, agricultural tools and more. It's a must when you visit Jaffna. When we were visiting there were no tickets. Only unsolicited donation. But it's good to donate here because their dedication to preserve culture and history is admirable.

Can see a considerable number of artifacts from sl history especially regarding the northern sl history... does look like much from the outside but when you go inside it's a different story, especially to ppl who are interested in history

Jaffna Museum is not a very popular destination among travelers unlike some other attractions in Jaffna. However, there is a lot to learn from Jaffna Museum, specially on the history and culture, along with people's lifestyle. Need to improve the infrastructural facilities and exhibits need to be displayed in a better manner.

A must visit to observe many artifacts available within Jaffna as well as other parts of the country as well. Even though the museum seems to be confined to a very small space, once you set your feet in you will be walking around a lot as there are so many things to observe.

Difficult to find through Google, once you reached there you will be confused, asked from a local nearby they will show you the entrance route. However so many antiquities are available for display. Hindu, Buddhist, European antiquities are available and you can uplift your knowledge, Need more attention by the Government to preserve these antiquities
