i love how fancy and unique this place is, how attentive the staff service was, how clean and quiet their place is and the authenticity of their dishes ❤ simply one of best dine experience in Jakarta. my visit was on Nov 2018 and the best part : they served an oldies snack which is hard to find nowadays along with lemongrass tea and they gave us nice complimentary dessert. clearly they have standards and took things seriously even on free things. i ordered few menus, my fav was their ketoprak (MUST TRY) 👌 and you guys should try their different kind of rice as well. their sate lilit also nice. re-visit? its a must!

Authentic Indonesian dining experience in historical and culturally rich ornamented rooms! It was my second day back in Jakarta longing for a traditional Indonesian food and stumbled upon Lara Djonggrang in Menteng area and wasn’t disappointed. Historical ornaments, religious sculptures and dated remains filled every corner of the room as we were seated, making the dining experience as traditional as it can get; felt almost like we were dining in a historical museum. We had Nasi Gudeg Pesanggrahan (Rp. 98,000), Nasi Bakar Ayam Taliwang (Rp. 98,000), Rendang Padang (Rp. 118,000), Es Lemongrass Tea (Rp. 40,000). Nasi Gudeg was immensely delicious and was my personal favourite. The ingredients tasted fresh and the Indonesian spices felt very authentic. Nasi Bakar Ayam Taliwang was alright, taste-wise pretty decent but the ratio of rice to proteins were a bit off (not sure if that’s how it was meant to be served). Rendang Padang felt different —not the same coconut-curry rendang I was used to, not bad but kicked pretty strong in the earthy taste (perhaps star anise). A lovely dining experience. Would come back for their other food at a certain point!

Best service from the staff! I love their options of Indonesian food, some is rare to find in common local restaurant. Definetely their interior design is amazing. It's an antique Indonesia decor. Tableware and plating is preeeeety. Parking area is available for 8-9 cars, valet service is available too. They served wine, beer and liqueur in their bar. If you're vegetarian, you can try their Sate Tempeh (serve with authentic Kecap Manis), Sayur Genjer, Gado-Gado, and Tahu pong. Avg price is IDR 200-250k/person.

We ordered sate lilit, sate tempe, gado gado, shrimp ball, tahu isi, and fried gurameh. Food was delicious, ambience was good, out of all the menu we ordered, the gado gado is the best.

Eating at Lara Djonggrang gives you a different kind of dining experience , it’s almost magical when you get inside and see the interior design and decorations, and the staff service is excellent. We even get a tour around the restaurant for every room and we got explanations on each objects (which are collections of the owner) . The food tasted exceptional as well. It’s a wonderful experience and recommended

It's a fancy restaurant with Javanese Concept, lil bit 'dark' sense but it's classy and I like it. We ordered satay, ice, chicken, etc...etc... Cool icon of javanese around Gondangdia. The food was sooooo delicious, pricey but worth it! I'll go back here to have dinner again!

Impeccable dining experience at Lara Djonggrang. Everything was settled perfectly, from the service, the setting, the interior, the food taste & quality also the location. We were there for a corporate luncheon and turned out to be one of the best hosting we made on 2019. Recommended and very fast response if your made reservation through their contact center. A 5-star restaurant indeed!

Went again for the second time after years as I have been living abroad since only God knows when. Went with my partner which isn’t Indonesian and we both enjoyed every bit of it. I just love how different Lara Djonggrang is compared to other resto that pretty much just basic. We ordered the boat of Satay and recommended it as well as the grilled rice but maybe to added more meat inside will be much better. Soto Ta’ Kemplang (if am not mistaken) was our least favourite.

Thematic "peranakan" restaurant from the famous Tugu group. The place specialize in Indonesia dishes from across the nation. The food is okay in my opinion but not superb, however, the ambience of the place I really love it. They really brings out the traditional peranakan feeling through its interior design. It is really a good place to chill with your friend or when u want to impress your foreign friend. The price tag is quite high. A single person dish cost 80k before tax n service charge.

Jakarta's most atmospheric restaurant is a feast for the senses, the interior decoration is just stunning and worth the visit alone. Fortunately the food, which comprises dishes from all over the Indonesian archipelago, does not disappoint either. While not quite as exceptional as the ambiance, its generally of very good quality. Don't miss out on the ikan pepes and some durian ice cream for dessert. Prices are high, but not exorbitantly so for such an amazing experience

My wife and I had an early weekday dinner. Beautiful decor, and a fish pond gives it a lovely atmosphere. Name written out on a leaf. Service was prompt, warm and attentive (without being overbearing)!. We ordered the fish sate. This was incredibly tasty with rich seasoning. I wish we had ordered more! My wife ate their Taliwang dish and I had a Betutu. Beautifully presented. Washed down with a hot, spicy ginger drink.

A local staple with true indonesian dishes from the various islands. The building and interior however feel dillapitated while it tries to be fine dining plastic wrapped cutlery, dusty interiors don't make if feel like such. The food itself was good, nothing eye popping, just good food.

Flavorful Indonesian cuisine experience. Authentic taste, fresh ingredients, well-cooked, well-served. Unique ambience. This is not my first time here yet I've never had a so-so experience, always satisfying. Too bad because of pandemic the menu options are fewer than before, but still plenty good options to choose from. I would suggest adding more cold and light drink options, since not all the time after having a wholesome food people want to go for wedang or "heavy drinks" such as cincau and es campur.

It has been described as "The Art, Soul And Romance Of Indonesia" .. it is definitely a romance of the palette .. We took up their recommendation for beef rendang, deliciously cooked in a variety of spices .. sayur gender, a "wild veg", simmered in coconut milk & a tad spicy .. enjoyed both dish ...the steam yellow fish in banana leaf & otak otak (mackerel) was only average .. we finished off w a delectable dessert, pisang ramee, so good so delicious .. It is a good rsstaurant to go to for some authentic indonesian cuisine ..

The ornament and atmosphere of this resto are one of a kind. You can feel the Indonesian traditional atmosphere here with many ornaments from kampung. When we enter, we can already smell the lemongrass scent. The parking lot is very limited. The food is quite ok. I don't too fond with gurame goreng though. They should just fried it and no need to use flour on it. The way they serve nasi bakar and satay lilit quite unique. The jamu is super duper sweet for me.

One of my favourite places for trying out Indonesian cuisine - and I guess it's because it might not be as authentic but is certainly something an international audience would appreciate. Love the fact that there is so much for vegetarians, again something you'll not find anywhere in Indonesia. Great setting and surely coming back here for more.

The first thing I have to say about this place is "special". I have gone to this place for special gatherings with friends and families at least 3 times and each occasion felt really well spent. The food was good and very nicely presented. The staffs were very knowledgeable and friendly. I'd say this place is ideal for throwing a celebration. If you're on a budget, you'd find that Lara Djonggrang has great offers, including the free-flow drink options.

The food was good but the portions are very small. So if you a very hungry you might spend more money. The Service was ok but very very slow. We have waited around 25 minutes for our dessert. The worst thing and Iam not the first person here who comments on that, was the tablecloth, which was dirty. If you try to be highstandard, this is a no go!! So overall a good place but could be improved as pricing is high.

Artistic and unique interior design. From outside it’s just like a common restaurant but inside will be different ambience. About the taste was not too special but you can have it while enjoying the situation. Too pity we can’t find praying room at this restaurant so for you who want to do then you will need to do in small place near the warehouse for the beverages/wines ( sounds not really intended for a praying room). In overall, while enjoying the lunch or dinner, you also can listen to the Javanese music (gamelan) which can make a difference feeling- peaceful and relax. It’s quite nice.

‘It was a mini museum we have just visited’ - this was how we felt after the authentic Indonesian lunch at the Tugu Lara Djonggrang. This place is decorated and furnished with antique pieces. There’s an magnificent ancient tree that has many roots enveloping it’s main trunk, welcoming you at the entrance of the restaurant compound. I really hope this tree can live there as long as it can. The food was fairly alright. The spicy tuna fish was tasty. Papaya leaves with petai (bitter beans) was good, the only qualms is that petai was just a few pieces. Our food order was a appetiser, two type of stir fried vegetables, a tuna dish, two steam rice, a portion of local cracker, and es campur (shaved ice fruits cocktail) for dessert. Plus 2 bottled sparkling water. Total bill was IDR583,275 which was fairly alright. There’s also a cosy bar like place connected at the back of the restaurant. Service was rather slow, just one person was seen taking orders and serving all of the customers.

Food is pretty good, but the price is definitely on the higher side in Indonesia. We (3 adult males) ate close to 900k Rupiah. I'd say that this is a good place to try a bunch of different kinds of food. Individually, I had better versions of dishes elsewhere, but as a whole package goes, it's good.

Part museum, part architectural history, part bar, part restaurant, and named after a famous and beautiful mythological princess, Lara Djonggrang, this is a full Indonesian cultural experience. I had low expectations for the food, especially since I'd been to a sister restaurant, Shanghai Blue, and been very impressed by the decor and distinctly underwhelmed by the food. However, Lara Djonggrang is the full package. The menu is thoughtful, showcasing unusual dishes from different regions of Indonesia. The "satay boat" is a bit of a gimmick, except that the satay atop it is some of the best I've ever had. Unusual ingredients abound, there are new dishes, showing innovation is alive and well among the chefs, and most dishes are really excellent. Portion sizes are a little confusing; a rice dish had a laughably small cone of rice, while shaved ice desserts were so big they could have been shared by easily by four people. Service is very gracious, but a little slow. A really nice experience overall.

One of my favourite restaurants in Jakarta, serving fantastic food with reasonable price. The food was exquisite and the service was good, it's really nice restaurant to have a lunch with family or friends.
